This is awesome, never tied cider kids before. Seen them in my brewshop tho. Thinking about it. Hope it turns out great! Cheers everyone, happy brewing!
I just bottled a Coopers Canadian blonde kit a few hours ago (withmy own little personal experiemental change). It's the first ever home brew of mine, which I decided to try after watching hours and hours of your videos. Your presenting style and advice inspired me to take the plunge, so thanks for your helpful, calming, down to earth videos - you took away any doubts and fears I thought of with all the videos you have made over the years. I'm already thinking of making other brews - cider being one of them, but thats for the future (walk before I can run). Keep up the good work and entertaining videos Craig ;)
Hey Craig, just brewed my first ever brew, it's cider because both myself and wife drink cider, but I will be doing wine and ale soon. But thank you for your easy step by step lessons. If it wasn't for you I probably would never of tried my own brew.
My son just made this same cider last month. I kegged it for him and it turned out awesome. He went with half of the sweetener pack also.......Take care, Bluefin.
Another great video. I put on a Mangrove Jacks Pink Grapefruit IPA a couple of days ago. Looking forward to that. My next brew will be a Cider kit. I love your videos and I've learnt a lot from them. I'm also a fan of Trailer Park Boys. Thanks Craig.
Great video, Craig! Looking forward to seeing some of the bottling action, I know how much you love that! I bottle here every few weeks and definitely will be switching to kegging once cash and space are more available. Cheers, my friend!
Interesting. Seems like a decent way to make a quick cider. I have been pressing my own apples for a couple years now and making hard cider. It's a great hobby!
Nice video Craig :D Those Cider kits from Mangrove are pretty nice to brew, and usually give a nice cider. I actually use to keg the ciders and that also works out pretty nice. Keep those brewing videos coming... :) 17...
great video mate! You could have added a bit of extra fermentables in that and kegged it that would have been nice out of the keg too I reckon. Also if you added a kit of Coopers Lager or Pale Ale you could have made what they call a "Graff" which is basically malt and apple juice. 17
Bought one of those MJ apple cider kits about 12 months ago, Personally i thought there were just OK. Probably wouldn't buy another one, It was on special but normally they want nearly $50 for a kit. seems a bit steep to me. cheers.
I have come into the habit of using a little more than recommended amount of Wyeast wine nutrient blend in just about anything I brew over 5%abv. Makes a world of difference.
dpj731 most kits are made with the nutrients already added in the concentrate. These kits are intended to make it easier, for example another ingredient you dont add is peptic enzyme.
QUESTION::: When you bottle carbonate a cider, is it the same amount of sugar as you would for beer? i.e. 1 teaspoon sugar for 375ml & 2 teaspoons for 750ml? - also is bottling cider in clear glass corona bottle ok...or should i use dark bottles. Thanks in advance Cheers from AUstralia
It's the same as beer, but I wouldn't use a teaspoon per 375. I use half that. As far as clear bottles, I have not done any experiments. Just keep them out of UV light.
greg williams i have bottled condition in clear bottles and its turns out, but i have them in a closet where it is dark and they onky come out of the closet when i am ready to drink and i the fridge. i also have used clear plastic soda bottles no issues. i lived in Nunavut (middle of nowhere Canada) and he one store realyy had no glass items just plastic soda bottles and they worked out well. i will say i never let it bottle codition in light, even in brown bottles.
greg williams also as for coronas bottles it depends if its twist off? we have some twist off coronas where i live as well as those that are not twist off. twist off bottles dont work well for bottle conditioning some how retwisting the caps back on is not completly air tight. and i heared the bottles are more fragile and not meant for bottle conditioning. i do re use twist off for uncarbonated wine. when i bottle wine in tradtional bottle towards the end im left wih wine but nit enough for a 750 bottle so i reuse my twist offs, but i usually drink it with in the week and not age the twist off. better than tossing good leftover wine :)
I have a question about malting my grains. I'm an all grain brewer, I.e. I malt my grains myself. I have done this a lot, but this time the grains soaking and after soaking smell like puke to me!? Anyone know if this is bacterial or not enough airflow throughout the grains after the first and second soak? Help would be greatly appreciated! Btw, great video as usual Craig!
duane sharp its usually both, too much water and not enouh air circulation. i had a friend how this happened too and he dried the malts in a food dehydrators he got at walmart. then just to feel "safe" he experiemented and toasted the finishe malts. it turned out good. different flavor bc of the toasting but good. but im sure its just too much water and not enough air. they tend to go hand in hand with that.
you play very loosely with your electrics, my friend pulling running water hose from the bucket with your main switches right there. sheesh man :) Great video as Usual Craig keep up the good work ;)
Chris Storey i bet that if i took a swab of your keg and that of craigs it would not be much different in a petri dish. the reason is bc you have been reusing he same keg. sanitizing is not disinfecting and is not sterilizing, so unless you do a few shock treatments inbwtween brewing your keg is probably not much dofferent than craigs.
True, I have a coke keg which are shorter but dumpier than the standard ball lock kegs, its been converted to ball lock, but as its different i use it as my starsan keg and its the handiest thing ever. takes me no time at all to sanitize a keg.
Awesome Craig... Do you think that might come out tasting like a "Strongbow". I will definitely get that same kit. Im in Vancouver so i guess its available here also?? Thank you Carig for the time and effort that you put into videos. I have been watching you for years.. I know you get bored doing the same vids over and over, but i seem to have gotten the craigitis and breakout when i dont see your weekly vids.. Greta job!
Cider... from a kit! It's not real brewing Craig until you grow your own apples in an orchard outside, stomp them, mash them up, filter them, and then harvest and grow your own yeast in a multi-million dollar laboratory. #realbrewingnow Heh, sorry, had to have a joke, I know when I started brewing beer kits years ago, I read endless forum posts how beer from a kit wasn't 'real brewing'. I wonder if those same folk would apply it to cider, hmm.
Peter CAtto the wine is most likely know in secondary fermentor aging. i think that kit will be ready in about two more weeks. personally i let my stuff age six or more months in secondary. i have 7 batches i started in Dec 2016 in secondary. progably bottle my Cranberry mead this weekend. but most kits the minimal is four to six weeks before its ready.
Hi Craig, Great vid as usual but I must have missed something previously. How do I make a donation or was that just a one off? There's no link in the extra info included with the video. I have previously commented on donations or perhaps a Patreon account, don't really know that much about how to do either so without a link I'm stuffed (preferably with a big flashing neon sign pointing to it 😉 😄 ). Cheers Schnuz.
Craig you are a Legend, thanks for all your help from Stephen, Wales in the UK

Like others have posted, its nice to see a brewing video. Thanks Craig.
Nice to see a brewing video again Craig. Keep it up.

Good to see you back brewing Craig! Mangrove jack has a few nice beers too. The Craft series IPA and the Saison are lovely.
Great video, Craig! Looking forward to seeing some of the bottling action, I know how much you love that! I bottle here every few weeks and definitely will be switching to kegging once cash and space are more available. Cheers, my friend!
Thanks for the vid and can't wait to see the end result....take care and 17
I'm thinking of doing one of these kits myself. (For the good lady)
Nice and steady brewday.
Cheers 👍🏼🍺

Hello Craig longtime since I been here ☹️ but Ian back and glad to see your still brewing keep it up👍
another great brewing vid Craig,
you can keg a cider too. I just finished an apple peach cider. it drank very easy. I can't get enough of the brewing videos by the way. Cheers!
Great video Craig. Cheers 17!!
Love the trailer park boys. awesome videos.
Great video - keep 'em coming!
I've been interested in doing a cider kit. I'll be very interested in how that comes out, Craig.
Keep us posted!
looking forward to seeing a taster on that bad boy cheers craig 🍻

I wonder how popular "Graffs" will become after the Dark Tower movie comes out. I have yest to see any commercially available Graff.

Hell yeah TPB! and homebrew!
Thanks again.
With these kits I recommend a yeast nutrient otherwise you will get that rhino fart smell during fermentation.
I have come into the habit of using a little more than recommended amount of Wyeast wine nutrient blend in just about anything I brew over 5%abv. Makes a world of difference.

voltronsupreme - - - Thanks for the comprehensive answer. I really appreciate it
Cheers mate :-)

voltronsupreme that is what I thought too, so I spread them out on the trampoline in the backyard lol. Appreciate it!!
I am on a well and don't use it to brew beer. Can I use RO water with this cider kit?
Chris Storey Why don't you pose this question to the MoB;-) ?
great video today really enjoyed this post. l make those ciders alot my wife liks them. put it in a keg i do it al the time just the same as beer.
Hey Craig..Need a Y or N...
Great video...Cheers 17 Thumbs up..
Great video! How long to you bottle it for before drinking?
you play very loosely with your electrics, my friend pulling running water hose from the bucket with your main switches right there. sheesh man :) Great video as Usual Craig keep up the good work ;)
I'm pretty careful not to squirt water at the panel.
hey I saw you had foam still in the container from the cleaning, is that okay?
Happy 4th of July. I hope watched fireworks there in Canada.
yes or no on the kit? might buy one and put it on tap :)
I always sanitize my kegs no matter how long the beer is in them.
You may be right, but it gives me peace of mind anyway. It doesn't take much to add a few litres of star san.
True, I have a coke keg which are shorter but dumpier than the standard ball lock kegs, its been converted to ball lock, but as its different i use it as my starsan keg and its the handiest thing ever. takes me no time at all to sanitize a keg.

this Mangrove Jack kit probably taste better. Strongbow is fermented corn syrup with artificial flavouring.

Do you need to use an airlock or can you get away without one?
Using municipal tapwater doesn't pose a problem with the chlorine that's added? Won't that be harmful to the yeast?
MJ do some really good beer and cider kits also check out their yeasts too..
Eduardo=Edward craig. Pronounced the same with an o at the end.
lovely m8
Craig you really need to get yourself a pair of glasses, and use them !
thanks!
Enjoy your videos man, however I personally would sanitize any keg I put beer in....that's just me, cheers.
Mangrove Jack do a pretty good range of dried yeasts..
Richard stokes Hard to source here in Canada though.
hello Craig Peter here just like to know what happened to the wine you made never finished with the video nice to hear from you see you next week
