really looking forward to my dad having a classic ride he can enjoy again. He helped me a lot in high school with mine, but has really never had one of his own!
Growing up on a cotton farm we had a 3 on the tree that was worn out. I found when you lift the lever and pull down into first you also need to lift the lever push up to neutral then drop the lever to align with the shift pin at the bottom of the steering column. Our truck would stay in first and go into second and the truck would just shake and die. Thanks for your past videos they were a big help getting my 289 back up and running.
You might want to change the primary idle feed restrictions to 0.030" so its not too rich. The 0.031 is good for a 327 331 engine. A 0.032 is great for a 351. A 0.033 for a 390. The running out of fuel in the idle circuit is a huge thing. Running rich in the idle circuit is the same. . Please verify the steering coupling is not sliding up the sterring box input shaft. Check the 5/8 and 11/16 wrench size bolt in the bottom of the crossmember to frame rail directly below the steering box. Just a few things that i have run across on many late 60s early 70s ford trucks.
that truck is perfect as it is. I have a '69 f250 with the 300 six and a 4 speed for my barn/garbage truck...it just keeps going, although the floors of the cab and bed have been flintstoned. i like the column shift...can have 3 people on the seat, plus your car thieving crooks won't know how to drive it
I learned how to drive on an F100 tree on the three six-cylinder at 15 years old. Then I moved on to a GMC 1/2 ton manual with a six-cylinder. Loved those old trucks.

They are available on disc, download or in printed form but I personally prefer the printed version. Yes, you can print off pages from data but you have to have a decent printer to do that. It is nice to hear someone else liking smaller cfm carbs. I took off the 750cfm and single plane intake the P.O. had and put on a 500cfm with a dual plane intake. Better drive-ability and better mpg (from 8 mpg to 14 mpg). Nice truck, I have a '66 F100 2wd long bed.
Does your f100 have an FE? I too have a 66 f100 long bed with a 390 (was originally a 352 truck) I have a Holley 750 and have been thinking about putting a smaller carb on for better low to mid range torque and to see how much it would improve mpgs.

I think any guy that over carbs a car is just idiotic. I love your videos, but was really hoping you had installed an AFR gauge on this truck so I could learn from your tuning process. When I put your exact same carb on my 302, it showed lean when I revved it. So I’ve put a larger main jet on, then a bigger main jet squirter, then a bigger power valve. I’m not at all happy with how the AFR dances around. Great video as always! Step by step diagnosis and instruction are always top notch! Couldn't agree more about over carbing your engine. 19:00 "it's like...frustratingly better..." describes most of my e-Tiffany moments wrenching after I've fought something over and over and then figure it out, realizing I was doing something the wrong way (or the hard way) the whole time and if I had just sat down and rubbed a couple of brain cells together, all the headache could've been avoided.
Always say with my three speed on column car you can park in a bad neighborhood leave key in and no one can figure out how to steal it. Great video always the way one thing leads to another Bill in Fort Wayne Indiana
Thanks for making these videos .there is allot of things I've learned from them .I will definitely use pertronix seeing them hold up so well for you .I have wanted to do a carb and standard trans swap on a few of my projects but was always worried about buying expensive junk that would break.i hope they sponsor you .
I drove a '56 Ford with a 3 speed for a long long time. Getting the transmission stuck between gears or (most often) locked in high was a seemingly common occurrence.
Dude, everyone is so odd about fuel - its really not that expensive in the grand scheme of things. Do I think we're being taken for a ride? Yes. Do I want it to change? Yes. But it's not life altering like everyone makes it out to be. I drive a carbed v8 4 speed everyday
Yeah, it's not life altering. Those 11,000 Keystone pipeline workers didn't need their jobs, they can go on government assistance. And all those oilfield workers can do the same. Get yourself one of those $118,000 Tesla's so you don't have to buy any of that expensive petrol 😲

I had a 1970 F100 with a 360 and a 3 on the tree it ran great I drove it for a little over 20 years probably still would be driving it but it was stolen.
Hey man, thanks for always being here to cheer me up and teach me something new. Remind me a lot of my pap in a way. Any chance you if you see this you could look into some sort of Bluetooth clip mic setup . I’m hard of hearing sometimes and have trouble making out everything you say. Other than that your incredible brother. Take care.
Such a great looking Truck ! Going to run great with the 450 Carb
Uncle Luke: Many an eyebrow has been lost to hovering over a carburetor that backfires! Glad your's are intact! 😆
Noting like driving an old truck with a three onna tree. Great to soo you back and healthy Luke!
I'm 50 and remember much older guys than myself putting 650 and 750 cfm carbs on a 302. Riding behind them, I could tell they weren't burning all the fuel the carb was feeding the engine.
Always interesting, informative and educational 🤓👍🏼
Beautiful old ford sound beautiful and love the green
Love your optimism Complain about it first and then be pleasantly surprised.
Nice truck ! Couple observations , rings and necklaces while working on cars , my oldest son lost a finger from wearing a metal ring , please , take your rings off before working on anything if you just have to wear a wedding ring , get a silicone one !
This thing is Defiant but it wants to live and clean too, Good to see another one saved.
Nice rig, great troubleshooting Luke style! What else would one want?
Want to try your hands on an old Thermo-Quad? Id be glad to send mine to you to rebuild. I
have the kit too. Nice video.. Regards from Ody Slim
Great job Luke.
Always say with my three speed on column car you can park in a bad neighborhood leave key in and no one can figure out how to steal it. Great video always the way one thing leads to another
Bill in Fort Wayne Indiana
Luke, you're a carb tuning magician.
That old 302 sounds pretty good.
Great job...interesting to here about the carb and carb tuning!
I wish there were more videos made like this.
Glad to see you back man!
Your necklace dangling over the fan gave me some bad images 😂
I like that color on it.
Like, thanks for the video. As always it was very informative, interesting and fun to watch. Merry Christmas!
The Ford PU 3 speed column I had was prone to linkage issues too.
my 72 Chevy did too just old and worn never got so bad I couldn't drive it.
Dads truck looks amazing, your carb information regarding size is spot on. As per your instructions from last video text sent.
That’s a cool ride Luke. Good luck with it. Great content
Hope you and yours are doing well . Best wishes
With the price of fuel nowadays, maybe you should have put a lawnmower carb on it so you could afford to drive it. 😵
BITCHIN Truck wish the video was longer glad to see you back.
Kevin from Junkyard Digs and Dylan McCool work best with the Ol’ Thunderhead 289. I enjoy watching the best of friends hangin out together and working on cars
