  • Earlier this year I bought my first 32-bit recorder - SOUND DEVICES MIXPRE-6 II. I thought I'll tell you why I chose this specific piece of equipment. This little guy is really filled with pro audio features like analog limiters, internal timecode generator, high quality preamps and more.

I recommend not to use a normal size USB drive but mini USB drives like "Verbatim Nano", "Intenso Slim Line" or "SanDisk Ultra Fit" and keep it permanently plugged in. So there is no need for a second SD-Card slot if you go this way.

Amazing video! I am very close to buying a mixpre-6 but having rented it before I can agree the single SD card slot makes me very nervous.. Also I wish it had at least 2 more xlr inputs but I don't think I want to drop 2k+ on a mixpre-10.

That is why I always have my usb stick to copy files during breaks. I think there should be another option, something like Mixpre-8, for guys like us, because I also sometimes miss another xlr.

You should definitely get sponsored by Sound Devices (or any sound company) because your video was so good

Nice vid, one thing to note, It shouldn't seem like the batteries are bulging the sled out, if that happens then the batteries you are using are most likely not in exact spec, as SD made the tolerances a tad more exact then most and not all follow this perfectly so batteries can be slightly dif in size, thus causing the sled to not fit correctly. I personally don't even use the sled as I never get much time out of it so i use a compact power bank, as you know MixPre eats batteries for lunch. so for example batteries that fit are the Panasonic Eneloop batteries which are 14mm they should fit fine but others that are a hair larger then 14mm will most likely not fit correctly. Try diff batteries SD has info on this as well. One cool thing is that if you use batteries in the sled and you power the unit with an external bank when the bank runs out it will switch to the sled and allow a hot swap of a new charged bank on the fly with no interruption try that test if you have not it should work.

Thank for your comment, I am aware of the size difference in batteries. I just probably want to have more universal sled in terms of fitting any type of batteries, rechargeable and disposable, that's all. Anyway :) I don't use the sled too, I have two powerbank to fuel my recorder :)

@@cactuzzsound Welcome disposables like alkaline are not really a possibility with a MixPre as it’s power requirements are very high so you would be lucky to get maybe 20 min with the stock sled and disposable batteries. Power bank is def the best low cost option. I think I got 15min with two NT5 mics using alkaline as a test.
