    Time warp does do something special other walks can't do: it can give your opponent the extra turn instead. Why would you want that? Well, for the lulz, mostly

      actually no joke i play kami, of the crescent moon as my edh commander, and one time i had everyone drawing about 10 cards per turn plus forced frutition out, well i played black vice, targeted my friend and then i played time warp and made him go into and extra turn and black vice killed him....

    • @SmugLookingBarrel
      @SmugLookingBarrel 5 лет назад +24

      Here's my theory: Nexus was printed at a time where Torrential Gearhulk was popular in standard, and they didn't want Nexus to be able to be milled into your graveyard and then flashed back by gearhulk, so they made it shuffle itself back into your library to nerf it.

    • @phillipmele8533
      @phillipmele8533 5 лет назад +13

      Yeah that’s the thing, Evan brought up the counterpoint to this weird reshuffle effect: it should’ve just exiled itself, exactly like Karn’s Temporal Sundering. It’d have still been powerful, for God’s sake it’s an instant-speed timewalk effect, but there was no need for it to go infinite.

    I'm sad Magistrate's Scepter wasn't mentioned. I run it in a counter combo deck with Energy Chamber, Power Conduit and Coretapper, it's pretty efficient and can score infinite turns with enough cards on the board.

    My own time walk deck was fast green mana and lot of wurm cards like crush of wurms where you get 3 big green tokens and you could play it again from the graveyard. So Id have at least 5 or 6 6/6 creatures and id play my blue take 2 extra turns card next turn attack and play 5 or so more wurms either he blocks or dies . 2nd turn he cant block even more , he dies :) It took a lot to get rolling but it was so fun when it happened haha.

    Final Fortune seems like a good pairing with Galvanic Relay. Storm for a shitload, toss in a cheap Timewalk effect, then you have like 20 cards worth of stuff to off your tapped out opponent next turn. Been watching Storm Squirrel vids in pauper lately and wondering how crazy it could get with more power behind it.

  • @MrVariant

    Karn's temporal sundering is made for commander, especially kess where you can just discard it early game like with chart a course or faithless looting, and then summon kess and play this turn 6 if they don't kill your commander. Bouncing a card to hit twice is basically a double strike for everyone.

    timeshifter is the best extra turns card :D repeatable and Random!. Nothing funner then trying to figure outs whos turn it is when extra turns stack on extra turns :D Like get more then one in play, then you need to start tracking the stacked turn orders that are waiting to take place in case they get destroyed; And if you don't get the next extra turn from timeshifter , play something like Time Warp to get the next turn, thus pushing the other players extra turn to the stack. And once your new upkeep triggers a new timeshifter triggers. Etc etc :D. One of my best old decks runs Timeshifters and Kaboom!s to win :D; its dumb and people hate it, so don't play it more then once in a while

    Maybe I'm just posting on old videos but I don't understand why Final Fortune can be good enough to make top 4 but Chance For Glory is considered stone cold unplayable.

    Its impossible to reanimate enrakul. The card shuffle itself from grave.

      @NizzahonMagic  5 лет назад +2

      You can do it with instant speed reanimation spells like Goryo's Vengenace. You do it in response to the trigger.

      @@hydracollector3588 Some creatures truly can't be reanimated because they have replacement effects. The key thing to look out for is the word "instead." Cards like Darksteel Colossus or Progenitus say if it would be put into a graveyard, shuffle it back into its owner's library INSTEAD. That means it never makes it to the graveyard so there's never a chance to use a reanimation spell.
      Since Emrakul the Aeon's Torn, or other similar cards like Worldspine Wurm don't say instead, they're just regular triggers, which mean you can respond to them with any instant effects. Shallow Grave, Miraculous Recovery, Makeshift Mannequin, etc. are all ways you can pop those cards into play before the shuffle trigger happens.

    It’s telling to the state of the game that there even are 10 time walk effects. It’s even more telling that the color with the most representation on the list gets to literally do everything else with minimal downside.

      With Magic you can still ineract with them even if they keep getting extra turn you just have to keep mana up to interact, and i get it you think it shouldnt be possible to take an extra turn but also this is a game where you can turn 2 get a 10 power prime time with double strike swinging.

    • @phillipmele8533
      @phillipmele8533 5 лет назад +1

      I mean, counterspells exist. The issue with Time Walk effects is making sure they have a significant up-front investment so that you have to spend a majority of a turn getting that free turn, so that it comes to having something like 1 and 1/2 turns.

    • @TheSquareOnes
      @TheSquareOnes 5 лет назад

      @@phillipmele8533 This, counterspells and other instant speed interactions allow Magic to get away with printing effects that might seem insane in other systems but that are actually quite reasonable in practice. At best you could argue that the poor allocation of effects into the color pie is rather unbalanced (for the example of this specific issue, blue is realistically the only color that gets both the problematic effect and the answer to it) but that's an entirely different issue, there's nothing wrong with appropriately costed extra turn effects themselves.
