Thomas Piper yeah and the fucking Siri assistant is still trash and doesn't work with Spotify, google play music. its not compatible with smartphone devices. it can't do basic functions. google home can do TONS more
If he compared it to a good quality speaker he would have nothing to say. You notice he does not compare functionality? The $99 Google Home Mini will do much more than this device and is not locked into one eco system.
That may be right. Thats why it would be accurate to come to a similar quality device I have a google home mini yes all my other devices are Mac(iMac ,iPad pro ,MacBook pro iPhone X) i hope the Home pod is Great like the AirPods
Will the home pod play my music library or am I stuck with paying Apple for music ? A lot of my music comes off my cds & because my Imac is a 2010 it won’t work with my Apple tv because its one year too old.
Whelp, I was thinking about getting the Apple HomePod, but not anymore. What would be the next best alternative? Google Home or Amazon Echo/Alexa? Are either of those connectable and usable with Apple Products?
I still don't get why people buy home assistants in general. You can use Siri or Google Assistant in your smartphone if you want voice commands. I believe that Google Home Max and Apple HomePod make more sense as products. They may be expensive, but since they both offer high end sound quality, they can replace an old sound system in your home.
Finally, someone point this out. When they put Siri and Google Assistant in their phones. They made a big deal about it. And now, they encourage you to buy an additional smart kit just so you can use these assistants that already available in your phone. Google Max and HomePods on the other hand, does make sense much more.
It is only cool if u already have many HomeKit products at home. So you can command them easily. But yeah, right now I don’t use any HomeKit items, so the HomePod is pretty useless. Actually Most products are redundant, it’s like wireless charging, why the fuck do you need that? There is a wire, and bringing a wire around is better than bringing a pad and it’s cheaper. Yes people say it is more convenient, well let me ask you how long it takes to plug in a wire? Apple Watch is cool to have but I found that it actually does not do much in my life so I sold it.
I thought about this before and watched videos of it and thought the same. I thought they were pretty useless and a waste of money. But once i started integrating my home products together, it became so easy to control with voice. Its not being lazy, its just makes life so . Much. Simpler. Now I am a believer. At the end of the day when you are tired and don't want to move, you just say turn off the lights. If you wake up at 2 am and dont want to stare at the bright alarm clock, you ask what is the time? If you want quick weather for tomorrow, just ask! If you feel its very cold, ask to change the temperature on the thermostat. The purpose of these products is to be phone free even though one can use it with their phone or tie it to their ecosystem. Its like for cars, one can drive manually , but you would prefer the Tesla doing the driving right? All for the sake of convenience and making life simpler, not lazy or wasting money. Once you start doing it, you will understand what I mean. For right now, for those nonbelievers, Yeah, you keep sucking up on your prideful ignorant ego.
Are you saying that if I have several HomePods in diff rooms, I have to buy as many as I need which comes with a heavy price tag? It’s a little insane!
Sean Thomas Apple specifically stated during their introduction of the HomePod that it is the combination of a high quality Wi-Fi speaker (worth $300-$500) and a smart speaker (worth $100-$200). That is how they came up with their bargain basement pricing of $350 for the HomePod.
I think Apple has made a smart and correct move by prioritizing sound quality over smart feature. I mean does not it looks ridiculous to talk to speaker just to switch off lamp? You can do it easily from your device. It is the sound that matter. I dont really care about siri. I just hope i can just use it for movie, listening to audio and for youtube. I just need a decent wireless speakee. Since apple made one, i just grab it. Rumors had it, everything apple made, it just the best
Mohamad Aizat Zakaria agreed! I think Apple have watched this market for a long time and realised people tend to only use smart speaker functions for the basics like alarms , news , weather ect and spend the rest of the time complaining about bad audio
And AirPods everyone mocked the design and now almost everyone has a pair. U have to give credit when credit is due. Apple isn’t a perfect company as other companies aren’t either.
Wut , agreed! Sure everyone makes mistakes, but smashing a company just for being a company is a bit harsh. I wonder how fast the HomePod will take off
My dad has a watch series 3, seriously the way it works seamlessly with phone and app support and it's fluidity I am just in love with this, hopefully I will buy one day for myself :D @Wesley Currier. Some ppl literally mix up smartwatch with fitness tracker :v. Just bcoz they hate apple they come up with any lame excuse.
And one more thing, I see three categories here and they are majority: 1. I don't use it so others can't,will say any bullshit. 2. I haven't seen it, used it,ppl say it's shit. As it's a premium product(overpriced according to them) it must be a shit. 3. Don't research properly on how these devices are different from others and end up saying it's overpriced. I mean after knowing about face id it will be a shame to compare facial recognition with face id.That's the reason why droid manufacturers are keeping fingerprint, even their fingerprint isn't safe either :v.
If you are going to be on camera, I suggest you work on looking and sounding more relaxed and not so monotone. It works for VO and not on camera. Otherwise - good info!
Sonos has been doing most of the audio functionalities on the HomePod for a while... I have Sonos One (that uses Alexa and will have the option for Google Home in a few months) and Sonos Play:5 and loving it so far. We'll see...
Thanks for the information but was this an exercise in communicating Apple press materials (with the included competition negatives - no positives)? Apple is introducing a speaker where much of the functionality is deferred into the future but Apple promises it will sound good once they enable all the functionality sometime in the future. BTW, Apple won't support other streaming platforms. Siri has been hanging about for years and is still no match for the Google Assistant - a promise unfulfilled. Seems like Apple and Tesla are converging in the 1) delayed introductions, 2) delivering a product - incomplete with a promise in the future and 3) charging a premium price.
Mxdanger Gaming Butthurt just like all Apple fanboys. They said the same thing about the overpriced iPhone x and it's production is getting cancelled because of low demand. I didn't make it up.
Let it land first, what can't u say airpod is the best option now?? I said option, didn't say it's the best quality headphone, I am an isheep, but can think what is good or bad :P, not a droid fanboy.
Thank you for this pre review. You've done an absolutely excellent job of packaging the available information and specifications in an easy to understand and digest manner. I will subscribe to your channel on the basis of how well you've presented this video.
You are wrong. HomePod won't be on the same market with Amazon and Google's speakers. It is direct competitor to Sonos or Denon Heos. And not full coz sitll HomePod has no multiroom functionality.
This. The "reviewer" doesn't know shit, gets many things wrong. Not only was the iPhone a revolution, which the guy undermines, but yea, HomePod is not even competing with Amazon and Google's speakers.
Home pod is (higher end) competition to sanos and Bose would be cool to see a smaller home pod like the echo dot so we can few home pods around the house
As a HomePod owner, it's becoming clearer, Apple developed the HomePod not to compete with other 'smart speakers, but as an audio accessory tailored to increase the value of Apple Music. This makes sense if Apple is trying to increase revenue for their services. Reviews do not compare other 'smart speakers' to HomePod's 7 unique features that have never been in a speaker before: 1.) Omnidirectional Listening 2.) Dynamic re-tuning to custom location. 3.) Distortion free at any sound level 4.) Woofer enhanced travel model 5.) Computer chip sound processing 6.) Quality sound for size. 7.) Accessory to support music service. If you compare competitors to these contributions to speaker technology, none of the competitors are doing this. The HomePod is not for you if you already have a speaker system. Rather the HomePod is targeted to a music (subscriber) lover purchasing their first speaker. One audience is larger than the other. In short, the technology works for you, rather than you working for the technology. Again, Apple demonstrates their ability to 'Think Differently.'
Better or not it'll sell. It's Apple and their loyal fans will buy it weather it's actually better or not. And of Apple will make the speaker quality better. You learn off the short comings and mistakes of the Competition and expand in those areas.
Amazing. This should be $399 or more! a second could have much less tech inside. Does iTunes have a free plan for a few songs each month. Will this crush, Spotify, Pandora, and other streaming music?
Let's be clear: I love Apple. One issue with Siri and the HomePod. That issue is functionality. Everything is locked to Apple products and services. You get HomePod, you can't use Spotify with Siri. Third-party services are simply not compatible with Siri, and it is frustrating. Even when you are fully immersed inside the Apple ecosystem as I and many of my coworkers are, things still don't get much better. I do not like Apple Music. Spotify is far better in my opinion, and I want to have the freedom to say "Hey Siri, play on Spotify", and for Siri to then do just that. I understand that Apple are a business, obviously. However, when I purchase a product out of my own money, I want it to work with products and services other than what Apple offer.
The HomePod can send text messages and make calls, the google and Alexa can't. thats the #2 feature I want... #1 is great sound which again homepod wins...
You begin by making a drawn-out discussion of the relative cost of the HomePod vs. Amazon's and Google's low-end devices. It wasn't until halfway through this video that you noted that the only other device that has a built-in woofer is Google's Home Max which costs $50 *more* than Apple's HomePod. Why did you start off with irrelevant price comparisons? So misleading…
Those critiquing Siri, how many of you actually find half the shit you can enable as skills or packed in functional? To me its one giant gimmick, I have amazon echo and I literally use it for everything apple will allow me to so and anything else I found fun for like 5 minutes and now don’t use. HomePod hits the sweet spot of audio competing with Sonos but basic smart functionality that in your home life you’ll find useful
AnnonGuy Google assistant does way more. I'd rather pay $400 for a Google home max which has way better everything than pay $300 for a stupid Apple home pod
as somebody who is in the Apple ecosystem, it would just mean me spending £400 - then more on top to have it work with my other stuff so no id rather save money, have a speaker which by its hardware is clearly going to be better and have Siri which already does everything i NEED oh ps, we don't have Google Max in UK yet, so really non of it matters but even if it was id still be getting HomePod
The HomePod can send text messages and make calls, the google and Alexa can't. thats the #2 feature I want... #1 is great sound which again homepod wins.
HomePod► bhpho.to/2kAcEX8
Lowest prices ►prices.appleinsider.com/smart-speakers
Why are you comparing it to the $100 Dollar Speakers. It is competing with Google home max.
Thomas Piper google home max cant do half of what the homepod can, your comment is futile
Thomas Piper yeah and the fucking Siri assistant is still trash and doesn't work with Spotify, google play music. its not compatible with smartphone devices. it can't do basic functions. google home can do TONS more
Justanotherguy swap that around. google home max can do twice of what the Homewood can.
I think Sonos is more of a direct competitor. I’m curious to see how the sound stacks up against the Sonos One.
I have the new Sonos One with Alexa built it. It isn't as full featured as the Dot (no skills) but for a smart speaker it sounds fantastic.
Because Sonia is a partnered company with Apple and Apple sells Sonos at their store. Sonos was the flagship before Apple decided to enter the market
Wow that was complete.
Does it work with iCloud Music Library?
Should I wait for the HomePod or get a Beolit 17?
Can use HomePod with tv?
Can I use it as a speaker for my Apple TV?
Can I link this to a Bluetooth speaker ?
WILL THE VOICE AND ALL THE FEATURES SLOW DOWN AFTER A YEAR SO YOU'LL HAVE TO PURCHASE THE LATEST MODEL LIKE THE IPHONE😥😥
There's no battery that can degrade.
Will the home pod play my music library or am I stuck with paying Apple for music ? A lot of my music comes off my cds & because my Imac is a 2010 it won’t work with my Apple tv because its one year too old.
please watch the full video to find out.
Whelp, I was thinking about getting the Apple HomePod, but not anymore. What would be the next best alternative? Google Home or Amazon Echo/Alexa? Are either of those connectable and usable with Apple Products?
This review makes me want to buy one.
Arwil Estrada not till they improve Siri bud
Can i attach this to a sub-woofer to my computer and iPhone for gaming Bass?
Will the Home Pod start fighting with my dot if I buy one ? Speaker catfight.
George Senda 😂😂😂👍try it
Okay, but how does it sound against Sonos One with Alexa? That's the question. It has a lot of the same features.
did I just watch a 7 minute ad?
I still don't get why people buy home assistants in general. You can use Siri or Google Assistant in your smartphone if you want voice commands.

Anestis Dalgkitsis i know right it’s like pretty useless to own one when you already have them on your phone by default
I bought a Bose wireless speaker 3 years ago that can't do half this can do for $499!

Compare it to Sonos.
Are you saying that if I have several HomePods in diff rooms, I have to buy as many as I need which comes with a heavy price tag? It’s a little insane!
Wait this has to be plugged in to an outlet? It’s not wireless?
Yes. All competing smart home speakers need to be plugged in to an outlet.
00:00 its bacicly apples version of google home or amazon alexa
Just ordered my Home Pod. Can’t wait for February 9th.
Does Bose have anything like this?
Apple say the HomePod is pitched against the sonos products. Not the Echo or Home.
Sean Thomas Apple specifically stated during their introduction of the HomePod that it is the combination of a high quality Wi-Fi speaker (worth $300-$500) and a smart speaker (worth $100-$200). That is how they came up with their bargain basement pricing of $350 for the HomePod.

@AnnonGuy perfectly said!!! " rest of the time complaining about bad audio" soooo true!!
2018 version iPod Hi-Fi.
Not sure if I’ll get this. I have a Bluetooth speaker (while not very good) and I can just talk to Siri on my phone.
I have a Bose speaker i use a lot. I think The A8 chip will be good later on with siri upgrades
Awesome in-depth coverage and comparison, I wasn’t too interested in home pod until seeing this, great work, gained a subscriber.
Since you said it hasBluetooth does that mean I can take it with me on the road.
Hopefully it will dominate in the market. And as usual haters will say it is a shit bcoz it’s apple. doesn’t matter
Shoumik Islam look at the Apple Watch. Sure people hate on it bc it’s Apple, but it destroyed all of the competition
And AirPods everyone mocked the design and now almost everyone has a pair. U have to give credit when credit is due. Apple isn’t a perfect company as other companies aren’t either.

If you are going to be on camera, I suggest you work on looking and sounding more relaxed and not so monotone. It works for VO and not on camera. Otherwise - good info!
Agreed. The presenter's head and shoulders are bouncing in cadence with his words. Otherwise, the info was helpful.
can we change its name?

Dude is reading straight off a screen with no emotion, we can find all this information on apples website thanks
This video is for people that don't want to read.
I wrote the script myself. It's the most efficient way to get that much information into such a short video.
That's because he's an Apple fanboy and doesn't have a brain😂😂😂
Mxdanger Gaming Butthurt just like all Apple fanboys. They said the same thing about the overpriced iPhone x and it's production is getting cancelled because of low demand. I didn't make it up.
AppleInsider well it sounds like the apple marketing team wrote it to be honest
Great video and analysis
I love Apple and their products but in order for them to compete with google home or amazon echo Siri will need a complete overhaul
Darrel Pryor it’s more competing with Sonos speakers in my opinion
Won’t take much time, see airpods is dominating the market, anyone can’t deny that
They are meant to compete with higher end bluetooth headphones, not the echo or google home.
Let it land first, what can't u say airpod is the best option now?? I said option, didn't say it's the best quality headphone, I am an isheep, but can think what is good or bad :P, not a droid fanboy.
Yeah siri sucks
When you talk about the hardware, the HomePod seems to be a Ferrari and the competitors shitty Prius... can't wait for it to arrive in Italy 😫

Martini dM It will soon have multi room capability with the release of iOS 11.3 by early spring.
What about a Sonos 1
Wonderful presentation well done dude
I can't wait until i can get HomePod to talk to my Amazon Echo and Google Home. Soon I will have all three
AM Wausau haha same here!
Mark Navarro I mean my Echo and Home talk all the time. It is time they got another friend
AM Wausau Um. Have an extra for a giveaway?
AM Wausau nice
same here.
Can't wait to get mine
If I got some like duel 12” subs could I like hook them up with the HomePod and have them play together?
Only if you give them pistols, Gage.
Amazing video . Very thorough . I’ll be looking for your hands on review before purchase, great job man.
Just got one today and it’s quite amazing jaja
Dude, the Google home max is the clear winner.
Very well explained 👍🏼
Great info! Very in-depth!!!
What a great review.
I’m guessing it doesn’t have an aux port ? I wouldn’t mind plugging in my 3DS every blue moon for better sound quality.
Home pod is (higher end) competition to sanos and Bose would be cool to see a smaller home pod like the echo dot so we can few home pods around the house

Great video guys. Keep improving!
Yes I like how you think Everyone Else Thinks Apple Is Slow And Lazy Because They Take Longer
They Are Just Refining Their Products
Amazing. This should be $399 or more! a second could have much less tech inside. Does iTunes have a free plan for a few songs each month. Will this crush, Spotify, Pandora, and other streaming music?
cant wait for this to come to my country 💞
Really useful! thanks!
Buying 2 of these is pretty insane though.
Great video man. Thanks...
We all know Apple are trend setters so this will blow up quick
You only show us what you want to make it look better
free advertisement for apple by this guy
Hands down best and most detailed video! 👌🏻👌🏻💯💯
You earned yourself a new sub :)
I'm glad the Google speaker already dose this.
Makes life easier
Yeah, and how much does the HomePod costs compared to what Google and Amazon has to offer? Compare using the same price Apple iSheep.
Anyone else think this guy talks as though it is a School Project?
Let's be clear: I love Apple.
One issue with Siri and the HomePod. That issue is functionality. Everything is locked to Apple products and services. You get HomePod, you can't use Spotify with Siri. The HomePod can send text messages and make calls, the google and Alexa can't. thats the #2 feature I want... #1 is great sound which again homepod wins...
now I want this
this is the big difference between Apple and the other companies, here it's the job of the greatest Enginners around the country and the planet
Hompod/apple TV , google home/ Chromecast, echo/ fire tv all need to be it's own units.
Sadly, Apple Music isn’t available in my part of the world just yet :(. Ah well - can’t win it all...
It’s not a sub woofer it’s a woofer or midrange driver, also the 7 tweeters are drivers on their own.
Sponsored by Adidas. Oops
Adidas is cool af anyway
Ah back in the days. “Weeddidas.”
The lack of Spotify makes me sad :(
They will probably add HomePod support after the launch of the product
in the vid it mentions you can use spotify with airplay
Spotify just dont work with siri, but you can play spotify with the homepod
Mxdanger Gaming ik, it’s not something that would stop me buying it, it’s just something I would like. I can’t afford it anyways
It's apple, they have Apple Music so of course they don't have Spotify support. If you want support for Spotify you should get a Google Home/Mini/Max
The $130 Google homer actually has 2 speakers, and they have very good sound quality. 1:10
did anyone else here him say something other than chip 3:45
Apple, oranges, and a dislike all have this video in common
Is there a different cover? This is going to get insects in it like the Apple Cube.
It comes on my birthday I might get one after my birthday
liked the video but it would’ve been better if your voice didn’t sound a robot reading an article. just a suggestion
Very cool review😎Glad to have found this channel😎New subscriber here,Thanks😎😎😎😎
I’m waiting for Apple VR
Those critiquing Siri, how many of you actually find half the shit you can enable as skills or packed in functional? To me its one giant gimmick, I have amazon echo and I literally use it for everything apple will allow me to so and anything else I found fun for like 5 minutes and now don’t use. HomePod hits the sweet spot of audio competing with Sonos but basic smart functionality that in your home life you’ll find useful
AnnonGuy Google assistant does way more. I'd rather pay $400 for a Google home max which has way better everything than pay $300 for a stupid Apple home pod
AnnonGuy that's a nice excuse for having a lower quality voice assistant
as somebody who is in the Apple ecosystem, it would just mean me spending £400 - then more on top to have it work with my other stuff so no id rather save money, have a speaker which by its hardware is clearly going to be better and have Siri which already does everything i NEED
oh ps, we don't have Google Max in UK yet, so really non of it matters but even if it was id still be getting HomePod
not really an excuse, just my point of view. But sure if ordering pizza from a voice assistant brings joy to your life then stick with the others
The HomePod can send text messages and make calls, the google and Alexa can't. thats the #2 feature I want... #1 is great sound which again homepod wins.
Worth it for the money
Really awesome video guys, hats down! Features and pricing look really great!
FLAC? than means that iTunes will play FLAC? I wait a lot time for that.
yes.
nope! fuck apple appleinsider.com/articles/18/01/24/homepod-quicktime-player-now-support-flac-audio-files-itunes-still-doesnt
Nice video yo‼️ 💯💯
This seems a bit more like a commercial than an independent video.
“It supports ‘Hey, Siri’”... my phone stops playing video and asks me if she can help me with something. Ha!
Mxdanger Gaming If it's loud enough, the sound will bounce back from the walls and into your microphone.
