    I'm actually currently reading Alison Weir's book, Henry VIII The King and His Court. He wanted Anne gone because she didn't give him a son, the same reason he married 6 times. The one wife who did, Jane Seymour, died after childbirth.

      Hey, is it good. I just reviewed a book on my channel about the British monarchy. When it got to the Tudors, It was filled with many errors. I always see that book in my recommended I’ve liked most of her books. The only one I really didn’t like was the book Lancaster and York. I just couldn’t get into it.

    That accident - being thrown off a horse - resulted in a severe head injury and a massive shift in his personality. Apparently, Henry VIII was a pretty good guy before he hit brain-damaged.

      Yes I think so. It's interesting to look at his actions before and after the accident.

      @LKMNOP 2 месяца назад +5

      Actually, if you read histories of him you will see that all is tendencies were there even when he was young. And there's no contemporary evidence that he had massive brain damage. He was unconscious for a minute or maybe two. That was it.

      @roseprevost8081 2 месяца назад +6

      Watch Inside the Body of Henry VIII. They recreate the accident, and surmise he only survived because he was wearing full armor. nd that wasn't the only accident. He was also hit just above the eye with a lance while jousting.

The Stuart dynasty ruled Scotland until James VI of Scotland inherited the English throne in 1603, but the formal union of the kingdoms was under Queen Anne,

    Just for the record, Henry was never a Protestant. He did, indeed, break with Rome, but under his Six Articles of 1539, Catholic doctrine was reaffirmed, with denial of the Catholic doctrine of Transubstantiation being punishable by burning at the stake. Whilst he leaned more toward Protestantism later in his reign, he lived and died a Catholic, a bad Catholic, but still a Catholic.

    What do I think? I think King Henry VIII's tendency for executing wives is exaggerated. Only two of the six wives were executed, and they were executed, for the most part (if not all,) on false accusations and evidence obtained and charged by members of Henry's court. How much of these fabrications Henry VIII actually knew about is debatable, but the fact of the matter is, Henry VIII was no more of a wife-beat-- er ---killer than (unfortunately) too many other husbands (royal or not) have been throughout history.
    (edit: word omission)

  • @murmursmeglos

    Ironically Henry's barmy ways allowed England to redefine its monarchy in its own image, breaking away from Rome meant the king/queen had to answer to the people and didn't have the Pope as back-up to support anything they did. It became a constitutional monarchy while other countries descended into absolute monarchs. He set England on the path to becoming a formidable presence, though perhaps his daughter Liz 1 deserves more credit for making the best of these developments. It led to the Bible being translated into English, not just Latin. You could even credit him with creating America, as his religious changes created numerous religious groups, including Puritans.
