- Welcome to part 2 where we do the final assembly, on the LP (Gibson Les Paul) Style guitar kit wiring and add some finishing touches to the guitar build. Thanks to thefretwire.com for sending the guitar kit out for the build.
I fully recommend building a guitar from a kit as it gives you the skills needed to mod and customise your guitar in the future and gives you a good idea of how the guitar works.

Man what a great build. Might as well mention, how much I appreciate your heart you pour in your videos. One of the few genuine feeling youtubers ...You and Steve both rock!! Thank you for being YOU!!
Thanks Robert! Truly appreciate your kind words, stay well my friend
thank you sir for this awesome videos(part 1 & 2)...informative💖
No problem Joel! Thanks for the comment
Kudos DP. What an achievement. Well beyond me. Great video. I think you should build an amp next........🙂👍
Thanks Simeon! Ooooh an amp! Now you’ve got me thinking! 👍
DP. Another warm and genuine video. You have a lovely manner. Like the white contrasts on this build. Guitar sounds very bright for a HB equipped guitar. Well done.
Thanks Chip, very much appreciate the comment as always, it may be the epiphone pickups, cheers!
Hi Derek, watched Part 1 & 2 end to end and quite frankly, it was inspirational. I have carried out quite a few mods, repairs and set up's to guitars but never gone the 'whole hog' before in terms of assembling a kit, I retire on the 30th Nov and with Xmas coming I can see a Tele kit arriving for a new year build!.
Cheers, Derek and thanks for the motivation.
Thanks Gareth, i really appreciate your kind words as always, i'd say go for it, it's a fun thing to do and you learn a lot in the process, we worth doing and happy retirement to you my friend!
Actually sounds like a nice crisp LP !! What a great job man!!! Especially considering your first build. Wow!! I need one of these. Heheheh
I was pleased with it, it’s really the first LP guitar I’ve really had time to play as well, I wonder how it compares? Cheers :)
With a 12" radius, you can even play a little slide (especially in D tuning, sounds awesome)
Great job! My wife got me this exact kit for Christmas. I'm looking at doing a very gentle sunburst..almost just a dark vignette around the edge to show off the spalted Maple. Doing lots of research on finish ideas but really dig the look of yours. I'm investigating how to get a really high gloss finish over top when I'm done, hopefully I can pull it off. Bravo on your build!
Nice one man! you'll enjoy the build, it's a lot of fun, your choices sound great! and thanks for the comment
wow dude, AMAZING WORK, very cute guitar in the end, i will buy some of that kits to take a look what happen, COOL PROYECT, MAN, congrats 😉😃
Thanks! Appreciate the comment and feedback
Wow, Derek, that was a very clean, meticulous build. Love the white motif, really sets off the top grain and the contrast with the sides. LOL, I see where I made my wiring mistake when I attempted to switch in the Seymour Duncans. Oh well, guitar techs have to make a living too. The decal is amazing. Maybe a vid on how you accomplished that. I wonder what you are planning to top this! Cheers!
Cheers Brad! and the pickups are superb! i realised the mistake when it sounded very strange lol, the decal vid is a good idea too, i have some plans for the future so ill have to see what happens, cheers!
First of all I really enjoyed this build, I might do one of these next year sometime; currently in the middle of two builds, waiting for parts.
A little advice, put a rag under your switch when you solder; solder sometimes spits a little, and you don't want to ruin your finish. I found out the hard way.
Ah good tip for all there! Thanks for the comment and feedback, cheers!
Your channel came into my feed . Looks cool, you did a great job. But please use something protective when soldering on the body. You might regret it one day lol. Subscribed.
Thanks man!! yes you're right i've done two builds on the channel now and i must use something when soldering lol, good tip! cheers
great video!
Thanks very much!
Maaaan! That guitar screams "play some Kiss riffs", it´s great, I love the look you gave it, that white in the plastics just makes the guitar pop-out, you have a nice taste brother, I hope you enjoy that beauty a lot, cheers my man
Thanks man!! appreciate that! i havent seen one like it so i was really pleased with the way it turned out! cheers my friend
@@DerekPaulGuitar yeah, actually that isn´t a common combination of colors, but it matched perfectly, have a nice time and cheers my man
@@TheKevinalejandroesp thanks man! I was hoping it was going to work 👍
Awesome!
Thanks man!!
Not sure if you did or not, but all the shielding tape should be connected to ground for the best effect.
I did indeed! Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment
Ah wow, that's a beauty bro!
You'll have to make one for me as well ;)
Haha get your order in! Cheers man!
Satisfying
Thanks man!
I really enjoy these videos your making can you do a tele ot strat next please
Tele done 👍 well... a Thinline tele anyway, cheers and thanks for the kind words
@@DerekPaulGuitar maybe you can make an amp of your own as a next video
@@Agentorange-kj4ze I was thinking about doing that, good idea! Cheers
да ты просто гений. датчики которые и так в металле, за экранировал, а длинющие провода к переключателю нет
Do you have any recommendations to get that nice glossy finish like the store bought electrics
If I were to do it I’d spray it, et it dry and wet sand it with a high grit paper then repeat a few times till you were happy, it’s quite a process though, cheers
When you did the decal did you cut the sheet to fit over the whole head stock or just cut the name out?
Just cut the name out, to get it to blend perfectly i put a layer of spray sealant on the headstock first, wiated for it to dry then applied the decal the then spray sealant over the top of that, it worked really well, cheers
Turned out great! See, I'm opposite, the soldering would be the part I like best as I've been doing it forever :D Seeing as we probably have at least another year of the rona crap, I'm gonna commit to building a kit come spring time.
Cheers Rich, oh that would be fantastic! and of course you'll send pics? 👍
@@DerekPaulGuitar I'll post them to Insta for sure!
@@nixternal Nice man!!
Great job my friend. Are you an Aussie? I ask because I have an Aussie girl friend with your accent. lol. I learned quite a bit here man so thanks. I am following you .
Thanks man!! I’m a Brit, living in the USA, thanks for the follow and kind words!
@@DerekPaulGuitar Yeah, the 2 accents sound so much alike. I love her accent and she taught me a lot of Aussie lingo. She used to put me on her speaker phone for her mother to hear me talk as she laughed. I am in Tennessee so I have that southern drawl ...lol
I failed to mention that you make the work look so easy. You must have been "at it" for quite a while! Great job once again. Cheers.
@@garydantzler1 I have a friend in Oz so I know what you mean, my wife is American so all her friends like hearing my accent lol
@@garydantzler1 thank you!! Honestly it was only my second build! I just took my time :)
Was the neck the one that came with it or did you order a different neck? Thanks!
Hi Frank, the neck was the one that came with it, cheers!
Looks like The Fret Wire is no longer in business 😒
It does, such a shame!
