Sweet video Johnathan! This is exactly what I'm currently working on in my life because like you said I realized I HAVE to ski ever day that I possibly can. This year I got myself a job where I'm a 100% remote IT specialist. My next big step is selling my house and getting an RV to live in but that's about a year away.
Most people will move to a mountain town long enough to figure out it's totally unsustainable lifestyle unless you're on two incomes and have a decent landlord/living situation. I saw so many people give up after just 1 season because it destroys them mentally.
thats why we work all summer and live at home to save money. It works great for me because I don't mind the crazy mentality it takes to work/party/snowboard 4 months straight. I'm excited to go back this year
@@tl7338 shit bro i did it when i was 18, and im 19 now going back this winter. i feel like most of his audience is 18 and under so most of them hopefully do have a place to go back to. im gonna have to give up the bum life eventually but it works for alot of people i met in colorado
Excellent Tips. As an instructor, one day you will work a ton and other days you may have a lot of time to ride between lineups. If someone wants to work a lot of hours as an instructor then you must volunteer for all the multiweek lessons/camps that you can to guarantee $$$$. Tips can be great but never expect one.
I didn't realize that tipping instructors was a thing....now I feel terrible for not tipping ours last december. She was excellent with my wife and son who had never skied before....damn....
@@JohnnyUtah13 You can tip but you don't have to. Don't feel bad. Most instructors get minimum wage unless they have years of experience and/or certifications. Also, at our mountain if you request an instructor then they get double pay for the same cost to you. (only private and semiprivate lessons). Ride On!
Find a good seasonal job for the warm months. Make sure you make yourself a valuable employee so you earn decent pay and can go back year after year. Live frugally all year. Have the winter off and ski all you want. Has worked for me for 25+ years!
I know this is an old video but do you think moving to Utah is a more viable option than Colorado? Was looking at rent prices and it's all wicked expensive even in Leadville. Ogden - access to all the salt lake mountains. I love Colorado but seeing they have a housing lottery in summit county I was like oh man.
yall will probably hate me for this comment but what about getting a house or condo and supplementing the house payment by renting it out through airbnb or something
Great video, I recently worked at a ski resort at my home mountain, but what would your advise be on someone who wants to work for a different mountain in a different state for the season to ultimately decide if they wanna move out there after school etc..
I am extremely sensitive to dog barks to the point that it is seriously impacting my quality of life. It is seemingly impossible to escape this sound in the western world. I have no interest in snow sports but might I find a sanctuary there?
1. Leave very early if you’re going for a POW day 2. Have good tires 3. Have chains, and don’t be scared to put them on 4. At the end of the day, being there ten to thirty minutes late is much better than getting in a wreck. So drive like that
Also that being said, I’d say 4/5 people don’t have chains and as long as their car is somewhat snow capable they get through fine. Just be ready to go 35 the entire way up when it’s really bad. That only happens 1/5 times or so though, normally they take decent precautions in terms of clearing the road
@@Sawtorn2 it honestly depends. Forecasts are really accurate most of the time so if you see really bad conditions maybe? I’m on the opposite side of you in Fort Collins so I’m not exactly sure to be honest
Big question. How about for people that aren’t looking for entry level jobs. What’s out there?. At least for me, ive been in the hospitality industry, had managed restaurants from mom n pops, to sports bars, to lounges and multiple F&B outlets for resorts.
if ur not going to college go into construction or an electrician those rich ppl need them to build their vacation homes. If you are going to college work at the resort establish residency then go to school
@@KingKunta. It's a tradeoff. You either vacation now and make a little with an ok job or put in the hard work and vacation later with a ton of money and a good degree.
@@CloroxBleach-hi6jd that’s true most people don’t have the commitment to establish residency then go to college out there but looking back now I believe I could have and should have done it especially with COVID I’m in my senior year and my college experience was robbed from me because I chose to go the safe route sometimes ya gotta take risks
Hey man, I'm moving to Breck to work tickets or lifts with two buddies this coming season. I'm a skier, with enough experience to consider myself intermediate. Only thing is, I am from Kentucky where skiing is scarce so Its never been worth it to buy my own gear. Do you think I should try to get some gear together, (skis, boots, poles) before I get out there? Or should I wait until Im there to purchase from shops and ski swaps. Any advice would be much appreciated and keep up the great content! Much love from the mid west
Congrats bro! Your going to love breck, that’s where I started. I would start looking into gear and getting an idea of what you want. Once you know look now but don’t buy junk. Investing money into good gear is never bad!
When I was 18 in 1990 I took a greyhound bus from New Jersey to Montrose Colorado and took a cab to Telluride with a friend . It was still summer and we were camping in the town campground while looking for an apartment. People were really hesitant to rent to 2 young kids with no job yet. My friend wound up having mental health issues and I couldn't take him any longer so I went back home. He wound up getting a job with the mountain and lived there for years. I really wish I stuck it out. I am 48 now and have a family so moving is out of the question. Maybe when I retire 🙏

Pretty accurate.
Id add that the bus system is awesome and you dont need a car to live in summit county.
