Retro camping gear... The perfect excuse to buy the all gear you already have all over again.. I'll tell the wife its shabby chic and I'm golden!! Cheers Chris! T🙂
I still have a Camping gaz double burner and grill from the 70s,last summer during lockdown,i made an outdoor kitchen from cement board (hardie backer)to fit it, which i painted. We have cookouts with a large griddle pan, which we prefer over the faff of barbecues, and its all easy to clean. Also have an old Camping gaz burner that takes c200 cartriges, the sealing washer is still safe, and has been at 42 TT races visits.
What an absolute find! I too remember going camping with my dad.... and the smell when that thing got light in the morning and you knew sausage, beans and toast was on the way. I get that memory every time I light a stove. Great vid Chris!
Great stove, I also had one, as I was a saleman for Calor Gas at the time selling Camping Gaz , Primus, & Bullfinch, all great kit, but not really packer friendly. Keep finding, buying and showing please. Steve.
It does go back to the seventies or maybe earlier, i remember using it on holiday in the early 70s, as a kid. I’ve got my dad’s, the box is a bit rusted, but the stove is near perfect, it’s good to see what should be inside, I’ll have to check what’s in mine. Not sure if mine has a leather belt to keep it shut. I want to get one of the old brass pump up paraffin stoves, we never had one as a kid, but they just look so cool, the sort of thing that would cost a fortune to buy nowadays. There seem to be a lot of them out there. I think. There still a camping gaz light kicking about somewhere, also one of the gas heaters, with a satellite dish shape heater bit that fits on a gas bottle. A lot of people kept that sort of thing- cooker, heater and lighting, because of the electricity strikes and power cuts in the 1970s, in Britain. I also remember we had a cupboard full of tinned food (as did my grandma) for emergency use- I suppose, nowadays, it would be called “prepping”, back then, it was just called “common sense” 🤣😂😁!
Thanks Mat, it's a legendary stove - I love it, although have yet to make a brew with it. I too remember the lamps and of course the heaters which look like an add on to the international space station! ATB
Haha I love how excited you got there!! I was seriously waiting for it to blow up! It has clearly never been used that, sat in a warehouse unsold! Well done and great find!
Love the video, and that camping stove is in mint condition!! Better than my new MSR stove look forward to next video 👍🏻All the best James (The_Lake_District)
mine (from my grandfather, and he died in '77!) is similar, but mine has a leather handle on top of the box. Mine also has a silver section on the folded down base that the stove clamps/slides into. My stove body has a round shape, without the recesses in yours. I suspect mine is a bit older than yours. It has seen more use, too, and has a touch of light rust on the tin. The butane cartridges are still available (I got 6 for £12 from Amazon last Autumn), but the propane/butane mix ones seem to have disappeared from sale. On butane, when the temperature is down to about 5 C or so, the stove starts up with a rather weedy flame, but reflected heat from the case and the pan seems to warm the cartridge a bit, and the flame markedly improves after a bit (maybe 5 mins). Room in the case for the stove and a pair of spare gas cartridges (obviously take out the spares before using the stove! - mine has that on a little paper instruction sheet rather than printed inside the tin).
WOW. That is mint indeed, also brought many memories back for me too. If you are going to make a vintage camping trip with all the gear, hire or borrow a typical 1970's car to get there in lol. Austin allagro maybe?
I've just been gifted one, I think it may be an older model, as it has a leather carry handle, but it had the original gas cylinders with it.Its lovely.
That's a very nice stove I bought one just like it on eBay but I need the fuel tank adapter And I can't seem to find the Write one for this older fuel canister
No I’m with you on this mate, this stove is such a noticeable and just simply gorgeous looking stove and the condition is frighteningly picture bloody perfect! That sound when she lit up 😱. Absolute bargain mate 👍 #Writeyourownadventure
Lovely old stove that brings back memories for me too. But be careful, the little black rubber that seals onto the gas canister can perish over time, can leak gas and can be a bit dangerous - so just check the rubber seal when you can. You really should have made a brew on its first firing!
@@MCMOutdoors wow that's a good price there is one in ormskirk that is on Ebay...it ends tomorrow it's up to a fiver..I am going to try and buy it with a gas can aswell..wish me luck..I will let you know how I get on...Mike.
Christmas come early. what a great little find.
Got lucky with it mate !
Wow. My first stove at 15 or 16 years old was very similar to this. I'm 57 now so it brought back a lot of memories for me to watch this. Thanks.
No problem 😊👍

Thank you. Always worth keeping an eye out on eBay.
That was brilliant Chris and what a find! Smiling my arse off through the entire vid😊 Good feature Chris👍
Thabks mate, not a bad find.
Thanks for sharing this. So nostalgic. We went camping, my father and I 40 odd years ago
Cheers Dessie. Look forward to using this on a camp.

Thanks mate, yeah it brought back some good memories.
Is that thing underneath (silver) for cleaning out the jet. Great stove and a top model. Now go out and buy the old film 'Carry on Camping'
Maybe mate, I need to have a better look. Please to find a decent example! Haha 😂

I'll be keeping my eyes out after Christmas mate 👍
That's in better condition than the one I bought new back in the day, and yes, the silver thing is a "pricker" for cleaning out blocked jets! Dad 👍
Classic isn't it. I didn't know what the silver thing was. One to take on a fishing trip in Wales 🎣😊
