Hey guys thank you all so much for the immense positivity and discussion on this video!
Just wanna be clear on a couple things!
Firstly - I wasn’t complaining about negative comments on my videos, nor was I saying all RUclips reviews should only be positive!
I was trying to explain that I think it’s a problem that so many RUclips channels are poising their audience for a negative perspective on the gear in question. An overall negative complaint-centric outlook in the video.
Anyway, I just think it’d be cool to add a little more positivity into the mix these days!
    That is all ❤

Rabea, human nature is to already be competitive. You have much for people to be envious of brotha! Look at it this way; haters are going hate no matter how gracious you are to them. Maybe through their hate, they’ll remember the gear that you showed and they’ll go write a hit!
      Keep killing it bro!

Don't forget that for one "hater" that impose his opinion, you probably have 100 silent viewers that just enjoys how deep and how greatly you present and play with gears. (quality videos, quality sound, quality content, quality video edit).

So please continue to make great stuff.

I'm only a year deep on YT and passed 3.3K subs. Hang tough Rabea, I can only imagine what you experience with your level. I love your passion and positivity and never change bro. Those that push out negative vibes don't DO. They are hurting and throw out negative vibes. I will keep earning my YT stripes and maybe we can collab one day. We should start a therapy group for YT content music creators. haha. I know I could use some peeps to chat to. This YT game can be a lonely one. I will always stay positive and nothing will change that. Keep going brother. :) Sending positive vibes your way.

I’ve always been a fan of yours! Times changes, and when things turn into a job, it’s time to look at things differently or take a break. I’m a designer and just get burned out sometimes. But yes it’s people like me that need your truth bro! Heck I didn’t even know you were in a badass band until recently lol.
All in all, your health is most important! And you’ve come a long way with that!
And yes everything is negative. Someone could tell me I’m great 500 times in one day, but I’ll only remember the one negative comment.
Social media is the devil, but also a blessing. I own so many amps because of reviewers like you, half I’ve never even played before because then the next video is already out!
Anyway man, here I am watching you when I should be practicing :-)
      Peace and love brother!

Rabea, your style has been “being an open and honest guy, who sends positive vibes and who reviews gear he’s always hyped about”. You make reviews that you turn into amazing songs. You describe it as contextualizing gear, but you make gear shine! Sure, there are some rotten apples in the basket, but don’t let them ruin it for the ones who actually enjoy your video’s and enjoy the gear you review. Sure, I myself don’t like every pedal that you review, but that’s totally fine! Sending love and positive vibes!

I don’t expect much will change as a result of this video, but if one Gear RUclipsr sees it and thinks to be slightly more positive from the outset or at least not poise their viewers for a negative perspective straight away, then that’s something!

Big Round Trip Real Talk Bea,
I went from an ASCAP union card holding, multi-national published touring punk/hardcore artist circa the early 90's to 2000's? To a divorced and failed junky addict. 10 yrs or so ago during that fall? I randomly discovered the Anderton's RUclips channel with you on it, and I legitimately can't thank you enough for the pure inspiration that it gave me. So much that eventually I successfully rose above that darkness and returned to the passions within my musical abilities.
That's no BS mate. I had willfully throw in the towel musically as well as life wise prior to discovering your journey.
      Fast forward to today?
I'm 5 years poison clean, regained custody of my amazing 10 yr old boy, and am typing this right now on an iMac that I rebuilt helming my meager yet competent apartment pocket studio.
Anyone capable of playing four chords, like myself for example, can squat out some opinionated gear review. What YOU DO? Like that freakin mental AF solo you did on Aeromancy?!!! That's something special mate! Legitimately on another planet.
      Cheers!
      ✌🤟🖖

The lines between "product promotion" and "review" have been blured, and that's why people feel lied to and become negative when an obvious paid advert is called a "review". Just a correct use of words would sort out a lot of it

It's the good old GAS combined with desire to own something you can show off with or just copy someone else's sound. My student recently said: “I'll buy a shitload of plugins once I get my first real salary”, and then sent me some tutorial that shows how to get LANDMVRKS tone on a specific plugin he wanted so bad after watching it. We then had a long and somewhat heated discussion about how guitar sound actually works (in short: if you're after a specific tone, get the IR right first, as everything else is of much much less importance to overall sound). A day after, he apologizes for talking nonsense and shares where exactly his thinking was erroneous. But that's a rare occurrence, and this dude is the best learner I ever worked with. Usually people get mad when told truth in the face, and even more so if you have a proof to back up your statements.
As for inspiration… That's a buzzword. The key to “inspiration” is to learn new stuff, not necessarily about music. Music is just a weird but wonderful perception glitch in our brains, and the more fresh neural connections we have, the more melodies come to our mind. I personally find “inspiration” in many things, ranging from lectures on quantum physics to good old bong filled with some ice and weed. Talking to friends, walking around neighborhoods you've never been in before, everything works as creativity boost if you are impressed enough.

Totally agree. Everything is being sold to us and we're hastagging our gear and taking pictures and videos of the gear and basically advertising for these companies for free. But I do agree with Rabea in the sense of there is no need for negative comments. People can have opinions but snipey comments are just lame and lazy.
May be hippiesh but I think as modern musicians we need to go for a walk or read a book then create. Instead we consume content, buy what's sold to us, then make music and repeat.

Rick Beato put it well in his recent video about why RUclipsrs quit: if a commentator says something negative, it's about themselves; if they say something positive, it's about themselves.

Good point about confirmation bias, so much of public discourse is people seeking validation for preconceived views or projecting their own negativity onto others, rather than open-minded discussion and learning. Other cognitive and statistical biases possibly exaggerate the perceived negativity as well. Maybe it's partially a symptom of content creators focusing on brand promotion / views rather than two-way viewer engagement? Your channel has always stood out as refreshingly genuine and personable, and it speaks volumes that you care enough to make a video about something like this.

The negativity has had affect on myself and my own output and recently just made a bit of a return after taking about a year to consider if I'd ever want to come back. I think we're dealing with the worst case of global burnout we've ever had. The last 10 years have been a constant stream of catastrophic headlines, doom, we're all tired, we're all poorer, and the reality is is we can't really do anything. We can't make groceries less expensive. We can't gut and replace our politicians. We can't stop Qanon. We can't stop whatever else scares you. This negativity is permeating everything and subconsciously I think we're REALLY saying holy shit the world is freaking me out but it's coming out as "this successful thing someone else did is trash because I don't like it and I'm not in control of my life."

Being a Gen X-er I am doing this later in life. I took a break from my mid 20's to early 30's and enlisted/served in the military. Upon coming home I enrolled in a school to learn audio production. I got my BFA in audio production but life got in the way, then I suffered a TBI and partial amnesia. Fast forward 10 years I have only recently started learning again with a new, unbiased outlook. I share in your logic that there is no "perfect" anything out there. Practicing Nichirin Buddhism for nearly 4 years now I am grateful for the "good enough" and I agree that looking at the positive rather than sinking into that skeptical space about things is paramount for musicians! Thank you for refreshing that for me. I hope your message reaches others and acts as a wake up call. Dude you're golden. Appreciate you very much. And I'll tell you this: If I never see you (or any other person with a large following) ignoring the comments and staying out of it, I would totally understand. I'd hate to see you stop doing what you're doing and don't think that's necessary. But if you want to keep yourself out of the insanity of the comments...who can blame you? That's what I do now except for rare moments like this. Keep on, brother. And launch that f'king guitar already! My wallet is out!

Rabea, love your work and feedback. Everyone seems to be a critic these days, see it at work, see on TV, see it on internet. So much division on every little thing. Even in my music circle, there is strong opinions that rob people of growth. Recently, we added a song to play in next gig and one member refused to play it and the song ended up being one of the toughest things we are playing and i learned a ton. No, I didn't like the song, but the journey was amazing with learning song at level 1 and progressing to level 3. Well, i like the video and appreciate you taking the time to ask people to have a bit of self awareness . Think we all have probably had our debbie downer moments, though let's not live life that way. Ty for all the great content you create!!!

I have benefited tremendously from many of my favorite musical RUclipsrs. You guys have helped me in defining a sound I genuinely like for myself. So you guys just keep being creative and make what you want. Let the haters hate. They make you famous anyway.

Your reviews have been my go to, for as long as I've known you. You tell people about what the piece of gear you're reviewing is capable of, instead of pointing out the shortcomings of it. Guess what, a lot of brands aim for versatility to attract a larger consumer base, and focusing on the capabilities of something usually ends up being a better practice mentally.
I think you are great at what you do and you should keep doing it, and block the noise as much as you can.

I don't ever comment on RUclips videos and very rarely ever read them, but felt compelled to encourage you as a kind of "thank you." As others have said, I am also thankful for your positivity and really resonate with you as an artist. I think we are truly blessed to be guitarists in our day as we are completely spoiled for choice with such a diverse palette of sonic color and I appreciate your advice and opinions. You seem to demo gear that make potentially good song making tools and not just sounds (don't think you did a Fart pedal, yet). You also give 100% with integrity and it is obvious to me. That is what makes your gear videos so helpful and inspiring. I don't know anyone else who has made 4 EPs/albums on demo videos (that is amazing by itself!). So, please don't shut up 😊, but please keep cranking out more and more riffs and tunes 🎸

I started following you because you seemed like a really cool guy, you were an amazing player and you always seemed to get the most out of any piece of gear you played or reviewed. These are still the reasons why i watch you 😊. Nowadays, everyone is an “expert” but very few have any music or video themselves to back up their negative criticisms…they’re just armchair quarterbacks. I for one am always excited at the possibilities of what this amazing gear we have these days can do and will continue to support positive fellows like you. Keep doing you and leave the keyboard warriors to their misery 😎

There was a sense of ‘why would you use this?’ and I saw how excited you were to use it!You said it saved time finding noises, and simplified the process of creation. Even venue was an indicator of which equipment to employ. I think if players are narrowing or limiting their gear, such as strictly Marshal w/ Gibson, they leave some meat on the bone so to speak. Looking forward to the release of your new music which you’ve obviously worked very hard to complete 👍🏻

Theres so many options thwae days to be abme roncater to oretty much everybody, unfortunately sole dont do enough research and can blindly buy equipment only to not lole it because it doesnt do what they want it to. I get in those modes sometimes, I feel mine comes from lack of music gear. I have just been getting ideas out with an acoustic guitar and Bandlab on my phone. My frustration comes from wanting to play drums, a 7 string, a 5 string bass, a cello or violin, and just not having one.
That aside, I'm happy with the ideas I have made, and they're excellent for building on or coming back to with the missing pieces.
I will say, however, that I have loved just about if not everything you have shared on RUclips. I absolutely appreciate your style, and it definitely inspires some of what I do. I love the ambiance and the unique heavy chord usage. Love it!!

In my opinion, the problem is, that much more people are or get aware of the marketing scams so many manufacturers have done over the years. I think about this myself "why buy a boss XX when I can buy a behringer clon with a pretty similar sound" although I can say that there are still many manufacturers with unique gear (DBA fe). But you are totally right, even if I can rebuild any sound on a budget with the right tools, its much more pleasant to get it right away with an expensive "original".
I think this is still a positive development. We will see a lot of changes in the industry because of this and I am thrilled to see it...

I often find myself looking at your delay and reverb things, because they are alot in the same area where i enjoy being musically!

I've followed you ever since Rob Chapman and Anderton's introduced me to you via videos here on RUclips. You have always been (and continue to be) a force for good in this world. Your positive outlook and excellent playing are inspiring.
I understand all too well how easy it is to be disheartened by the negativity in the world, amplified and shared for all (or too many, anyway) to see via platforms like RUclips and other social media.
I haven't always enjoyed every thing you put out (I prefer your ambient leanings to the harder stuff), but I know you're being true to yourself, and I couldn't ask for anything more. OK, maybe I could ask for more ambient tunes? Long, dreamy things? But I digress.
