First of all you got to hear the Apex from the outside the exhaust does sound pretty good and different than the regular se and xse BUT LET ME SAY THIS..... sorry for the long comment but I hope this motivates anyone with one of these Corollas SE XSE OR APEX This is coming from somebody who's built tons of Hondas and has a full blown '95 Civic Coupe track car with a built k24 block and K20 head The only Corolla prior to this I ever liked was the '05 to '06 Corolla XRS with the 2ZZ engine You can make them look really good honestly I mean my uncle picked up one of these he got a 2020 SE model really wanted an apex could not find one so we got the SE instead but you can get pretty much everything to make it look like an apex which is the same side skirts he has here in the video and then the Apex style front lip and rear lip BUT LET ME SAY THIS.... After my uncle put on a set of coilovers or lowering springs I don't remember which one he went with IT COMPLETELY CHANGE THE LOOK OF THE CAR and those are very subtle things but basically turning it into the Apex on the outside gave it way more flair AND FOR PERFORMANCE...... The first mod we did was a K&n short ram intake but here's the thing unlike all the other short ram intakes out there the K&n actually has a heat shield so that it doesn't get major heat soak and suck up hot-air it also has a spot in the heat shield where you can hook up the stock air duct that runs down to the front grill to still feed that intake cold air .. AND LET ME TELL YOU.. that was his first mod and it made it sound WAY WAY WAY MORE AGGRESSIVE!!!!!!!! Then was surprised how much better it made the car breathe Then.... Next we ended up going with a custom 2.5-in catback exhaust made because the borla sounds good but is really expensive over $1,000 got a really nice custom 2.5-in cat back exhaust made and then just chose the style muffler we wanted and it has a nice deep tone just like the one in the video And lastly we went with a header for it which eliminates the catalytic converters and that made a huge bump in performance and then got it Dyno tuned to those mods That car is so much more fun and quick even when it just had an intake but after intake headers exhaust and a tune that thing is keeping up with my mom's 2012 Civic SI with a K series with similar mods and even My Mitsubishi lancer ralliart with full bolt ones and tune Not quite quick enough to keep up with my track car that's 95 Civic Coupe with a k-24 block and K20 head naturally aspirated all motor with full bolt-ons but I will say the car sounds good it looks good it's much much quicker than it was it's still reliable because it's all motor no turbo no nitrous no super charger and it's still reliable And he will beat a GR86 stock with the mods he has then he has kept up with one at intake and exhaust from a roll Of course the six-speed manual is the way to go but I will say even the CVT automatic Corollas if you put them in sport mode turn the traction control off and put it in manual shift mode since they have a 10 speed transmission they are actually slightly quicker than the six-speed manuals it's probably the only Corolla I have ever liked or had fun riding in or driving Since the 2005 to 2006 Corolla XRS with the 2zZ engine So if you're having doubts about one of these go for it I think it's doing something different you'll really like it they look good they can decently quick and you'll have fun with it and who cares what the haters say

The current generation Corolla is a major improvement inside and out over the last generation. Great video! A little disappointed in the Corolla Apex, but as the name implies, it's more handling focused. Fingers crossed on the Corolla GR. Powerwise what the Corolla will have and what Toyota claims it will have remains to be seen. I can picture them detuning the GR engine 20 or so horsepower and giving it an automatic from the Camry or a CVT as an option. I'm a huge Toyota fan, but that type of spec wouldn't surprise me. Toyota's conservative approach to cars has been a big reason for their stellar reliability, but that conservative approach to reliability makes me think the GR will be a little disappointing. Nicely put together video, except for one thing. “iT iS hArD tOuCh pLaStiC” lol dude, what’s your problem? It’s an economy car, nobody is finessing the dash or console or door panels. I used to have this car and I drive 50,000 miles a year and I think it’s perfectly comfortable. Nobody cares if the dashboard is made of hard plastic. Yes sometimes your hand rubs against it but that’s it. It’s easy to clean. All of you automotive journalists constantly complain about this. Have some realistic expectations and stop comparing this car to other cars outside the size category or price range. Other than that it was a great video.
Technical complaint on the beginning of the video: Filming a black car in the shade means it's hard to see details. Otherwise, excellent video as always.
Same old Toyota. They've been doing this for decades. Slap on some nice-looking bits, maybe stiffer handling and call it TRD or whatever. If they DID add power, it would probably be 40-50 hp, and cost $8,000 more.

Ok what do we do with this information?
said no one ever. This Corolla looks 1000X better and is 1000X more reliable.
@@braetonwilson4296 but the corolla does not have vtec
@@braetonwilson4296 civic is better than Corolla in any imaginable way
@@ARod13XxX You're right. Civic beats Corolla in the oil dilution and poor reliability competitions. Also Civic doesn't offer apple carplay and android auto in the base LX trim while Corolla offers both in the base L trim so Civic beats Corolla in the poor value competition.
Nice review on the 2021 Toyota Corolla Apex. 👍🏼
Nice job on getting the manual! It is such a shame that only 120 will be manuals out of 6,000 being built. I have a feeling the manuals will be the ones that will increase in value. I can understand why this exists but I think many enthusiasts are waiting for the GR Corolla with that 250 HP turbo engine and the 6-speed manual.
My biggest complaint is that it's going to be another hatchback which some people will like, but me personally I would rather see the GR in the sedan version.
Corolla Apex XSE $29,580 who buys that?
Not me, I rather buy something else with that price tag.
GTI & Si, all in similar range
Might as well save up and get the Camry trd
Successful people who are not broke like you
@@braetonwilson4296 Wym corolla is almost the opposite of what successful people drive, not far from the end of the spectrum. At least the good ol’ toyota pickup has a war named after it.
Wish Toyota would add 6 spd to their Supra’s. Here we are having Corollas having manual trans. 😭😭😭😭
TRD Intake and Exhaust and it feels like something after that
After almost 20 years, this is Toyota's answer to the Chevrolet Monte Carlo Dale Earnhardt Signature Edition..
Its an all out bad deal. I do not see the value for the price at all. How much again is a Forte GT, Elantra Sport, Civic Si, Soul Turbo, etc.?
Had a Corolla for a rental car recently and couldn't believe how loud the road noise/etc was on it.
That's how sports car sounds
Toyota = boring & underwhelming
The day Toyota actually makes an exciting car (Supra is a BMW...and 86 is Subaru) I will respect them.
Till then, their products put me to sleep...🥱😴
I respect Toyota for doing typical business stuff. Slapping the name Supra on a z4 and using 86 on the brz platform vs going from ground up is peak bisbísese money making opportunities. Don’t hate the player hate the game
GR Yaris?
I heard (not comedy sure) the new 86 and BRZ will be on a toyota platform. But they weren't they both developed by both companies? So they are a baby for both Toyota and Subaru. And at least they make could SUVs and Trucks. I'm glad they dont throw turbos in everythig. And the Camry V6 has 300 hp which compared to what I drive sounds fast as hell.
They should just make a rear wheel drive corolla like they used to 👌.. and or a MR2 type.
Oh, and the Toyota 86 doesnt really count though, its technically Subaru's.
Toyota GR Yaris
Lowered? By 0.5 of an inch? HALF AN INCH? Jesus, wow what a game changer
Exterior styling is so nice.
Not an si fighter, now the kia Forte gt yes
Kudos to Toyota! They have managed to use their reputation to sell anything.
Me: looks good
Same engine: pass
Just focus on the GR Corolla please, enough of this crap Toyota.
This APEX is basically a carolla with an factory after-market body kit.. I like the front end tho.
Yup. It looks good but not worth the money at all. There’s so many better cars at this price and segment.
Nah man. This car is ugly. The 2019 model looks more tamed
Looks mad fresh but just one problem no duo exhaust that would make the car look perfect from the back not with the single 😖
I still think the corolla hybrid is the best car of 2020-2021
Toyota and Lexus really love making these appearance package trims and people just continue to buy them. What we've really been needing are new engines and transmissions for like 10 years already. Same deal with the new Lexus IS
First of all you got to hear the Apex from the outside the exhaust does sound pretty good and different than the regular se and xse BUT LET ME SAY THIS.....
sorry for the long comment but I hope this motivates anyone with one of these Corollas SE XSE OR APEX
This is coming from somebody who's built tons of Hondas and has a full blown '95 Civic Coupe track car with a built k24 block and K20 head The only Corolla prior to this I ever liked was the '05 to '06 Corolla XRS with the 2ZZ engine
You can make them look really good honestly I mean my uncle picked up one of these he got a 2020 SE model really wanted an apex could not find one so we got the SE instead but you can get pretty much everything to make it look like an apex which is the same side skirts he has here in the video and then the Apex style front lip and rear lip
BUT LET ME SAY THIS.... After my uncle put on a set of coilovers or lowering springs I don't remember which one he went with IT COMPLETELY CHANGE THE LOOK OF THE CAR and those are very subtle things but basically turning it into the Apex on the outside gave it way more flair
AND FOR PERFORMANCE...... Then was surprised how much better it made the car breathe
Then.... Next we ended up going with a custom 2.5-in catback exhaust made because the borla sounds good but is really expensive over $1,000 got a really nice custom 2.5-in cat back exhaust made and then just chose the style muffler we wanted and it has a nice deep tone just like the one in the video
And lastly we went with a header for it which eliminates the catalytic converters and that made a huge bump in performance and then got it Dyno tuned to those mods
That car is so much more fun and quick even when it just had an intake but after intake headers exhaust and a tune that thing is keeping up with my mom's 2012 Civic SI with a K series with similar mods and even My Mitsubishi lancer ralliart with full bolt ones and tune
Not quite quick enough to keep up with my track car that's 95 Civic Coupe with a k-24 block and K20 head naturally aspirated all motor with full bolt-ons but
I will say the car sounds good it looks good it's much much quicker than it was it's still reliable because it's all motor no turbo no nitrous no super charger and it's still reliable
And he will beat a GR86 stock with the mods he has then he has kept up with one at intake and exhaust from a roll
Of course the six-speed manual is the way to go but I will say even the CVT automatic Corollas if you put them in sport mode turn the traction control off and put it in manual shift mode since they have a 10 speed transmission they are actually slightly quicker than the six-speed manuals it's probably the only Corolla I have ever liked or had fun riding in or driving
Since the 2005 to 2006 Corolla XRS with the 2zZ engine So if you're having doubts about one of these go for it I think it's doing something different you'll really like it they look good they can decently quick and you'll have fun with it and who cares what the haters say
But it’s for other people that doesn’t need a turbo they wanted. I would be more than happy if I ever decided to get this beautiful apex corolla. Same goes for the GR corolla in 2022
why do people get spoilers on cars that give you super slow 0-60 times?
169hp I can see why they made only 6000 of them smh 🤦
Are you going to race your car or what?
I dont understand why they have the Yaris gr with 260+ hp in other markets but can't have it around here
I guess they think a small 2 door car costing 30k wont sell.
I'll never understand Toyota marketing.
@@baronvonjo1929 but the other brands are doing it but I see your point

I Literally beat one of these in my 4 cylinder Toyota Previa Van. It tried but i left him it was great. I am all wheel and supercharged from factory.
I’ve been thinking about getting one of these apex or an E46 BMW but if they had put a turbo charge or made it as sporty as it looks then I would have been %1,00000 sold on the apex
The corolla used to be another ride now it’s a beautiful ride
Ok paid worker
I agree, it's a very sexy looking car.
@@torguy5763 wth are you talking about
Drove the base Corolla cvt hatch back to back with the base Mazda3 6auto hatch and it was literally night and day. Mine was made up and decided Mazda instantly.
I will say one thing though Toyota always stick to the tried-and-true stuff that always works
Yeah it looks quick an that's about it, lol!
Putting a turbo in a Corolla makes about as much sense as buying a Ram Cummings for it's fuel efficiency.
Great review Sofyan!!! Thanks!! 👍👍👍
Wait.. did he say 250hp Corolla going to be release?... Ooo..
Yes for once it might not take 30 years 0-60. Maybe they won't use the CVT as a 10-speed auto like the slow one too.
It got better wheels than the TLX Aspec
The current generation Corolla is a major improvement inside and out over the last generation. I do like to see editions like the Apex because i think eventually we will see a version that we can all be happy with. I am not a hatchback fan and prefer the sedan. The only things I would like to see before I sign on the dotted line are more HP in the manual and please get rid of that god awful looking radio. It really brings down the interior. Other than these two issues Toyota has made many steps in the right direction.
Ah, so it's a poser. Yeah, no thanks... I'll take the Kia Forte GT or Hyundai Elantra N Line instead.
I can't be the only person who wants to see the 1987 gts reverse engineered, redesigned and launched as a next gen Trueno.
For this price might as well just get a trd camry!
A lot of the younger crowd won't be able to afford insurance if they made the apex with a turbo ...
This car is way better then the Hyundai Elantra in terms of reliability.
Toyota Corolla Apex, IMO, would look better in a gray (gunmetal) color so as to highlight more of the black out badging and other areas. Interior looks good. Back seat area could use some creature comfort upgrades as standard, with at least charging ports. Blind spot monitoring should be standard on ALL vehicles. Sadly, so many people have no clue as to driving/shifting a manual transmission. Good review, Slainte' ! Cheers !
Why is it so sad that people don’t know how to drive a manual ?
@@robertgraham5486 At one time, manual transmission vehicles were significantly more in use in a wider range of vehicles. If someone had an emergency and only vehicle available to seek help was a stick shift, you can kiss you a** goodbye ... And on another note, going through the gears on a manual transmission vehicle, in particular a sports car, is FUN & can be quite exhilarating adding to the driving experience ...
@@tapper701 your right,I owned a few ,my second car was a manual, three on the tree, kid I bought it from drew the letter H on a piece of paper and told me explained how it worked ,only thing I remember that day was being on a steep hill at a light and having to quickly get off the brake and on to the gas,I had a Volkswagen for my second manual and although it probably had 50 hp it seemed faster to me that I never noticed
I’m sorry, they wanna be taken more seriously??? Because they put a stick in a VERY limited number of these? No power bump either and it’s a shame because this car looks very good!
Corolla with a body kit lol. But ofcourse, we can't expect a fast car from Toyota.
You have never heard of the toyota GR yaris have you?
The rest of the world gets the Yaris GR but Toyota's largest and most profitable market gets the Corolla Ape's Ex Edition. Who, what, when, where & why? At least give this Apex the Camry's 203 hp 2.5.
Fingers crossed.
I'll take the corolla with manual gear box over the cvt gear box for revving the motor up into speed for fun.
I think Toyota wasted this beautiful looking design of a Corolla just to have a regular n.a 4 cylinder. The looks of this car could be in the same room as the RS, RS3, A45, Clio RS etc etc..... if had the performance and I guarantee it’ll be the most reliable one of the bunch haha.
I agree, this is a beautiful car
They should make a turbo hot hatch version with this styling.....of course that would be too good though
Civic fighter? With 169 HP? >_>
Technical complaint on the beginning of the video: Filming a black car in the shade means it's hard to see details. Otherwise, excellent video as always.
How is the road noise on this model. Is it any improved than the previous years?
It would be better to keep the 2.0 with the turbo than to drop to a 3 cylinder. That’s going to reduce reliability
It's NOT, Because if it was the Turbocharged one, it would be the Gazoo Racing awd, they've been teasing us about.
Same old Toyota. They've been doing this for decades. Slap on some nice-looking bits, maybe stiffer handling and call it TRD or whatever. If they DID add power, it would probably be 40-50 hp, and cost $8,000 more.
Just got an xse hatch!
