Brother Ross, I appreciate the simplistic effective explanations you offer about you lure choice, rod and reel, and retrieve method. You are the man. So many of these clips just show folks catching fish. Who wants to watch just that? It's as though they actually try to hide the type lure, etc. Thanks for the info.
Another great video. I enjoyed watching that flutter technique. I have always just fished spoons with a straight retrieve and maybe pause it. Great job!
Great advice on how to attach the spoon think I'll try that. Usually use the Johnson treble hook but think I'll try the single and see how it does. You have a real knack for finding the Reds
I was wondering if anyone ever use the spoon anymore. I first use it when we ran out of shrimp and then remembered they used it in the gulf and to my amazement it works on the east coast too. Great vid. thanks
RedfishRoss when ever there's fish, that's the right condition. That's the only spoon I use now. There's so many different ways to use it. If it would float, I would use it as a topwater. I've caught red drum, trout and black drum.
Great video on the ol' spoon! went to hit golf balls for the first time at your stomping grounds for the first time since Harvey. Could not believe it was gone! I hit balls anyway on the driving range with about 25 deer watching me. Do you know if they have plans on rebuilding the club house?
Hello Mr. RedfishRoss, I love your videos and am happy to be a subscriber to your channel! I wanted to know what soft bait you are using in one of your videos. It’s a soft bait green with paddle tail. What brand is it? Thank you and please keep these videos coming!
Mr. RedfishRoss, could I also use a spoon while fishing in shore? And you caught some of the prettiest reds I've ever seen, great job. Can't wait ( like always), for your next video, til then, ...Tight lines never stop!
RedfishRoss , I'm going to academy tomorrow to buy some spoons..., any recommendations? And I'm a big fan of yours, as you already know. Tight lines never stop!
Redfish Ross: Do you have or plan on doing a video of how to setup/ fine tune up your baitcaster to cast as far as you do? I have a tatula too but you throw yours double the distance I cast haha. I got a backlash my very 1st cast today using that tatula. The side of the tatula has 20 notches to play with. I’m a little overwhelmed and have no idea how to find that sweet spot ya know. Thanks for your videos and responses in the past, I really appreciate what you do. J
Hi there - I am intrigued by the length of your boat. Can you please let me know what brand and length it is? I am looking into getting a boat myself but don’t want a “huge” boat. Thanks!
lance Butler Hey Lance , I fish all over , I never decide until I get to the ramp and see where the tide level is. Then I decide where I’m going to fish that day.
RR do you have a leader line tied to your stren sensor in this video? I have this similar set up but can’t choose a line or leader to go with especially since Stren stopped making sensor. I’m looking at p-line Cxx 12lb or Maxima 12lb. What line would you think is best to look at when using a spoon? Thanks!
Been catching flounder and trout on a gold spoon usually the line of thinking is gold to Red Fish silver for trout but I've broke that myth several times
Ross Watkins Yes very true , I have caught just as many of both on either color. I will give a slight edge to silver if it’s a really overcast day and low light conditions.
@@redfishross Thank you for sharing your knowledge. When you prefer the silver on low light days, is there a reason for this? I wish we could ask the fish why!
I only use live bait and spoons, with that said, it is INSANE how many you are catching on the spoon! And reds too wow this has got to be the best spoon execution on the internet. I normally have my golden/silver spoon in the upper region of the water in the flats, should i be letting it drop some more? I am always afraid the fish will recognize it. Anyways, Great video, I have never seen such great usage of the spoon in what seems like my entire life. Thanks Mr. Ross!! -Uriel

Detective Mike Varnado Hey thanks Mike , I’m no expert , just a guy that fishes so I keep it simple.
Detective Mike Varnado you are exactly rt about other youtubers, Ross is the man
Detective Mike Varnado exactly like if you knew everything they were using you would catch every fish in the ocean
Once again, you have show us another great time on the flats. Looks as if those reds were as thick as fleas in there. Thanks for the trip. God Bless.
Mike McDonald Thanks Mike.
Thank you for not only your great videos but how you teach along the way, it's helped my fishing a lot!
Martha Herff Hey Martha , glad to hear that , thanks for watching.
Another great video. I enjoyed watching that flutter technique. I have always just fished spoons with a straight retrieve and maybe pause it. Great job!
Ryan Cash Thanks Ryan.
Great video. My the day I was born my grandpa and dad threw spoons. There is always at least five new gold spoons in my bag.
josh ray Yes Sir , when I was young I didn’t know anything else to throw at Reds.
Johnson spoons. They've been around 100 years. Love catching 'em on the old classics. Good for catching fish then, still good now.
Love it ! I'd bet that more fish have been caught on spoons than any other lure, except maybe a spinnerbait over the years. Great video !
BluzGuitar Guy Fishing Antics Thanks Bro , yes that’s very true.
Great advice on how to attach the spoon think I'll try that. Usually use the Johnson treble hook but think I'll try the single and see how it does. You have a real knack for finding the Reds
Wesley Hackney Hey thanks Wesley , yes the floating grass in too bad right now to use the treble hook spoon.
4th video i see and man can you fish,
thats the type of fishing i want to learn.
thanks for the great tips and how toos.
Felipe Balli Thanks for watching , glad you like the channel.
Good show, I like the way you fish ( old school
) like me.
jimmy littlejohn Hey thanks Jimmy.
I will be watching your videos and not the Super Bowl, am a Vietnam vet and a fisherman, Continue making your movies thanks Hervy Myers
Hervy Myers Hey thank you Sir.
The 1/4oz Johnson Silver minnow in gold is my favorite redfish lure.Especially when you see the tailing or in the reeds..
Sweet tearing them up cuzz! Tight lines! Trout.missed the big one.wow sweet.
Pretty work I'll have to try that I always overlook spoons
Capt. Riley J Rezner Hey thanks for watching Capt.
I was wondering if anyone ever use the spoon anymore. I first use it when we ran out of shrimp and then remembered they used it in the gulf and to my amazement it works on the east coast too. Great vid. thanks
BBC's Yes Sir the spoon works anywhere , thanks for watching.
Still hammers bass too.
Have you tried a Nacho Daddy Spoon? I work em the way you do, they are weedless and have a rattle. The also flutter down slower.
Ron Jaime Hey Ron , he actually sent me some of his spoons to try out and I’m just waiting on the right conditions to try them. They look really good.
RedfishRoss when ever there's fish, that's the right condition. That's the only spoon I use now. There's so many different ways to use it. If it would float, I would use it as a topwater. I've caught red drum, trout and black drum.

Cat1234 Yes they plan to rebuild once all the insurance stuff is settled.
Are you guys in South louisiana?
jimbo gasoline Hey Jimbo , no this is south Texas near Corpus Christi.
Nice fish Ross, Have a Great weekend
Brock F Thanks Brock , you also.
Awesome tip Ross! Thanks again for sharing your wisdom! Where do you get those green and white Queen Cocahoe's from?
DEAFPV I order them online from the H&H lure Co. Thanks for watching.
Great video! Did anyone else's heart jump at the sight of the fish swimming towards the camera at 0:23?!?!
Hector Tamales Thanks for watching Hector.
Hello Mr. RedfishRoss, I love your videos and am happy to be a subscriber to your channel! I wanted to know what soft bait you are using in one of your videos. It’s a soft bait green with paddle tail. What brand is it? Thank you and please keep these videos coming!
Hector Castaneda Hey thanks Hector , that lure would be the Queen Cocahoe made by the H&H Lure Co.
Mr. RedfishRoss, could I also use a spoon while fishing in shore? And you caught some of the prettiest reds I've ever seen, great job. Can't wait ( like always), for your next video, til then, ...Tight lines never stop!
Joe Anthony Hey Joe , yes for sure you could use it. They work anywhere.
RedfishRoss , I'm going to academy tomorrow to buy some spoons..., any recommendations? And I'm a big fan of yours, as you already know. Tight lines never stop!
Joe Anthony Can’t go wrong with the 1/2 ounce Johnson’s spoon in either gold or silver both catch the same in my experience.
RedfishRoss i buy gold, when the where out, i polish them down to silver
I haven't seen you using that modified Cordell??
Scott Stevens Too much floating grass at this time , I will use it when it goes away.
Hello thanks for you video.and what place is that?
I will have to try that the next time I go out!
Dewey Cash Hey Dewey , I think you find you get more strikes , thanks for watching.
Excellent video. What rod and reel set up were you using?
john gomez Daiwa Tatula and 7’6” Duckett med hvy.
Great video again 👍no flounder yet? Soon real soon 🎣🐟🐟🐟
James Scarberry True flounder will be moving out soon , I really don’t fish for them as I don’t have the patience to fish that slow lol.
Good video Ross
WILD YAKER Thanks !
Great video sir. Do u put any weight on your line to cast it as far as u do?
Wesley Spinks No Sir , just the lure. Thanks for watching.
Redfish Ross: Do you have or plan on doing a video of how to setup/ fine tune up your baitcaster to cast as far as you do? I have a tatula too but you throw yours double the distance I cast haha. J
I need to try that flutter technique the trolling motor is still holding up
Vinfish F Yes I believe fluttering the spoon draws more strikes. The trolling motor still doing great.
Nice Finns......gett the home front back in order!!
Wes Lovelace Yes Sir , Thanks.
Hi there - I am intrigued by the length of your boat. Can you please let me know what brand and length it is? I am looking into getting a boat myself but don’t want a “huge” boat. Thanks!
Jochen Brosien Hey Jochen , here’s a video I did on my boat ruclips.net/video/uGwTlHeAW2s/видео.html.
What kind of bay boat are you fishing from. Looks could go real shallow. Thanks for video.
Jim Mclelland Hey Jim , yes it will run super shallow , here’s a walk thru video I did on it . ruclips.net/video/uGwTlHeAW2s/видео.html
Got any video of the flutter technique showing the reel & hands?
Thanks for the great videos Ross. Was there yesterday and boy was it cold and windy. Where specifically do you like to go?
lance Butler Hey Lance , I fish all over , I never decide until I get to the ramp and see where the tide level is.
Thanks!
Joshua Gautreau I would go with the CXX , I use this knot instead of a leader . ruclips.net/video/F0kL-z-LaTE/видео.html
Awesome video.
Two Minute Videos Thanks Bro.
Old reliable never fails. My only complaint about Johnson spoons is that the hooks are so dull. That said, they sure do catch fish.
Taylor Chaney Very true Taylor , when they put the coating on it dulls the hook a little. I always hit it with a little hook hone to fix that.
Redfish Ross, what is your camera setup for capturing these adventures. I want to make so videos of my fishing trips.
lnl111130 Right now I’m using a Hero 3 Black + chest cam for cast to catch action and a Hero 5 Black mounted to the console for showing the fish.
Great fishing my friend
addictiontothewild Thanks !

@@redfishross Thank you for sharing your knowledge. When you prefer the silver on low light days, is there a reason for this? I wish we could ask the fish why!
Parker Rogers I think the silver stands out a little more in low light conditions.
I only use live bait and spoons, with that said, it is INSANE how many you are catching on the spoon! And reds too wow this has got to be the best spoon execution on the internet. -Uriel
Uriel Ruiz Hey thanks a lot Uriel , yes by letting the spoon drop it flutters like a dying bait fish and will get you more strikes.
I smacked the specs this morning
Can you access that spot with a kayak? Or is it to far and would need a boat like you?
MegaPearlman Yes you need a boat , too far to paddle.
In another couple of weeks I'll be moving the structure like train Bridges and Road Bridges
Ross Watkins Yes as it gets cooler they will move.
Do you ever keep anything?
Nicholas Dagher Hey Nicholas , yes when I get hungry for fish I will keep a good size Redfish , don’t really care to eat trout though.
RedfishRoss cool :) if you want some crab tips i got a vid on my main channel if u get hungry for some blue crab lol
Right now in Lake Pontchartrain it's hard baits jerkbaits X raps mirrolure lure hardbaits on grass edges
Would like to see the retrieve method, but the reel is out of the camera. Are you constantly reeling or letting the lure settle at times?
Perry Ruthven Hey Perry , here’s a video I did on my Retrieve ruclips.net/video/kyaGV5mBZ4Q/видео.html
Good spoon imitate Pogies.
Howard Taylor True !
The 7 thumbs down are just jealous they can't catch no game fish
What action do you use of your rod?
Angel Castro It’s a Medium Heavy.
And you throw 1/8 oz lures on that
Angel Castro yes no problem.
I love my Johnson spoons !
Where was this
Marvin Diaz Aransas Pass Texas.
Lake Pontchartrain Louisiana Slidell Louisiana
Ross Watkins Yes the Sportsman’s Paradise.
Fish at :25
Thanks for saving everyone:25 seconds. Have you any other heroic things.
Looks like a silver minnow. Dont think the Sprite is weedless.
NS True I used the wrong name , Sprite has a treble hook.
