  • Hi! Well, we bought an old horse trailer! We're absolutely thrilled - it has a brand new floor, and new axles, it's in need of new paint, some rust repair in a few places, and rewiring on the lights!
It's not the fanciest trailer (by far) but it means we can take our horses places! 😄 and that makes it a dream!

for the future it is much better to use a wire wheel to knock the old paint off or use paint stripper..... ultimate solution would be sandblast. the grinding is taking material off and you're risking the integrity of the panels doing that. also instead of brushing down the panels before paint you should use tack cloths. just tips for you all

Hey thanks! These are great tips, we’re total newbies to the trailer restoring (and on a tight budget) and appreciate the tips!
It’s been a learn as we go kind of process 😄

Absolutely will! We've yet to complete the top, as we had to shift and build our horses shelter before the nasty weather hit, then wait for a break in the rain to complete. It's looking pretty darn good though!

Wow. Impressive grinder tolerance lol. That was a LOT of work with a grinder! Id definately recommend the old harbor freight sand blaster for that! Do you have an update?

Thanks! Fun to see the clean bare metal when the outside coat was rusty. Most of the tooling we got for this project was harbor freight, but a sand blaster would've been a good idea. We still need to finish up the inside, re-wire the tail lights, and re-do the top of the roof. (We may be 3D printing some neat things too).
Right now we've been finishing up a shelter for the horses to keep them out of the wintery weather--we'll probably finish the trailer this Spring!
      Thanks for the comment!

I’m planning on doing my own horse float (that’s what we call them in Australia) and would love some pointers if you’re up for it. I don’t have as much to do as you guys but would love some advise on products I need etc. would you be up for it?

Still in progress! We've been hit with the intense rain and winter weather here in the Pacific Northwest, and so the projects been on hold until it's clear again (if we take that paint off the roof and it gets wet, we'll have sooo much rust 🥲)
