Yes, Leo and Kimba are one and the same. See, there were two anime series about this white lion. The first one was about him as a cub, and the second one about him as an adult, and a father. His name was always Leo in the original Japanese version, but in the English version, specifically the first series where he was a cub, his name was changed to Kimba. In the second series where he's an adult, his name was changed back to Leo again in the English version. Probably because 'Kimba' sounded too childish to be the name of an adult Lion.
The version of this that I watched was much better. In this one the old man sounds like a teen boy and the young boy sounded like a grown man trying to sound like a young boy.
The adult white lion you see is Kimba; however, they reverted back to his Japanese name, Leo, for this series. This is a sequel to the original Kimba the White Lion, showing Leo's (Kimba's) adult life with his mate and children.

Actually there is reason to believe that Lions at one time lived in many various areas in the past then they do now. Scientist have found evidence that Lions lived on other continents and certain other countries besides Africa such as India, China, and certian areas in Europe but went extinct due to people hunting them down and being used in many cruel sports and rituals.
I just love family friendly movies, real-life and animated. We need more of these to be able to watch, what with all of the others that we see now, we have it hard to find such positive shows.
How come the other animals (Lea especially) don't talk in human? Didn't Kimba teach them, or was that just him who learned how to speak the human language?
