This video shows how we replaced a 6-prong head. It shows the removal of the old head (which was worn) and the addition of the new head. The stone is then set and the piece is polished and cleaned.

thank you for sharing. So its ok to solder joints with stones already set?

It depends on the stone type. Diamonds, sapphires, rubies, moissanites tend to be ok if set in silver and gold, but don't quench the piece after soldering (just leave it to cool). For most other stones, you risk damaging them from the heat.

this vid was truly so good and i was on board all the way until he used easy solder on an important part of the ring with no other solder joins nearby, always its better to use as hard as possible to keep the strength and coloration consistant. great work and finish tho soldering aside.

Thanks! He was trained to use easy solder so that when heads are replaced they can be taken off easily (he worked in a high volume repair center).

What do you use to protect the diamond

Not sure what you mean.... Diamonds can hold up against heat and also most of the brushes and tools -- that is why diamonds are one of the top choices of stones for durability purposes.

@@marnien1161 Hi @marnien1161 - Sorry for the delay, just saw this. The best bet is to remove the stones, do the work and then reset them. If you have access to a laser and are careful, you might be able to use the laser for repair on it.
