I love Kotoko so much, she may not be smart, but still you can't help but fall for her heart and root for her love despite the toxicity of their relationship
And maybe the reason why this love story never dies is because it's real. It's based on the author's real love story. His wife is the author who passed away. The least thing the husband can do is to give a happy ending on this story which they never got in real life.
They may not have the ending they've wanted but they are happy they chose to be with each other until her last breath.🤍
Where did u get the info of this being based on the authors life? Says on Wikipedia that she sadly passed away and that her husband continues the Manga.

I sometimes think like these kind of love is not for me! I have been single for 23 years and have never felt such things! Now i wonder if i will ever be able to get such a pure love. You mean the manga writer? I read somewhere that she based the manga on her and her husband's story. And she did passed away in 1999..
Yeah, the manga writer was writing about her and her husband, she died before she could finish the manga. However her husband helped with the Japanese version, especially season 2, so people could see how much Kotoko meant to him. [Her love wasn't one sided, but he needed her, that's why you have scenes like his confession in the cafeteria in season 2]
