The blind Methodist poet who most often styled herself “Fanny Crosby” of- fers her own understanding of the historic Wesleyan doctrine of the assurance of our forgiveness by God. Charles Wesley had written a poem on or just after the day of his conversion experience in which he called this assurance an “antepast” (a foretaste) of heaven (see United Methodist Hymnal 1989, no. 342). Fanny Crosby understands the experience of divine forgiveness similarly as “a foretaste of glory divine.”
