One of the best luxury race car ever made in France. It's a shame they lost the company because of their formula 1 financial engagment. It costs them too much money. Thank you for this review!
The manufacture of Venturi was 40km away from my home, there is 2 or 3 in my local car scenes ! Awesome cars ! The 400 GT is called the french F40 (very close perfs)
I grew up in Angers, I used to go as a kid to the MVS manufacture near Cholet. The place was bright, quiet and clean as a hospital. The mechanics were building 4 or 5 chassis simultaneously. There is a night blue 400 GT in Nantes.
I like in the USA and am the proud owner of a 2000 Venturi Atlantique Twin-Turbo. In reference to the in vehicle engine noise - it is so incredibly loud that the stereo system isn’t audible at any high speed on the motorway. Also another poor design element is the lack of heat distribution for engine oil cooling. If you get stuck in stop and go traffic on a hot day, in this vehicle, you are in serious trouble. The problem lies with the placement of the inter cooler being in the back getting NO airflow AND getting blasted with engine bay heat from the boot then the vehicle begins to “beep beep beep beep” when the temperature soars past 220 Fahrenheit & if one isn’t careful you could crack a head in the blink of an eye. But, after all it is French and still is a phenomenal car to drive. Ours has a mere 21k original miles. It’s impeccable to look at and drive!!
You should definitely be running Evans Waterless Coolant, & then you can run a 0 psi rad.-cap. Also look into running a Davis Craig electric waterpump. You remove the impeller off the stock pump, bypass the pulley with a different belt , (but not necessary), then remove the thermostat. My theory with the old PRV's cooling system was deficient the pump cavitates on the rear mounted engines vs. front mounted engines with the radiator closer to the pump, & less pumping volume distance. I can only wonder the true coolant temps are around the cylinder liners, & cavitation there also. Evans coolant will take care of it that's why its also NHRA/NASCAR approved for track use, but also because how efficient propylene glycol is, & doesn't boil. You may need a good oil cooler, & you should also be using a boutique high performance blended oil like High Performance Lubricants with 860ppm of MoDTC (Moly), or Joe Gibbs Driven oil, Schaffers Oil, Miller's Oil. RedLine & Amsoil is at the lower end of the boutique oils. Let me know if you have any other questions, you lucky guy!
A lot of French cars have questionable build quality and rightfully so. This has degraded their whole car sector which is held. In other words a bad reputation.
@@Gnomosfortheoffice I find his reviews incredibly dull mostly because of weak content. Not that he says anything wrong.. he just doesn't add any value to the topic of cars... The A610 and GTA's intercooler is also at the back. Vents and grills in the integrated spoiler force air down, through channels and then rammed through the intercooler. Works surprisingly well. (GTA V6 Turbo owner here....)
You should have seen the GT version race in the BPR Series. Slow (always private cars) but sounded awesome and looked mean!! The 'R' in BPR is Stephane Ratel, who raced and owned (owns..) several Venturis; co-founder of the series; which eventually became the FIA GT championship, then Blancpain GT Series.
I've had the luck of driving one of these (biturbo version) at Francorchamps. In a sense it does feel a lot like a mixture between the Lotus Esprit and the Renault Alpine A610 turbo of the late eighties early nineties. It is less nimble than the former and for some reason (despite the much higher torque and power figures) it feels less pushy, less grunty than the alpine, but makes it up with a well planted feeling. Nice to see it on this channel, hope to see more interesting stuff again
That explanation of supercars in the last 5 minutes was really appreciated. No superlatives, no bs, just a guy baring his emotional connection with cars to the world.
When I bought my Delorean, the chap I bought it from had a Venturi 400, several DMCs and a Alpine Le Mans edition. We went out for a ride in the Venturi and he scared the shit out of me in it around the corners. Handles very well but the glove box popped open mid corner. The car was the same color both inside and outside as that one. This was back in 2007.
I disagree on the looks, i've always found the Venturi a very pretty car. I live in the Northwest of England & i've totally heard of a Venturi Atlantique 300.
This is quickly becoming my favorite automotive RUclips channel. Fantastic review - and I love that you have access to and spend time with cars I’ve never even heard of!!
That 300 is I believe formerly owned by Renault Alpine Owners Club and former A610 owner Pauly A610. He did do a lot of work to it to bring what was a scruffy car from storage to a very nice clean car, He has sold it on now and I don't know where it went. Originally the earlier cars were made by MVS and were called Venturi as a model. These earlier cars used the very same engine and gearbox as Alpine did for their GTA turbo models delivering 200hp, hence now these earlier cars are referred to as the 200. The GTA version had its engine moved through 180 degrees making it a rear engine car with the gear box intruding into the rear just like a Porsche 911. The Venturi has had the engine and gear box placed into the rear of the car with the engine forward of the gear box meaning it is a mid-engine car. Around 1992 MVS became Venturi and the model names became the 210, (an increased power version of the 200), and the 260, developing 260bhp by changing the crankshaft from a Renault to a Volvo to give 2900cc from the 2500cc, Venturi also had to have bespoke ECU’s made for the 260 variants as Renault did not have a 2900cc turbo engine. The chassis on all road going Venturi/MVS,(200/210/260/300 Atlantique/400 GT), are not tubular but rather steel pressed and are so ridged they are capable of being driven without body work. The chassis for the 400 trophy was developed from the 260 but for the 400 Trophy single make race series they widened the track and lengthened the wheel base. When Venturi decided to replace the 260 with the 300 they used the new 400 Trophy chassis dimensions kept the same cock pit sizes, dashboard and centre tunnel to save on costs designing the new body work of the 300 to provide the width needed between the 260 and the 300. The 260 is probably a little more hardcore than the 300 with the 300 being a little more “Grown up” and a tour-er compared to the 260. The naturally aspirated version of the Atlantique was indeed built and offered for sale though it was not at all popular, hardly surprising really as not only did it feature a non-turbo charged engine, Venturi for some bizarre reason chose to offer the car with an automatic gear box making the car painfully slow and barely any cheaper than the turbo version. The Turbo version of the car rejoiced in the full name of Atlantique 300 and the non turbo, Atlantique. Well it could not get anywhere near the 300 bhp of the turbo car, 285 bhp or there about and the Bi-turbo almost reaching the dizzy heights of 300 bhp with a very close 290’ plus bhp. All Venturi cars were built with longitudinal engine and gearbox installations with the exception of the unloved naturally aspirated Atlantique. If you have gotten this far, well done and I hope it helps supplement the above video.
By the way I have the only RHD 260 in the country that is still road worthy. It was the media and demonstrator car for the importers Raptor. I assume they chose the name to compliment the bird of prey on the Venturi badge. It has appeared in a few magazines and top gear in 1992 I think it was
@HELMUT ALTO ---- Hi no club in the Great Britain though we did run a sort of Forum on Yahoo pages but that sort of faded away as people sold their cars on. The car's you have shown in the videos are genuine UK cars and not termed as an import, even though they were brought into the country from France. In the same way a Renault Clio that is RHD and sold from a Renault dealership is not viewed as an import. By the way the blue car in the 1st video is my car and was filmed at a Renault WSR weekend at Silverstone some years ago now. I am not the video maker or poster. All the best.

Always Loved the Atlantique, I saw it in some old magazines and always loved the look of it. Just subscribed, Great video, excited to see the TVR review after this.
I used to own 'the green one' as it is known and as used on Top Gear .Reg Mk A300 VEN - then changed to R3 PPB - it came back broken - I fixed it at my cost - then I crashed in the front spoiler - then I got it back and did exactly the same thing again on the same day!! I worked out that it did more miles on my car trailer toing and froing from Cheltenham to Oselli in Whitney Oxfordshire than it did whilst under its power in my care. I loved it - I have had Ferrari's; Lotus, TVR and yet this is the car I enjoyed the most. Simply put it was drama free - just expensive to put right - it was better when I had the power steering turned off - the pop up headlights would work independently of each other and it overheated constantly so I had a switch put in under the steering wheel to turn the fan on. Two months ago it was up for sale for 50K - have not checked it recently 50k is 5X what I sold it for!!!!!! If you look carefully you can see the little orange switch!!

I would but for one small thing - parts would by my fear - those darn lights were comedy - dare you 'flash someone as one would pop up and as it went down the other would come up and then stay there!!! Despite spending a fortune getting them right they still never worked properly - however with all the quirks - the handling was incredible - the whistle from the turbo insane and the sudden power available sublime yet almost zero engine noise. I once went to Prestbury Hill Climb in Cheltenham and there was an impromptu Venturi/Renault A600 meet - I made my way over and said "I've got one of these" The French guy who was organising it said "is it a green one?" When I said "yes" he said "We have been looking fo it, is there any chance you can bring it" - I went home and got it - and it overheated on the way back!!!! To fix it meant taking the body off - again!!!!
Nelson Club Unlucky car maybe, ours came with a few faults but only due to being stood for about 15 years, it’s just done a track day with no issues at all. We have a blue biturbo in for a few little issues, should be fixed soon and up for sale
my friends dad had one of these way back in the day!!, a lady pulled out on him and relieved him of it a few years back but i have very fond memories!. i cant say i liked the look of it at the time but love how it looks with older eyes....beautiful car!
Good review, fella. I haven’t seen any of your uploads prior to this. It was concise, informative, and completely void of the annoying analogies that are almost a default setting amongst most online reviewers, so thanks for explaining the cars pros n cons without resorting to the aforementioned. Well done, sir. You have a new and happy subscriber.
I remember i had a book as a child in the 90s of supercars that had an orange mclafen F1 LM on the cover. This was one of my favourite cars in the book along with the lister storm
I've followed the MVS models - 210, 260 and TransCoupe, Atlantique & 400 GT - for some time, having seen them at various motor shows in the UK. The sole UK importer was Raptor (UK) of Norfolk.
recent fan just now discovering you have hundreds of videos on amazing, rare, interesting cars. and you go over all the interesting details, esp all the strangeness with the engine.
I’d forgotten about these. Absolutely loved them back in the day. You say Ferrari 355, I’m saying 348 era! And don’t forget, I think the XJ220 also shared those same wing mirrors👍 yet again, loved the video😎
I love this car. It's mind boggling that they achieved to make such a beautiful car with a windshield from the RENAULT Fuego, side mirrors from the Citroën CX and the rear lights of the FORD Sierra.
I think this would be a solid reference for "how do I inspire the next generation of Petrol Heads?" By appreciation of the brands who looked up to the Ferraris and the likes of the era. You did solid on this one mate! I'll see ya on the next one.
Tail lights are from a late Ford Sierra Sedan. Interior door handles & stalks from Peugeot 205, switches below AC from Citroen Xantia, AC controls Rover 45 I think. And I know the power window and mirror controls from the Xantia, too, I believe.
This video certainly is a treat.. thank you for a new review of a rather special old car.. and yes because Gran Turismo.. and I've also seen the young Hamster reviewing the car ages ago btw..
thanks for this great video on this very rare car. Before this video, all i knew was a 2 second segment on topgear when they raced one against a bunch of european cars, perhaps it was the test of the original XJR. Always wanted more information!
Thank you for this video, the Venturi has been a favourite of mine for decades. I thought about the Venturi while watching your Alpine GTA video (some more excellent content, by the way) and was delighted to find that you've done the Atlantique 300 as well. For the record, I want one of each....
Used to love the other variant of this on gran turismo 2 I think it was. Maybe the intercooler at the rear uses cooling by suction of warm air away instead of forcing cool air in. That is today perhaps it uses the venturi effect from the aerodynamics. A nod to their own name
I have never watched a video on your channel before, however this is a great overview of such a unique and quirky car. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your content!

@JayEmm on Cars, to be fair, I, a viewer of vehicle videos online that lives across the pond from you, also had no idea that this car existed other than from video games. However, then again, you all would probably be in shock over the Fox Body variants of the Mercury Capri, let alone the little 1990s roadster version of the Mercury Capri.
Here a video on a 2014 Venturi French club meeting for the 30th anniversary of the brand, with 90 cars present : ruclips.net/video/zcPPvWVeRDM/видео.html
I remember them from the BPR GT Sports car Endurance racing series which took over from Group C in the early 1990s when sports racers HAD to be based on production cars. They did quite well against F40s and Porkers but not Mclaren GTRs which were a class above. BPR was suceeded by the FIA GT series with Corvettes and Vipers and prototypes along with the Merc SLKs and Porker GT1s which were really prototypes and seriously fast. I think Venturi went bump at the turn of the century.
Venturi my favorite French exotic it never got much attention but it aged great one of Europe's best kept secrets along with TVR yes suprisingly im American but like rare European sports cars.
Very nice video! Never seen one of these for real, only as you say in Gran Turismo and maybe a magazine somewhere. Both the PRV6 and the newer ES9J4(S) V6 are Peugeot/Renault collaborations. I think Venturi was the only company to to try and wrestle more power out of the old cast iron lump, which can also of course be found in the back of a DeLorean. Wikipedia will tell you the PRV6 was made from 1974 to 1998, 24 years! Very happy to see this beautiful car, and happy to hear it's actually a quality product, that doesn't happen very often with French cars. Sounds like they made a proper GT car.
I always thought that Venturi only made race cars, nice to be proved wrong though, really nice car and a great review, so no need to worry about the first review in 2 decades....you suceeded to do it proud 👍
I first saw this car when a Mr Clarkson reviewed it along with a Renault A610 (yes, like the one in the photo behind you at the start) Thank you so much for reviewing this.
This was awesome. When I was a kid, I had a book about cars that had this car in it with a lot of details, as well as a side/top/front profile shot. Being in the USA, I knew I would never own one and especially considering how many were made in total, even being able to import some of them by now, would be cost prohibitive. My friends never even knew what this car was but I have always wanted one... beautiful cars. I'll settle for an Esprit though ;)
What a wonderful review of a sports car that caught my interest back in the day. I always assumed they were less well put together than the Alpines of the day (which were not exactly Porsche quality). Wonderful to be wrong :-). I do like the sound of that engine: has more of a GT vibe than supercar.

Nelson Club
Unlucky car maybe, ours came with a few faults but only due to being stood for about 15 years, it’s just done a track day with no issues at all.
We have a blue biturbo in for a few little issues, should be fixed soon and up for sale
I remember these well saw at the Earl’s Court motor show along with things like the lister storm cars of their time but brilliant back in the day
I always liked the UN1 gearbox. First came out in the Renault 30 TS & TX in 1977. Alpine also used it in the GTA and A610 up to 1992.
Third JayEmm video I've watched, third use of the word "bimbling", that's a thumbs up!
I do love a bimble
It was fantastic to see a detailed review of this car- it's one of my dream cars, and James explains very well as to why it is
Yeeeaaaahs!!!!!! Venturi FTW!!!!! Brand that needs more recognition; glad you helped 👍
Thanks John Ashley for this opportunity!
Harald.111’s car adventures!
My pleasure to share these rare cars
my friends dad had one of these way back in the day!!, a lady pulled out on him and relieved him of it a few years back but i have very fond memories!. i cant say i liked the look of it at the time but love how it looks with older eyes....beautiful car!
That one lady destroyed 2% of all the Venturi Atlantiques ever made! 😮
@lebojay yeah, he was absolutely gutted!!, crazy to know they were that rare!!
Love that review. A proper blast from the past as I loved these in car magazines from back in the day.... and I’m from the North West
HOLY CRAP BRO!!! This is a unicorn amongst unicorns!!!
Great opening to your video, great to see a review of something a little bit obscure and very interesting.
Welcome on board!
this guy really knows his facts. the knowledge and ease by which he talks on camera is very impressive. reminds me of clarkson; but even smarter.
Cheers
Thanks a lot for that review - a jewel!
I had a couple of supercar books when I was a young lad. The Venturi featured in both. Always liked the look of them.
Excellent review. Would love to own one of these one day. A boy can dream!
What a GEM of a channel~
I remember i had a book as a child in the 90s of supercars that had an orange mclafen F1 LM on the cover. This was one of my favourite cars in the book along with the lister storm
The 80s were Evergreen; they will never go out of style🌏🌎🌍🌐
I've followed the MVS models - 210, 260 and TransCoupe, Atlantique & 400 GT - for some time, having seen them at various motor shows in the UK. The sole UK importer was Raptor (UK) of Norfolk.
recent fan just now discovering you have hundreds of videos on amazing, rare, interesting cars. and you go over all the interesting details, esp all the strangeness with the engine.
i hope you get to test out a Venturi 400 GT also will you be driving some Marcos cars like the Mantis GT supercharge or a marcos mantaray
I’d forgotten about these. Absolutely loved them back in the day. You say Ferrari 355, I’m saying 348 era! And don’t forget, I think the XJ220 also shared those same wing mirrors👍 yet again, loved the video😎
One of your best vids, subject-wise. 2 thumbs up!! :)
Three thumbs up, just to be on the safe side :D
I love this car. It's mind boggling that they achieved to make such a beautiful car with a windshield from the RENAULT Fuego, side mirrors from the Citroën CX and the rear lights of the FORD Sierra.
I think this would be a solid reference for "how do I inspire the next generation of Petrol Heads?"
By appreciation of the brands who looked up to the Ferraris and the likes of the era.
Grand Turismo is where I know them from. Once saw the F40 shaped 400 on the channel tunnel heading back to France about 4 years ago.
This video certainly is a treat.. thank you for a new review of a rather special old car.. and yes because Gran Turismo.. and I've also seen the young Hamster reviewing the car ages ago btw..
My pleasure, it is doing these kind of reviews I really love
thanks for this great video on this very rare car. Before this video, all i knew was a 2 second segment on topgear when they raced one against a bunch of european cars, perhaps it was the test of the original XJR. Always wanted more information!
Super awesome and rare car. Love it for that. A posh A610!
Thank you for this video, the Venturi has been a favourite of mine for decades. I thought about the Venturi while watching your Alpine GTA video (some more excellent content, by the way) and was delighted to find that you've done the Atlantique 300 as well. For the record, I want one of each....
Very informative review, I also have only ever seen these in Gran Turismo and wondered what the hell it was.
Used to love the other variant of this on gran turismo 2 I think it was. Maybe the intercooler at the rear uses cooling by suction of warm air away instead of forcing cool air in. That is today perhaps it uses the venturi effect from the aerodynamics. A nod to their own name
Amazing video. Deserving more subscribers mate your content is top notch.
Thankyou
I have never watched a video on your channel before, however this is a great overview of such a unique and quirky car. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your content!
Thankyou, there is lots to go through!
@@JayEmmOnCars We live in west wales by the coast between Aberaeron and Aberystwyth. Some lovely driving roads with large car/bike communities around here if you'd ever like to come this way pop me a message I'd be happy to help!
Holy crap, I haven’t seen this car in YEARS! I used to have this Hot Wheels when I was a kid!
Love the straight lines in the rear. Timeless.
Saw this in a magazine about 15-20 years ago and loved the design on it. Forget about years ago until now
What a good looking car. Always liked these, enjoyed this video 👌
The car DeLorean wanted to build.
Doug played gran Turismo, he knows about this car. And what a car, thanks. First review I've ever seen. Worlds first! Well done.
That takes me back - Auto Express Magazine Supercars Edition :)
It looks more like the inspiration came from a 90's Ferrari 456 GT.
And F355.
AND 355

I have never heard of these ,thanks jay for showing it
Here a video on a 2014 Venturi French club meeting for the 30th anniversary of the brand, with 90 cars present :

I remember them from the BPR GT Sports car Endurance racing series which took over from Group C in the early 1990s when sports racers HAD to be based on production cars. They did quite well against F40s and Porkers but not Mclaren GTRs which were a class above. BPR was suceeded by the FIA GT series with Corvettes and Vipers and prototypes along with the Merc SLKs and Porker GT1s which were really prototypes and seriously fast. I think Venturi went bump at the turn of the century.
The Venturi lm400 was a long time favourite car for me .
Bring it on your super reviews!!! Very nice work really, reviewing forgotten cars is the sweet spot right now, sly old fox
I disagree about the sound, but maybe it sounds better from the outside. The sound at 9:39 is exotic, expensive and fast!
They always used to be for sale in top marques in bright yellow and I’d say it’s more of a 456 comparison 👍🏼
Never heard of it, but what a georgeous piece of engineering
Venturi awesome cars from the 90s remember the god old days of these in GT racing & LM 🍺
You got yourself a sub my man. Anyone that refers to politicians as of the devil gets my support!
Very cool video! This is one I had never heard of! Great review of the experience thanks for sharing with us.
Great car and review, could have swore you were in the north east tho!
I really like your style of reporting - great form!
I had never seen, let alone heard of this car before! I think it's uniquely beautiful -- in a very understated way.
Interesting. Thanks!
I always thought that Venturi only made race cars, nice to be proved wrong though, really nice car and a great review, so no need to worry about the first review in 2 decades....you suceeded to do it proud 👍
Much appreciated
There was a few of these used in the British GT, huge big F40 wings on the back. 400GTs I think
I like the clean styling and simple, symmetrical interior.
I first saw this car when a Mr Clarkson reviewed it along with a Renault A610 (yes, like the one in the photo behind you at the start)
Thank you so much for reviewing this.
Remember seeing one on a Clarkson top gear special I got for Christmas in the 1990s
I love these cars, beautiful!!
You are such a good and pleasant reviewer. You deserve 1M subscribers.
I think this car is for sale right now at £40k. Unless there's another in exactly the same colour combo etc. Such a nice car!
If it wasn't for Gran Turismo 2 I wouldn't even know this sports car existed.
This and Vector was a huge surprise for me back in 2000.
What a wonderful review of a sports car that caught my interest back in the day. I always assumed they were less well put together than the Alpines of the day (which were not exactly Porsche quality). Wonderful to be wrong :-). I do like the sound of that engine: has more of a GT vibe than supercar.
It sounds really quiet and refined - is that down to the microphone you used or a feature of the car?
