I like how u mention “in the real world” as actual scenarios as to how it will be, without unicorns & rainbows. I have an almost identical setup and I love it! I got this belt system for the mere fact that I don’t have to play and noodle around with an inner belt in case of an emergency. Like with other belts, you can always adjust the belt length to be a bit more snug if you’re really that worried about how well it holds on your body. ALSO! GCode rifle mag pouches hold AK and .308 mags very well! I run this setup with my scar.
Yea it's definitely fast to put on and off and yesss haha the G code pouches! I want to try one of those inner belt pads on like a Ronin and see if it makes it work similarly. I like having this belt setup "emergency anything" though. Having a pad would mean keeping nearby somewhere or on the belt all the time...meh Hah thanks for watching and commenting! -Walsh

Looks like this might be perfect for me. Very versatile. Typical battle belts are so bulky and almost too stiff for me, so this could work. I'll have to try one. I love Trex products.
I've used this belt for several months and train every other weekend and they work great. If you put the belt around your jacket/hoodie etc, just make sure to tighten the belt real good (It's really easy to tight and loosen it) especially if you're doing a lot of running, moving on the ground etc. But if you want the belt to not move at all during training you have the option to actually use the inner straps to wrap around your pants belt. You can pre-strap this onto your pants belt and then put the pants on. Or at the range, you can have someone help you put the two back inner straps and then you can just strap the side ones yourself since those two are easy to get on ( just make sure when you do that, you will need to loosen your pants belt real good so you have slack to fiddle around with). If you're shy to ask someone to help you, don't worry, you can also do it yourself but expect to fiddle around with it for a good 5-10 minutes, but with some training, you can built your own process to get it on quickly. Also, if you have to unweave everything out to re-arrange your belt, it's a pain in the butt at first but after several times to doing it, it's not that bad, just get some thing long pliers and a long flat head screw drive to help guide the belt through. I love this belt because when I train at home, I just throw it over whatever I'm wearing.
Haha I'm very familiar with that pant...inner belt... outer belt velcro shuffle. It's possible...but it's definitely an odd dance haha And good call on the pliers. I agree, it's not that bad as I've reset it a few dozen times. I'm actually trying to play with one of the true north modular adapters and connect the holster in that way. LOL! I did not know Warrior Poet Society is a Blue Alpha belt. I bought one from Blue Alpha a couple months ago and love it. Trex was the other one i was considering at the time.
I think the two part belts are the evolution of the battle belt but the Orion still has its place. I would recommend the BAG/warrior poet belt over it but that doesn't mean the Orion is slouch at all. I do wish they would tier it a little differently in price so it's not a direct comparison to the two part belts. thanks for the comment! -Walsh
Good vid. I use the Orion as well. You nailed the pros and cons. It's my #1 1st line go to. I have one for AR and .308 and another for pcc. To me it fits the role better than the ronin but I'm not doing competitive, if I was I would use the ronin.

Nice review. I also play airsoft quite frequently and let me tell you I wholeheartedly agree with your criticism on drop leg holster. In addition to what you said about holster moving since it sits too low and affect draw position, I also noticed 2 big problems. First, when you go kneeling, which is highly likely to happen when you revive a teammate, (irl there would also be a ton of situation when you need to kneel down) your holster is at an complete different angle and drawing from holster changes from vertical to horizontal. Ergonomically speaking it's absolutely awkward. Then, if you use a heavy pistol like a 1911/Staccato/2011 with this platform you're dangling a very heavy object at around your knee level and this thing is pulling on your belt with much more leverage when it start swinging when you run. Every time I sprint for 50 yard or so I have to stop and pull up my pants otherwise I feel like I'm gonna be flying low... I switched to Safariland Mid-ride UBL soon after I started airsofting.

Lots of new entries have come out too so I recommend you shop around a bit. The community is moving away from this style a bit towards the BFG chlk and Axl Eclipse. This is great to throw over clothes in a hurry though! -Walsh
Awesome review! I agree with you on everything you mentioned. The versatility of the Orion in almost every other practical situation other than competition, or if you know a threat is on it’s way, is a great choice. I have an HSGI inner and outer belt system similar to the Orion and I love it! It’s my go-too setup for the range or (hopefully not) bump in the night situations. I’m not always going to have pants with belt loops on them, and this is easy to put in at a moments notice! The idea with the Velcro is news to me and I will be trying that out to increase the versatility of my HSGI system! Great review! #Sub

I'm just using the MOLLE connection. it's not perfect though. I used some ranger bands to lock it in place. The belt ones would likely work better on the Orion though.
I've been looking for my first belt setup and struggling going back and forth between a one piece and a two piece. My biggest concern is adjustability. I really like the Orion outer belt though. How do you think it would work out running a Kore Essential 1.75 Garrison inner belt for quick adjustability?
What about putting the hook side of the Velcro on both sides of the provided belt tabs. Then you can leave the loop side as normal but then put the loop side under the original hook tab. It will be able to attach to your edc belt when you have it on. This method would keep the hook side hiding and not scratch your nice wind breaker when you want to use it as a one piece system. I haven’t tried this just thought about it while watching your video. I am thinking about getting the Orion system if this would work
I would think this would work. The velcro one wrap "hook" side isn't abrasive at all either. I find it gives just enough grip to lock into the belt. But yea you may be on to something. I wish the tabs were hook!
I think there's a break in the logic of arguing that the belt is imprecise. The particular drop/holster combo on the qls may be imprecise but that shouldn't be a representation of the belts precision. Unless the foresaid imprecision is referring to the stability of a one piece belt vs a two piece belt in which case I think the argument is sound.
A little bit of both but I think precise has to do with that garbage drop leg I have and stability is comparing the single Vs two piece. I don't think it's "loose" it's just less sturdy when compared to the two piece. I love them both but they have different applications. The drop leg is horribly imprecise but it works better with a jacket or other random clothes. So it's a trade off of versatility. Good points though! -Walsh
I didn’t really like mine. It was annoying to setup and roughed up the belt loops. I tried out the Kore belts and never went back. The ratchet system is amazing and it’s stiffer than the Orion not to mention how much cheaper it is. The inner belt and outer belt is $120 shipped which leaves room to buy esstac pouches and allows you to buy a complete belt setup for the price of an bare Orion inner and outer belt
You kind of miss the point of the padded belt it’s made to put on over your clothes and go so you aren’t messing with Velcro and inner belts ect if you are worried about trying to get Velcro lined up ect
Brother I'm glad you made this video I was pretty skeptical at first but now I have completely changed my mind. Nothing against T-Rex, I just don't want to go through the hassle on making adjustments and removing the whole belt. I'm stuck between the warrior poet or the senchi belt. Decisions decisions 🤔🤔🤔🤔 🤔 😁 I got it If "YOU" had to choose side-by-side comparison of the Ronin and the Warrior poet which one would you choose. So....I have the Ronin and Cody has the Warrior poet and we both love our choices. So that's me saying....they're both great. The Ronin is a big more rugged and the molle fabric is a good bit more robust. The Ronin also uses one model up cobra buckle ( think its the 45 and WPS is the 35...but I'd have to look at them closely). For Walshy....I say the Ronin. But it IS a lot more expensive for not much gain. The inner belt needs to replaced. The Warrior poet low profile edc belt is fantastic and should be the gold standard for all belts. So if you go Ronin...you need to still buy the Low profile edc belt where it comes with the Warrior poet for like ten bucks more. Both are really great choices and when you wear them...you wouldn't notice a difference between the two. That probably doesn't help much haha Let me know what you pick! -Walsh
Good to know you can still use the belt well when you have a more to love body style lol. I was worried that when i finally get a belt I’m not going to be able to use it. I’m not real big but i do have a belly and no ass so belts always wear weird on me lol. Whats that jacket the brown one you put on last? I like it! Lol .... Haha they're actually both really good as long as you get the right size. Cody likes to tell me he as Tactical girth but he still really likes his two piece belt. The Orion is definitely definitely better if you want to throw it over a jacket though. Haha the brown jacket is my Levi clearance bin jacket. I'll have to see what it is. It was a Kohl's special on coats....in June lol

Just always kinda assumed it would push the top of the belt out putting everything angled away from me. I have to wear my owb holster at the 4 o clock otherwise it’s just very awkward and uncomfortable though that could be the holster style and a full sized fire arm also. Dang I haven’t been to kohl’s in a while I almost forgot they were a thing.... I was just looking at a new jacket and wanted something a little nicer. I’m used to rolling around under cars and other dirty places so most of my stuff looks exactly how you would expect lol. Dang I just referred back to this video to check out some belts.... these things are damn expensive. A belt and all the pouches is easily 200$ then to add on a holster and ifak .... that’s just crazy lol I need a better job
@@itsamk18-ish yea it does add up quickly with all the bits a parts and med kit and magazines. It goes up fast. I think the warrior poet society one is the best bang for the buck. Plus the really nice inner EDC belt is only 10 bucks. I really do recommend the UBL mid ride, a qls, and a mckinatec holster setup though. It makes the whole thing so versatile. I swap guns and belts all time. Even Airsoft. Just swap and ready.

Old video but the med 1 should have a second wider slot so you. An slide it on to the outbelt and don’t have to route the inner belt back out. That’s how mine is anyway, though I now use a war poet/bag belt
For some reason it’s super difficult to figure out what safariland holster you need. I see you’re running a P320. Is there a holster you’d recommend for a P320 X-full with a Romeo 1 pro and PL350? Seems like the modlite is the issue and I’d so I’d honestly ditch it for yet another x300. Thanks

Have you found a Safari land holster and QLS that works with the Sig p320 xcarry with Holosun he507c and a O light Pl-mini valkyrie 2 . I see you are running something similar but couldn't find that light option. Thanks
I have! I actually have a few different ones now. The original one I used was from knightfall customs and then I moved over to Mckinatec. The knightfall is the one on video. We also use 1441 gear and I am trying their holsters out next. With 1441 you can also use code TLDco to save a bit. I have mine on the way to check out in the same configuration you mentioned. First of all thank you for the video. But on the G-Code mag pouches did you buy the plastic things from T-Rex Arms in order to attach them to the belt? Or do they come already ready? Thanks
Gcode has their own connectors. They're connected with P1 and R1 clips but Jason is trying the p3s to see if those fit better on a belt. The P1 and R1s are a bit long and I secured them with ranger bands so they're locked in place. Hope this helps! -Walsh
I've had the most success with gcode or Tyr pouches for Airsoft due to the expansion room built into those mags. Some other mag pouches can fit standard mags too perfectly and the Airsoft versions don't hold properly. For holsters, hit up 1441 gear. You'll get something wayyyy cooler than Amazon. And the Balator integrates directly into a QLS/UBL mid ride/true north modular adapter
The Orion is a one piece belt so it is easier to throw on and off. Not to say the blue alpha gear isn't, but you lose out on how it works. The blue alpha connects into your inner belt and should be sized pretty exactly to fit you correctly... Or it won't buckle at all. So quick donning it over anything just doesn't work out quite the same. It's possible... You just lose out on the advantage of the two piece.

One of the advantages to the orion would be the ability that you can just put it on without having to attach it. Well couldn't you do the same thing with the ronin or wps? U hear a bump in the night and u just attach the outer belt system without the inner belt and go see whats happening? Obviously it wouldn't be as secure, but it would still get the job done right?
Hey I was about to ask this question, ended up getting P1 and unfortunately they don't work that well. Has a lot of vertical sliding up and down. My assumption is he got the P2 or P3. If you already got yours, let me know what worked for you.
@@AMuniz118 Dang! I originally ordered the holsters with the P2 clips but switched to the P1 clips at the last second since the team at G-Code recommended the P1's for that belt. Still waiting to order the Orion belt though, need more funds haha

What Velcro straps did you use? I bought an Orion and want it to stop sliding around when I’m not wearing a jacket. I can’t seem to find any Velcro straps like the ones you used.
$150 for a basic belt pad and belt? I've had a number of set-ups just like this over the years. They're okay, but there is a reason many people graduated to the Ronin, Blue Alpha Gear, and Safe life belts. Good presentation though! 👍
I agree. This is kind of where I started and grew up into a Ronin. I think that's why I don't mind throwing it in the bag of a car and letting it get thrashed a bit. Any other real good belts lately? I keep hearing about Raptor Tactical.
@@ThinLineDefenseCo I run three belt. The Blue Alpha Gear double gear belt (inner/outer), Kore Essentials Garrison as a duty type belt, and the Condor LCS cobra belt is amazingly good for the price. There's a bunch of good belts out there, but personally I think ones like Ronin, Blue Alpha, Safelife, etc.. are a step above the rest. I just think Trex is asking a bit too much for a belt style that's been around for well over a decade. That's all. Nothing against your video. Good video.

Thin Line Defense Co I agree that’s those belt systems are great, but the majority of people are not going to competitions. I can see the advantages of the double belts, but I just want to through something on and go to the range. I hate being constrained by my belt line and having shirts tucked, they always come undone in the worst places, like around the holster or in the back. Ugh. I currently have no battle belt and have been searching. I was headed towards the Blue alpha, but then saw the Orion. I will put kywi pouches on it. I’m down to choosing a color
@@RC.56 I think for that application the Orion is a perfect option for you. I don't always need a "competition" belt like you said. Sometimes its nice to just throw on a belt and use the same one at the range regardless of what you're wearing. Just don't do a cobra belt under it....it's a lesson in frustration. It's definitely not crazy good.grip. it kinda stays on place but not like a 2 piece does. The Orion is tons better to be thrown over a jacket or be put on quickly though. I ran a cobra belt and an Orion and the two belts would interfere with each other. That was a lesson in frustration.
@@SkintSNIPER262 it's definitely not falling off. With a jacket it becomes a lot more firm. I use the velcro straps to connect it to an inner belt so it doesn't move without a coat.
For duty use, I'd recommend a 2 part belt. Either a Ronin or the WPS double molle belt. Both are fantastic and proven options. Wilder Tactical also makes some really great 2 part belts and you can use discount code: TLD to save a bit.

how i managed to get the Pant belt connected to it was just looping it trough the velcro things and not opening them. so like a pant but outside. was frustrated and got a BFG CHLK belt tho
Hah I tried that too... It didn't work well. The bfg chlk is also good but I disliked the large loss in surface area. Have you see the Axl eclipse? -Walsh
@@ThinLineDefenseCo yea i also got the axl for personal use. Just need the hook points of the CHLK. A buddy of mine just cut the tabs of the CHLK and ran it that way but i heard BFG will soon release a version without them from the start. The Axl is amazing but for more than the bear minimum in my opinion too skinny. They focused on keeping it as lightweight ad possible so that is to be expected. Also tried the Ferro bison but the inner belt was meh. The Ronin and CHLK belts are to this day my personal favorites.
@@Nick-hm9rh interesting you want the hook points. I hated them and they aren't authorized for use in any load rated situation... So their load rating is a little tricky in it's usefulness. My issue was far greater. The inner Velcro on the second connection point was almost already destroyed after my small review. It would flop and bend all dumb if any load was placed on it. It only had the small buckle really keeping anything together. From a long term standpoint I did not approve. While I agree my ronin is a more Stout solution, the material of the eclipse gives it tons more rigidity at even higher weights. And adjusting it to fit over a coat is a lot easier than dealing with the fabric hardeners of the ronin. But we all find what works best for us and I'm glad you found one that works perfect for you! -Walsh
so that inner belt is the Orion that they provide? that looks stiff. I've had my Orion for a few years now and my inner belt really isn't anywhere near that stiff, it's pretty soft and loose for me

The trex is just the old single attachment style and there have been a lot of generational jumps since this design. I love this belt but there are better options for less money now such as the HRT or DM mech belt. -Walsh
Yea! So I wear a normal belt to keep my pants up and then this one to keep my gun up haha Sometimes I'll wear the hook lined belt so it has more attachment areas but its really not needed the orion. You don't HAVE to with the Ronin or other two part belts either....but then you lose out on all of the stability the belt offers. That help? -Walsh
I have the ronin senshi and honestly sometimes I just use it without looping it through my pants when I'm lazy. Works pretty well for me but may or may not work for you depending on the fit.

It's a knightfall customs holster that was designed to work with the QLS. You can ask them for it I now use Mckinatec and the qls option is right on the website. Hope this helps! -Walsh
@@squidy4082 the 2 part belt uses an inner and outer belt system. So the inner belt goes through your belt loops and connects to itself. The outer belt then connects into that belt system via hook and loop to get a super strong connection systems. New belts like the axl eclipse even feed into the inner belt and also have hook and loop connection. The single piece belts add an ease of use though as you could more easily throw it over a jacket or just clip it up and go
@@squidy4082 yes, the inner belt loops in and the outer belt connects to that inner belt. Inner belts like the blue force gear low-profile EDC belt also doubles as a great every day carry belt. Then you can throw on a bigger setup if required
Mostly grocery shopping or going for a jog. Anything really. And the slew of radios would signify the "not alone." I get what you're saying though. As an individual this could put you in bad optics as the possible shooter in a situation. Risk management is definitely a consideration. "Grey man" is dumb though. If a 30 year old man has a backpack...I know there is a gun in there. It's not covert and no one is fooled "I bet that guy is going to class" -said no one ever

I definitely chuckle when I see gray man belts or chest rigs. Yes, the equipment can be low profile... but the rifle in your hand kinda gives away the “gray man”.
I disagree. It should only be low enough to clear your armor but otherwise as high as possible. This allows the system to ride on your hip... And not your thigh. Your thigh is a moveable object where your thigh is not. Particularly for a duty weapon, this becomes paramount. A leg strap on your thigh will be in whatever random position if you go to draw. Making for a guaranteed inconsistent draw and you having to fumble for it. On your hip, you can train the position as it's the same every time and when the time comes when you need it, you're not bumbling around Low low drop legs are the most fudd thing ever. It's folks who don't understand the why, but got it on Amazon. -Walsh
@@rjstasio No lol they did not. A holster is a holster. They designed different ride height systems to integrate it. The UBL is actually extremely high and was the original product. The low ride made it so folks could clear their carrier. I like how passionately you don't know what you're talking about but I'd recommend you don't share it in the future. -Walsh
@@rjstasio on that video yes, it uses the horrible leg shroud. But I threw those away because they're horrible. We use ubls or true north adapters like you mentioned. The true north with the 9 toes or arbor arms leg shroud is most preferable. -Walsh

@@ThinLineDefenseCo Yeah, I am at the point of buying one of each to just have for testing. On the Gcode belt they fit good, but still loose at the bottom just enough to notice it. I understand no two belts will be identical. Also on the Gcode belt the pistol mag pouches almost overlap on each other, not sure if that is common on all belts. Other than those two things I love the versatility of the Gcode mag pouches. Going to buy the Orion in ranger green and give it a run. Thanks man, keep up the cool videos.
@@stevefernandez2092 I'm thinking the p3 would be the best on the Orion as you could feed it through the molle and the inner belt for a really tight fit. The pouches really only overlap each other like that with it laying down. When it's around you it makes more room and they're totally fine. You had mentioned the hassle of getting dressed and looping your inner belt and all- you can just toss your outter belt over what you already haven on, if youre really wanting to go from potatoe chips on the couch to Jason Bourne. PJs, Daily Attire, gym clothes, nude- you can literally just throw any kitted out battle belt on, with nothing else. Itll work just fine if you really dont have the prep time to securely fasten it. I mean it with all due respect, I just find it a moot point to say that the Orion belt can be donned any quicker than any other belt. You belts should be sized to you based on the seasons, so you should just be able to throw any belt on in a hurry and run it- example, in the winter , I wear thicker clothes, layers etc so I loosen the hold of my duty belt to allow it to work with the extra layers. In the summer? Im not wearing more than one layer, and its thin, so I tighten my belt back up. If you like the orion, awesome, Im glad you found some good kit that you like. Looks like a nice belt. I just dont see how its realistically , and usably any more “versatile” or quicker/more convenient than literally any other , half decent battle belt on the market. I like good gear, but Ive used regular belts to good success on duty ( Im a Cop), and Ive used tactical belts ( like these) and Ive used traditional big thick leather duty belts. Ive never really had any issue or preference to one over another other than purely comfort. No hate tho man, if nothing else, my comment helps your analytics haha, just wanted to leave my POV.
@@xxCOKERxxPWNxx ahh I see what you're saying! And it's possible...but it's also a pain in the ass and I'll tell you why. And I'm mostly comparing the 2 piece belts versus the Orion here. When I say it's more versatile...it's also sounds like the others aren't versatile which isn't wholly accurate. So on Orion I keep it kinda how you say...a bit loose. I don't really change it around because it's always going over clothes. Now the Ronin...or WPS belt...or Tyr ...or eagle....it's a lot of belts. Need to be sized exactly to the inner belt or they get this weird bunchy hump bubble that just sticks out part of the belt. So if I run it larger in the winter....now I can't use my inner belt because I'm just lump man. But yes you are absolutely right. You can adjust it to fit over a coat. It's a pain in the ass though and definitely not happening quickly. It also has no real means of staying in place so whenever you bend over it'll need fixing. Then when you take your coat off....you gotta go through the whole adjustment again or it's all bubble salad on your belt. So yes a 2 part belt can do exactly the same thing a single belt does. I PREFER the Ronin over the Orion. But the Orion is definitely easier to throw on over bulk without any adjustments needed. You can't just size a Ronin or a Tyr to the season...you have to size it to the circumference needed. So I disagree on that one but disagreement is healthy! Don't mean to sound mean but where did you crawl out from? We have been adjusting belt lengths like that since I could remember. You've making things way more complicated than it is. KIS.
@@TrinityRSV The belt has some significant hardeners that do not make that possible. You have to unthread it from the cobra buckle due to that and then adjust it. But.... obviously you already knew that. -Walsh
I concur. In those all-around this does work well. Interestingly, Ronin does now make an inner pad that turns it's belt into this same style. I'll show that off soon. -Walsh
You'd probably like HSGI's Micro Grip Belt Panel. It's a low-profile padded liner with hook or loop to turn your outer belt into a stand-alone war belt, so you'd have the best of both worlds. www.highspeedgear.com/hsgi/micro-grip-95MG.html
I've seen that! I need to just get one. I did mention that folks could just get that for a 2 piece belt. But then you're adjusting the belt all the time....and mine is perfect haha Do you have to widen yours for the pad and a coat or something? I'd imagine I'd need a small adjustment.
@@ThinLineDefenseCo I don't have one myself, but I've suggested it to you because it's exactly what I would get for a double belt system, to make it more suitable for layering without adding much bulk. You would definitely need to make a small size adjustment to an outer belt to get it over winter clothing and the Micro Grip Panel, but if you have the right sized belt to begin with, you should be fine (for example, the Ronin belts are intended to have enough adjustment to get them over winter clothing).

I got this belt system for the mere fact that I don’t have to play and noodle around with an inner belt in case of an emergency. Like with other belts, you can always adjust the belt length to be a bit more snug if you’re really that worried about how well it holds on your body.
ALSO! GCode rifle mag pouches hold AK and .308 mags very well! I run this setup with my scar.
Yea it's definitely fast to put on and off and yesss haha the G code pouches!
I want to try one of those inner belt pads on like a Ronin and see if it makes it work similarly.
I like having this belt setup "emergency anything" though. Having a pad would mean keeping nearby somewhere or on the belt all the time...meh

I've used this belt for several months and train every other weekend and they work great. If you put the belt around your jacket/hoodie etc, just make sure to tighten the belt real good (It's really easy to tight and loosen it) especially if you're doing a lot of running, moving on the ground etc. But if you want the belt to not move at all during training you have the option to actually use the inner straps to wrap around your pants belt. You can pre-strap this onto your pants belt and then put the pants on. Or at the range, you can have someone help you put the two back inner straps and then you can just strap the side ones yourself since those two are easy to get on ( just make sure when you do that, you will need to loosen your pants belt real good so you have slack to fiddle around with). If you're shy to ask someone to help you, don't worry, you can also do it yourself but expect to fiddle around with it for a good 5-10 minutes, but with some training, you can built your own process to get it on quickly. Also, if you have to unweave everything out to re-arrange your belt, it's a pain in the butt at first but after several times to doing it, it's not that bad, just get some thing long pliers and a long flat head screw drive to help guide the belt through. I love this belt because when I train at home, I just throw it over whatever I'm wearing.
Haha I'm very familiar with that pant...inner belt... outer belt velcro shuffle. It's possible...but it's definitely an odd dance haha
And good call on the pliers. I agree, it's not that bad as I've reset it a few dozen times.
I'm actually trying to play with one of the true north modular adapters and connect the holster in that way. It solves a lot of problems that way.

LOL! I did not know Warrior Poet Society is a Blue Alpha belt. I bought one from Blue Alpha a couple months ago and love it. Trex was the other one i was considering at the time.
I think the two part belts are the evolution of the battle belt but the Orion still has its place. I would recommend the BAG/warrior poet belt over it but that doesn't mean the Orion is slouch at all.
I do wish they would tier it a little differently in price so it's not a direct comparison to the two part belts.

Good vid. I use the Orion as well. You nailed the pros and cons. It's my #1 1st line go to. I have one for AR and .308 and another for pcc. To me it fits the role better than the ronin but I'm not doing competitive, if I was I would use the ronin.

You brought up a couple points i didn't think about. Great video!
Nice review. I also play airsoft quite frequently and let me tell you I wholeheartedly agree with your criticism on drop leg holster.
In addition to what you said about holster moving since it sits too low and affect draw position, I also noticed 2 big problems. First, when you go kneeling, which is highly likely to happen when you revive a teammate, (irl there would also be a ton of situation when you need to kneel down) your holster is at an complete different angle and drawing from holster changes from vertical to horizontal. Ergonomically speaking it's absolutely awkward. Then, if you use a heavy pistol like a 1911/Staccato/2011 with this platform you're dangling a very heavy object at around your knee level and this thing is pulling on your belt with much more leverage when it start swinging when you run. Every time I sprint for 50 yard or so I have to stop and pull up my pants otherwise I feel like I'm gonna be flying low... I switched to Safariland Mid-ride UBL soon after I started airsofting.

Awesome review! I agree with you on everything you mentioned. The versatility of the Orion in almost every other practical situation other than competition, or if you know a threat is on it’s way, is a great choice. I have an HSGI inner and outer belt system similar to the Orion and I love it! It’s my go-too setup for the range or (hopefully not) bump in the night situations. I’m not always going to have pants with belt loops on them, and this is easy to put in at a moments notice!
The idea with the Velcro is news to me and I will be trying that out to increase the versatility of my HSGI system! Great review! #Sub

Great content. Subscribed. What attachment method are you using on the GCode mag pouches with that belt? They have a bunch of different options.
I'm just using the MOLLE connection. it's not perfect though. I used some ranger bands to lock it in place. The belt ones would likely work better on the Orion though.
I could see those 4 velcro straps on the inside of the belt to be able to attach suspenders if needed.

I've been looking for my first belt setup and struggling going back and forth between a one piece and a two piece. My biggest concern is adjustability. I really like the Orion outer belt though. How do you think it would work out running a Kore Essential 1.75 Garrison inner belt for quick adjustability?

What about putting the hook side of the Velcro on both sides of the provided belt tabs. Then you can leave the loop side as normal but then put the loop side under the original hook tab. It will be able to attach to your edc belt when you have it on. This method would keep the hook side hiding and not scratch your nice wind breaker when you want to use it as a one piece system. I haven’t tried this just thought about it while watching your video. I am thinking about getting the Orion system if this would work
I would think this would work. The velcro one wrap "hook" side isn't abrasive at all either. I find it gives just enough grip to lock into the belt.
But yea you may be on to something. I wish the tabs were hook!
I think there's a break in the logic of arguing that the belt is imprecise. The particular drop/holster combo on the qls may be imprecise but that shouldn't be a representation of the belts precision. Unless the foresaid imprecision is referring to the stability of a one piece belt vs a two piece belt in which case I think the argument is sound.
A little bit of both but I think precise has to do with that garbage drop leg I have and stability is comparing the single Vs two piece.
I don't think it's "loose" it's just less sturdy when compared to the two piece. I love them both but they have different applications.
The drop leg is horribly imprecise but it works better with a jacket or other random clothes. So it's a trade off of versatility.

I didn’t really like mine. It was annoying to setup and roughed up the belt loops. I tried out the Kore belts and never went back. The ratchet system is amazing and it’s stiffer than the Orion not to mention how much cheaper it is. The inner belt and outer belt is $120 shipped which leaves room to buy esstac pouches and allows you to buy a complete belt setup for the price of an bare Orion inner and outer belt
You kind of miss the point of the padded belt it’s made to put on over your clothes and go so you aren’t messing with Velcro and inner belts ect if you are worried about trying to get Velcro lined up ect

So....I have the Ronin and Cody has the Warrior poet and we both love our choices.
So that's me saying....they're both great. The Ronin is a big more rugged and the molle fabric is a good bit more robust. The Ronin also uses one model up cobra buckle ( think its the 45 and WPS is the 35...but I'd have to look at them closely).
For Walshy....I say the Ronin. But it IS a lot more expensive for not much gain. The inner belt needs to replaced.
The Warrior poet low profile edc belt is fantastic and should be the gold standard for all belts.
So if you go Ronin...you need to still buy the Low profile edc belt where it comes with the Warrior poet for like ten bucks more.
Both are really great choices and when you wear them...you wouldn't notice a difference between the two.

Haha they're actually both really good as long as you get the right size. Cody likes to tell me he as Tactical girth but he still really likes his two piece belt.
The Orion is definitely definitely better if you want to throw it over a jacket though.

I think the warrior poet society one is the best bang for the buck. Plus the really nice inner EDC belt is only 10 bucks.
I really do recommend the UBL mid ride, a qls, and a mckinatec holster setup though.
It makes the whole thing so versatile. I swap guns and belts all time. Even Airsoft. Just swap and ready.

Old video but the med 1 should have a second wider slot so you. An slide it on to the outbelt and don’t have to route the inner belt back out. That’s how mine is anyway, though I now use a war poet/bag belt

I have! I actually have a few different ones now.
The original one I used was from knightfall customs and then I moved over to Mckinatec. The knightfall is the one on video.
We also use 1441 gear and I am trying their holsters out next. With 1441 you can also use code TLDco to save a bit. I have mine on the way to check out in the same configuration you mentioned.

First of all thank you for the video. But on the G-Code mag pouches did you buy the plastic things from T-Rex Arms in order to attach them to the belt? Or do they come already ready? Thanks
Gcode has their own connectors. They're connected with P1 and R1 clips but Jason is trying the p3s to see if those fit better on a belt.
The P1 and R1s are a bit long and I secured them with ranger bands so they're locked in place.

I've had the most success with gcode or Tyr pouches for Airsoft due to the expansion room built into those mags. Some other mag pouches can fit standard mags too perfectly and the Airsoft versions don't hold properly.
For holsters, hit up 1441 gear. You'll get something wayyyy cooler than Amazon. And the Balator integrates directly into a QLS/UBL mid ride/true north modular adapter

The Orion is a one piece belt so it is easier to throw on and off. Not to say the blue alpha gear isn't, but you lose out on how it works. The blue alpha connects into your inner belt and should be sized pretty exactly to fit you correctly... Or it won't buckle at all.
So quick donning it over anything just doesn't work out quite the same. It's possible... You just lose out on the advantage of the two piece.

One of the advantages to the orion would be the ability that you can just put it on without having to attach it. Well couldn't you do the same thing with the ronin or wps? U hear a bump in the night and u just attach the outer belt system without the inner belt and go see whats happening? Obviously it wouldn't be as secure, but it would still get the job done right?

Hey I was about to ask this question, ended up getting P1 and unfortunately they don't work that well. Has a lot of vertical sliding up and down. My assumption is he got the P2 or P3. If you already got yours, let me know what worked for you.

@@AMuniz118 Dang! I originally ordered the holsters with the P2 clips but switched to the P1 clips at the last second since the team at G-Code recommended the P1's for that belt. Still waiting to order the Orion belt though, need more funds haha

What Velcro straps did you use? I bought an Orion and want it to stop sliding around when I’m not wearing a jacket. I can’t seem to find any Velcro straps like the ones you used.
I use these simple cable ties. They work great and I can add more ties to make them longer if needed.

$150 for a basic belt pad and belt? I've had a number of set-ups just like this over the years. They're okay, but there is a reason many people graduated to the Ronin, Blue Alpha Gear, and Safe life belts. Good presentation though! 👍
I agree. This is kind of where I started and grew up into a Ronin. I think that's why I don't mind throwing it in the bag of a car and letting it get thrashed a bit.

@@ThinLineDefenseCo I run three belt. The Blue Alpha Gear double gear belt (inner/outer), Kore Essentials Garrison as a duty type belt, and the Condor LCS cobra belt is amazingly good for the price. There's a bunch of good belts out there, but personally I think ones like Ronin, Blue Alpha, Safelife, etc.. are a step above the rest. I just think Trex is asking a bit too much for a belt style that's been around for well over a decade. That's all. Nothing against your video. Good video.

Thin Line Defense Co I agree that’s those belt systems are great, but the majority of people are not going to competitions. I can see the advantages of the double belts, but I just want to through something on and go to the range. I hate being constrained by my belt line and having shirts tucked, they always come undone in the worst places, like around the holster or in the back. Ugh. I currently have no battle belt and have been searching. I was headed towards the Blue alpha, but then saw the Orion. I will put kywi pouches on it. I’m down to choosing a color
@@RC.56 I think for that application the Orion is a perfect option for you. I don't always need a "competition" belt like you said. Sometimes its nice to just throw on a belt and use the same one at the range regardless of what you're wearing.
Just don't do a cobra belt under it....it's a lesson in frustration.
Also I concur on not tucking in the shirt!

How do you find the grip of the Orion? Does it shift much when moving? Running, squatting, etc...
It's definitely not crazy good.grip. it kinda stays on place but not like a 2 piece does.
The Orion is tons better to be thrown over a jacket or be put on quickly though.
I ran a cobra belt and an Orion and the two belts would interfere with each other. That was a lesson in frustration.

@@SkintSNIPER262 it's definitely not falling off. With a jacket it becomes a lot more firm. I use the velcro straps to connect it to an inner belt so it doesn't move without a coat.

For duty use, I'd recommend a 2 part belt. Either a Ronin or the WPS double molle belt. Both are fantastic and proven options. Wilder Tactical also makes some really great 2 part belts and you can use discount code: TLD to save a bit.

Hah I tried that too... It didn't work well. The bfg chlk is also good but I disliked the large loss in surface area.

@@ThinLineDefenseCo yea i also got the axl for personal use. Just need the hook points of the CHLK.
A buddy of mine just cut the tabs of the CHLK and ran it that way but i heard BFG will soon release a version without them from the start.
The Axl is amazing but for more than the bear minimum in my opinion too skinny.
They focused on keeping it as lightweight ad possible so that is to be expected.
Also tried the Ferro bison but the inner belt was meh.
The Ronin and CHLK belts are to this day my personal favorites.
@@Nick-hm9rh interesting you want the hook points. I hated them and they aren't authorized for use in any load rated situation... So their load rating is a little tricky in it's usefulness.
My issue was far greater. The inner Velcro on the second connection point was almost already destroyed after my small review. It would flop and bend all dumb if any load was placed on it. It only had the small buckle really keeping anything together.
From a long term standpoint I did not approve. While I agree my ronin is a more Stout solution, the material of the eclipse gives it tons more rigidity at even higher weights. And adjusting it to fit over a coat is a lot easier than dealing with the fabric hardeners of the ronin.
But we all find what works best for us and I'm glad you found one that works perfect for you!

so that inner belt is the Orion that they provide? that looks stiff. I've had my Orion for a few years now and my inner belt really isn't anywhere near that stiff, it's pretty soft and loose for me
It's not super stiff. It may be how I had it supported. It's bendable but certainly not floppy. I like how I can form it to fit in a bag

hmm trying to remember.. Just the normal P1 or R1 clips I think. I didn't do the belt ones because I wanted to use the MOLLE.

How does this stack up to the newer belts that you have tried?
The trex is just the old single attachment style and there have been a lot of generational jumps since this design. I love this belt but there are better options for less money now such as the HRT or DM mech belt.

Yea! So I wear a normal belt to keep my pants up and then this one to keep my gun up haha
Sometimes I'll wear the hook lined belt so it has more attachment areas but its really not needed the orion.
You don't HAVE to with the Ronin or other two part belts either....but then you lose out on all of the stability the belt offers.

I have the ronin senshi and honestly sometimes I just use it without looping it through my pants when I'm lazy. Works pretty well for me but may or may not work for you depending on the fit.
Haha I also just throw on the senshi ....even without an inner belt. It'll usually stay just fine.
Over a jacket though? I probably have it set too tight for that.

It's a knightfall customs holster that was designed to work with the QLS. You can ask them for it
I now use Mckinatec and the qls option is right on the website.

If these don’t fit threw normal belt loops how does it stay on ?
It stays on with friction. The pad on the inside is super grippy. It's not AS secure as a 2 part belt...but it's nice.

@@squidy4082 the 2 part belt uses an inner and outer belt system. So the inner belt goes through your belt loops and connects to itself. The outer belt then connects into that belt system via hook and loop to get a super strong connection systems.
New belts like the axl eclipse even feed into the inner belt and also have hook and loop connection.
The single piece belts add an ease of use though as you could more easily throw it over a jacket or just clip it up and go

Your using the safariland drop holster thigh mount up to high that's why you don't like it that style is meant to be lower on your leg.
I disagree. It should only be low enough to clear your armor but otherwise as high as possible.
This allows the system to ride on your hip... And not your thigh. Your thigh is a moveable object where your thigh is not.
Particularly for a duty weapon, this becomes paramount. A leg strap on your thigh will be in whatever random position if you go to draw.
Making for a guaranteed inconsistent draw and you having to fumble for it.
On your hip, you can train the position as it's the same every time and when the time comes when you need it, you're not bumbling around
Low low drop legs are the most fudd thing ever. It's folks who don't understand the why, but got it on Amazon.

The UBL is actually extremely high and was the original product. The low ride made it so folks could clear their carrier.

We use ubls or true north adapters like you mentioned. The true north with the 9 toes or arbor arms leg shroud is most preferable.

Those are P1s. I wish I could experiment with what one fits best on what.

@@ThinLineDefenseCo Yeah, I am at the point of buying one of each to just have for testing. On the Gcode belt they fit good, but still loose at the bottom just enough to notice it. I understand no two belts will be identical. Also on the Gcode belt the pistol mag pouches almost overlap on each other, not sure if that is common on all belts. Other than those two things I love the versatility of the Gcode mag pouches. Going to buy the Orion in ranger green and give it a run. Thanks man, keep up the cool videos.

The pouches really only overlap each other like that with it laying down. When it's around you it makes more room and they're totally fine. I was worried they'd be all jammed together too but it works great.

You had mentioned the hassle of getting dressed and looping your inner belt and all- you can just toss your outter belt over what you already haven on, if youre really wanting to go from potatoe chips on the couch to Jason Bourne. PJs, Daily Attire, gym clothes, nude- you can literally just throw any kitted out battle belt on, with nothing else. Itll work just fine if you really dont have the prep time to securely fasten it. I mean it with all due respect, I just find it a moot point to say that the Orion belt can be donned any quicker than any other belt. You belts should be sized to you based on the seasons, so you should just be able to throw any belt on in a hurry and run it- example, in the winter , I wear thicker clothes, layers etc so I loosen the hold of my duty belt to allow it to work with the extra layers. In the summer? Im not wearing more than one layer, and its thin, so I tighten my belt back up. If you like the orion, awesome, Im glad you found some good kit that you like. Looks like a nice belt. I just dont see how its realistically , and usably any more “versatile” or quicker/more convenient than literally any other , half decent battle belt on the market. I like good gear, but Ive used regular belts to good success on duty ( Im a Cop), and Ive used tactical belts ( like these) and Ive used traditional big thick leather duty belts. Ive never really had any issue or preference to one over another other than purely comfort. No hate tho man, if nothing else, my comment helps your analytics haha, just wanted to leave my POV.

And I'm mostly comparing the 2 piece belts versus the Orion here. When I say it's more versatile...it's also sounds like the others aren't versatile which isn't wholly accurate.
So on Orion I keep it kinda how you say...a bit loose. I don't really change it around because it's always going over clothes.
Now the Ronin...or WPS belt...or Tyr ...or eagle....it's a lot of belts. Need to be sized exactly to the inner belt or they get this weird bunchy hump bubble that just sticks out part of the belt.
So if I run it larger in the winter....now I can't use my inner belt because I'm just lump man.
But yes you are absolutely right. You can adjust it to fit over a coat. It's a pain in the ass though and definitely not happening quickly. It also has no real means of staying in place so whenever you bend over it'll need fixing.
Then when you take your coat off....you gotta go through the whole adjustment again or it's all bubble salad on your belt.
So yes a 2 part belt can do exactly the same thing a single belt does. I PREFER the Ronin over the Orion. But the Orion is definitely easier to throw on over bulk without any adjustments needed.
You can't just size a Ronin or a Tyr to the season...you have to size it to the circumference needed. So I disagree on that one but disagreement is healthy!

You'd probably like HSGI's Micro Grip Belt Panel.
It's a low-profile padded liner with hook or loop to turn your outer belt into a stand-alone war belt, so you'd have the best of both worlds.

I don't have one myself, but I've suggested it to you because it's exactly what I would get for a double belt system, to make it more suitable for layering without adding much bulk.
You would definitely need to make a small size adjustment to an outer belt to get it over winter clothing and the Micro Grip Panel, but if you have the right sized belt to begin with, you should be fine (for example, the Ronin belts are intended to have enough adjustment to get them over winter clothing).
