Thanks to everyone who voted for the Lollars, they are exceptional pickups! What did you think of them?

That old Squire is going: If this was to be my fate, I should have been made in Mexico. LOL. What a great project and even better result. Beautiful ‘stratty’ sound and that’s coming from a Tele guy. You have proven that those budget guitars are really just a base for a great affordable instrument. Cheers!

I have a Japanese Strat I found at a pawn shop. Put in Curtis Novak 59 spec pups and a bone nut. Love it!

Hi Derek, the project is looking and sounding really good. Although I've never fitted a set of Lollar's I've played guitars with them and I've never heard a bad word said about them and I'm so glad you went for Kluson style tuners, they just look 'right'. The only thing I may have done differently (and this is being picky), is to fit a white-black-white scratch plate.
I did a similar project with a USA Peavey Predator I bought for £40 in bit's and all that was worth keeping was the body and neck. I fitted slotted Kluson style tuners and a new trem with a big block from Wilkinson, alnico premium pickups from GFS and it really does sound the part. It's a cream body with maple neck so I fitted a black scratchplate, trem cover and neck plate and it really looks the part. I got a very decent USA spec'd guitar 'back on the road' for around £120, it looks 'roadworn' as there are plenty of dings and scrapes but that all adds to the mojo and despite numerous offers, it ain't going anywhere!.
Finally, what's the music you played as a background to the the pickup fit, very relaxing but not banal!
    Take care

That sounds like a really nice guitar man, and a bargain to get it back up and playing too, digging the road worn mojo, i do like that, i hear you about the scratch plate, the only reason i didnt was because its faded a bit and i quite like the story it has :) and the kluson style tuners are amazing, love the ease to change the strings and they stay in tune, thats always a good thing! cheers

Man, your guitar now looks and sounds like a vintage guitar, It looks like a lot of fun to assemble all the parts, hope you hae a nice time playing it, also check out the video "BEAUTIFUL SPICY CHORDS" of Paul Davis, he plays a nice chord progression that I think you may like, cheers man

Could you put 2 humbuckers in there?

Good question! I think you’d have to route it out unless you are thinking of single coil sized humbuckers, cheers!
