Denzel Curry, JID, Vince Staples, Black Thought, Pusha T, Nas, JPEGMAFIA, Westside Gunn, Freddie Gibbs, Joey Bada$$, Little Simz, All better hip hop artists than J Cole. He’s fine, but he’s not special amongst his peers other than his ability to convince people he’s special, and a lot of his older projects are filled with corny bars and weird whiny little fake deep songs. I’m not a hater, I like some J Cole projects but anyone who treats J Cole like hes special is the exact type of person to think Drake ever belonged in a ‘big 3’ - IE it’s all a numbers game to you
Like here’s the thing, did I like the off season? Do I like some tracks off 2014 and FYEO? Yes! Absolutely, dude can rap! But he’s just not on that level yet to put together anything as good as Sometimes I Might Be Introvert, 1999, The Forever Story, Acid Rap, Scaring the Hoes, Big Fish Theory, Melt my Eyez See Your Future
I think the biggest thing I grew out of being a big J. Cole fan since a kid was how relatively shallow the music is. The lyrics, songwriting, best selection is sometimes great and also often underwhelming. Nothing terrible about any of that but it keeps him several tiers below the absolute GOATs.
Imo vince washes. I think j cole is a solid rapper but nothing more, nothing less. I think vinces discography is better, and i think vinces perspective and artistry is more interesting than coles. Cole personally just necee really impressed me outside of his guest verses
i like vince from what ive heard alot, but really? I think J. Cole "ducking" the beef really made people forget that j cole is an arguable top 3 rapper in the world (also saying that vince staples has a better discography is wild)
I'll say this - J. Cole is somehow one of the most overrated / overhated rappers ever, and Vince Staples is pretty criminally underrated. I personally give it to Vince but the debate is closer than ppl try to make it seem. Thx for the comment! 🖤

So no, he’s also not touching a To Pimp a Butterfly

@@xteihn i mean, I’ll wear those shoes
I’ve never liked J Cole but the disrespect he gets lately is kinda weird.

he deserves a lil disrespect

Yeah I mostly agree! Vince's lyrics and songwriting are subtle and underrated - and he always adds a unique personal touch to things too.
@@bligatory I agree, said it better than I coulda

Vince absolutely has a better discography.
i think vince has a better discography but cole would win in a battlerap
He just isn’t though. He never has been. He never will unless he blows everyone’s minds with the next project. That was all hype. It was all bullshit.
There are just so many better rappers, better artists, Denzel, JID, Vince Staples, Black Thought, Pusha T, Nas (his new albums are great)
