- The TLX is getting some changes for 2024 from Acura. This TLX Technology is now the entry level trim. On the outside you will discover a refreshed grill, front fascia and 19in wheels. On the inside there is now a 12.3in infotainment system and upgraded materials. Under the hood is a 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 that produces 272HP & is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Is the 2024 Acura TLX Technology a BETTER new luxury sedan than a Lexus IS 300?

@@chuckfan1 eh wouldn’t call it creepy … 🤣
Great video, Joe. I worked at the Honda assembly plant in Marysville, Ohio for 23 years. I built a lot of these Acuras. The main complaint I have against Acura is they don't offer a six cylinder option. This is Honda's premium brand and shouldn't be limited to a 4 cylinder.
Tlx type s is 6 cyl
@@dal0022 Thank you..
Who cares about V6
Love the TLX but for that price I think I'd rather put the extra cash and go directly for the Type S, I mean this Technology trim is far from been cheap.
Yeah car prices are nuts these days the type S is the better pick if you are spending near 50k I mean a IS350 fsport is 57k that is just nuts when you can get a type S for a little less.
The bowling ball “quip” had me laughing. I appreciate the deadpan delivery too. 😂
7:27
This is a much better interior design than the old 10 years Lexus interior!!
100% agree with the wheel comment, looks like an Accord wheel
I don't hear many people comment on it, but the giant knob with the huge "Dynamic Mode" feels so extra, I'm not gonna be changing modes often enough to make that big centerpiece and doofy label necessary, and I doubt anyone else is either
Looks good. I think Lexus needs a refresh.
I've got my 2024 Acura TLX Tech and I LOVE IT!!!!!! This video is great and shows all of the details that I am experiencing. Great vehicle for the price. Acura all the way!
How your Acura has been so far ? , any rattling noise , how many miles per gallon is the car making , any electrical problem ? , I want to buy me one
First i wanted to say ' such a nice driver cockpit, Joe but you said that .😅
You are so Persics, Joe. ❤
Love the way the TLX drives. I want to go for the TYPE S though
The IS is it for me, much more of a drivers car. To me the TLX competes more with the ES than the IS
I drove an Acura TLX for 5 days. It was full of deal breakers:
1. Seats - Lumbar support can't be 100% backed off. It jabs you in the back no matter what.
2. Infotainment - Imagine your phone only responds via an external mousepad plugged into it.
3. Size - It's not sporty. It's fat and long (See below).
The 185"L x 72"W Lexus IS 300 is a compact executive car (D-segment, i.e. BMW 3-series) with a touch screen.
The 195"L x 75"W Acura TLX is an executive car (E-segment, i.e. BMW 5-series) with no touch screen.
Point 3 is what most reviewers are not addressing. This car is enormous for claiming to be a sport sedan. And it doesn't even have the interior capacity to compensate for that.
This car is more for a grown man Scott. A grown man doesn’t want to drive a HOT girly car
We bought my wife's RDX from Maus Acura. They were fantastic, can't recommend them enough.
What discount did you get? How much did you negotiate off the MSRP?
Better than an IS300 and IS350 yes. Better than an IS500 no.
Wasn't the gs the competition for this car?
Better is relative to what the individual prefers in the overall driving experience. I own a '22 TLX A-SPEC and test drove a '22 IS300. I like my Acura but there are a lot of things that the Lexus did better. Overall quality felt superior in the Lexus. Also, The Acura is a very large car with boat-like proportions and feel and massive blind spots on slow corners (e.g. parking lots) due to its massive beak. The Lexus may be slower on paper (for the sake or argument we'll say the IS300 AWD vs. the A-SPEC with AWD), but the Lexus feels more nimble and in-control. Also, the sound and feel of a naturally aspirated V6 vs. the soulless 4-banger adds intangible value. The Honda K series motor is good but has no character, much like other 4 cylinders. Seats in the Lexus were phenomenal as well. If one is in the market I'd say test drive both because driving experience is not something that can be captured while reading or viewing an online review, but it does add value nonetheless. I know I'll be re-evaluating my decision in a couple months.
No shit
My only problem is that Lincoln doesn't have anything to put against this and the IS. Even Cadillac has the CT5.
This is not better than an IS350.
Let's back to Florida 🎉
Love the stance- wide and low. Looks almost like a rear wheel drive car as they avoided a super long front overhang. With that said, it is still a FWD based vehicle. Yes, I know there's an AWD version (and Honda and Acura are known for excellent handling FWD vehicles), but for me, I'll take a RWD vehicle all day, everyday. Better weight distribution, lighter and less complex than AWD, better visual proportions (at the cost of rear seat space), and most important to me - NO TORQUE STEER. Everyone's preferences and needs may vary, and there's nothing wrong with that, but for me, after many, many FWD cars, I won't ever go back. This Acura is beautiful, and I've always loved the brand. I just hate the fact that Acura refuses to offer a proper rear wheel drive sedan. Look at the old Honda S2000- can you imagine if Acura would have offered a larger sedan based on that? It could have been the replacement for the Integra. It would have been LEGENDary.
I have 2022 TLX Tech Package and I love it. Aside from the digital dash, nothing else changed enough for the "upgrade" in model years.
Just like the integra, this just feels like a tuned up accord in a suit but with less stellar technology and worse mpg’s
I love this video Thank you. There’s no spare tire in the trunk, it comes with the tire inflator kit and has the battery underneath.. Thank you again for the Video!
18:05 ?
Hello @raitiride , I’ve always wondered why don’t you do more Acura vehicles with different trims. Anyways thanks for the video 🎉
there is 9,375,097 types of cars, trucks, trims etc... only so much time.. stop wondering..

Yes of course Joe & this is my second sedan.

Joe, you got me with Grandpa's balls lol...
I have to make sure people are paying attention.
IS is extremely small, Civic/Corolla size inside. TLX is definitely better, but both of them are extremely behind in their tech while charging outrageous prices. Legacy auto makers will fail extremely hard within a few years unless they react fast to changing market.
Last week i test drove a TLX, liked the Design but not so much the way it drove. I ended up getting the IS 300 instead. Although both feel Sporty the IS drove smoother to me.
😢😢😢
Any reason why you didn't go for the IS 350 instead for the 3.5L NA V6? What does 300 have? Is it 3L V6? I mean I guess the price is higher for sure
How long before transmission problems, Honda/Acura notorious for this issue, ever resolved??? Would still get LEXUS/TOYOTA
No transmission in my accord hybrid..
Lol OK @chrisemerson9748
You might be thinking of the ZF transmissions. They rid of those and i believe these are in house design.
I'd just go 3 series personally. But I do own an IS, an IS 500. My wife had a 330i before, and I can't imagine this TLX drives better than that 330i did, considering its weight and that it is front-wheel drive.
Not sure about the tech package, but I have a type s and this car drives better than that 330i. No question.
@@MikeYurbasovich Yeah, that's a Type S. I'm more referring to the car Joe reviewed...
Get the tight small plastic lightweight unreliable car you see everywhere and it’s not as beautiful
Get a Cadillac ct5
Loving the Acura TLX Technology I think this is a dandy.
why is not having a touch screen a zonk? they’re so impractical for cards
It is the same engine that the Accord 2.0t Sport/Touring used to had but both are now hybrid. Honda axed those engines for the Accord so they can sell the TLX with that gem of an engine which is a detuned type r. Now, if you have $45-50k, you can get that engine with this TLX. I had the 2021 TLX Tech, rear dual usb c, larger infotaintment screen, digital tach are the only updates. Rear seats are tight even if you compare it to an Integra which looks more compact from the outside. It’s interior is way more luxurious though than the Integra (Civic).
I have a 2012 Acura TL AWD with 305hp and the technology package. Acura sure has changed up their trims for AWD, ETC
A naturally aspirated 4 or 6 cylinder would have been my preference
I've been shopping for a new TLX Type S, SH-AWD. Truly disappointed that it only comes with black wheels. Certainly the black wheels are considered 'cool' by some buyers, however, I'm old school and want a different option
The wheels across all 3 models are disappointing. The Tech model looks like the Hybird Accord Sport. The A-spec wheels only look good with certain colors. And the S-Type needs and option that seems a bit more 'grown up', imo.
What happed to the tire and wheel package for $800? 4X to get dealer accessory wheel with summer tires ! The standard US wheel on Type S has been 🤢 . Canada has Y Spoke with summer tires standard.
I have a 23. Acura doesn't offer black wheels, they are shark gray. I had mine painted at a body shop for $400.00, and they look great.
@@MikeYurbasovichthe 2024 tlx is shark black in America.
@@edr4973the tech has had those wheels since the beginning.
Joe is right on the Lexus IS 350 transmission, but keep in mind you only get the 8-speed transmission on the RWD car. The AWD version (rear wheel biased) still has the old 6-speed transmission, which is a shame. You'll get more power to the ground with the AWD car, but pay for it in weight and fuel economy. And in my area (northern Ohio), we mostly get the AWD cars. With the TLX, you get the 10-speed regardless of whether you buy the FWD or AWD version.
Also, I would bet Acura did not sell that many base model TLXs without the Technology Package, so it makes sense this is now the base level car.
Good job Joe 👏👏
any update on the crown athlete
I’m going TLX it looks better and got a peppy engine too. The 2.0T is a glorious engine
It sure is Matt!
Thank you, Joe, for reminding us that international pancake day is coming up.
Heck yeah! Get the syrup ready!
Since they're both fwd & about same size this should've been compared with the Lexus ES. Of course that would be no comparison the Lexus blows this thing away. The lack of a touchscreen alone on the Acura is a dealbreaker imo
the reason for the touch pad over a touch screen is because the screen is recessed deeper out of normal reach while driving, the pad is closer.
Acura drives way better than a dressed Camry. That ES compared better to a Mazda 6 and even that drives better 😂. GTFOH
The ES is still selling well in its 6th year whereas TLX sales have been dismal from the start. It's the customers that have spoken loudly & clearly
I have a '15 TLX V6 FWD....love the car...is the '24 bigger?
I have the 21 TLX Tech and have been waiting to see where they go with the line. Cleaning up the number of models was a great idea. The base was pointless. The Advance items (many removed) should have been in the Tech/A-Spec line. And a FWD and AWD option was too confusing.
The trackpad infotainment system is bad. Even when you get used to it, you long for something easier to use. I also agree the wheels look like the Honda Hybrid Sport. The wheels are too busy in the A-Spec and S-lines. Jus a total miss across the 24 line..
It is a great looking car though. I often get compliments or people asking 'what kind of car is that?'
It's a lot of bang for the buck. Sadly 40k is pretty much table stakes for a decent car. So 46k for the TLX Tech is a good deal. I considered a Touring Accord for a hot second. It was 39k and the fit/finish and overall feel was night and day different.
Those wheels look like they came from a CR-V. LOL
Beautiful beautiful car right there! 👌The front styling is awesome. Kind of has some front style ques of a s550 mustang and a Ford fusion. Looks great.
Review the Aspec in urban grey pearl next?!
Shouldn’t we be comparing the TLX with the Lexus ES? The IS should be compared with the Integra
True
Acura did a good job with the TLX for sure!!
Joe, while I really like the updated look and trim options with the TLX, my general loyalty to Lexus would have me choosing either the IS350 or the IS500. You know, just for kicks and giggles. 😉
I love Acura TLX but they need to do a better job with the design, especially the back of the vehicle.
Great looking car, and actually reminds me a lot of my Audi A4.
That style would make a great hatchback. Would have been a great 1990 Legend. Take it over IS. Torque steer?
The only bad thing is too!! Heavy for been 4 cylinder!! Weighted almost the same as the type S 😮😮
Fantastic video Joe.
It is a nice vehicle. Around corners, you can feel the weight. Great daily driver.
You are so very right!
What happened to stock rims on Acura they used to be beautiful,
Those balls😂😂😂😂im done
I think I would go Lexus Joe
This one looks better than Lexus.
Acura really needs to get rid of touch pad. Once they do, their sales was increase significantly. Also due for some major refreshes.
The rear passenger bottom door trim does not line up 🤔
46k lol they can keep it and not even AWD, same hp as last year and u want almost 50k no sir
Beautiful car. I save money by taking Jack in the 📦 tacos to the movie theater. lol
Good call man!
Is 350 is AWD. They do make a rear wheel drive 350 but not many. Is 500, 475 hp, is rwd only.
The ILX went to the gym got contacts dumped the CD player and now what you got to say...... Ladies. Still I would buy one, sigh. Oh yeah 19 inches ladies (wheels).
So they call the trim “Technology” but no touch screen. Makes total sense!
Isn’t there apple carplay? Usually that makes it a touch screen
the reason for the touch pad over a touch screen is because the screen is recessed deeper out of normal reach while driving, the pad is closer.
@@richm1231 are they so old they don’t realize everyone wants to touch it
I would compare this with the ES not the IS
One of the best looking interior
I have a 2023 aspec grey is it worth the upgrade to 2024 aspec I was thinking about going type s but don’t want to be paying close to $60k
I was thinking the same I have the 21 aspec shawd hated the hdmi exhaust tips and really wanted the type S quad cans. After doing some research I found a quad pipe for the non type S for only 230 bucks order it and install it made a world of difference sounds great and looks great.
I 👍🏻 this car joe
Hey Joel if it has a turbocharged it's awesome
Acura needs a touch screen … Luxury Honda Accord 🔥💯
I went with the 2023 Lexus IS 350 F Sport RWD last year! I love my car and it's absolutely a head turner especially with the color combo I have which is Ultrasonic Blue Mica 2.0 with White interior. Amazing drive and smooth and takes off very well. 3.5L NA V6 is a banger.

Acura TLX Versus Lexus IS 300. Discover how the TLX compares to the Lexus IS 300. The Acura TLX is the better premium sport sedan with more horsepower and driver-focused features, like ventilated front seats, than the Lexus IS 300. The TLX is the clear winner in precision handling and refinement.
Discover touchpad technology from 1995 in the TLX. Everyone has precision handling and refinement these days, those things mattered in 1990's and 2000's, but the world had moved on.
Looks cooler than the Lexus too.
@@00_UUno that’s what Lexus had. Acura used to have 2 screens and the media cried about it. Crazy how it’s congratulated since the Germans are now doing it.
@@rahimi4762 having two screens were not the problem, it was the way Acura had them. They looked cheap, they were not well implemented. So strange because 2004 Acura TSX/2004 Acura TL had amazing touchscreens, so ahead of their time. Those old Acuras also had perfect premium audio systems. Lexus touchpads are also outdated.
They need a rear wheel drive as the base trim.
Now i want Checkers

Love TLX! Have to agree on the rims they are too basic for a car so handsome. The inside still is missing something to take it to the next level. It's nice just doesn't feel luxurious as the price. This car breaks my neck from looking on the road. The lines and curves are all perfect
I don’t like the light headliner. Wish it was black.
