As a product of the 50s, this type of movie was always enjoyable to watch...brings back nostalgic memories.
...1950s sound tracks!
(good for creating the nostalgia).
I was hatched in 1961 so I grew up watching these older sci-fi movies. I have only seen this twice in all the years, but the old black and white really brings out the atmosphere of a great horror flick. At times I prefer the black and white over the colorized version.
I thought I had seen all the good sci-fi films of the 50s but I must have missed this one. Excellent mysterious story, good script and good effects, and thankfully no unconvincing monsters in rubber suits! The colorisation has its imperfections but the film definitely benefits from it, and many scenes look like they were actually shot in colour. Definitely worth 73 mins of any sci-fi fans time.
If only we could cut out the excruciating scenes where the kid is seen to be cleverer than the adults!
Are you smarter than a 5th grader!? lol
That's quite normal for American TV programs of the 1950s and 1960s. Quite often there's even a dog or a horse that is smarter than the adults.
New American TV show: 'Are You Smarter Than A Horse' (of course) lol
If only the monsters came out of their rubber suits, then we could see if they are convincing or not.
@RoBear-bv8ht That's very wise! lol
High Fives to all us scientific facts researchers. I'm 70 now, but I had Flash Gordon cuffs when I was 5, in 1958. I was born on a new moon.
The Philosophy and advice in this movie was right on today.....looking back in '23❤
born '66 with icbms and bombers buzzing around my bed at night ...could not sleep... i got pretty embittered but still believein "i don't know" as tenet number 1 vof science.... x
@@PIERRECLARY the 1 thing that is still foreign to humans is the kindness and healing medicine that the Cosmic Man possessed. It's really the alien in society, Kindness heals.
Lovely, really lovely
Hello, my friend, and high fives right back at ya! Just one thing to clarify: You were "born on a new moon," does this imply you are some kind of extraterrestrial, possibly exploring newly formed galaxies?
Sorry to be such a smart ass, it just struck me funny.
Good day to you and happy sci-fi watching!
@@timgega5930 Very nicely observed, tim. Isn't it terrific when a writer steps outside of the usual "scary alien" storyline and gives the star real depth and character?!
I confess, I have yet to meet Cosmic Man, but you have sold me. I intend to look him up as soon as possible. Thanks again, tim.
Mel Brooks, 1987: Hey, I just finished watching The Cosmic Man. And boy, do I have a great idea for a Star Wars spoof!
Those 50's Chrysler station wagons were quite beautiful compared to later versions.
Yes looking at the cars in the old movies is the best 😀
The first station wagon seen looks like a 1958 Dodge Coronet Lancer. A convertible model in black could easily have been the first Batmobile.
58 Desoto.
You can see "DODGE" on the hood at the front. The 1958 Desoto and the Dodge Coronet Lancer of the same year are almost identical.@@gumbootgaiter3946
I'm shocked i've never seen this one before. I always enjoyed sci-fi. Thank you for sharing. 😊
Thanks for the movie! I didn't know it existed! It clearly reflects the unrest of the scientific intelligentsia of that period, both in the USA and in the USSR.
USA & USSR are, and were, ruled by the same group.
This is just propaganda for the masses, similar to "The Day The Earth Stood Still", and a number of other movies and TV shows, used to promote globalism and diversity.
Unrest?
(That sounds like a riot waiting to happen!)
I think there's a better choice of words than "unrest".
"Unease"
"Uneasiness"
"Apprehension"
"Worrisome concern"
"Anxiety"
....these are examples
This is one of my favorite movies. Usually I do not like colorized versions of the old B&W, but for this movie it works (imho). Let us hope when a extraterrestrial being comes to Earth bearing a message of interplanetary peace and understanding, the military doesn't muck it up.
They will
You know the military as well as the politicians will muck it up. That'll be a guarantee and probably why we don't have any long term alien visitors, at least that we are aware of.
Ask yourself why Jesus has not returned ... yet. And why we are at the brink of WW3.
😅ⁿ😮
Huh?
I love the way they used to put all the credits before the movie. It gave you an anticipation that you don't feel now. Especially if it was stars that you knew and wanted to know who they were in the movie. Especially on the big screen it was just such an exciting time to watch
I liked the double-feature movies
(with The Three Stooges, thrown in between the two)
Was it 'double feature', where you went to see it, back in the day?
(I think it was the kind of flick that they showed at drive-in theaters, too!)
Star Wars was the first movie to break the tradition of putting credits before the film and putting them at the end instead. The studios fought it, but it gave a dramatic intro to the film and became the new way to present movies.
@@WS102 watching the first Star wars at the theater was the most exciting movie I had ever seen. I was on The edge of my seat when the planes were flying through the buildings lol
And you can see right away how many men are in the film and how many women.
Worth watching for the vintage cars.
This movie isn't your run of the mill "high school play" sci-fi flick. It doesn't play as campy. It's worth the watch.
I recall seeing one from the 50s which was high budget and had a cameo by Mo ("Wise guy, huh!?") driving a taxi, and the Burgermeister Meisterburger in it as a scientist.

In real life, Grant's Lodge was The Redwood Lodge in Thousand Oaks, Ca. Long gone. There's a patio store there, now. Griffith Observatory and Bronson Caves are practically unchanged.
Nice little sci-fi film but nothing to write home about. Mr. Carradine did his usual workman job but did not get that much screen time. Coloration was decent. Benevolent space alien (sorry no robot) gets the usual earth treatment. Best thing was the chat, very enjoyable, a larf a min powered the show. Solid 2.5 stars. Thanks CCC, lots of cheesy 1950s sci-fi fans in the cult. I'm one.
There is hope for the future, the boy was the best actor in the whole cast.
Great flick, with little animation or special effects, yet the story is good, becuz there’s conflict b/w the military & science. Acting above average, much better than many B movies at the time. Enjoying this. I already can guess the ending, but won’t spoil it!!
Conflict between Military and Science? Not any more.
Science is only for fixing power and "the western values"
Sir Karl Popper ' s way of asking, of researching is completely out and switched off.
I would rate this movie along with Star Trek IV and The Day The Earth Stood Still as being the most positive-minded when it comes to the portrayal of extraterrestrials and the message being presented by them to the people of Earth. It definitely shows that fear is the default state of Man's way of looking at matters be it toward extraterrestrials or himself and his fellow creatures, and that a new way of thinking is required in order to live life as he is meant to do so, that is to say, a decent, more enlightened and beneficent way to live with his fellow creatures here on Earth as well as those who live out in the vast depths of outer space. Only then can Man truly call himself a civilized and advanced being. And who is to say that extraterrestrials aren't among us right now making use of materials here on Earth to benefit both themselves, and trying to create a better existence for mankind as a whole!!!
We are at the verge of awakening - it may be that it needs to be brought on by tears and tyranny (as we have seen in the last 3 years - censorship, brutality, lies, corruption) but the people of earth are good. Every day I can see in my surroundings people out to help, heal and standing through these times... we need to trust our hearts and soul more than the "outer voices of distraction and so called authority" and make our hearts and conscience the only authority. Thank you for your review... will watch the video now... Discernment and wisdom is needed - a gift that everyone gives to themselves...
Well, duh, it's got Enterprise bridge sounds @ 27:28
You give up your fear, first. Meanwhile, sane people who know that fear is well-founded and wise will leave you to your fate- which will be grim.
I am 72 years old and with a classmate in 1967 we saw a saucer on a Sunday morning around 2 o'clock in our village located in the east of France... it was extraordinary, so close and so immence, and why haven't we seen any since I wonder
You don't realize that "The Day the Earth Stood Still" is a *horror movie*??? Gort and robots like him controlled the humanoid aliens who served as ambassadors to expand their empire.
The cars that were built during the 30s, 40s and 50s were classic and good-looking. Designers should look back to that period for inspiration, and construct cars with a similar appearance to those of that era.
This needs to be a play on Broadway! The dialogue is well crafted!
3:33 Maybe they should be looking for a Chinese weather balloon. Love the chameleon paint on the car's.
Even the headlights move in different directions.

John Erman (one of the supporting actors in this film) a couple of years later became the producer for the TV series "The Outer Limits." (The first version) There is a similar end title sequence that copies the opening titles here. Later He became a very good TV film Director.
Hey, thanks for that info, spudwas! The original Outer Limits was exceptional, in my opinion. What it lacked in big money and expensive effects, it more than made up for with terrific writing and daring plots. It was ahead of it's time and we eagerly waited for the next episodes.

Why do you ask this question ? 😮
Spanish is such a lovely language. I understand everything he said.
Very good film. Sound sounding science, especially for a '50's movie, and relevant to our modern age.
Turning sunlight into electricity? What a concept. Impossible.
I understand your humorous remark. But Einstein described the theory of photovoltaic cells in 1905 the same year he presented his theory of relativity. And when they awarded him the Nobel Prize in 1922 it was for his work on Photovoltaic theory. After initial versions were actually built, that produced electricity.
So I guess Einstein was our real cosmic man.
🤯
I just watched the Venusian (1954) The Cosmic Man (1959) what great sci-fi adventures. The spectrum between wisdom, knowledge and ignorance. Depends on the direction you moving. A chain is as strong as its weakest link? Stay strong earthlings.
Thank very much for classic sci-fi film!
Some old SF movies are best forever forgotten. _This is not one of those._
Loved this movie. I like em better than the new movies. At least these are where we can understand em. Not too much fast action. Bring back the old black and white movies. Thanks. 👍

5:50 Magic color changing cars of the future! Pink, green, back to pink! In fact all of the cars are quite the technicolor spectrum. Pretty!

That’s because of the deterioration of the film and trying to recolorizing it, it sometimes doesn’t work out so well….😥
Paint jobs courtesy the LGBTQ Paint Company. Their slogan: Drive the Rainbow!
Apparently the paint also varies by who's looking at it --- I was seeing red and blue!
I think we all know, obviously a team at the Oak Ridge facility developed the first hypershift automobile paint. Probably a deeply guarded military secret... until someone decided to colorize this film, exposing their work.
Cosmic ,Spaceballs, Rocket Man, I said, " Hello to a lot of people who were watching this during live upload in the chat room at the beginning." But my puns and coherency quickly declined, and I missed the end and didn't get to say goodbye . Kind regards to everyone in the chat room 😀 ✨️

I'll run the figures through the UNIVAC. That was the super computer of their day.
I like how the colourist decided to give our scientist hero a purple station wagon. Although sometimes it flickered into the blue range.
Those colors were from the flexible solar panels formed into the fenders, hood and top of that solar-electric powered car
thanks for posting like getting a "new" "old" movie
Also the orchestra music change the feel of each scene. Much better than today's playing the top hits
There's some sort of writing on the sphere General. It says... Sunkist.
Apparently the colorist should have made it orange. That would also explain why Doris Day is in this thing.

Very good, thanks for having this available. Like others I missed it when watching all those old sci-fi movies. People were a little casual about an anti-gravity sphere from space showing up, but it certainly was sensitive and very pro-science. Also, it was fun!
Thanks
Como é bom ver esses filmes antigos, não tinha tecnologia mais eles se saiam muito bem. 😊
Nota mil. Muito obrigado!
Loved it!! TY!
I sure like the cars...and pick-up trucks...from those years, they had a lot of style and personality. I especially like the Station Wagons.
I am 71 and these 1950's sci-fi movies were part of my childhood. This is one of the better ones. It wasn't about battles in space and disruptor beams; which are fun to watch, but how we might and probably will react to facing an extraterrestrial being.
Today, we have had Congress hold hearings with military 'whistleblowers' with inside information about the frequent UAP's. It sounds promising, but I think we are still a long way from 'officially' acknowledging extraterrestrial craft in our skies.
And this is why these older sci-fi movies about the "what if and when" of E.T.'s
are interesting to watch and ponder.
I think that sci-fi story is mainly classified as 1) discussion on precise physics and its expectation 2) discussion on sociology on an unusual condition (world of 'What if"). This movie is 2nd type sci-fi and much better than I expected!
Great . Thanks Cult Cinema

Awesome movies they sure don't make those types of movies like that anymore! Good storylines and plot's!!
The golden age of Hollywood was from the 1910s through the 1950s. Another golden age could be at hand if the producers and directors would just make films as they were made then during that period of time. That would benefit everyone in the end!
This movie came out the year I was born and I didn't even know it existed, the funny thing about seeing this movie is it shows real truth because about 6 years ago I saw 3 glowing yellowish orbs fly low over my home each one came from a different direction and each one disappeared in the same spot in the sky, the sky was a clear beautiful blue day no clouds at all and it was about 2:30 pm. I still don't know what to think and I have an awful lot of unanswered questions.
I saw one of the Triangle Ships, very close... a light under each corner,... So silent. HOVERING slowly...
