I love the wisdom you guys bring to prepping. Thanks for sharing! Such a sweet couple! How to use the potatoes....add to soup for calories or substance, Shepard pie, mashed with steak, fried chicken, Salisbury steak, meatballs, or other. Make potato bread. Hope that helps!
Oxygen absorbers and desiccants are so inexpensive, I use them in everything (except sugars and salt) packaged for storage, even vacuumed sealed goods. We run a dehumidifier almost constantly. Our basement has three separate areas (1895 dungeon style - haha) so it can be a pain moving the unit around. Worth it. The slightly "off" potato flakes might make good potato pancakes: add garlic/onion powder, and chopped green onions. Or for Shepherd's pie? Again, you can add spices and herbs to mitigate the different taste. That was an awesome comparison test! Thank you.
I would use up the less tasty potato flakes in sourdough bread. I bake bread a couple times a week. I put leftover rice, oatmeal, cauliflower or zucchini in bread. I add about a cup to the dough to make a 12 inch pizza crust.
I love that you made this a learning and teaching opportunity! It’s such an important difference. A little oxidation here, a little oxidation there … best to avoid it as much as possible. Wishing you all well! 🙏❤️
Potato leek or onion soup; gluten free potato bread (dinner rolls, cinnamon rolls, etc); breading or crust for fish fillets; ingredient in mix for lentil, fish or veggie patties. SO glad to have found organic potato flakes that are instant and delicious! They add a very satisfying taste and … I don’t know … dimension? … to an otherwise restricted diet. I tell myself that using them as one ingredient in a mixture with other vegetables and fibers is a good way to have my potato with less effect on insulin / blood sugar. I’m being asked to make a (from scratch) chocolate cake right now. That’s a great opportunity for my next potato flakes experiment! 😂🙏❤️
make potato bread, i.e. potato flakes, cold water, salt and a little flour, roll out thinly and bake in a hot oven until the surface takes on color, brush with butter
I make fried chicken in the oven with potato flakes. I dip the chicken without skin in butter, then roll it in potato flakes and roast the chicken in the oven for maybe 45 minutes. 0:06
Were the potato flakes used in both cans identical? Can you verify this information? If they weren't, then there could be differences in the quality and therefore the smell and taste. Thanks!
Crap!! Now we have to re-do our potatoes, we have them in Mylar bags, but we didn't use an oxygen thingy lol.... to be honest, I've not had good luck using them.

You are so kind! Thanks.

I love fried potato patties for breakfast and mashed potatos as a base for meatloaf&gravy. Another useful and practical vid. Tks for sharing.
Great video on oxygen absorbers. Thank you
Very cool experiment! Thank you for making this video!
Thank you! 🙏❤️🙏
Ha! Yes, you two have a lot of potatoes to cook! 😄 Make some shepherd's pies. You can then freeze some batches for later. Thanks for the lesson!

I love any casserole tipped with mashed potatoes or chicken noodle stew over mashed potatoes.
Potato flakes can be used to thicken and sauce and to add done quick energy calories.

When we freeze dry our own food, sometimes the O2 absorbers shrink the bag down and other times it doesn’t. Never know if they are working or not.
It can be tricky to tell! I oversize them a lot.
It would be interesting to see the nutrient differences
Sheppard pie 🥧.
Interesting test!

We use instant potatoes in our cinnamon rolls. Thanks for doing this experiment. I’ve always wondered how necessary O2 absorbers were.
Make some potato patty waffles with the good can, give the non O2 absorber can go the chickens/animals.
Very interesting experiment. Hopefully neither of you ended up with the hot poops afterwards. Thank you for sharing!
Both of us are good :)
It's interesting how oxygen can degrade food without even realizing it
Make potato cakes with sage
Shepherd’s pie!!!
Thanks for taking the risk !
Were the potato flakes used in both cans identical? Can you verify this information? If they weren't, then there could be differences in the quality and therefore the smell and taste. Thanks!
Possible but they used the same brand for years. Great point!
Vacuum seal in jars instant potatoes and nonfat milk do I need to use those no access to shop online to buy them you can't find them in the store
Crap!! Now we have to re-do our potatoes, we have them in Mylar bags, but we didn't use an oxygen thingy lol.... to be honest, I've not had good luck using them.
Tell me about not having good luck. I'd love to help troubleshoot it so that it works for you. theprovidentprepper.org/contact-us/
Why would you NOT just throw in an absorber. It's by far the least expensive piece of all of this.
I use instant potatoes to thicken soups and stews. 🥣
