He is such a cold, cruel (and I don’t care if it’s unintentional) and unfulfilling significant other to the point his own mother preferred one of the rivals to her own son (nurse dude was the ONE, man. The ONE). Kotoko can be annoying, but at least she’s nice and does not deserve a partner who only gives her SCRAPS of attention and love 5% of the time. It’s just a constant cycle of neglect, insecurity and then a smidge of acknowledgment to keep her trailing and I hated it.

The husband is often cold toward her, but when times get rough he is there for her. He’s pretty unbearable at first but as the series progresses he becomes more likable. It’s also enjoyable to see the usually sweet Kotoko get fiery and put him in his place.
the reason Naoki (the husband) was so cold to everyone is because his mother always wanted a girl so much, she dressed him like a girl, and took pictures of him in dresses! what made things worse is that she was the dumbest, and he is the smartest in all of japan.

This story is legit the only shoujo anime that my father loves. And I mean LOVES. His phone ringtone is the shows OST and he has seen the anime, live action, Chinese, Thailand and Korean adaptations. He loves it so much that he keeps rewatching it all the time. He keeps telling me that this relationship only worked because it was specifically for the 2 of them and not anybody else.
Why are y'all being so mean ? Let people enjoy what they like ! I see a lot of people calling out this shoujo and I understand where they're coming from. Yet the people who says shit about this anime/shoujo or who are glad people are calling it out are just missing all the point of the manga/anime/shoujo. It is understandable if you disagree with the way the mangaka sees what love is all about or that you simply don't like this shoujo for whatever good reason you have. However imposing the vision of your "true love" to other people and judging people from your own point of view is very narrow minded of you. Also I think it's mean to make someone feels bad about what they like without even trying to understand the other just because you don't think the same. The mangaka wanted to say that love takes a lot of time. We all have flaws. These two are two opposites. They both needed each other to grow and be a better person. They needed each other because together they could be a better version of themselves. Love can be exhausting... It's not all rainbows and sunshines. We can argue, makes bad decisions but in the end what's important is the relation between those two people. The OP's Dad isn't totally wrong either when he said that. The relationship between the two protagonists worked because it was Kotoko and Irie. That's what makes this shoujo great. This shoujo has their good and bad sides yet overall it's pretty decent. It may not be for everyone but that's totally normal because we are all different.

watched all the adaptations of this story. loved the original manga the best because it really shows how much they love each other and have grown. it's quite cliche but in the manga you can really tell they make each other a better person and they complete each other. both of them have flaws, Kotoko is kind, cute and very affectionate but then she is not rational (and not that bright lol)... Irie has it all, rich, smart and handsome but because of all of that he is a very difficult person, he is too rational and he doesn't even know how to show his emotions or even deal with his emotions most of the time... tbh, he is like a machine learning how to love and be loved... where Kotoko is just... quite naive, she can't do and know much things but she knows how to love with all her heart. one of my favourite chapters in the manga is Kotoko just couldn't take it anymore, she argued with Irie and ran away from home. she wanted him to be more expressive and less rational(don't particularly remember what they were discussing but she thought he didn't care about her...) .. That was the biggest fight they had after getting married, and Irie just kept reflecting on himself and tried to think from Kotoko's point of view... he eventually brought her home and apologised for being not expressive enough, Kotoko also understood that was just part of his personality and she did feel loved and protected... towards the end of this manga, Irie has been softened a lot and Kotoko has matured a lot as well, unfortunately, the author of the story died from cancer, the story ends at Irie asking if she is pregnant.... (this time for real lol) ps. a little fun fact about the author of the story, she wrote the story from her point of view and she saw herself a lot from Kotoko, she thought she was not that bright who was in love with the best guy on earth(her husband) and sometimes she just didn't think she deserved him... after her death, the story has been made into different versions, and one of the producers or consultants of the Japanese version (MK2) was her real-life husband. he still missed the author a lot and he kinda helped the scriptwriter to write the story, to make Irie in the show more flawed and weak, and he also helped write Kotoko's character to be cuter and smarter and even kinder. because he said he was never this perfect guy his wife thought he was, he was just a normal person. but then when he was asked why was he making Kotoko's character better, he said she was the best in his eyes T_T
In the anime the same actually happens. They got into a fight in episode 19 and she ran away from home. What I like about the anime is that they actually point out both or kotoko and irie 's behaviours and actions. I find many people say kotoko has no dignity and that's not true because there are many times she points out irie 's behaviour.
@@rawdasalmataman7908 i found the manga on several manga sites, read it, and it continued to chapter 77. she did become an alcoholic.. i won't give any more spoilers...it is a good story..
Wow. I didn't know the Korean adaptation of this manga/anime was fairly accurate to the original. The Korean drama version also had a special episode where the girl thought she was pregnant, and the guy's mom started a whole fuss about it. She was also trying to get into nursing school, since the guy became a doctor.
they portrayed Naoki so differently in the anime, Naoki from the manga, with the OG plot showed how Naoki really treats Kotoko, it's like Zhi Shu from they kiss Again (Taiwanese version of itakiss) they also had cut many scenes from the manga that could've made the anime a lot better. Naoki is actually is a tease, naughty, jealous and also over protective of Kotoko who likes to push her instead of pamper her with sweet nothings. He know that even tho she got that power of hardworking with hard will, she's still dependent on him, so he wants her to be able to stand on her own. He also only listens to her when she says something, he either does it or consider it. Also, I really hate how they didn't add the bathhouse scene from the manga, he's a big tease there. (If you want to read the manga, you can find it in mangafire, it's completed and all translated there) Also, i understand how this show is not for Many, many thinks Naoki is a big red flag and Kotoko is too much of an airhead (well, she is 😅) But what i love about Naoki is that, he is loyal and faithful to her, he's an introvert so he doesn't express himself well like kotoko who is an extrovert, if kotoko publicly shows that she loves him, He on the other hand shows it on private or by actions. He cares about kotoko greatly, if you think he doesn't notice anything about her, wel no, he notices even slightly change about her, he doesn't pamper her or spoils her with those kind of cheeky flowers or chocolate but he pushes her instead to do better, even if it means to shout at her (honestly, she really do needs those shouting), whe he left for Kobe, don't tell me Kotoko needs to be olwith him Kobe, no kotoko wouldn't survive in Kobe at all, even with her personality, no one will get along with her, Naoki initially thought of her well being before thinking of himself, the change of environment will greatly affect her. also, the capping ceremony, he was on a conference but rushed back once it was over just to be able to go to her capping ceremony. There's many more i could list here, but I'dnlet you read the manga and comprehend the real plot of the story, (you need to delve in deeper to understand their relationship honestly, took me a few months to figure out how their relationship works at the very beginning) What i hate about him is he doesn't express himself well, when he's jealous, he'll proceed on hurting her, like how he thought Sudo and Her were getting along really well, he was so pissed that he taunted her and provoked her right the door of the shower when she was looking for the underwear that she dropped, and he proceeded on going on that date flwirh Matsumoto that he initially refused to. His jealousy over keita too, 🤦♂️ he's actually possessive over kotoko, he just don't know how to express it that's why he proceed with his cold blooded attitude
I used to hate him when I was younger but the older I get, the more I realize he is a green flag. When you compare the character Hachi from the anime Nana(who has a similar personality as Kotoko), Hachi was cheated on by the guy we thought was a green flag. I've come to realize how lucky Kotoko. Naoki loves to tease Kotoko, he is what you call a tsundere. He is just too shy to express his feelings 😊
I don't see where he didn't react well. Looked more like he knew how his family is and went to check it asap before a bigger fuss was done about it. He never said or showed he wouldn't like to have a baby, he was just cautious abd protective to his gf. He is a very supportive bf IMO.
The fact that anyone could see this scene and think he treating her like shit is baffling to me 😂 The guy went home early cuz he promised her a date as motivation if she studies hard and passes the exam after failing multiple times and he remembers that promise even tho she forgot about it He comes home early specifically for this, to take her out on her exam result day and then gets surprised when she tells him she might be pregnant So he insists she gets checked out immediately (since when was a husband concerned for his wife's and possible kid's health a bad thing lol 😂) Then they find out she's not actually pregnant and her reaction is soo funny 😂 and he doesn't say anything mean Then they went to see her results and she passed and then he remined her of the date while being shy it was so cute How did he mistreat her in all this ? People are so paranoid i swear 😂
Yes. His reaction to this is how a normal guy reacts. They aren't jumping to the sky lol 😂 And from what I watched, he is a flegmatic guy, so he made everything possible to check is it wrong or not
I haven't watched the anime but I did watch all the live action versions of this ( I think). I watched the CN or Taiwanese version of this, the KR version and the Japanese version. For me, the TW or CN version is my favourite among those because I think it was the very sweetest one. The male lead literally changed his personality towards her as the time goes by. I grew to love the man and the actor himself. I believe it was also the original version among all of these
I don't why this anime or the dramas based on it are so popular. They take the term toxic relationship to a whole new level but propogate it as romance. It's sickening.
He's her husband at this point and they were so not ready to have a kid. Thank goodness she wasn't pregnant. He gets better because he was honestly genuinely confused with how he was treating her and just emotions because he never really felt emotions before that point? By the end of the series he treats her better and actually started to be a husband, but their relationship was extremely rushed 😅🤚 (By the mother-in-law especially!) And it took learning time and her snapping at him to get himself in shape or starting to get better. It probably would've worked way better if they would've been able to go by the original plan they had, so they could've atleast worked and learned how to have a relationship before they married. (They were originally planning to get married after graduation)
Watched this show and watched multiple live versions (the J-drama is my favorite, but the Thai drama Kotoko is my favorite). I feel indifferent because while he doesn't show emotions, he does somewhat care about her....though he does treat her terribly.

@@strawberryherpes528He’s not though? Irie’s personality is just like that, but he grows to show his soft side. Just because they’re married doesn’t mean anything in the anime. His mom rushed the marriage for them both.
This incident is actually why Irie later impregnated her for real. He liked the idea of having a child so the next time she actually got pregnant he noticed right away and was looking forward to it. I rewatched this show many times and came to realize that we easily forget that Irie is a teenager too and he was still on his rebelling phase and he wanted to punish his mother for "traumatising him" (she made him believe he was a girl lol) hence it taking him too long to be nice to Kotoko since he felt like his mother was pushing her onto him. In the manga he is more protective towards her.

This anime has Live action. Its called itazura na kiss, its actually good. Naoki just doesn't know how to react about her pregnancy (iirc they haven't done anything on their honeymoon.) And the guy is actually a doctor so.. he wanted assurance. The pregnancy was actually a phantom pregnancy. because of her mother-in-law she actually thought that shes pregnant. In the end of the series, she will be ACTUALLY pregnant and i think its a girl. if you wanna watch it I suggest that you guys should first watch on how they met.
People be saying this is abusive and in real life they give their hearts to a jerk who is LITERALLY Abusive to them 😂 Trust me Irie is not abusive. I think He is a realistic portrayal of a clossed off person. Stoic.
I watched this whole anime so much emotions mostly anger pain sadness because how he treated her and if he cares he would always treat her well all the time not choose special moments to be nice to her, he is toxic a jerk stone face. Stop with the always defending the guy over the girl be realistic open your mind use your eyes and brain. Every time when guy is horrible to girl people find ways to defend the guy but when once In a while the girl makes a mistake straight away all are attacking blaming the girl and feeling bad for the guy like seriously read the room ,watch the whole anime before just watch a clip and judging like you know everything and understand from their sides of the story their situation before commencing judging .
The most annoying is the fl characters I mean if he treats you like shit why waste time with him she so pathetic to me I only watch it for the comedic effects
Playful kiss was another country's adaptation of the first live adaptation of the manga of this anime which was I think way back 1996 ✨It's kind of confusing, but basically the 1996 one from Japan is the original as far as I know 😁
Hey guys the actual reason is that she was not pregnant at that time because iri knows they didn't go far apart kissing and it was only his mother being overexited and assuming thing when she was sick and tired

Please Miss you will fail nursing 😭 This is so insulting to me. How in the world did you pass nursing school that easily with that level of knowledge. No offense, but she's married. You guys understand absolutely nothing of this anime. You are so full of your american feminazism that you can't stop one second and think. This is kotoko story about how she never gave up on her love and how she eventually wins the man of her dreams heart. He is cold like that because he is a genius. He even admits it at one point, life has no meaning to him because of his high intelligence. Remember Sheldon from Big bang theory? Same thing. He starts loving Kotoko mannerisms and chaotic nature because this is what actually starts bring some color in his life. And yes this takes TIME he doesn't love her from the start, he tries to push her way because that's what he always does with people, which is a very common trait of high intelligent people. But when he realizes that he does infact love her he does it with all his heart.
I super love the story of Itazura, but not the anime version. Because Irie-kun was so stoic and didn't know how to be gentle and kind towards his wife. I prefer and love the most the Taiwanese version because Zhi Shu was way gentler and kind towards his wife. Not to mention, they have more sweet scenes.
Saw this first when i was young. I liked it cause of the tsundere male lead and relatable FL. But ive rewatched it again now that im an adult and i was hoping the ML will show more affection for the FL 😅 (though it improved when she got pregnant). The story is awesome though and i understand why it is still famous till now 🥰🥰🥰
Haha! I forgot about this. The fact that her mother made her think she is pregnant lol! Yeah, this series was cute, but also sad at points. Towards the end they drifted apart. Sad. I think it had more to do with the fact that she felt insecure and had to be what she thought he wanted her to be. Her outfits, hair and everything changed towards the end. In a way, I can see how a woman's insecurities can break a relationship.

It’s just a constant cycle of neglect, insecurity and then a smidge of acknowledgment to keep her trailing and I hated it.
Good thing I doged that bullet. I'm not gonna watch someone who treat others a crap.
@@marlepeace9844 very well said, this one of my childhood anime( also watch the jdrama) and when i matured and rewatch this I realize how sucks the male lead. agree!! he was the worst, even in the end he still was a bitch to her most of the time =_=
The husband is often cold toward her, but when times get rough he is there for her. He’s pretty unbearable at first but as the series progresses he becomes more likable. It’s also enjoyable to see the usually sweet Kotoko get fiery and put him in his place.
Sauce?
Itazura na kiss
the reason Naoki (the husband) was so cold to everyone is because his mother always wanted a girl so much, she dressed him like a girl, and took pictures of him in dresses! what made things worse is that she was the dumbest, and he is the smartest in all of japan.
Agreed I’m glad more people can see that he definitely has flaws but improves them

That really doesn't say good things about him, I'm so so sorry to say. Would he love it as much if the roles were reversed?
@@LethalRain9 "specifically for the 2 of them and not anybody else."
If you include personality exhange, then probably yes.
Im sorry but this is the most abusive relationship ever like this is not something to like
Why are y'all being so mean ?
@@nanao7412 no relationship should be abusive.

Just a clickbait chilll
Wow what a blast from the past. I was obsessed back in the day ngl. Her persistence and perseverance towards him was almost aspirational
watched all the adaptations of this story. loved the original manga the best because it really shows how much they love each other and have grown. it's quite cliche but in the manga you can really tell they make each other a better person and they complete each other. both of them have flaws, Kotoko is kind, cute and very affectionate but then she is not rational (and not that bright lol)...
(this time for real lol)
ps. a little fun fact about the author of the story, she wrote the story from her point of view and she saw herself a lot from Kotoko, she thought she was not that bright who was in love with the best guy on earth(her husband) and sometimes she just didn't think she deserved him... after her death, the story has been made into different versions, and one of the producers or consultants of the Japanese version (MK2) was her real-life husband. he still missed the author a lot and he kinda helped the scriptwriter to write the story, to make Irie in the show more flawed and weak, and he also helped write Kotoko's character to be cuter and smarter and even kinder. because he said he was never this perfect guy his wife thought he was, he was just a normal person. but then when he was asked why was he making Kotoko's character better, he said she was the best in his eyes T_T

Wow. I didn't know the Korean adaptation of this manga/anime was fairly accurate to the original. The Korean drama version also had a special episode where the girl thought she was pregnant, and the guy's mom started a whole fuss about it. She was also trying to get into nursing school, since the guy became a doctor.

@@michimachi5343 thank uu
right? I actuallg think thats one of the few kdramas tht adapted the original story so accurately
That's shows you're an Otaku not a Weebo Yet.
they portrayed Naoki so differently in the anime, Naoki from the manga, with the OG plot showed how Naoki really treats Kotoko, it's like Zhi Shu from they kiss Again (Taiwanese version of itakiss) they also had cut many scenes from the manga that could've made the anime a lot better. (If you want to read the manga, you can find it in mangafire, it's completed and all translated there)
Also, i understand how this show is not for Many, many thinks Naoki is a big red flag and Kotoko is too much of an airhead (well, she is 😅)
But what i love about Naoki is that, he is loyal and faithful to her, he's an introvert so he doesn't express himself well like kotoko who is an extrovert, if kotoko publicly shows that she loves him, He on the other hand shows it on private or by actions. There's many more i could list here, but I'dnlet you read the manga and comprehend the real plot of the story, (you need to delve in deeper to understand their relationship honestly, took me a few months to figure out how their relationship works at the very beginning)
What i hate about him is he doesn't express himself well, when he's jealous, he'll proceed on hurting her, like how he thought Sudo and Her were getting along really well, he was so pissed that he taunted her and provoked her right the door of the shower when she was looking for the underwear that she dropped, and he proceeded on going on that date flwirh Matsumoto that he initially refused to. His jealousy over keita too, 🤦♂️ he's actually possessive over kotoko, he just don't know how to express it that's why he proceed with his cold blooded attitude
THANK YOU FOR TELLING THIS! I hate the fact that Naoki was bad portrayed in the anime
Title corrections "Her husband doesn't react well to her pregnancy" and it's not that he did react well. He's just a level headed person
I don't see where he didn't react well. Looked more like he knew how his family is and went to check it asap before a bigger fuss was done about it. He never said or showed he wouldn't like to have a baby, he was just cautious abd protective to his gf. He is a very supportive bf IMO.
This anime is so popular to the point that it has so many live version on every part of the world 😂 try searching it hahaha
The fact that anyone could see this scene and think he treating her like shit is baffling to me 😂
The guy went home early cuz he promised her a date as motivation if she studies hard and passes the exam after failing multiple times and he remembers that promise even tho she forgot about it
He comes home early specifically for this, to take her out on her exam result day and then gets surprised when she tells him she might be pregnant
So he insists she gets checked out immediately (since when was a husband concerned for his wife's and possible kid's health a bad thing lol 😂)
Then they find out she's not actually pregnant and her reaction is soo funny 😂 and he doesn't say anything mean
Then they went to see her results and she passed and then he remined her of the date while being shy it was so cute
How did he mistreat her in all this ?
People are so paranoid i swear 😂
Yes. His reaction to this is how a normal guy reacts. They aren't jumping to the sky lol 😂 And from what I watched, he is a flegmatic guy, so he made everything possible to check is it wrong or not
My teenage years. I remember those times I get so frustrated about this show but I'm glad I finished and watched the whole episode.
I could not stop laughing after she came out of the door
I haven't watched the anime but I did watch all the live action versions of this ( I think). I watched the CN or Taiwanese version of this, the KR version and the Japanese version. For me, the TW or CN version is my favourite among those because I think it was the very sweetest one. The male lead literally changed his personality towards her as the time goes by. I grew to love the man and the actor himself. I believe it was also the original version among all of these
Is this the anime version for Mischievous Kiss the kdrama??
@@ayame585 nope. There's none. This is the only anime for it , for all versions hehe.
That title is awful he loves her so much
Watched this show and watched multiple live versions (the J-drama is my favorite, but the Thai drama Kotoko is my favorite). I feel indifferent because while he doesn't show emotions, he does somewhat care about her....though he does treat her terribly.

Vaya a comer ... Si no sabes querer y poner igual esfuerzo en la relación no mereces estar en una

I was waiting too long for this episode 😭
This incident is actually why Irie later impregnated her for real. He liked the idea of having a child so the next time she actually got pregnant he noticed right away and was looking forward to it. I rewatched this show many times and came to realize that we easily forget that Irie is a teenager too and he was still on his rebelling phase and he wanted to punish his mother for "traumatising him" (she made him believe he was a girl lol) hence it taking him too long to be nice to Kotoko since he felt like his mother was pushing her onto him. In the manga he is more protective towards her.
Classic Kotoko, someone else has to tell her she's pregnant....

This anime has Live action. Its called itazura na kiss, its actually good. Naoki just doesn't know how to react about her pregnancy (iirc they haven't done anything on their honeymoon.) You guys understand absolutely nothing of this anime.
