  • A brief guide to the different Type-C cables in the 3, 5 and 6 series of Ankers excellent cable range.
    Like I say in the overview I do try cheap no name cables but they usually let me down after 6 months. You pay your money and you take your chances. With Anker I have stuff that 8 years old and still works.

    My only thing I would change about what you said, is when you kept comparing them to cheap cables, I agree with what you say, but I think you should have said cheaply made cables, there's plenty of companies, especially a fruit company that sells expensive cables, that are very cheaply made, so you pay the premium price, but get a cheap cable that has the problems you mentioned.
    Also the big price difference between the 6 foot and 3 foot cables comes down to how they are rated, cables are end to end rated, so a longer cable needs thinker wire to meet the same requirements as a short one, it's not just a matter of twice the cable, it's also thicker cable. Then to get the flexibility people want they have to reduce the strand size and increase number of strands, that way they can increase the mm2 of cable and keep the flexibility of the smaller 3 foot cable.
    So there is certainly a lot more going into a bigger cable, probably not enough to justify the price difference they change, but lots of that is down to volume, more you sell the cheaper it gets, and they would sell a lot more 3 foot than 6 foot cables

      Yes good point. I even noticed that with a few cables from other well known brands and the cables were really poor. I will say cables from One plus were really nice and thick I'm guessing that's because they are 'dash charge' so thicker. Excellent points mate il pin your comment to the top.

    Love Anker been using them for years, will only use Anker when it comes to chargers, cables and power banks. Bought a cheap cable from Wilko's once, broke within a week, ordered an Anker cable and haven't looked back since.

    • @TrailTrek
      @TrailTrek  Год назад +3

      Same here I've tried ones from pound shop (broke after maybe 3 weeks) tried ones by all manner of random names off amazon (they end up where they stop charging or you have to wiggle them to make them pickup on a pc etc.) I can say after years of carrying cables daily in pockets and bags in all weathers that the anker ones last, I hate they they cost much more but its not worth the cheap ones for the annoyance I have to deal with when I use them. One of the worst was a Blitzwolf premium cable that must have ended up with a poor connection inside, if it was at the wrong angle and I was using it to charge a phone or something on the pc I was plagued with that stupid USB connection bing bong sound every 30 seconds I threw it away and felt much better.

    I see the vid. I click on it. I see TrailTrek talking about "Brand" USB cables that last. I say to myself "What is he talking about... the only times a cable breaks is when I twist and bend it a lot".
    I reach 3 min into the vid... and I'm ..."Ah yes, that's what doesn't happen with these".

    • @TrailTrek
      @TrailTrek  Год назад +2

      Yes that's the only time mine go bad and these have a decent warranty and bent cycles to them. All good so far :-) What branmds do you use? I was using crap ones off amazon and also some Blitzwolf for the high speed ones they do.

    • @Thrael72008
      @Thrael72008 Год назад +1

      @@TrailTrek Not gonna lie... crap ones from anywhere I can find. Beside the ones I got from known brand smartphones, I ended up with a lot of cables since I got into flashlights.
      I don't joke about specs though. I had huge problems with my PC some years ago because of faulty motherboard cables. It's not just a wire and rubber.
      I trust Baseus and I see Anker as a decent brand. Last month I received an order from Wurkkos and they sent me a thick USB-C-to-C cable (as a gift) that's rated for 5Amps. I seriously doubt it compared to the Baseus one.

  • @F0XD1E
    @F0XD1E 2 месяца назад

    Good comparison. I do like Anker cables and usually do buy them. I wish they made short right angle cables specifically for android auto. The cheapo ones I have to buy in that form factor don't last very long, but I don't want a long cable in my car.
    I find that the most important factor to cable longevity is not necessarily the brand, but just being nice to the cable. I almost never handle my phone while it's plugged in. The first USB C cable I ever bought was from iorange, which is a good cable, but it's lasted me something like 10 years of daily use just because I don't torque or yank on it. Other people that sit there with their phone plugged in and toss it around and fall asleep on it while it's plugged in will burn through cables no matter the quality.

    Bit late, hadn't noticed. Anker do have great customer support, I had an issue with a cable and they sent me a premier one in it's own leather case as a replacement. Do love a braded cable. Have been using INIU for cheaper ones. Oh if you could do a comparison between GaN and normal chargers I'd be well interested.

    • @TrailTrek
      @TrailTrek  Год назад +2

      Gan ones are virtually the same to be honest. All they use it for is so they can have high amp but lower physical size. So gallium nitride helps them to have less bulky charge adaptors. Even the cheaper manufacturers are using it now so on the cheap sites you can pick up some good deals on gan chargers.

    Thank you for reviewing these for us. Can I know PowerLine II USB-C to USB 3.1 Gen 2 cable is good for charging iPhone 15Pro using a 5W brick?

  • @Camrographer

    Think one should get the 240watt cable just to future proof one's self?
    What do you think of that silicone material you believe it will hold up? Also I wonder if they will get all nasty looking after a while.

    • @TrailTrek
      @TrailTrek  10 месяцев назад +2

      Its a good point i used to have a low watt wall adapter then i got a 65watt one now i see a 100watt for a reasonable price and the wattage keeps climbing over time.
      The material feels extremely soft and supple which I like but i do also like braided wires as they feel like they will last longer and have less kinking and crushing. But so far these are good and if they get marks and dirt on them a wet cloth brings them up nice.

    How are these 3 cables holding up so far? Any wear?

    • @TrailTrek
      @TrailTrek  Год назад +3

      Very good so far one in the car still perfect and the purple one is still soft and supple. Quality wise I'm very happy so far, and no silly issues with intermittent connections when using Android auto in the car. I can't fault anything on them at all so far. As usual Anker has not let me down.

    Hello, one quick question please
    I have an audio interface USB 2.0 type c - c
    It requires a cable that supports data transfer. I was shopping for Anker cable and there are like 100s of options which made me totally lost. Any recommendations please 😊

      Cheers 👍. I tend to review a lot of flashlights so people want to see them very close up rather than see the standard review, where it's some bloke with a baseball cap on holding the items being talked about. I try to keep the reviews about the item rather than my daft face 😂. Thanks for the kind comment and have a great day. If I can help with any questions just give me a shout.

    Would these both work with a Apple device ?

    • @TrailTrek
      @TrailTrek  Год назад +1

      Until apple update to using type-c I would say look at the specific apple style connectors here: www.anker.com/uk/collections/for-iphone-lightning
      Double check before buying any cables that it states it is a lightening style apple one.
      Hope that helps mate.

    • @TrailTrek
      @TrailTrek  Год назад +1

      Hi yes the type-c ones will work, bear in mind the fastest that the Samsung will do is USB 3.2 gen 2 so a 10 gbps so you should go for the ones with the fastest data speed not the fastest charging speed. I hope that helps mate.
