Kit Kat is a chocolate-covered wafer biscuit bar confection that was created by Rowntree's of York, England, and is now produced globally by Nestlé with the exception of the United States where it is made under license by The Hershey Company.
Wow, I had uploaded this commercial back when I was in middle school and I didn't think much of it at the time. I am still dumbfounded by the amount of traction it is receiving to this day; anyway, even though I am currently pursuing a degree in computer science, I still do think persuasive writing is very important. Not only is it important to be able to compellingly express your ideas, but being an effective communicator is essential no matter what career you choose to pursue in the future. When rewatching the ad after a very long time, even as the person that uploaded the video, I too was struggling to find ethos. So I began to wonder, "does this video even contain ethos?". I then googled "examples of ethos logos and pathos" and begun to juxtapose the 3 modes of persuasion (also known as "ethical strategies" or "rhetorical appeals")...
If you take AP English Language and Composition in high school, you are probably aware of the "synthesis essay". In my opinion, the synthesis essay is the most useful essay you will learn to write in any English class you will ever take (during your time in high school).
_Why you may ask?_
Well, you do it in your day-to-day life without even thinking about it. You might not write an essay every day, but if you happen to get sick, you begin to browse multiple websites to better understand your symptoms and then you make a conclusion after analyzing all the information and make the decision whether or not you should go see a doctor. Even right now you probably read or watch multiple articles or videos in the news so that you could better understand COVID-19 and in doing so, you are able to identify patterns and make claims about it to inform others...
(Back to finding ethos in this video and connecting the dots as to why I brought up the synthesis essay)...
I knew that ethos meant an appeal to ethics, but that is really broad and didn't help me. So after glancing over a couple of websites and identifying the differences, between ethos, logos, and pathos, I realized the answer was right in front of me the whole time! By being able to properly utilize your resources and synthesize information, you have a very powerful tool in your arsenal. Ideally, you would want to understand the material from the lesson your teacher teaches you, but sometimes, if you are still having trouble, try taking the initiative and utilize your resources available to you online for free. *With the power of the internet, I believe you can achieve anything!* 🤓

@@epicnessproductionsllc.7638 I refrained from explaining the ethos in this ad because then every student would regurgitate the same ideas without coming up with original ideas. It is more beneficial to do some critical thinking than to plagiarize someone's idea. As I said, my biggest hint/advice is that if you have trouble understanding the differences, look at multiple examples and then categorize every couple sentences of the ad into one of 3 categories (ethos, logos, or pathos). I think logos is the easiest to spot so try doing a process of elimination. For example, when the gentleman talks about the dimensions of the KitKat, think about which of the 3 "tactics" is he using. Sometimes it can be tricky since they can intertwine, but when you frame your response, try responding as "what is the author/ad/person doing...how is the author/ad/person doing what they are doing, and why are they doing it (i.e. to evoke ethos, logos, or pathos)"

Good choice - This ad does not include the "ethos" appeal. However, it does have the language of pathos.
This isn’t ethos the man has no credibility if he states he was the one making them or a consumer stating it was delicious then he’d have some credibility
