Your children owe you respect and you are not just someone giving money and calling coming by when you get ready . They would give that much to a friend .

This has been so helpful and I took notes. It’s been a struggle for quite some time for me. I’m from Canada, and 3 years ago we moved to the next province over and my kids went different ways for schooling. My youngest is now working and living where he grew up and my oldest is still in university in a different province. It has been extremely difficult going through this alone because I have had no one to talk to or share with and have not known how to process my emotions or how to deal with all this. It has been difficult to be around families where their young adult kids are still at home and I have felt so alone. I haven’t met anyone in our new city yet where I could have these kinds of conversations with nor have family to talk to about this stuff. I’ve started journaling which is somewhat helpful. I have watched a couple of your videos about empty nest and it has been helpful.

Hi, I am in the same boat as you. We moved for my husbands job to Japan and my adult child who was 24 when we moved, decided to stay behind in the previous place we were living Australia. It is like a grieving process and it seems when you do talk to someone , either they are not at this stage yet so they don't get how hard it actually is, or kinda dismiss it like you are being too dramatic..I have been kinda reclusive too. I am slowly forcing myself to get out and explore and try new things, recently started a new craft, and exercise routine.. I like your journaling idea. I think we need to let ourselves feel the emotions to get through this and it's gonna take time...

This helped so much. Mine is 25 and I still get caught doing this.. I once read somewhere to listen to them let them vent, and then turn it back to them and say , so gosh , what do you think you should do? Keep directing them back to find the solution on their own. My adult child will sometimes say mom I just need to vent , not solutions... 😂 it takes years but I can say it will get easier , you wont worry as much eventually , you will still get sad once and awhile... This usually happens when we are about ready for menopause too, so it's a rough part of life.. These are some great tips! Thanks for sharing.. ❤

My two girls have been gone 10 years snd I still struggle. They’re successful so there’s no problem there. I LOVE not having ANYONE else to worry about but motherhood was my life except for working out, yoga, hanging out with my healthy 92 yo mother and house snd yard. I haven’t discovered any great social group which would help. Hubby is good but he’s busy. Grand kid in Cambridge ( daughter just graduated from HBS! Went at same time she had a child! He’s two now). I don’t have it all figured out. Thanks for listening.

They're always our kids. Thank you for the viewpoint from someone further into it than just a week.!!

The tears come rolling down as the baby leaves the nest. This is what I needed to hear tonight as my youngest moved into her dorm today.

Thanks for your thoughtful insights - so helpful! I'm a twin mom too and the "suddenness" is hard! Not "thriving" yet (at all!) but it's a work in process...

Thank you for this video - really gave me some helpful perspectives. I’m finding it hard to find a new purpose in life - need to find things to keep me busy. Would love any other books or resources are good on this topic. I think it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do and I’ve had to do a lot of hard things!!!

I’m not yet an empty nester ,but I am going through a hard time with my daughter getting married and leaving the family home. I am a recent widow and going through menopause. I wanted my daughter to get married and am happy for her, but I feel really emotional about her leaving . I now see that I was to attached to her. It’s a strange set of circumstances that have completely caught me off guard. I can’t believe I did see this coming. I can’t understand why I am having such a difficult time with what should be one of the happiest times of my life. I am wondering if I have abandonment issues. Any insight would be appreciated.

Would really appreciate if you can talk about high testosterone in young women and options?

My focus is on midlife but in young women this is usually PCOS.... lots of info out there about that. If you search for PCOS you will find lots of educational resources!

The sorority process sounds like it’s horrible for a girl’s mental health!
