This car was not the only French supercar in that time. In the 80s/90s there were some more French supercars such us the Hommel Berlinette, Alpine A610, Mega Track, Mega Monte Carlo, etc.. Nowadays, my favourite French supercar is the fantastic Furtive-eGT which was presented at the Paris Motor Show in 2012. And the Genty Akylone also looks very nice.
The 6-cylinder Venturi had absolutely nothing to do with the original PRV engine. Almost everything had been modified or changed by the factory, pistons, camshaft, new injection system, etc.... So much so that Venturi had it homologated as their own engine. More powerful versions of 500 or 600 BHP had even been developed for competition Venturis, notably for the 24 hours of Le Mans.
It's sad that it's a forgotten French super car. Better than Ferrari I suppose. Surely it has reliability issues from a car being almost twenty or ten years old
"Richard Hammond ... blah blah ... as well as marking it on it's overall design". OMG. Is there a single British man who figured out the difference between its and it's? Is there a single British man who can tell good style from bad style?
I can't believe that hideous thing was once considered a supercar. To me, if a supercar is no longer called so 20 years later, it was never a supercar. I also can't believe he prefers the looks of this to a gen 1 NSX, which I absolutely love the look of. Which of the two cars ended in the pools of obscurity? That's right, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone today who's even heard of this, it looks like a Nissan.
HELMUT ALTO A French thing? Two of my 5 favourite car firms are definitely Citroen, and Bugatti, I love French cars. It's very plain looking. To call it a supercar would have to compare it with the Lamborghini Countach, does that sound right to you? Not really. In my opinion, the French have never really made a supercar, it's just not in their nature to produce speed and madness. The French are better at intelligent design and eccentric styling, the Citroen DS being the perfect example.
HELMUT ALTO Bugatti's been around now for a while, in France where they were originally built. I wouldn't consider them supercar makers but they're certainly luxury car makers. Yes, the war crippled that french market, but they've had a few attempts since, especially from Citroen with cars like the SM. But, the French won't ever really build a supercar because that just doesn't really fit their persona, which is probably why the Venturi failed. For the Italians to come up with something like a Lamborghini, it's something we're used to, but if the French tried to make something like that, it just wouldn't really fit. Yes, they can make luxury cars they can make expensive cars and they can make fast cars, but they can't make a supercar because they just don't quite have the culture for it. The ultimate ride down Parisian streets is a mid thirties Bugatti, not a Lamborghini Countach because people will simply look at you like an idiot, unlike the streets of Maranello.
Tastes and colors... But you're right, Venturi considered the Atlantique 300 as a GT, not a supercar. Because they did make a supercar, the Venturi 400 GT. It was actually the first road car with carbon brakes: 400 hp, 300 km/h and 4.1 0 to 100 km/h. You'll probably find it ugly, but still, it was a real supercar.
One of the most beautiful cars ever.
That car is utterly gorgeous. I wonder how the Stig would do round the TG track with it
The 300 Atlantique is based on the 400Trophy chassis, ultra efficient.
Got my ass handed to me by one of these in Gran Turismo 2.
+Dave Johnson You got owned. :D
in love with it too and Test drive 6 lol

oui la furtive est vraiment belle, j'ai hate de voir le prototype roulant de l'alkylon
Probably meant the only one in production
To me, it looks like a huge, luxurious Toyota MR2.
+Xtwonine kinda like your mom
That doesen't even make sense :P
What even happened to Venturi after the 90s?
von Habsburg now it s a company making electric cars at monaco .
I really like it. Sleek design. But love the NSX as well.
I had not even heard of this manufacturer or car, what a lovely looking thing!!!
Looks amazing
Beautiful looking car.
Is this a Bi-turbo?????????
TheDevilWithin72 Well Richard Hammond said it has 2 turbos so...
+TheDevilWithin72 math F-
Only French supercar? What about the Alpine A610 and the Mega Track V12?
+DolleHengst not real cars
Peugeot 406 Coupe
Is not the only french supercar what about Alpine A110 ? And old bugatti and old brands like facel vegas or delahaye ^^
well that is one lovely looking car
this exact car is at my dad's works, in for engine repairs
@1:26 Absolutely, the Bugatti Veyron is just a Super GT, since horsepower does not make a car a sportscar or supercar.
I met this car first in Test Drive 6
Mine would be Gran Turismo 2.
Beautiful car 😍

There was once a day when French Supercar meant king of the castle.
am I the only one who thinks it looks like a ford probe?
nah.. I can tell u, u r not d only one here
If a Dodge stealth n Ford probe had a baby
Thought the exact same thing..
MCA Centenaire is supercar with 720hp and 340km/h top speed
2:58 she's hot.
See the number 001 chassis here. French owner video :
ruclips.net/video/wmJIbaO1ZHM/видео.html
when supercars back then are considered "sportscars" nowadays...
that front end looks very fd rx7
Is it a Top Gear presentator not bashing a French car ? Is it even possible ?
+Dédé LABINOUZE TG presentators hate new french cars but if you ask about old peugeot like the 205 or 505 they love it
Valdoy2866™ Maybe Hammond or May, but Clarkson ? I'd love to hear that lol
+Dédé LABINOUZE clarkson loves the 205. I suggest watching an episode of Clarkson's Car years.
WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT AT 4;05?
It looks a lot better than that 60 year old flattened beetle that you can find on every corner of the streets.
just a sjame that it's renault parts all over it
@HELMUT ALTO hence the phenomenal success: 94 vehicles sold ...
@HELMUT ALTO don't cry baby
It's sad that it's a forgotten French super car. Better than Ferrari I suppose. Surely it has reliability issues from a car being almost twenty or ten years old
MR2
From some angles it looks like a Toyota GT4 Celica....imo of course!
Bit like they have copied the Toyota Mk2 MR2
It looks like a cross between a Ferrari 348 and a Maserati Shamal! Only fatter!
Venturi. French answer to Ferrari
music cover engine sound .....unsubscribed
its bland and badgless
@HANS DEWRIES its my opinion which is fully justified facist pig
"Richard Hammond ... blah blah ... as well as marking it on it's overall design". OMG. Is there a single British man who figured out the difference between its and it's? Is there a single British man who can tell good style from bad style?
+Yves Champollion is that your real name turdpollion
NSX isn`t a supercar.. :p Sportscar yes, and there are tuned versions that are crazy fast, but a normal NSX is s sportscar.. :&
The S2000 is a sports car.
Back in 1999 the NSX was a super car

lol! The NA1 was *not* a looker, the NA2 was.

Looks like a Ford probe
+Peter Donpot so does your mom
Peter Donpot you need glasses
It's a rather bland and generic looking car. It's really annoying how many times he says 'supercar' in this video. This is nothing of the sort.
+Tick Tock back than this was a supercar, because of it's performance.
+Tick Tock oh, well...you're a fucking idiot so nobody cares what you have to say
Looks like the French don't know what a super car is.
Hommell Berlinette, Alpine A310, Méga Track, Bugatti, Citroën SM, Venturi, etc... The french know their thing regarding super(b)cars.
