What Carlos Just Did At Wimbledon Was Truly Ridiculous...

  • I break down Carlos Alcaraz's incredible 2024 Wimbledon title defense. I analyze his matches from the tricky first round against Mark Lajal to his straight-sets victory over Novak Djokovic in the final. We'll explore fascinating new stats like "In Attack" and "Shot Quality" that Wimbledon introduced this year, and discuss how Alcaraz's performance compares to his 2023 run. How do you think this second Wimbledon title will impact Carlitos' quest to regain the world number one ranking? And what does his dominant win over Djokovic tell us about the changing of the guard in men's tennis?

    I stopped watching tennis back in 1995. I wish I hadn’t. Anyway, 3 years ago I decided to give it another try. It was during Indian Wells, and Carlitos was around 20 in the world. Firstly, thank you for this content, specially for the great wimbledon recap on the first half of the video.
    I respectfully disagree with the analysis on the second half of the video. I believe there is an easier storyline that explains Carlos's dominance in the finals, without so much "stats picking": Djoko net strategy didn't work out, and while he insisted on that strategy for almost 2 whole sets, Carlos developed a huge lead. After Djoko adapted, Carlos was already winning by a large margin, had momentum, and more physicality - but the 3rd set was disputed nonetheless. Djoko had a bad knee and a defeating strategy (that he insisted on for too long). Carlos was whole and effective. All the stats you showed are not causes, but consequences of this scenario. That is only my opinion anyway, so take it with a considerable grain of salt! Thanks and have all a great day!

    As a fan of Carlitos and the new gen in general, I still think that the biggest reason for the Wimbledon result being what it was was Novak’s lack of playing ability. In the first two sets we saw absolutely zero body language and motivation- he just looked oddly flat and subdued. The third was slightly better and we saw glimpses of what could have been from Novak- at this point though, alcaraz was on a run and was locked in. If Novak wanted to win the match he needed to get into the zone MUCH earlier to catch alcaraz cold. Also, his knee made it so that his movement was hindered and he had to play a hyper aggressive style, going for unconvincing net approaches and risky redirection- in the end, this made it easy pickings for alcarz’s defence and athleticism.

    • @joser1853
      @joser1853 2 месяца назад

      Also, Novak had an easy as hell draw. He shouldn't even had gotten to the finals. Put someone like Med or Sinner on the semis and he wouldn't have made it.

    • @azsl31
      @azsl31 2 месяца назад +2

      Alcaraz has always been the outlier in this stat. The reason is that his shot making ability is good he doesn’t need to sustain an attack since he can usually get it done with just one or two shots. Add to that that his defense is so good that his opponents stay on attack longer since they will often struggle to finish the point.

    Please let us not deep dive into servebots, unless it is to demolish their idiotic approach (serve really hard and hope the ball never comes back because they never trained any of the other shots). I have watched tennis for 35 years and on my second day I was convinced clay is the only surface that matters, because it nullifies those guys and actual tennis can be seen.

    Old 37 years Novak with injury ? What special about that
    Mentally blocked Novak being now underdog because of last years loss

    Novak Djokovic didn't play at his level.

      @jonarbuckle8003 2 месяца назад

      he's getting old. if he goes up against Alcaraz or Sinner, those two will beat him consistently from now on. you can't beat Father Time, and Novak has done better than most in this regard. but it's pretty apparent now that Alcaraz and Sinner are better than him.

      His top level is nowhere close to Alcaraz top level, it's that simple. If Alcaraz plays at highest level, the match will always be on his racquet, unless he makes a lot of UEs, which will happen often because of his aggressive game style, unlike Novaks bore me to death high percentage crap... 😂😂
