  • It's been a long time coming but this is an in-depth review of my new Dangerfox Genesis 24U Studio Desk & Sidecar in Dark Walnut finish. In this video I discuss transitioning my studio setup from all in the box with UAD Apollo interfaces to a hybrid setup using Dangerfox's brilliantly designed mastering style desk giving me 24U of rack space in the desk! This is an honest review of the buying experience, time lapse of old desk breakdown and new desk assembly, a few mods, and my final thoughts on whether a desk like this is right for you.

    Jutin, I needed to come back to your video to remember why I bought my Genesis 24 U. This is 5 months, (18 weeks) since I bought the desk and I remember you saying it could take a while. Maybe even 6 months. It was supposed to ship last week, but...nope. I know the quality is going to be worth the wait, but it's pretty tough. I had a guitar hand built by Kevin Ryan and it took 9 months but that was a one-of-a-kind instrument built to specs and I knew that the wait would take place. Right now, I'm sitting in a studio with gear waiting on a desk. Hoping to hear something soon. Can't reach them on the phone. They don't answer and the message box is full. But there simply isn't another option for me. The Dangerfox fits my needs perfectly. I'm sure the craftsmanship is beyond anything else available.

    I have been looking at this desk as my other one needs replacing (mainly due to comfort issues) I’m really impressed by how it looks. Two of the things which have drawn my attention to it is the fact that you can rack mount the SSL UF8! May I ask just how easy do you find it to reach across and use the faders on the controller - does it feel comfortable to work with?
    The other thing l really like is how the keyboard tray appears to sit flush underneath the desk and not too noticeable.. The current issue that I am having with my desk is that the keyboard tray sticks out and I find myself compromising on posture, having to often slouch forward due to the keyboard tray being in the way of my chair…
    Anyway, an excellent desk and your studio looks great!

      Thanks for the love! I love the desk, very comfortable to work with respect to the reach of the UF8. The keyboard tray height is great and feels very comfortable now that I have the foam corner guards on it. I cannot understate how beautiful and impressive this desk is in the studio. If you're debating pulling the trigger, do it! You'll be glad you did. Cheers!

      I have a UF8 as well. It's going to fit in nice in the rack. I also have a UC1 and I've gotten conflicting reports on whether it can fit into a rack. I have the rack frames for it and I think it will go into a 500 series rack installation. If not, I know it will fit right into the tray. I have an AMS RMX reverb that will fit into a 500 series rack so, all that's left is to wait for the desk to arrive. I'm sure that once it's here and put together, I'm going to forget all about the long wait. Getting updates on the progress hasn't been their strong suit. I know this desk isn't slapped together. Like most serious craftwork, you need to be patient.

    Most high end desk's use MDF due to acoustic reason. Solid wood and plywood causes distortion issues with reflections which is not good that can cause comb filtering issues with acoustics. Argosy Console uses a combination of a steel metal frame and MDF for their construction which is in my option the most durable design in the industry which is why you see the 90 series consoles from the 90s still in use today. They are actually the original creators and designers of the Console enclosure desks and the Dual angle racked styled desks that all other manufactures have copied over the past 20 years.

      Yup. You see Argosy is just about every major recordin studio. Dangerfox is good but they don't have brand recognition. They also don't design large format consoles like what Argosy does as Argosy makes desks for the SSLs and Neve mixers along with those massive avid desks for post production.

      @@musicproducer9952 Dangerfox is a small family operation with an emphasis on quality construction. I checked out a lot of desks before seeing that there is nothing that compares to the Genesis 24U for my needs. Be prepared to wait.

      @@TN48005 I hate to hear that, but you are not the first to say it. I got very frustrated trying to get straight answers from them when I bought mine. When it did finally arrive, I was very impressed with it and still am, but if you never get what you pay for... That's f'd up! Cheers!

    Justin, I ordered mine at the beginning of June 2022. It said 10-12 weeks which is like 3 months. Yours took 6 months?

      I need the keyboard tray brackets for my Genesis 24U and i ordered speaker stands from them as well. I was sent brackets that don’t fit and they haven’t sent me the correct ones and they havent’t told me what the status of my speaker stands are. Always excuses and even had me taking measurements for brackets saying this had never happen before. The correction should be very simple and actually mistake shouldn’t have ever happen. I have so many complaints about them I wouldn’t recommend anyone buy anything from them. They’ve treated me unfairly after spending over 8K with them and my studio is STILL not back up and at this point it’s cost me 2 projects. I do this professionally, it’s not a hobby. I’m on budget. STAY AWAY BUY SOMEWHERE ELSE.

      @@kennethwilliams4725 I ordered my Gen 24U the first week of June 2022 and I am still waiting 16 weeks now and I was told supply issues with a delay of 3 weeks on week 12.5 it is now the end of week 16 and he told me its due to supply issues. I am stuck in not knowing what to think. I wish they would please change the 10-12 week window on the website so people do not have their hopes up that they will get it in that time frame. If anyone could advise on this I would appreciate it.

      @Braxal hey Mr braxal are you really still vouching for this dangerfox guy because this guy is the worst he has done nothing but lied to me for 5 months no proof or sign of a desk said he refunded my money that I never received he goes M I A all i wanted was my money returned because he couldn't deliver just wanted to move on i honestly don't think I'll ever see that money. I've been talking to attorneys all day filed complaints on the state and federal level, but this guy continues to keep me in this nightmare. When he does respond nothing but excuses how can you vouch for this dude Aaron Mathew?

    I’ve heard their lead time is now a year which is too long in my opinion..also, Andrew masters now has a console. lol.

      A year is a LONG time but that doesn't surprise me. I do love my Dangerfox desk though! Andrew Master's console is sick and it's sitting a custom Dangerfox split bay desk. Looks sharp! DIg your channel by the way! Cheers!

      lead time for quality is ok. But LYING and promising 12 weeks, when in reality the wait is 12 MONTHS is gross deceit! That’s the issue my friend. NOT the timing. Also, how does he get to hold/keep YOUR money (interest free) while he funds his enterprise. Your hard earned $$ undoubtably paid for someone ELSE’s desk, before you took receipt of yours.
      1. He’s funding his business on FALSE lead times.
      2. His policy states no refunds, so he’s got your cash.
      3. He repeatedly, lies and then eventually stops comms altogether- while you WAIT INDEFINITELY!!

    I ordered mine the end of March. Still waiting. Hopefully I get a tracking number this week. Does anyone else have a hard time getting in contact with them?

      Keith, you are right at 12 weeks or so. I hope yours is coming now soon. I hope this is not a 6 month or so wait. Dangerfox has our money and hate to see us wait that long.

      Same. Ordered mine in May and the 12 week mark is up. They said they have a supply chain issue 3 week delay

      10/11/2022
      I received an email from Dangerfox owner Arron Mathew on Wednesday Oct 5th saying the following: “We got everything in motion for you. Your keyboard tray side panels will be going out this week. Your stands should be coming soon. I'll get an ETA on those for you.”
      You would think this would be good news, but here’s the thing, I’ve heard this over and over again until it’s turned into a broken record. Today is Oct 11th, 6 days later and I’ve gotten no notification that my missing parts have been shipped. The above is the direct quote from email I received so I’m not mistaken or exaggerating my parts should have shipped before or on Friday at the latest according to their words. I say again save your money and stay away from Dangerfox. It’s not worth the aggravation or workflow interruption. I’m continuing with my Attorney General office and Better Business Bureau complaint.

      Ordered mine June 26 2022 and nothing! So it's been 6 months and I've been cool since this video gave me a warning. But they answer size and dimension questions all day with me in their chat, but not when I ask about where my desk stands in the process. STRESSFUL

    After having the desk for awhile it has one major/minor flaw. The front board that goes across where your arm pad is not supported in the middle and when you place your arms on the desk it bows. I am not happy with it. He told me that it should be fine but that bowing when putting your your arms down is not good. IO am sure after time it may cause issues. I really like the design other than that.

      Hey Braxal, I was going to reply on your last comment asking about your desk. I haven't experienced that with my desk. is it the foam arm rest or the actual desktop? My desktop cam with an insert giving it two layers of 3/4" wood and doesn't flex at all. That's a bummer!

      @@justinbrogdon I think they modified the manufacturing of the desk since you got yours. Mine did not come with 2 boards with one with the pad on it and the other that sits on top of it. Instead mine is just one board with the arm rest pad on it. The desk is just over 5 ft. long with the only support being the 2 ends of the desk. When you put your arms on the arm rest you can feel a slight give and you can see it if you do any kind of leaning on the desk. I do not think there should be this kind of play at all. I know Aaron says it should be fine but, it makes me feel like the desk is weak that I cannot feel comfortable leaning my arms on the padded part at all without feeling like I am going to make that board bow down. I wonder if there is a clean solution to fix this issue without ruining the desk looks or value and still be able to take the desk apart and put it back together if you need to.

      @@braxal6983 I wish I’d never heard of Dangerfox. The absolute worst buying and serving experience I’ve ever had as a musician and engineer. I’m still owed another set of Sound Anchor speaker stands. I had to modify the keyboard tray myself as they NEVER got that flaw worked out. I could have gotten a cheaper desk and saved THOUSANDS of dollars and been happier. I wouldn’t suggest or recommend anyone buy anything from Dangerfox and I will forever tell as many people as possible to stay away from that company and Aaron.

I also was very upset when I had been waiting well over six months to watch Dangefox come out with new products and act quickly to get them into RUclipsrs hands as fast as possible while ignoring the customer base.

    Unlike you, I still don’t have my completed desk. I see you have your keyboard tray and I have to wonder how difficult is it for them to duplicate the process on each desk made…not difficult at all yet that’s the holdup along with my speaker stands missing from the order. Whether you say it or not we’re small businesses and I had a timeline for my studio being backup so that I could continue to make a living mixing. I’m two months behind and two projects I’ve had to turn down because my studio isn’t up and running. I turned down touring work in order to complete my studio revamp. The company is not right. It’s like a pretty girl that treats you horribly, she loses her appeal. Another manufacturer told me I’d be sorry, I thought they were just jealous I didn’t order their product.

    BBB agreed that I had a legitimate complaint, with that I’d expect to hear from the Texas AG soon. All I have heard from Dangerfox’s owner is an agreement and another apology (one of many that followed with NO corrective action to provide a solution and closure to my MISSING AND INCORRECT PARTS)that they’ve been messing up. Here’s the thing, owner’s saying HE’s on it now, well I’ve been speaking with HIM in every correspondence so NO, I don’t trust ‘em and I’m not stopping a damn thing I’m doing I’ve made him aware of this too. I’ve got a deadline as to when I stop listening to the rhetoric and bring in an attorney.
    Now let’s be clear, the only way to combat corporate behavior like this is to let it be known that we as consumers won’t tolerate our buying dollars being disrespected but EXPECTED.

      To whom it may concern all this social media is new to me so I don't know who I'm communicating with but in regards to this dangerfox situations I've experienced one of the the worse experience of business practices in my life and I am 57 years old. If I would have seen all of these comments earlier its no way I would have given my money to this business.whoever is vouching for this company needs to stop until they can do better than how there conducting business. I'm 5 months in no communication they never sent this render he's been talking about for the 5 months last time i did get a response samething he's pretty much saying to everyone else excuses I honestly don't even no if he's still in business. I can talk forever about my experience with this company however I'm seeking Info on how to deal with this situation. My last attempt to reach out to dangerfox in regards to that desk was 2 days ago and I got no response.

    My experience with Dangerfox has not been even close to good. I brought a Genesis 24U (2) Sidecars. Keyboard shelf, optional monitor stand. Speaker stands all at a total close to 8K, I still don’t have the correct keyboard brackets they had me measuring the brackets. Haven’t told me where my speaker stands are and it’s always an excuse. Five months of waiting order not correct. They don’t get back to you when or as they say they will.
    I feel I’ve been taken advantage of and my studio is still not assembled. They’re now not responding. It’s not fair and it’s not right. Everything about dealing with them has been horrible. I can say this had been the worst buying experience of my life sincerely. I wouldn’t recommend anyone buy from them. I can’t even comment on the desk as I haven’t used it and I”m so pissed right now. I can barely stand to look at it.

      Kenneth, I hate to hear that but I understand. Waiting and communicating with them on my order was a major grind. I was and am very happy with the final product but I don't blame you for feeling the way you do. You spend a lot of money to get a great product and have a great customer servcie experience and it seems to be very hit and miss in terms of the customer service. Good luck getting the rest of your order sorted out and getting back up and running.👊

      @@justinbrogdon honestly it’s really a very simple thing. They’re making it out to be something complicated. 1. He needs brackets. Make new brackets, send them to me. 2. He hasn’t received his speakers stands. Check on the order. Find out either they ordered them or they didn’t and order them and let me know when they’ll arrive. Also give me the option of a direct refund if I don’t want to wait. Email, text or call me tell me what’s going on. They had no problem taking our money and if organization of orders or keeping customers informed is too much for them while manufacturing then GET SOMEONE ELSE to ONLY do that part. How long would you be in business if you treated your customers like I’ve been treated. My next move is to go to all the professional organizations I have associations with and put the word on out on Dangerfox.

      @@CTJonze no, I’m still missing a pair of Sound Anchor speaker stand. I just finished altering the keyboard tray that sits under desk because the way they put it you couldn’t slide your legs under desk or play a keyboard sitting in sweet spot. Overall I’m very dissatisfied because I could have brought a MUCH cheaper desk that would have probably served me as well or I’d say better because I would have spent as much money or lost so much time. I’m about to start reaching out to them again about my other speaker stand

      @Kenneth Williams Hey Kenneth don't no if you filed any of those complaints but it won't hurt at least it will prove that there's more than one of us. My latest experience with dangerfox I was sent a bogus refund receipt going on 3 weeks ago no sign of the money contacted Aaron after 10 days when he finally responds he said he would check it out and then he goes M.I.A again after observing the receipt its bullshit.no type of credit card numbers or symbols.
