I had no idea after owning mine for ten years, that it had a spark arrestor. It had been running very poorly and after dinking around with it I saw your video. Popped out the arrestor, cleaned it and it is as good as new! Thanks for pointing it out! Saved me a bunch of money!
You’re welcome! Glad I could help
Take it out ...all tools have them..remove it.if exhaust gets dirty after real long time soak in gas or cleaner ..
same here! Cleaning that spark arrestor got me going again.
Awesome step by step video! I picked one up at a garage sale for free, lady said it didn’t work.
I ordered the kit and was able to follow the steps in the video with no experience. I now have a working leaf blower!
Excellent step-by-step, clear video, great explanation, no music. Thumbs up!
This is literally a perfect video! No goofy intro and flying logo. Every word is helpful. I ordered the HIPA kit from your lamp. Wouldn't start before, afterwards it started on the first pull!
I did run into a small challenge. The spring that actuates the throttle return was not properly mounted and so when you pulled the trigger the spring didn't activate. The spring on the bottom of the carburetor assembly wasn't connected properly to the arm. I used needle nose pliers to pull it around and hook it on the notch in the lever.
My BG55 is going to be the death of me. Without exaggerating, I've had to pull the cord between 50-75x at least to get it started then have to fiddle-fart with the trigger hoping it doesn't stall. Hopefully the HIPA kit will solve my problem. Thanks for a clear, concise video! Well done in every respect!
Amazingly clear, very well presented!!! Thank you, I had a badly clogged exhaust spark arrester. Ordered a new one, but just for the heck of it cleaned the old clogged one with gasoline and a soft nylon brush....and bingo!!! Works as new!!
You can put the screen portion of spark arrestor in the flame of a propane torch and burn the residue off. I get it red-hot, then brush it with a bronze or SS brush.
Well done. To the point. short and sweet. Interesting shop I must say.
Thank you . It’s how I draw the inspiration for the furniture pieces I build
Hi Kyle. I ran into a similar problem yesterday when my Stihl BG55 blower failed to start. It ran great on Thursday, but spews fuel out the exhaust now. Got spark (tried 2 different plugs and 2 different spark-indicator cables), lots (too much fuel), but no go. I run it without the spark arrestor. I use ethanol-free gasoline with Red Armor oil. Why would the blower just die with no previous symptoms?
Same thing just happened to me with my bg 65c... only thing I haven't done is take carb off and clean it
@@lukehodgson5222 I ordered carb rebuilt kit AND new HIPA carb off of Amazon. If kit works, I will return carb. I would rather have a rebuilt original than Chinese knock-off.
Nice, very clear video. I have not put the new carburettor in yet but before I do I want to note that I can’t get any gas to the spark plug. I pulled it and it is bone dry. On my first try starting, it ran for a few secs at high rev and then died. I replaced the primer bulb, but the bulb won’t even fill up with fuel although there is plenty in the tank so something is stopping the fuel from getting that far
I think the tank is not able to vent. Also the primer bulb will not reinflating after I push it in. I’m thinking I have to replace the lines and probably the filter in the tank and also the vent to the tech. I’ve ordered the parts to do that. What do you think of my idea any suggestions you have would be helpful and appreciated. Thank you
By the way, the first thing I did, was check the spark arrestor and make sure that was clear so that could be the problem
Sounds like you need new gas lines
@@KyleHallwoodworker I checked the gas lines and they were fine, so I left them in and replaced just a fuel filter period nothing helped so I finally went ahead and put on the new carburettor. Everything is great now
I changed the arrestor, spark plug, air filter, fuel filter and it still bogs down and cuts off when I pull the throttle. Does that mean the carb needs to be replaced??
i was given one of these for free while i was out working one day. it would run for a few seconds on choke then stall out. i just installed the hipa kit using your video and it runs great now! thanks for the information
Glad I could help
you're not supposed to run it with the choke on. that was your problem. O.o
Great video
When I push the primer bulb it will whistle and no gas comes up. I changed the bulb but still does the same thing. What should I do next?
Gas lines could be the problem,
I put a new carburetor on and can’t find the start spot for the H and L screws . How many turns out for ea. screw? I’ve tried 2,3,4 turns and can’t get a idle point
Try reading the manual
either anwer--which you did not..or don't comment. Your S-A reply not helpful@@antonioherrera2476
Start 1 and qaurter turns .always
Just an FYI. The throttle rods are different on the BG55. My connection was different, so the kit didn't totally work. I replaced what I could and was able to get it to start as primer was broken.
How do you tell if the ignition coil (?) is bad? I pulled the plug and plugged it back in while out and do not see a spark. I did ohm out the switch and it appears to be working.
get a spark strobe tester, it sits between the spark plug wire and spark plug and will flash if working, or pull the plug and attach the cable and pull it in the dark to look for spark
Thank you. I did end up doing something to finally see the spark. That strobe tester would have been a lot easier though. Replaced the plug, fuel and air filter then readjusted the spacing on the coil. Now works like a charm. Appreciate the video.
The open spark plug hole made me nervous. Cover, plug or put tape on it. A dropped screw in there will make it a bad day.
Heat the arrester red hot and burn off the carbon and oil , reinstall.
😮😮😮
Stop being in a rush on your phone

This machine is JUNK JUNK JUNK. Don't ever buy one.
You check the screen in the exhaust? Clean the carb ? New spark plug . Gas lines ok . Those are usually the basic problems unless the H, L and LA screws have been adjusted then that’s a whole other thing
id kinda agree, for being a Stihl im very disappointed in the performance. Mines a pain in da butt
I love mine! It's over 35 years old and has never given me any trouble. I just noticed my primer bulb has cracked so I ordered a kit and will change the spark plug, filter, bulb and maybe the carberator, since it's included in the kit...all that for less than $20. My model is the sh85
