Wonderful film! Thank you so much fro sharing. I'm a huge fan of the steam locomotives and its heartwarming to see they are being still used and taken care of in Australia. I hope you keep up your excellent work and send me a copy of future uploads. Take care! ...anwar...
My father in-law remembers you and says hello ,,,!! he filmed this but i uploaded it onto my youtube ,,thanks for your comment and thanks for looking from Sean and the chap who filmed it ,,his name is Geoff
Nice shots...... I love those R class locos. Their work was amazing on the Melbourne Warnambool Sat service trains in the early 2000s. I so regret not going to Victoria and taking a trip when they were running. I heard that they easily kept modern diesel timings. I'd like to see them run at 150, which they could easily do. For UK viewers - I'm sure you love the safety regs. In the Northern Territory they are even stricter…..ツ …☁☁☁⁘⁙☁☁⁙..☁……Hᴜɢʜ….Lɪᴋᴇᴅ
thanks for your comment ,,,its good steam has started running again in Oz,,,they have got some nice looking locos ,,i went to Oz back in 1989 for 6 months or so ,,but never seen a single train because i went to Western Oz
It appeared that the engines had both automatic couplers, and separators and chains. When did they change over? I love Australian railways. Their components appear to be about three-quarters North American railway designs and one-quarter British railway designs. Thanks for the video.
#numberzerozero six. The steam locos are fitted with "transition couplers" where the auto coupler could be swung aside and the screw coupling used. The VR started phasing out screw couplings in the late 1920's, see this article: www.pjv101.net/cd/pages/vrf_ac.htm Why Britain and Europe have persisted with that archaic system into the 21st century I don't know.
I remember being on the Sprit of Progress way back in the 1950s when the R class Hudsons were coal fired. Don't tell my fellow NSWelshmen , but I thought the R class were and still are superior to our 38s Details of the Spirit www.railpage.com.au/f-p1551197.htm hauled by an older S class Pacific. If I am wrong please post corrections.
Well for those in the UK who want to come and see it - they run the Snow Train to Traralgon twice a year every winter (July - August) double-headed with 2 R class locos.
How lucky the train had to stop here, what a memory and a wonderful chance for a close up view.
brilliant footage. i wish i had seen something as good as thins when i visited Oz 4 yrs ago.faved..kevin

CGT867 the bit that is rare. Because my youtube is based in the uk.

@@XxBec3509 👍
Ignore the first 5 minutes, it's a waste of time.
Jesus. Bogans on the track side. And kids no less. Just what you want as a driver approaching.
