WOW!!! Prescient! 😬🤔🙃🤭😊🌟💛💫🎢👏🌌.. Hauntingly beautiful. Sadly 😔 future-fortelling. Great choice of song, Amanda... Let's join forces in our own way- to uplift energy and help improve our planet ?👍🌄
I'm here for this in 2024.. I loved this song back in 1991 when I was 13 years old.. still love it now 33 years later ❤ Technology has advanced, but the world has gotten more ravaged as our population has grown.. And yes humankind still thinks it's clever.. yet there is still so much suffering going on.. for our species and so many others. And no.. the irony is not lost on me as I'm sitting here typing this on my smartphone enjoying the spoils of modern society.
I remember I first learned it in kindergarten when I lived in Canberra, my school had this awesome casual "music teacher" who would come in with his guitar and get all us kids to sing along to this and "Bright Eyes" by Art Garfunkel... he seemed to _really_ love those two songs, haha. For years I had no idea who it was by, but the lyrics remained in my head due to my passion for environmental conservation (fostered by this song, Midnight Oil and the music video for Pearl Jam's "Do the Evolution")... it wasn't until 2 years ago, 2½ decades later, that I discovered the actual song. Julian Lennon really deserved more recognition, he wasn't just some nepotism baby coasting through life.
You're so right. This song and Julian as an artist are both unfairly underrated. What he sings about then, the video of people in masks....that's now. A man so ahead of his time, his dad's son through and through
I am not a fan of "children of the stars" attempting to emulate their parents but this guy nails this. It is both a throw back and ahead of its time and I think they should re-release it. Great song beautifully sung.
That's the thing about Julian- he was/is NOT trying to emulate his father.. Julian has SO many talents - not just music, although he is a VERY talented musician.. ❤ For starters- check out his photography! He's DEFINITELY got a talented eye for it.. And, never forget The White Feather Foundation!❤❤

Yeah I just heard my other half playing this in the other room and went through to listen in a wave of nostalgia, remembering it from school when i was a similar age. He said "yeah it came out 30 years ago" and I told him he was lying. No way it was 30 years, I refuse to believe it. *cries in old*
I've been saying it for the last few years. I always remember my mother saying to me don't wish your life away, time goes quick as you get older. I used to laugh at her, but do you know what? She was right. I also think that when you was younger, you had more to look forward to, birthdays and Christmas used to feel like it was a million miles away. Now I don't look forward to that much, it's here every five minutes, scary stuff... 🙂👍

What father would be disappointed that his son followed in his footsteps? Emulating a parent is the most natural thing in the world. Most parents would be overjoyed. If John Lennon was an Iron Worker and Julian became one too, he'd get a pat on the back and his father would be proud. "Chip off the old block." Great song!
This one of the best songs of the 90's. I'm so sick of the press constantly trying to compare him to John and The Beatles. In one interview he said: "I got people telling me that I shouldn't use cellos in my songs because The Beatles used cellos. Like, what's wrong with these people?!" Now he is a very talented photographer and content with his life. Good on him. I'm sure that Cynthia and John would be so proud of him if they were still alive today.

Enchanting, soothing voice of Julian Lennon. This Dude life is extremely the opposite from his Father. He exudes calm and serene personality totally rare amongst entertainers.
Intro sounds like they found the "Strawberry Fields" setting! Seriously though: Julian really IS a great artist in his own right, and by all accounts a really decent man.
George was asked by Julian to do the guitar part. George was committed to something else at the time, but he did write the guitar solo as "this is what I'd do in the song," and so you do hear Georg in it because the guitarist played what George indicated.
For Christ's sake, stop comparing him with his old man. No wonder he went to photography. This is a brilliant song and would be equal to, if not better than, the best singer/writers of any generation. Sadly for the world, his message is just as relevant today as when written 25 years ago. Saltwater wells in my eyes at the sheer artistry of this piece as well as the way the world is currently heading.
Chuck. Love the song, the song is beautiful. I may well be an ignorant prick but to tell others, me included to stop comparing is dumb, as I stated, "People compare, it is human".
I so remember this song. My first child (a son) was born in Scotland in October 1991 and this was in the charts, and I remember thinking back then how much I wanted his world to be a cleaner, safer, and better place for him to grow up in. He's now 31 (32 in a few months), and we're in far worst shape than we have ever been. I now live in America and climate change (like most things) has been politicized. We are so damned. Time to re-release this record, dear Julian. You always were ahead of your time. xo
Julian is such a talented singer and songwriter. Love his work I’m glad he is coming out with a new album. He makes the world a better place to be in with the important environmental causes he is involved in. Love Julian Lennon from Australia ❤
How could anyone put thumbs down on this beautiful and mean full song , about life and our beautiful planet Earth , that is the only home we know , and we all must try, to look after it .
Bought this album back in 1991 when it was released. I still have no idea why this song wasn’t a bigger hit, and why the album didn’t do better. This song and album are masterpieces!
Lyrics: We are a rock revolving Around a golden sun We are a billion children Rolled into one So when I hear about The hole in the sky Saltwater wells in my eyes We climb the highest mountain We'll make the desert bloom We're so ingenious We can walk on the moon But when I hear of how The forests have died Saltwater wells in my eyes I have lived for love But now that's not enough For the world I love is dying (And now I'm crying) And time is not a friend (No friend of mine) As friends we're out of time And it's slowly passing by Right before our eyes We light the deepest ocean Send photographs of Mars We're so enchanted by How clever we are Why should one baby Feel so hungry she cries Saltwater wells in my eyes I have lived for love But now that's not enough For the world I love is dying (And now I'm crying) And time is not a friend (No friend of mine) As friends we're out of time And it's slowly passing by Right before our eyes We are a rock revolving Around a golden sun We are a billion children Rolled into one What will I think of me The day that I die Saltwater wells in my eyes Saltwater wells in my eyes
Maybe he’s just singing the song. He sure didn’t get any love from his father. Now if it was Sean and Yoko scream singing the song -- John would be proud. John’s love and care for Sean and how he treated Julian was a mental mind ef to Julian.
Was just listening to Julian's new album Jude and was reminded of Saltwater. What a brilliant, hauntingly beautiful and honest song, now I can't stop singing it. And he did this in the early 90s, what a visionary, way ahead of his time!
Such a talent, lost to the World. Beautiful voice. No doubt he's his father's son, but, his name is Julian Not John. This song, way ahead of its time. C,Mon Julian, stand up & be proud. You are an amazing songwriter & singer.
There are very few people on earth that can be described as being truly "Angelic".....but Julian is one of them, a thoroughly beautiful and talent human being!
Congratulations!! It is the 25th anniversary of "Saltwater" It stands the test of time in its message. Julian's altruistic spirit is threaded through the lines; lyrics that hold personal meaning to him. Since the loss of his dear mother, Cynthia Lennon, I feel he has been channeling his profound grief into his passion for Photography, as seen on his website. Definitely! to be recognized for his Own talent & efforts.
Julian I'm sorry that you are constantly in your fathers shadow. but I want you to know that you have cast your own light on many of us who grew up with you. I enjoy your music and "Saltwater" is my favorite. 28 years on and I still cry. we haven't learned a damn thing and our children will be cleaning it up.
I heard his earlier stuff in the 80's but this is the first time hearing this but its an instant hit in my book. I never understood why he wasn't more popular every song I've heard by him so far is great
"We light the deepest ocean Send photographs of Mars We're so enchanted by how clever we are" Perhaps the most devastatingly accurate lyric ever written.
This is a beautiful song......Why do people have to say cruel things about "anyone's" music? So what you don't care for it, if so go find some other music you like. Does no one think the artists never scroll through their comments and see these rude remarks? I would be very hurt! Everyone does their best at what they love. Also Julian is NOT John, yes he does songs in the style of his father. It's not because he CAN'T do anything else, it's because he chooses to. He looks up to his father's work and his talent comes from him. He is a wonderful artist in his own right. People are so cruel. Don't listen to the moronic people in the world Julian, you are wonderful and bring happiness to many people! Much love to you!!!!
Cruel, huh?! Hardly as cruel as the losers of today-thanks to the internet and nonstop celeb culture that allow these piss-poor excuses for "pop stars" and human beings the shove their hateful crap down all our throats, eyes and ears-in ever mag, ad, poster, billboard, screen and so on, they're all the same and you can't escape them-nothing like it was in the 80s. I don't think any of those arrogant twats would deign to soak up anything but a mountain of artificial praise for their dubious abilities. You are way too sensitive. You a publicist for one of them by any chance. I can't really see them all chucking themselves of the roofs of their 50 room mansions in mass formation. Which do you think they'd chose? The Primrose Hill one, Hollywood Hills one, San Fernando Valley one, French Riviera one? So many to pick, hey, they might even have a heart attack doing it. Yeah, cos they're REALLY going to break down with all their bodyguard louts and insulating millions when they see that several people are brave enough to call out their crap for being just that. Oh, no, Adele, someone might like every howling, shrieking, boring, pointless banal word you kill? Don't eat yourself. Oh no, Pariah Carey, we know you're a skank with as much musical talent as the Splice Girls you vile Bev Hills Barbie-and now you're going to die in a routine liposuction to make your surgically stuck ego-grin even larger than it already is. Oh no, Oasis and Timberlake, don't chuck yourself under a lorry. I didn't give your bullshit records and crimes to music the usual glowing suck-up tat the rest of the world does. Oh woe is me, I've killed all the bullshit pop stars. Yayyyyyyy! The world is full of talent and people that can sing and make decent records once more and not exiiting merely to piss us off and amass untold undeserved wealth for no other reason than to lord it over everybody. Yeah right...word to the wise. RUclips doesn't exist to any loser with tonnes of money unless it has silly kittens or babies bouncing about in a video, or they've already used to earn their fake place among the supreme and sad. That's what twitter is for these days and try getting the bastard of that, when they're not floating their grotesque forms and houses on Instagram and reminding us all why they're so hateful in the first place. The 80s was never like this (though we had the vile Madonna of course-the prelude to today's love-me shit). That's the evil of the internet for sure.
Krystal Mansour Your quite correct in that its a beautiful song stating how amazing we are in all our achievements, then how short sighted we are at the same time. The shame is its preaching to the converted, if you care you always have and will, if not your the Short sighted ones destroying the world with no time to listen to the song or anyone else.
Spot on. Good to finally see somebody on the internet who's not a fucking sheep and thinks for themselves for once, unlike every other sheep on the internet who believes everything and questions nothing. They are part of the problem. I go the opposite way, I believe nothing and I question everything.
Brownalebelly - Me thinks... The gift of life... was given to me, so I could EXPOSE evil on Earth ! and, that will be the death of me. Evil people love killing whistle-blowers.
Brownalebelly - I am the same! I love the way the lush harmonies drop away to just one intimate voice on those words for maximum impact too. Actually I have never been able to sing along to this song without getting that lump-in-your-throat feeling. In a good way - love it! Peace ✌
Sadly when Julian Lennon dies (I am 63 so I don’t want to still be here he’s only 58) the first line will I start with “son of John Lennon” when most of us way down the page is your parent’s names. Which is likely to happen to all the Beatles children with the possible exception of Stella McCartney- they will say “Fashion Designer” . Kinda sad to be eclipsed your whole life.
My life was falling apart, literally, in '91, I never heard this! Nor did I see the video. Hearing this now.. I am in tears. Is it possible Julian is THIS CLOSE to what we NEED TODAY!!?? Every day I wonder HOW close to the actual end we are, each of us and collectively, to the end?!? How is it possible that nobody saw and heard this when it was first out?! So many things conspired to keep me away from this song and many other things which have only been revealed to me in the past 30 years. Shame on whomever caused Julian to stop his wonderous gift of being able to read his surroundings to such a depth. This song - which I must hear again - has the magic to open ALL OF OUR EYES & MINDS; pull us together to either put an end to the bullshit, on the tellies and in the lies in governments all over the world now, or to prepare our young to finally take the reigns with the TRUTH and GOD to lead them. Is ANYONE ON THIS PAGE with me? Make Christmas the very best you can and 2022 the year of great and profound resolutions. He's also got the face of a dreamer and a poet. How did this escape me, and how many others?, along with everything else? Tommy, no deeper love, you must know this Sweetheart. 🥺🙏
Yes, the obvious reaction will be " He is so much like his father". And ofcourse, he looks a bit like his father (not that strange ofcourse), his voice and way of singing sounds like John, and then also the music has great influences of his fathers work. But, I think we should not forget this is Julian, and this is HIS work, and it seems like people do overlook that fact. He deserves more appriciation for that fact and his talent, instead of only the comparison to his dad. Julian is a brilliant songwriter himself !
Julian is John's little surprise on the world. John loved surprising people. The BEST surprises come when least expected and of course, they become a memory. Julian was a shining star, now sort of retired. But we REMEMBER him forever. Just like his dad.
Hi Nick - me too, almost like self-examination in looking back on one’s life! It is also quite sobering to see, back in 1991, images of people walking around in masks decades before we ever heard of the pandemic and the havoc it has wreaked on people worldwide.

I thought the same... Besides John, I also "hear a bit of" Harrison, Queen, and ELO, here...
Merseyrock Yes! Definetly Queen and that slide sounds like Harrison
George was asked by Julian to do the guitar part. George was committed to something else at the time, but he did write the guitar solo as "this is what I'd do in the song," and so you do hear Georg in it because the guitarist played what George indicated.
Jennifer Donahue Yes George was comforting Clapton because his son died at that time
Justin Tyme Productions he didnt fácil he had a couple hits and then retired.
An intro like Strawberry Fields Forever, a voice like John's and a beautiful song by Julian!
Very apt Magda...thanks for the great analysis!!
what tha
Don't forget the slide guitar solo that sounds like George!
@Magda: Are you aware of how much Julian detests being compared to his father ?

Today this lil fella is 56 years young. Awe! Happy Birthday Julian Lennon. ✌️❤️
I really dislike it when folks such as yourself tell others how to think and what or what not to say. People compare, it is human.
Well said Steve Rambo. James Dunn sounds like an ignorant prick who can't see the message in this beautiful song.
Chuck. Love the song, the song is beautiful. I may well be an ignorant prick but to tell others, me included to stop comparing is dumb, as I stated, "People compare, it is human".
I'm sorry if I misunderstood you James. No hard feelings.
Chuck. No hard feelings. Thank you.
He sounds just like his father it's hunting and beautiful at the same time God bless you Julian you're a miracle❤
he absolutely does not

Sounds more like George on this one. Early records, he sounds like his father
@@lynnhubbard844disagree. He sounds alot like his father. Bound to .
You always were ahead of your time. xo
His father would be so proud of him and this song
I think this is way overboard in a commercial sense! I think John Lennon would be a bit embarrassed!
Katie De Luise Brilliant masterpiece. I agree the people thumbing down are complete turds!
Not everyone understands great music
Not everyone agrees with you?
They won't even allow dislikes now. Totalitarian nightmare.
There could be a video on how to cure cancer and it would still get a thumbs down
Incredibly relevant song in today's times. A masterpiece! Thank you Julian!
You are the best Julian Lennon ❤❤ yesterday, today and forever ... The One.
Bought this album back in 1991 when it was released. I still have no idea why this song wasn’t a bigger hit, and why the album didn’t do better. This song and album are masterpieces!
Back then you still had to go into Sam goody or H&H Music and even his fans were not going to be seen buying his music in public
Beautiful song. Julian is so talented.
30 years later and this song still makes me cry💙
It's a really emotional song x
What an incredible gift this young man is! His mother raised a gentleman and a scholar of our woeld!
A great song. On the level of his father's work.
"What will I think of me the day that I die?" Get's me every time.
His father would be so proud
Great musician in his own right. Great song. Love Julian Lennon.
The music has a beautiful Beatles vibe. That with his voice so much like his dad is just a gift to any fan of John's. Thankyou Julian.
Lyrics:
We are a rock revolving
Around a golden sun
We are a billion children
Rolled into one
So when I hear about
The hole in the sky
Saltwater wells in my eyes
We climb the highest mountain We'll make the desert bloom
We're so ingenious
We can walk on the moon
But when I hear of how
The forests have died
Saltwater wells in my eyes
I have lived for love
But now that's not enough
For the world I love is dying (And now I'm crying)
And time is not a friend (No friend of mine)
As friends we're out of time
And it's slowly passing by
Right before our eyes
We light the deepest ocean
Send photographs of Mars
We're so enchanted by
How clever we are
Why should one baby
Feel so hungry she cries
Saltwater wells in my eyes
I have lived for love
But now that's not enough
For the world I love is dying (And now I'm crying)
And time is not a friend (No friend of mine)
As friends we're out of time
And it's slowly passing by
Right before our eyes We are a rock revolving
Around a golden sun
We are a billion children
Rolled into one
What will I think of me
The day that I die
Saltwater wells in my eyes Saltwater wells in my eyes
This beautiful song is surely the greatest show of love that Julian has ever bestowed upon his father. What a lovely tribute and song.
Maybe he’s just singing the song. He sure didn’t get any love from his father. Now if it was Sean and Yoko scream singing the song -- John would be proud. John’s love and care for Sean and how he treated Julian was a mental mind ef to Julian.
Julian Lennon ,
You're Dearly Loved.

Was just listening to Julian's new album Jude and was reminded of Saltwater. What a brilliant, hauntingly beautiful and honest song, now I can't stop singing it. And he did this in the early 90s, what a visionary, way ahead of his time!
I just listened to Jude for the first time today - it's a masterpiece. Julian is very underrated
Listening in 2021. Julian is so talented💙

Is Julian a Prophet
Happy Easter
It's now 23 of aug uhh it's 2024
This song was so big in Australia when it came out. Oh, it takes me back to high school 😊.
Susan Heney such an amazing song
A lesson for us all.
Julian is a wordsmith.
Yes very special Julian thanks for sharing.
Absolutely beautiful precious and warm special god bless you Julian x ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Nice sentiments Lisa. Tony in Portsmouth.
Omg. Touching my heart. Nobody does it better and I have to say that this is in a music class of its ‘OWN’. When will we all wake up?
Julian I'm sorry that you are constantly in your fathers shadow. but I want you to know that you have cast your own light on many of us who grew up with you. I enjoy your music and "Saltwater" is my favorite. 28 years on and I still cry. we haven't learned a damn thing and our children will be cleaning it up.
I heard his earlier stuff in the 80's but this is the first time hearing this but its an instant hit in my book. I never understood why he wasn't more popular every song I've heard by him so far is great
"We light the deepest ocean
Send photographs of Mars
We're so enchanted by how clever we are"
Perhaps the most devastatingly accurate lyric ever written.
I love this song and Julian 💗
This is one of the best pop songs ever written. Great job, Julian.
I love the line "What will I think of me the day that I die?" This is really worth thinking about.... for a lifetime.
Indeed……..
Wow. Never heard this before. Put this song out now and see what happens! it is brilliant.
The Children aged 7 and 8 at my Sons school recently sang this to the parents, pretty much had everyone in tears, such a well written song.
I agree with you. He inherited his Father's looks, voice and talent. What he does with them is his own.
Julian's tribute.
"I have lived for love, but now that's not enough, for the world I love is dying, and now I'm crying."
You are bright soul Julian...please always be yourself.💖💖💖💖
"What will I think of me the day that I die?" Get's me every time.
Yeah I hear you ❤ very powerful emotional words, I always cry at this song now when I hear it.. zx
Haunting and beautiful! Julian Lennon is very talented!!
Julian was ahead of his time. We need his music now, more than ever! (2023) God bless this brilliant musician & God bless all.
Absolutely amazing song. So happy that I’ve discovered him before it was too late.
the end is not yet
Brilliant song - the Apple does not fall far from the tree. John would be proud of Julian and this great song.
Hugely special and important message in this song and his father would surely be proud. Great talent.
His father didn’t give a $ht about him or don’t you remember ?
I sent this song to my sister-in-law. She had never heard it. She said it made her cry. She loved it. She’s a Freddie Mercury fan.
Beutiful song. Beutiful voice. Timeless message that seems more important everyday..
Beautiful song with such a great message. Happy birthday, Julian :)
Diane O how about some more music julian
"What will i think of me, the day that i die?" This line always gets to me!😢
Hi Nick - me too, almost like self-examination in looking back on one’s life! It is also quite sobering to see, back in 1991, images of people walking around in masks decades before we ever heard of the pandemic and the havoc it has wreaked on people worldwide.
@@davebloombeat Hi Dave! What a pleasant surprise to see you here. Yes, this video did indeed look like a portent of things to come! Hope all is well my friend.
John Lennon is crying tears of joy and pride! What a talent Julian is!
Julian, I love you, your music, you're a carbon copy of your Dad. Your tunes hit my heart Brother.
I could listen to this remarkable song again and again. So beautiful.
I was 12 when I heard this song in the radio in 1991. 33 years later, it still sends shivers.
Just as if John were back...Julian has been given a gift from his dad. Please don't stop making music sweetheart.
I Agree. 😀 Julian is A Precious, Talented Soul.
God Bless
Julian, I had always loved this song when i was young, but back then i didn't know any English. So many years had passed and now watching this video while the pandemic keeps going, hearing your voice, "understanding" the message of this song makes me feel goose bumps, not only because evoke a sweet memory but also for the way how you expressed a sad reality of humanity today. Your song really touched my heart, and made saltwater well in my eyes 😢
I just heard this song for the first time about six months ago in 2024. I could not believe this beautiful song was so old and I had never heard it before. What a meaningful message conveyed in such a sensitive and beautiful way. I love it!
A lot of salt water has welled in my eyes with the way life is for everyone at the moment. Stay safe everyone. xxxx

Yep straight after hearing “now and then” i listened to this one. Secretly i wish this was the unreleased Beatles song as it is so powerful and honest about so much
I love his voice..I love his song..beautiful!♥️♥️♥️
I loved this song when it was released in 1991, got a lot of play on MTV, a very creative period for Julian Lennon.

Seeing this video again in 2021, chills! Especially with the face masks, it should be rereleased, the world is ready to listen now
That was so weird bout the masks in the vid n how things are today
Listening to what? I didn't wear one face nappy! And neither will I be.
Yeah that was creepy
