    As a GA stol pilot I amazed as the technique is identical. I will be recommending this video to newbe pilots as a basic plain language tutorial.
    Well done

      Thank you! We fly and instruct in both rc and full scale tailwheels which is why you’re seeing a lot of similarities to full scale. Full scale techniques and procedures are a great way to improve stick and rudder work when applied to RC. -Zach

    Just watch this first time, after flying RC for 30 years, I found this a very valuable lesson. I’m looking forward to getting a plane out of the field very soon to practice this. Thank you. I saw a lot of my own problems in the lessons you were teaching and the common problems section. 👏👏

    Wow !! Landing looks so easy. Maybe I'll really try hard to not crash long enough to try it !!
    I mean, the plane does come down, but it doesn't qualify as a "landing" if you take the plane parts home in a big trash bag.

    Unfortunately, at the club I belong to the runway has maybe a 50' flat top and then goes downhill! Tall grass, a road and trees complicate landings especially for a new guy like me.

    I love your style and information! I'm struggling with landing sailplanes with short runways. Basically sailing by the marina. Do most experienced pilots catch their planes?

    • @TailHeavyProductions
      @TailHeavyProductions  2 года назад +2

      Thanks! I’m not big in the sailplane community to know what the majority of pilots do, but catching is an option for sure - alongside a standard landing. The technique that helps with any landing, especially a slippery bird like a sailplane, is to come in at the proper approach angle of attack/speed. Get your glider slowed down to just comfortably enough above a stall by the time you’re turning final and keep it stable there to the round out and flare and you won’t end up eating the entire runway. In full scale, approach speed generally is 1.3x your stall speed in a landing configuration, for reference. -Zach

    Great video. This is the first video i have seen for RC planes that mentions down elevator to pin wheels down. I learned to fly rc on a 1/4 scale j3 cub and my instructor was a full scale pilot that flew tailwheel planes and i was shown that and keeping the rudder alive on roll out. I see so many rc pilots that dont use the rudder. My daughter is learning on a big j3 like i did, learn those stick and rudder skills.

      We definitely had fun with it while we owned it, but it wasn't our favorite plane for several reasons, the primary being too small of a rudder surface for the type of flying we liked doing. It made a great permanent float plane though! -Zach

    Why was it necessary to replace taildragger or standard gear aircraft with tailwheel? A tailwheel is a component of a taildragger or standard landing gear aircraft. Taildragger not cool enough for you?

    • @TailHeavyProductions
      @TailHeavyProductions  Год назад

      There’s also “conventional” gear. “Tailwheel” is the most used term to represent this gear configuration in the full scale world, which is why we used it. Heck - even the FAA uses the term in the Airplane Flying Handbook which we reference when teaching ground to our full scale tailwheel students, too. 👍

      First - be sure your elevator travel is maxed out both digitally and mechanically. Some of the lighter foam warbirds flip pretty easy on the grass if you don’t have prop wash going over the tail with up elevator input applied. If that doesn’t fix it, the grass may be too tall. 👍
