George Lucas’ statements have evolved over the years, and are actually spoken from “a certain point of view,” you might say. Lucas says that the original film was “in the middle”, which is actually classic storytelling. You create a backstory and a post-story for your main story. I was in grad school when the original film was released. With the release of Ep.5, and the renaming of the original film to Ep.4., Lucas explained that he was telling the middle story. Lucas said that an Ep.6 was planned. He also said that original trilogy was the actually the entire “middle” story that he had originally wanted to tell. The original story that he wanted to tell was just too long for a single two hour film. At that time, he said that these three films were to be the central trilogy in a 9-part story, a triple trilogy. Lucas said he was inspired by “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, and the double trilogy emerging out of the “Dune” saga. After release of Ep.6, fans were hungry for the story to continue. Lucas took a break from Star Wars to devote more time toward his family, and his young children. Lucas never got around to making more films, and Star Wars novels filled the void. The novels could tell most any story they wanted, but the time frame before the original trilogy was totally off limits. The time frame following the original trilogy could pick up the story several years after Ep.6. These limits were imposed on authors because those time frames would overlap the prequel and sequel stories Lucas had invented to tell his main story, the original trilogy. Remember, this interview was mostly a promotion for Ep.3. So, when Lucas says in the interview that the story of Anakin is “over”, he is speaking from “a certain point of view”. At that time, just like following the release of Ep.6, Lucas is stating that he had no intention of making anymore Star Wars films. Many fans have taken this statement to mean the saga ended with Ep.6. The conclusion should not be drawn that a framework for a sequel story had never been created, [Lucas] even says as much early in the interview. When Lucas announced a prequel trilogy was in the works, he did an extended, hour long interview for the A&E network in the mid-1990s. Lucas describes everything that I have written here regarding a sequel trilogy. Of course the question of a sequel trilogy came up in the A&E interview. Again, Lucas stated that he had no intention of making a sequel trilogy, even though a framework for a sequel story had existed all along. When Disney purchased LucasFilm, there seems to have been a handshake understanding that Disney would make a sequel that followed the outline Lucas had envisioned. Apparently, the sequel story Lucas had envisioned was rejected [as being to abstract], and Disney went in their own direction with a new sequel story.

George Lucas played a cruel joke on us.... I thought he physically couldn’t get any hotter, then he physically burned in lava.
True that he's hot,it's just overwhelmed by the popularity of Ewan MacGregor as obiwan kenobi.

I ain't gay, but...
I ain’t gay but likeeeeee
I still think he's really hot. I was actually thinking it while watching this interview right now.
2:01 Hayden: hi I’m Hayden Theory and me: smiles sheepishly
The ability to think your first does not make you intelligent
and cool
Facts
Ok this is just awesome
"...your first..."
Ironic...he could save others from being unintelligent, but not himself
first
I love how theory smiles like a kid when Hayden and George talk about anything.
15:01 So it's official since 2005 that we do not have to accept Episode 7 - 9 as the Saga finale
sounds about right, they are fan fiction.
Yup. If Lucas wasnt involved then its not Star Wars movie canon.
There are tons of stories to tell about Vader.
8:54
As a kid seeing the Anakin I knew in the originals made me really happy
I hipe we get to see a young Vader in either the obiwan show or something later.
Hope*
Anthony Ernst you can edit comments my man
@@TheTyler701 Thanks, my dude.
Yeah we'll get to see how vader ages
What if Palpatine told Anakin the comedy of darth plageuis the wise instead of the tragedy of darth plageuis the wise
He was so powerful and so wise, he could influence the midichlorians to create laughs.
Maryland Mapper
He was so hilarious that the only thing he was afraid of was losing his laughter, which eventually, of course he did. Fortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew. Then his apprentice laughed at him in his sleep. Ironic. He could give others laughter, but not to himself.
@@jayfeatherthesnarkymedicin8160 jokes aside, the real quote is "which eventually of course, he did."
Maryland Mapper
Ah, thanks for telling me that.
And then they get Dave Chappelle to play as Darth plagueis
"corporate pressure." He said it himself...
7 years before the tragedy
@@max1muslegend772 Have you ever heard of the tragedy of the sequel trilogy?
Entropi I thought not, it’s not the type of movies a self-respecting Star Wars fan would like
George’s explanation for why Hayden was edited into RoTJ is exactly what I was thinking. Glad this interview confirmed it
Yes, but I can't help but think that Anakin did return in Episode VI, when he died, so I don't understand why he isn't older.
He died at the age of 45 years old, the original version looks like he was like 75 years old too old to be a 45 year old
The sequel trilogy goes to show what can happen when the vision of the writers and directors are interfered with by “executives”. Its just a lumpy mess. Like them or not, the prequels were done the way Lucas wanted them. I hope one day the “Abrams cut” of ROS is released like the Snyder JL cut. I would love to see what he had in mind before Kathleen K could f it up. Keep up the good work, best Star Wars related channel on YT.
Wasn't something mentioned about having the Abrhams cut on Disney+? I sware i heard something said about it!
Rather get the George Lucas cut.
Abrams is a rewrite artist, stealing or existing plot threads and twisting them to an evil purpose. He cannot create, only pervert. Star Trek, and now Star Wars...
Y'all hating on the Sequels for no reason and its a damn shame they're actually pretty good
Cmon man.. Abrams is not a creative, he's a nostalgia baiter. As much as I hate Rian for TLJ, I have no problems saying that he's more creative than Abrams is. Abrams is just there to sell you bs and a flashy light show while hoping that nostalgia will be enough to ensure you don't think about anything too deeply.
Anakin not making appearance in The Rise of Skywalker is ______________.
There are no words.
Outrageous and unfair.
Cruel
Hey but at least we got to hear him speak the first time heard him in the rise of Skywalker I smiled geeked out in theaters and said that's awesome out loud the entire time while I was watching I kept saying to myself I hope Anakin shows up than he didn't show up so I kinda gave up until I heard him speaking I said finally that is all I wanted is for Anakin to come back in some sort of way but I'm still disappointed that we didn't see him as force gost but at the same time happy that I got to hear not Vader but Anakin Skywalker speak
@@nathanskywalker1536 Silver linings right? It was better than no Anakin but I couldn't help but feel like they were tacking him onto the end to claim that it was still Anakin's story.
George: "You still have to write the backstory, the exposition, to know where you're going"
Kathleen Kennedy, JJ Abrams, and Rian Johnson: "How do I learn this power?"
Somebody should of made George ask if Hayden likes sand
I would've lived to see that
Came here to find the interview so i can listen to it myself.
Thankyou for including the link in the description :)
It would be cool if in your fan film you could show what Vader did with Ashokas saber
That would actually be so mind blowing holy shit.
But his film takes place 8 months after revenge of the sith. Vader finds ahsokas lightsaber years later.
iam FLAME! Yeah and we don’t know when the last scene of TCW takes place
Cohen Paradis we see in the Vader Fan film that their are still clone troopers serving the empire, so at that point in time Vader *did not* find Ahsoka’s lightsaber.
He probably added it to his collection
I love watching these two talk
I grew up with the prequels and still think that they are really good, much better than disney haha
Not as better as the originals
Mr. Dark cap
Prequels and originals are both great in my eyes 🔥🔥🔥
i think the prequels are better than the originals
The original trilogy and the prequel are all 1 fantastic storyline that shows you all the beauty you need to see about Star Wars. The sequel trilogy however will remain undiscussed
I didnt know how much I needed this until today. That part about Yoda blew my mind 🙏🏽
Two absolute legends! Miss them both
I love this interview 🙌 ❤ seen it a few years ago, love hearing the creative process. Thanks for reposting.
George Lucas Is honestly amazing. So is Hayden.
watching this again makes me really want Hayden back for the obi wan series, I think about him coming back on the daily, he’s said so many times that if he ever got the call he’d come back in a heartbeat, what do we all have to do to bring him back
Well rejoice!
Apparently, the sequel story Lucas had envisioned was rejected [as being to abstract], and Disney went in their own direction with a new sequel story.
... and failed.
I respect Hayden for his interest in the story and understanding of the atmosphere. Surprised me for sure
you heard it here. George said the saga ends with Anakin.
George: the saga starts with Anikan as a kid and ends with his death
Disney: well actually no
George is really smart. People weren't understanding his character so he made 3 new movies to help them. I think TCW does a really good job showing how he's a tragic character
I’ve never seen this interview, its great!
I wish I lived in the universe where George Lucas still owned Star Wars.
Hayden is such a class act. Kind, outgoing, happy, his attitude is so contagious. Had me smiling whenever he smiled. He did not deserve the hate he got and still gets nor do the rest of the cast. The saga 1-6 were works of art 🤝👌
you’re like anthony fantano, but star wars
Except Fantano doesn't know what the hell he's talking about most of the time and makes videos for views.
Really great interview and video! Confused me though that you decided to get Bashar Al-Assad on as a guest speaker to comment on this, but good on you anyhow!
Theory reminding us that he covered Starkiller made me remember when my social studies teacher would remind my class of a lesson he taught us before a quiz
I live about a half hour away from Minneapolis, it's really nice to know that our Canadian neighbors are with us! And of course, an amazing video as always, thanks Theory
Hayden knew about and even interested about the clone wars series at this time. I wonder if he know about his padawan Ahsoka and what’s his thoughts about her. Funny fact, he’s actually good friends with Rosario Dawson lol.
Hayden's hair here basically is what clone wars Anakin would look like in live action
Yoda: God, What is the meaning of life?
George Lucas: You exist so I could kill of an Alec Guinness.
Theory, thank you so much for all of your hard work and such entertaining stuff! Always uplifting to watch your videos. Helps me a lot to keep it together during the pandemic.
Star Wars theory: posts a new vid
Everyone: rushes to comments
Wow that takes me back. I grew up on both the original trilogy and the prequel trilogy.
What if the Clone Wars was animated by Bioware?
Bioware doesn't animate shit. Trailers you saw animated by blur
I love to see the two of them chin-wagging. George, talking about filmmaking itself so hypnotic.
I love Hayden, too, I always have, and I am so glad that finally people have come to start appreciating his performance as Anakin. (Anyone else love his role in Jumper?).
These two obviously have a great fondness for each other. I wish George would come back for one final film, at least, working alongside all the prequel cast in some capacity.
First came the return of Toby as Spider-Man, now Christen as Anakin, who’s next?
Where does tobey return?
Hans Peter it’s either theorised or confirmed that he’ll be Spider-Man in dr strange 2
@@catandogclone7880 Lol. Next they'll reinstate George Clooney as Batman.

Michael Keaton as Batman is confirmed! 😅
Man, I was so in love with Hayden back in the day. He was plastered all over my room and locker. I'm still so angry that they didn't include him in the sequels
When you watch this you forget that he was the man that killed all the younglings
I love this guy, he always thinks about everything going on around him, provides links to charities, how could you not like him. I wish one day I could meet him 🖤
Why did George Lucas sell to Disney?? Oh, well. I still love you, George.
Just watched this like 2 weeks ago, never seen it before. Great interview, would love to see a zoom call with the cast like LotR just did.
When did this interview take place?
2004-2005
Massive respect to you! Saying not to donate to super chat n to donate to charities n all that! More people should be like you!
Starting to feel like lucus cast Hayden just cos he likes him and thinks he’s cool lol
Thank you for the message at the beginning
George is the definition of a baller.
Such a good intro by you man. Keep up the good work.
Imagine if they made a “Vader” video game. You play as Anakin/Vader through the original 6 films.
Damn
That would be nice.
Most intreresting times would be between episode 1and episode 2 and episode 3 and 4
such a cool Interview!!! I remember watching it a few years ago. So much nostalgia!!
Oh boy, disney ruined so much...
thank you for trying to support the family. love from minnesota
