  • Games in this era often came down to who wanted it more. The Dallas Mavericks were a team loaded with talent. They were anchored by James Donaldson who was a no-nonsense veteran, with an adequate arsenal of moves down low. They featured Derek Harper, who was a great defender. Roy Tarpley who was a young promising player, who a lot of people had high expectations for at the time. Sam Perkins was a smooth versatile baller who could knock down a 3 or give you a bucket in the post. You won't need me to tell you about Rolando Blackman, because you'll see Rolando Blackman go right after MJ in this game. Rolando Blackman was a solid wing. Detlef Schrempf was a tremendously ultra talented young player, who could hit contested jumpers from anywhere on the court. Brad Davis also came off the bench with an explosive ball in hand game. This was a tough test for the Bulls. For Michael Jordan, as usual, he was in an absolute battle from beginning to end. And this became a situation that required Michael Jordan overcoming severe pain, in crunch time, as Michael Jordan would get injured. But in true superhero fashion, there was no way MJ would allow that injury to take him out of the game with all the kids in the crowd watching their basketball hero, on free basketball day. Enjoy!

Blitz Sports Network PSA: Always remember, the individuals who say "Michael Jordan didn't face great competition in his era" are trying to tell you something IMPORTANT. They are trying to tell you that they didn't watch the Michael Jordan era, and there are much better things you could be doing with your time rather than listening to their takes on an era they didn't even watch. Would you go to someone for an opinion on Shakespeare if they had never seen the plays Macbeth, Hamlet, or Othello? Of course you wouldn't. Consider the source. Nobody who watched that era would trash the talent all around the league. Michael Jordan played in a great era with a great blend of fierce competitors, awe inspiring athletes, lock down defenders, knock down shooters, and ultra skilled ballers.

Jordan made an average Tuesday night game must see TV. Whatever it took he would help his team win. Those defensive rebounds and defense on a hot Blackman were huge.

OMG! I had so much fun watching this video😃! This was so enjoyable, it had me jumping out of my seat. I had no idea the Mavs were stacked like that, they really had a solid team. Blackman, Perkins, Schrempt, these guys were very tough basketball players. MJ was up against some excellent talent in this one. Which once again shows you how unstoppable MJ was. He is just so mind blowing incredible at this sport. I have never seen anyone else do the things he do. I'm just fortunate to be able to witness His Airness at his finest. This man was playing with an severe injury and showed out. Thanks for putting this together, it was Fantastic! Michael Jordan Greatest Of All Time! No Questions

This young Jordan from 21 to around 28 was simply the most dominant defensive player ever. Everyone knows about his offense but defensively, he was incredible. He affected more plays and did almost as many incredible things on defense as he did on offense. He and Pippen were easily the greatest perimeter defenders ever in the NBA.

@blitz - Thanks for posting this game and your PSA. Here in the Far West (early 80s) we didn't have that many sports channels as we do in today's media world. Thus I didn't see a lot of MJ's earlier games. However, in those early days we heard about this great athlete named Michael Jordan. This early game shows me what MJ was all about. - a superb athlete and game changer. Sidenote - Those were some big guys knocking people around. Thus I can see why MJ hit the weight room to gain muscle strength.

only 15 seasons?. Did you forget he played 3 NCAA seasons. more like only 18 seasons. As much as these straight from high school fans dont wanna count those seasons because their idols did not go to NCAA. which was absolutely brutal back in the days.

@@mkhan8527 my guy are are absolutely right the NCAA wasn't soft like it is now. College teams and coaches were trying to do the same thing as what the bad boys Pistons were doing on it was in College. Just like the Pistons that didn't work either in his college years. One last bit of some info Chuck used that same imprint but tooled up for the NBA and on how his team would use it was a bit different than the college way.

There’s just no way u can watch this and not clearly notice how much more physical it was back then...physical without calls being made.
Gene Banks even grabbed a refs hand/arm and threw it off him 16:07...that didn’t get a call.
Now obviously I’m not saying that was something anybody could do at anytime to any referee...it just shows the mindset of everybody involved in the game.He was in a heated moment right before and the ref understood that. And if u noticed the commentators didn’t even acknowledge it.
If that happened today it’d be on all the dumb sports shows.
That player would probably be suspended and or fined and bla bla bla.
Just a dif game now...And if u ask the foreigner’s (aka the best players in the nba today) it’s easier than overseas b-ball.
