Emotiva sounds bright to me with no richness or bottom. The Denon sounds richer and fuller to me especially the natural bass where Emotiva's bass sounded artificial. I saw another RUclips comparison of the Emotiva TA100 vs the Marantz 6007 and to my ears the Marantz won handily.

Hello Sir, Today I bought Denon PMA 600E and so happy with its sound quality and the details.
But when listen and compare with Yamaha n602 Denon is bit bassy for my taste.
I guess I like neutral sound of yamaha and onkyo.
One thing I learned Integrated AMPs produce better sound quality than AVR (even if you set Centre and Surround to none and use straight or pure direct.)
Sorry couldnt use your link to support cause I am in India.
Thanking you from bottom of my heart.

Even with its weaknesses, I love my TA100. I haven’t had a problem with batteries dying in the remote. Once you get it dialed in, you don’t need to adjust it much. I had a Sony STRDH190. I bought the TA100. I wanted to know if I made the right choice. I picked “Rubber Soul” as a tester. I put on “What Goes On” at the beginning of side 2. I picked it because it’s super plucky. Love plucky. Dropped Rubber Soul on my ProJect Debut Carbon with the Ortofon Red. The Sony sounded great. The Emotiva however, made the song come alive. George’s rockabillly guitar and Ringo’s shuffle just jumped out. I’ve had it for five years now and I still love it.

Another thing about cost with big established audio companies like many other types of companies is that they have set margin percentages. Example, a company sets its products to meet a 25% profit standard as a rule for them to project a profit growth for the quarter or upcoming year. (Just to throw out a random percentage number). To meet that criteria to their shareholders or owners they cut corners and/or boost prices. Smaller companies are not held or tied to a set standard and have the flexibility to navigated outside these constraints although if they are not careful they can end up losing more money to what they make. But that’s the beauty of smaller independent companies. They are still affordable and give you more value for the money.

That's exactly why I got the Denon; to be used for my turntable. I'm still loving it but watching these types of vids doesn't help lol. Best to subscribe and learn more about the audiophile world. 6:28 The Denon has better Caps, This comes from an Audio DIY Hobbyist..... Also the Type H transformer used, is of a good quality.... The components used, Ceramic resistors etc... Are on par with WIMA or better... The DAC Section is a reference design, not the best..... It also uses a Motorized Analog Potentiometer instead of the Emotiva digital one.... All in all, the Denon is highly built..... For me the experience was different.... Emotiva sounded boring.... A bit 2D.... The Denon sounds fine with the internal dac, but I have it paired with a DIY R2R DAC.... And it just sounds really good.... Different timbre, great power, separation etc.... I guess the review wasn't done with a great source etc.... Also, the Warmer sound of the Denon, needs a more Transparent or Brighter sounding Speaker like B&W or Kef etc... For great Synergy... The only thing I hate about it, is the Traditional Stereo built.... Kinda looks like those generic stereos.... I'm used more to the Aluminum builds etc..... Anyways love the videos man.... 😃

My biggest problem with the Denon is the tone controls are not remote adjustable despite that HUGE remote control. I also felt the TA-100 bested the PMA600NE. Unless someone prefers the rolled off top end and thick/slow bass of the denon the emotiva is the better option.

TA-100 owner comments here… Likes… it has the MM and MC phono stage build in, that’s an unusual treat for receiver. Ample of power to push plenty of spkrs and add a A-300 you are just about set for the most demanding gear for audiophile that are budget conscious. Dislikes, the dongle blue tooth is a bit unnecessary, there are plenty of blue tooth DAC combo out for AUX input if they decided not to build one in. Support one pair of speaker instead of 2 pairs even though they did make up for the power.
Observation…. Seems like A-300 is not available and sold out and that’s about a few months already
Looks is very industrial if you are into the style. Very solid built.
Phono stage is on par with the Marantz with MC cartridge support. Grounding improve by hooking it up yo the power outlet ground directly while the Marantz don’t have to.
Sound is technical precise so it reviews a lot on the input source especially the phono cartridge

Went to Fry's a couple months ago. Looked like it'd been turned into a set for The Walking Dead. There were more employees than customers, and there were hardly any employees. Most of the employees that were there seemed aimless and bewildered as if management hadn't been there in months but everyone kept coming to work anyway. A lot of the lights were turned off. The shelves in most sections were either bare or in a state of extreme disarray. There were office chairs scattered out in the aisles in a few spots around the store. There were some people sitting in the cafe section, but they weren't employees. The cafe was unstaffed. The people in the cafe didn't even seem like they were doing anything in there, just sitting. They weren't reading, eating, visiting. They were just... there. Left with an uncomfortable bleak sensation, like I'd just watched Children of Men after attending a funeral.

Randy, I am in the market, really, for a preamp (I have a great B&K 200 wpc amp) with tone controls, at least one analog input (phono), and ideally at least two digital inputs with a good built-in DAC, but there does not seem to be anything out there under $1500 and I'd like to keep it below $750. Separately, or internally, I will need a streamer and a DAC to use with my CD transport. The Emotiva seems to tick off all those boxes, in the form of a receiver/integrated amp. I don't really need built-in NAS and it seems like your suggestion of using a better dedicated unit is the way to go regardless. What are your thoughts or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    • @cheapaudioman
      @cheapaudioman  4 года назад +3

The TA-100 is really fantastic. Bear in mind, the tone controls take a bit of getting used to and the remote is abysmal but operational. Two sub outs, a decent if not good dac, and a good phono stage. I have yet to work with a streamer I like. Personally, I'd use an LDAC BT receiver until streamers get their act together. They have a decent return policy but you have to pay shipping back. Wouldn't be horrible though. They also have a dedicated preamp as well but I have no time with it.

Think there are few ways. I believe that both the sub outs on the back are summed channels per the manual. So you could go single coax from the ta to the single LFE connection on the sub. If the sub doesn’t have a single LFE connection then you could do single to double on the sub or double to double but both the outs on the TA-100 are a summed two channel to support two subs. So to answer your question any of the ways you discussed.

Thanks for the video. I looking for a good budget amp to run a pair of Klipsch 6000's. Right now I have a pair of Klipsch 51pm which are 60 watts per channel but just are not loud enough with the phono as the source. Do you know if this would be louder and still have good sound quality? Thanks

Hey man. Been watching your vids for awhile. Really nice reviews dude keep it up!!
Do have a question for ya tho as I’m bout to pull the trigger on an emotiva setup for some elac debut 2.0 b6.2 bookshelves. I was going to get the PT-100/A-300 pair but then I stumbled upon this. Wasn’t sure if sub 70rms to those speakers would work nicely as everybody says they’re power hungry. But itd be a $300 discount. What are your thoughts on that? Thanks!

    • @cheapaudioman
      @cheapaudioman  3 года назад +2

I don't think the Denon would have any issue powering the elacs. the denon is also a very lush amp and with great controls. I always lean towards emotiva if you're in the states or canada because you have the option to upgrate later down the road. You can also get the TA-100 when it comes back into stock and it will power everything just find and then add the a300 later because the ta-100 has preamp outs. they both sound great though

Okay going to run my Fluance RT85 (Ortofon Blue) into an Emotiva TA-100 out to the Emotiva Basx A300 pushing two Bose 301 Series V. Torn on weather to get an external bluetooth dongle for streaming or the Wiim or the other one you mentioned recently . I use Tidal highest level sub. Any ideas on which would offer best quality im open for suggestions :) Thanks again for your content sir i did end up finding a video where you had both of these Emotiva items together and that was a super huge help!

Is the t-100 enough to power emotiva airmotiv t1+ i wanna start with t 100 cause it’s like $150 cheaper than iota vx sa 3. I like everything from nine inch nails to nas electronic like Aphex twin as well. Would the t 100 and a pair of airmotiv t1 + be a good $1100 start? Or should I go with different speaker?

Second this. I did just get the TA 100 and having a hard time hearing that it is better than my 7 year old Yamaha AV receiver. Plus the old one has an equalizer and a cross over that keeps low frequencies out of my new Elac Uni Fi 2.0. Thank you for that recommendation, I used your link.

The PMA 600NE uses Elna for audio filtering capacitors and ELNA Silmic ii, both are very good audio capacitors. What brand are the capacitors it the Emotiva? It s audiophile myth that toroidal transformers sounds always better than EI cores. It s not true.

    Two things about the ta-100.
    1. The Bluetooth adapter won’t play as loud as the coax and optical inputs.
    2. When turn on and the volume knob is at 1/4 or more, you’ll hear a big bump from speakers., caused by raw power coming from the amp.
The rest, like remote, radio tuning, etc. Don’t matter that much to me cause I’m very satisfied with its performance.

"Not as easy to do so" is a big understatement. I have both the Denon 600 and the Emo preamp PT-100 (same but no power amp). The Denon is a joy to operate and use. The controls and the remote are straightforward. The Emo menu system is a [professional lady of the evening's] nightmare. I defy you to use the remote for anything but volume, if you cannot read the display from your easy chair. (I defy *myself* to use the Emo remote, or the front panel, without getting a bunch wrong.) "Oops, that isn't right... how do I get back, oops, that's wrong, could I start again... I just want to turn down the goddam treble a bit..."
My Denon isn't quite powerful enough to drive my music/living room, which is open and big. I use the Emo PT and the BasX A-300, and power is the reason. The Denon is for sale. I suffer along with the Emotiva's arcane 1980's layered, inscrutable menus. I had hoped they would improve it with the new PT-1, but no joy. Apparently, knobs are too costly for Emotiva.
But for controls, there's not much better than the Denon 600's front panel and its remote.

    Could be worse.
When I was in radio it sometimes would take 30 -45- sometimes 60 minutes to get a 30 second add for some stupid confectionary just right. Then you get stuck on one stupid word. Funny, pick a word, any word, say it 15 or 20 times and then it never sounds right.
I was immediately reminded of the Goddo album "Who Cares " and the song ' Drop dead that's who'. At the start there's a voice that says " Take 75".
    3 takes, that's nothin.
P.S. the kids in the background lend an air of authenticity. It's Covid days, we can handle that sh-t.
