Upon sighting a new Sharpe upload, I immediately clicked on it, that’s my style sir!
Did any viewer distinguish himself?
This video has friends at horseguards, sir.
Huzzah!
And that’s soldiering
hahahaha
Gotta love how both Sharpe and Hogan try to get away with taking the shilling before Wellington takes it back lol
Randomly put a shilling in my grasp when no one seems to have one, I keep it. That’s my style, sir!
unlike some things that start with shi... Shillings roll up-hill.

"Do without, sir."
Sir Arthur almost looks impressed. If a bit annoyed as well 😂
I love how Sharpe and Hogan both tried to make it out of there with that shilling. Speaks of their mentality and upbringing. Also Sharpe's response; "You make do without, sir" tells so much about where he came from.
Note the look of approval from Wellington, Wellington was from a family of poets in Ireland, bankrupted his family sent him to military school to avoid paying for his education. Against all odds he excelled and the rest is history.
Sharpe wasnt a wasteful person.
Punching a superior officer outside of the field marshals office? That's soldiering.
General. Wellesley (at the time) doesn't become a Field Marshal until 1812 after the Battle of Vitoria, when Marshal Jourdan's baton was captured and sent back to London.
Proof that Sharpe isn't going to take any bullshit. He's a soldier not someone playing at it. Plus he's proud of his accomplishment & won't let someone who bought rank besmirch what he's earned
probably another lowly lieutenant
Well....he kicked him, so it's fair.
Major Hogan is to Sir Arthur as Major Sargent Harper is ti Sharpe. Spendid juxposition of roles!
Clicking on a sharpe video the same day it’s uploaded,
Now that’s soldering!
I love the "not one of us!"
Welly was Anglo-Irish. Thick enough blood not to be questioned but not thin enough to forget where he came from.
I like to think that when Wellington goes home to England and gets called before the King, the King holds out his hand for the shilling.
The movies where Sean Bean NEVER will die.
Wellington looks like a new man in later series. Now thats soldiering
In part 1&2 is the actor David Trougton. And in the other part's Hugh Fraser.
@@turboegon Are you German? You just killed the joke in the way a German would
@@mynamejeff785it seems unlikely that a German person would know who either of those 2 actors are.
I think Hugh was the better of the two. Liked Hogan the best of the intel officers.@@turboegon
He Regenerated
Great writing and acting. So much story and character building in a very short scene.
Still uploading Sharpe videos after so many years? Now that’s soldiering!
They made a mistake with the naming the video. They put 'Sharpe's Perial' instead of 'Sharpe's Rifles'.
Thanks.
They've been doing that with all their recent uploads. Sloppy work. Poor soldiering.
The officer who tripped him was unprofessional in the extreme and should have been reprimanded. Having said that, I remember just how petty the modern army can be.
i love how he tripped sharpe in quite a subtle way and richard just turned and slammed him in front of everyone
Love the way there's no telling off for Sharpe for shoving that guy, just a hand to say "that's sufficient".
Mainly cause the guy taught Sharpe how to read and write when they were in India.
He knows if Sharpe’s ability and not to take crap from anyone, he also knows Sharpe does require that one guiding hand to hold him back.
Patrick would take that role
Climbing short technical routes up big rocks? That's bouldering.
If Sharpe just got a uniform, courtesy of Hogan, why is there already a hole on his elbow?
second hand uniform, probably.
Stripped off a dead officer most likely
No-one ever said it was a new one, let alone tailored to his size...
Ready broken in was it?
@@sksaddrakk5183
Literally. It's why he keeps the upper buttons undone, since it was tailored for a smaller actor/officer.
So throughly enjoyable.
The best Maj Hogan IMO.
The British uniforms were just wow!!! 😍😍😍
Green was best
This is my favorite sharpe Episode! The one succeeding it is my second favorite.
Excellent series.
I love the music to this.
Hogan was doing blow all throughout the show 😂😂
Ok so been watching game of thrones shorts and this came up. Kin Sean Bean!
Posting HD Sharpe on RUclips without Spanish subtitles? Now that's soldiering
Did sir author know that Col Lawford back story before this meeting?
takeaway from this series - no one is really your friend, everyone will try to use you until you're no longer useful to them
Been bad recently hasn't it kid. 😕. Life will surprise you. Sometimes it's the total stranger or the enemy who saves the day. Hang on in their.
Why is the video titled as Sharpe's Peril? This is Sharpe's Rifles
Yeah, you just try to hit him at his calf!Sharpe's a legend.
I'm still thrown off by the Sharpe's Peril in the title for these.
I think the title is wrong - this is one of the first installments, no? Not Sharpe's Peril.
Yeah, it's the first one, Sharpe's Rifles.
Commenting on how thats my style, sir. Thats my style, sir.
0:58 😅😅 High school years
sharpe: you go without
British government: ah, thats where we have been going wrong all these years
They should remake the series. I am a fan of the original.
pygmalion.
for all his virtues, sharpe is a babe in the woods in many aspects.
leaders like hogan and wellington, who are heroes in their own right, do not be confused on that point, overlook sharpe's deficiencies and start his education. and sharpe is a fast learner ...
Pushing superclass fools that's soldiering.
Sharpe, I don’t think this is sharpe’s peril
Sharpe about to give that man something he can handle, and much more later
A shilling that five pence in modern money. Not much for soldiering. But then a loaf of bread and a pound of tea were a tiny fraction of what they are now. Our purses and wallets, would make us very rich indeed, then.
According to the inflation calculator on the bank of england's website, 1£ in 1804 is around 83£ today. Being that a shilling was the twentieth part of a pound, a shilling today would be 4,15£, and 1 shilling was the daily pay so monthly wages would be around 125£ in today's money give or take. To that you must add the initial bounty of £23/17/6d (in 1812).
A shilling is 12 pence. So if this is set in 1804 and is been over 2 centuries of inflation how has it become equivalent of 5 pence today. I understand that the decimalisation of the pound occurred in 1971 and that may have Impacted values. But how did you reach the figure of 5 pence?
@@thomasvanner1170 A shilling was made the equivalent of five pence in the literature published at the time of decimalisation. No idea why they decided that. I learned that at school, when I was 10. The process of decimalisation was utterly crazy like quantum physics. Another example 50p is half of a modern pound, but 10 shilling notes, also known as ten bob notes were worth 50p, yet a guinea was deemed to be around one pound ten pence. Then there's the decimal half pences, of which I lost five pence worth, before they were scrapped. Another one, the old sixpence was worth two and a half pence. 😆
@@BufusTurbo92 But then you must deduct all the cost the soldier owed to the army and were docked from his pay and not much was left according to the books (I seem to remember something around £7 at the end). The bounty was promised upon recruitment, but as soon as the men were sworn in, they had to sign a paper that the bounty was spent in ale, food and lodgement on the way to training camp (mentioned in the book 'Sharpe's Regiment)... so one did not get rich in the King's service
@@thomasvanner1170 yep 1/20th a pound by LSD currency.
Could u imagine if a pound of gold was one coin wow sometimes the old ways are the best
And this is sharpe's rifles, not peril
Now this is soldering 😂
So Sharpe's the villain in this one, considering he's saving a Rothschild.
why? they need money for the army Rothchild had the money, how is that the villain
@Ghoulza You don't pay attention to what that family does in the world do you.
@@OldWestGunslinger-vs9mx look at on the context of the fictional TV series. I know exactly what the family does. But if his situation you would have done the same
