The song for Hawaiʻi is actually a now famous medley of two songs: “Somewhere over the Rainbow” and “What a Wonderful World” recorded by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole from 1988. The original ”Somewhere over the Rainbow” is from the 1939 classic film ‘The Wizard of Oz” 20 years before Iz was born. According to Wikipedia, The medley has topped the World Digital Songs charts a record 358 times/weeks (over 7 times more frequently than the 2nd place song Psy’s ‘Gangnam Style’ at 50 weeks), and has only failed to rank somewhere in the chart only once since it’s inception.
@@firebird7479 Sounds like a generational thing. Another British RUclipsr I follow knows that Seattle is the birthplace of grunge: Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains.

@@jariemonah That is the problem with this video. There is no context to any of it. I get that they used a Jackson 5 song for Indiana because the Jacksons are from Gary, and a Stevie Wonder song for Michigan because he's from there but a lot of people do not get the connection. A lot of people think Elvis is from Memphis, but he's from Tupelo, Mississippi. Professionally I am an editor with 20 years experience in broadcasting. Context is everything. That's why this doesn't make sense.
I think that the original vid should've made the music just a little bit longer for each State as it switches from one song to another too fast. The drawings were outrageous.
I've seen many similar videos, good on you for picking the best one. I watched it recently and binge-watched his channel. Some people who use similar formats reuse a lot of tropes and identical characters. This video did good to differentiate.
Love that Texas got two songs. George Strait is a LEGEND in Texas. Pantera are Dallas natives, we love them here.. Selena would’ve been the perfect third song,.. and Mike Jones from Houston to represent the hip hop scene
The song "Over the Rainbow" came out 20 years before Hawai'i was made a state. But, this version of the song is sung by IZ Kamakawiwo'ole, who is definitely Hawaiian.
Not quite, some states come off well. Country Roads for West Virginia, Freebird for Alabama (agree, should have been Sweet Home Alabama, but at least it's not a diss), Georgia on my Mind for Georgia and Dust in the Wind for Kansas (not a reference to the Dust Bowl days, but a great song by the Kansas band called Kansas). But a lot of the choices were way puzzling.
Interesting that the photo background for the state of Kansas is the bottom part of a photo of Union Station and the downtown skyline of Kansas City Missouri. Just goes to prove, that people think Kansas City is in Kansas, but they are picturing Kansas City, MO.
Agree. The best sign would be Ohio by the Black Keys. But I think the maker of the video was looking to stir up some shit, and Ohio is always a target in videos about the states.
Pumped up Kicks for Colorado?! Really?! That is DARK. Not totally incorrect, but dark as hell. To clarify, they picked that song to represent the Columbine High School shooting and maybe the Aurora movie theater one as well. And the guy who wrote the South Carolina one is from Pennsylvania. And Somewhere Over the Rainbow the original would be my pick for Kansas.
Nice seeing you react to Wojak content...I recommend the channel called, Born Hell, where most of the videos are, "You were born in the (certain decade) in (various countries)...with relevant music. For example, "You live in the 50's in..." There is also, for example, "You are British during..." which has different events in said country, also with music...
An odd list. It's hard to tell what the criteria were for picking the songs. With all the songs about California, why YMCA, for example? Some choices I might have made: Arizona by Mark Lindsay California Dreaming by The Mamas and the Papas Back Home Again in Indiana by any number of artists (Red Nichols, maybe) For Louisiana, Mardi Gras in New Orleans by Professor Longhair Massachusetts by The Bee Gees For Tennessee, Rocky Top by The Osborne Brothers
Florida really is the Swanee river as technically it’s our state song. The second Florida one represents the massive Cuban influence in Miami, Orlando it’s more Puerto Rican. The further north you go up the state the more cities disappear and random backwoods reckneck places become common. Basically if you’re not white and speak like them you better keep to the highway and gas up in Gainesville and Tallahassee then make for Atlanta. The last major stop in Florida is Gainesville which is the university town and Tallahassee the state capital but after that you have to gun it to the border because there’s nothing to really look at for 8 hours during the trip. Honestly it’s just the Florida border tourist stop and then nothing but grassland and the occasional farm maybe a business but not much else until you hit Atlanta.
These are the types of comments of why the South gets a bad wrap. I assume you've never spent a great deal of time around North Central Florida. If people really had the mentality of "If you aren't white and speak like them get away from there..." If that were the case, almost half the population there wouldn't be black. I've spent a bit of time down near the Suwannee River and people really get along there and would give the shirt off their back to help you out. I find it incredibly ignorant to stereotype a group of people because of their accent.
Wow, they really went there on Colorado..... Kansas is from well.... Kansas. Slipknot is from Iowa, and Pantera is from Texas so those made sense. Nebraska threw me off for a second using Korn, but then remembered the state is known for corn farming lol
Pumped Up Kicks for Colorado is a straight up troll pick just because Columbine Highschool is in Littleton, CO. Song didn't come out of Colorado, the band is from California lol
Some of these were over my head too. I'm from Indiana and I don't get why they use the Jackson 5 song "I want you back" instead of their song "Going back to Indiana"???
This is terrible! The guy that put this together has no context to anything he's doing. New York without Frank Sinatra "New York, New York" or Billy Joel's "New York State of Mind"?

Ohio should be "we don't give a damn for the whole state of Michigan" by TBDBITL
This version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow is a remake of the song from The Wizard of Oz, as sung by Dorothy (Judy Garland)

Lmao this video is basically a troll of people from every state
yep

The Massachusetts band is the Drop Kick Murphys from Quincy, Massachusetts, U.S. Fun/Funny band! :D
IZ from Hawaii sang this song and it is a famous version, The Sone is from the movie Wizard Of Oz and has been done many rimes from many singers

Hawaii is the ukulele playing. “Over the Rainbow” is from The Wizard of Oz set in Kansas and Oz.
I love that my home state is represented by Nirvana and that it ISN'T Smells Like Teen Spirit. And T didn't know the song... he must remedy that.
As an Ohioan, I’d like to request a do-over 🤦🏻♀️😂
Me too. Wtf even was that song? 😂
@@ImOutOfMtDew Sounded like Lil B. Terrible either way. Ohio by Neil Young would be better
yeah as I said before I read this But Ohio Players would have been a good choice. I don't wtf that (I guess you can call it a song) was.

6:51 Gravity Falls theme song
2:00 Well this is Dani California by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Better songs to represent New Jersey like Bruce Springsteen's "Jersey Girl" or "Jungle land".

North Carolina should also have Raise Up by Petey Pablo. 😂
Yes!!!
Texas & Washington had the best..... Pantera & Nirvana

A better one for Montana is John Denver's 'Wild Montana Skies'.
Thats what I was thinking
Your confusion at who Lynyrd Skynyrd was *hurt* me to my soul.

Arizona by Mark Lindsay
California Dreaming by The Mamas and the Papas
Back Home Again in Indiana by any number of artists (Red Nichols, maybe)
For Louisiana, Mardi Gras in New Orleans by Professor Longhair
Massachusetts by The Bee Gees
For Tennessee, Rocky Top by The Osborne Brothers
Ymca was for San Francisco. If you don't get it I can't help you. Lol
House of the rising sun for Louisiana would be good too.
Why wouldn’t they do sweet home Alabama instead of freebird for Alabama???
As someone raised in Alabama, I am just glad they didn't use something like Southern Man by Neil Young
I am disappointed by the lack of dueling banjos.

The first one was "Free Bird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd, I think it was supposed to be "Sweet Home Alabama" ??
Best song to represent Idaho is "Idaho" by The Four Seasons.
That was a bad rep for Ohio State. They could have used the Ohio Players or Bone thugs and Harmony
Hawaii music instrument, Ukuele.
How are you just realizing Family Guy is based in Rhode Island? They make many references to it.
