i love this idea. who is the one to call to come out and check the thermal to see if there is any issue like what he is saying through the windows and or walls?
@@flippinglosttreasure usually your local power company will come out and do an energy audit for free, and they might have energy efficiency subsidy programs as well.
Dave, call your electric and/or gas companies. Ask if they have a program where they send someone out to see what is causing your large bill. Our electric company offers a program at no cost where they inspect your house for anything you can do to lower your bill, including windows, insulation, etc. See if yours offers this service.
I was in the window business for years. It’s not going to pay for itself in your lifetime!!! Put some solar screens on the outside and stop it that way. Also awnings work well
Call the electric company use and tell them you want them to come out and check your meter and box that you think something is wrong that your electric bill shouldn’t be that high I live in Texas and it is free here to have them do that they said we needed a new meter box it’s worth a shot ! Good luck love both your channels
Dave, I work at Lowe’s. We just replaced all of our windows within the last 2 years cause they were original from 1965. Keep in mind I do get a 10% employee discount on the product but total is was $22,000 for 13 windows and labor but 5 of them were huge windows. We usually have sales on windows around the holidays so I’m guessing Memorial Day and we usually run financing promos around then so if you have our credit card or get it you can do 24 months no interest financing if that promo is going on. That’s what we did. I’m in Minnesota though and I know prices are different but no way it would be $70,000.
Look into your weatherization program through your electricity company. Free audit and they sometimes offer low cost windows Fannie may home improvement loans another option
We did Window World 3 years ago. 9 windows including a huge bay window. $7000 installed. Our neighbor just used the same company. Same amount of windows. He paid $10000. Your quote was ridiculous!!
I live in Miami, FL. Did my whole house , all hurricane proof, about 12 windows, 2 sliding doors, front door, 2 big solid store front windows and a big front window about 12 feet high. Was close to $60k. Obviously down here it's pricey. So guess depends what you were getting quality wise. But they are pricey. We had several quotes, didn't go with the cheapest because didn't like their window manufacturer.
I hired a local company because Window World gave me a crazy price… I paid $9600 for 11 windows, 3 of them are door sized. Mine are tinted and double “walled”? It made a huge difference in electricity bill and sound. My bill was cut in half monthly. My house was built in the late 50s and quote was less than an hour. Get a few quotes!
I'm in south carolina I got a double door and a window replaced 650.00 for the door 350.00 for the window charged me 1500.00 total definitely check around
No way windows are that expensive! I literally just did an addition to our home that was 850 square feet and it has 7 windows and 1 set of French doors and the whole addition cost $124,000. So, that's an insane quote for just windows
Dave, i'm in a similar aged house and have a childhood friend who sells windows and checked mine out. First, he use to sell cars and told me car-salesmen are less full of it than some window guys, which says a lot (no offense to any car-salesmen out there or window guys). He told me unless I plan on living there until the day I die I would be wasting my money in terms of energy savings. As the energy savings spill for windows is mostly complete bs. The cost of energy is just going to increase over time and ruin a large amount of the energy "savings" window companies claim, in comparison to the upfront cost for replacements. (That is coming from a window guy, not me). My uncle, who is an electrician, ended up replacing our breaker box to bring it up to code, and we ran new insulation through most of the house during a remodel and the amount i spent on that is no where near the cost of affordable new windows and provides a much greater energy savings in my opinion. I get this isn't what you are looking to do, but I mentioned it since it shows the cost value vs new windows. On advice of my buddy I ended up putting solar film tint on some of my windows, and used solar black out blinds/shades on others, re-caulked em, and called it a day. Sometimes the most simple solution is the best. Also, I have a relative who replaced all of their windows on a beach house which had more windows than you mentioned, were hurricane graded, and the quotes were 10's of thousands of dollars lower than what you mentioned. That sales guy was a scumbag and that says something coming from a lawyer. At the end of the day power companies are just ripping us off left and right with their prices anyways. Who knows if anything would actually change that. Good luck!
Sounds like you got a quote from Anderson Windows, they gave me a quote for one slider $7k. Ended up going with energy efficient Cascade Windows, much less expensive. Also check into solar, there are energy rebates (maybe still) on your taxes. I’m in AZ large house and my summer bill is always less than $300.
I live in California and we had a similar window experience. For 14 windows, one slider and the front door the first quote we got was $65k (front door was about $5k of the total and slider $10k…so each window was $3,500 on average). The second quote from another company was $120k. Both were after a 2-3 hour presentation. We said, no thanks… we will keep looking.
depends on the quality of doors and windows. You can put in 200$ windows from home depot and waist all that money or the top of the line windows 500-1200 each. Then take the window cost and multiply it by at least 2 times for labor. There is a shortage of workers willing to do remodel work and sometimes you get what I call I don't want to do it price from a contractor
Dave, it depends if they were vinyl or wood/clad windows. Also if they were bending coil on the outside. There are alot of vinyl window measure/install youtube videos and you could do yourself. Plan about $300 ea. Of course, I work in the construction business in this area.
We got windows (North Carolina) last year and spent around 8k for 7 windows plus a free storm door. I outright refused to make my wife be there and a few days later they called back to setup a quote. The guy told me they basically require both partners so you can't use the "I'll have to ask my wife and get back to you" excuse after the quote.
Get a home energy assessment, also known as a home energy audit they pressurize your house buy putting big fans in your external doors and then they can find where the air gets out also from what i seen of your windows in past videos they probably need replacement get multiple pane windows but keep in mind the in Florida it is always a good idea to keep drapes closed or when you look into new window get ones that also help reflect the sum out instead of letting heat in also house in Florida need insulation to it not just to keep cold out but cold in also but do a home energy assessment you will be very surprised what you find and some energy company even help offset the cost
I really recommend you look into solar... atleast get the information. Yes we still have a monthly payment but that payment is less than half of what our monthly electric payment was and instead of just throwing that money away we are now putting the money into the panels we will eventually own.
Hi Dave, don't think windows will really save you that much. You really have to wait until your kids start moving out lol. Also the size of The house. We had a brand new large house about 13 years ago then decided to sell it with electric bill around 700. Then we moved closer to family in a house half the size and our bill is still around $550.
OMG $77,000! I would definitely get another quote check out a family/ small business. He sounded like a bigger company. But even before replacing your windows I’d figure out where all that energy is going. I’m in one of the most corrupt state. And my electric bill in the middle of summer is no more than $275 (and that includes my water because my town combines it on one bill) Good luck!
We had a 3600 sq ft home and got a quote of $14k for every single window . Granted that was in 2020. I’m 20 mins outside of Atlanta. Also, don’t use stores like Home Depot or Lowe’s. They just give the job to the lowest Joe Smo of the street bidder. Support your local businesses! But be sure anyone that does work on your home is licensed and insured. Ask to see their policy, and actually call the insurance company to ensure it is not a false document. One more thing, if they ask for the money up front, that’s a red flag. Some contractors will require money for the supplies and that’s normal. But the entire amount is not. Can you tell I’ve been screwed over before? Lol. Lesson learned, I just hope to save others from the same heartache we went through.
Dave+ we went through the window nightmare a year ago (Tampa resident) to went through 3 quotes /presentations. The quotes ranged from 16k to 68k. To be honest, the product was the same between each company, we obviously went with the 16k quote. We had a nightmare salesman on one of the quotes, basically had to kick him out of the house.
We hired a man that owned his own company and it did not cost us much. we paid for the windows after he gave us measurements and then we paid for his labor. Less then $5000
Might lookup Salvage demolition pros out of Naples Fort Collins Florida you may be able to buy some slightly used hurricane windows to have installed.. depending on the odd sizes in your house, might help with some of your utility costs, they do have a RUclips channel..
My husband and I have been contractors for over 30 years. Do not listen to those contractors. If they need to provide you with a crazy pitch, then they are not real contractors. Go to a local (not Lowe’s or Home Depot), but a local building supply company and ask them to recommend a contractor. Angie’s has called us a million times to request we sign up. We will not. If you can find a contractor not begging for work, then you have found someone who you should hire. You do not need to be there for a contractor to quote you. They can absolutely email you.
I did my windows last year and it was not even close to that price, unfortunately it’s still going to be expensive, windows roof and any hvac is usually the priciest on a house, luckily I do hvac so I saved myself like 12k doing duct work and a new unit myself
You need to check the building codes in your area. Most areas require a permit to do any doors or windows. You can be fined and possibly mess up the sale of your home in the future Good luck!
First thing I would do is have an assessment (blower door test / thermal camera). This will tell you where to focus your time and money. Your home will more than likely benefit from air sealing and possibly more insulation. That will generally give you the best bang for your buck.
You can get a thermal camera that attaches to your phone and check all over the house for leaks and temperature variances. That's a good ADHD side quest anyway.
I replaced 4 doors and 4 storm doors installed for $10,000.00. Following year, replaced 16 windows for $7400.00. That company is taking advantage of anyone that they can.
Since I moved to Florida anything I do to my house I feel likeI am being ripped off. There has been a boom in Florida. Even insurance is outrageous in my opinion.
I’m not sure the windows are your issue. Before spending the money you need to find out where you are losing the heat/air. It could be insulation. Someone with a heat sensor can come in and tell you.
We are doing 4 to 5 st a time. Ours are old wooden ones that are very bad and we get Winter here up North!! Had Pella do them, and happy. But yes very pricey. Sliding doors are best replaced with French doors. We had a door with storm door done last year and it was 5,000.
We replaced the windows and doors on the front of our house in Florida which is South Facing. It was 4 large windows and 1 door with a side window. We went with New South and it was expensive around $6.9k however we have saved about 25% on our electric since replacing them. I really think $77k is crazy unless you have a lot of windows! Get a few more quotes because that is crazy. Good luck my friend!
I have JEA I’m assuming where you are that you have FPL. Regardless, most companies you get your electricity from, offer a free energy efficiency audit. Call them and schedule one even if they have a fee. They’ll look at everything and let you know what they recommend what you can do to improve your energy efficiency. And what will give you the best bang for your buck. It could be something besides windows. It could be insulation or a lot of other things or a combination. Either way they’ll look at everything and find ways for you to save. There are so many things that have changed since the 80’s. Just my opinion… PS those windows on your garage door shouldn’t be replaced. They are part of a panel that a garage door company can replace. My door has 3 or 4 panels stacked on top of each other. I had to have the top panel that has 4 windows replaced a few years ago because the panel itself was bent. My windows on the door don’t open, they are purely decorative. I don’t know why someone would suggest that they should be replaced. Your electricity company can tell you about that too.
Oh Dave get another estimate that one is ridiculous also kids tend to never shut off lights.. change all bulbs to LED and monitor the lights on when not needed. i know you can save.. also adding more insulation to the attic helps you can get some blown in . and none of that will cost you that much see how that helps.. as for the doors replace the rubber around the doors...❤❤🌹
I just built a new house that has crazy big windows(~25 of them) and 8 foot exterior doors. I bought fairly high end(Marvin brand) and I think they cost ~$25K. Installation was part of the framing cost, so I'd expect maybe an additional $2k to install.
We live on a golf course and have to replace windows almost every year. They are pretty big windows as far as windows go and it’s about $500 for the glass. We have not replaced the frames - maybe that was in than quote?
Don’t get slider doors again, a few year I replaced my with double window pane French doors. Looked nicer , easier to open, the blinds are inside, so opening and closing blinds is easy. I did notice a decrease in light bill. Because all my house has double pane windows. I have window seats in the family room and you can rest, read and you never feel the heat. I love the French doors. It only has one door and the rest are all French windows. I can’t remember how much it was but I know not that much( I’m frugal) I do live in south Texas so the heat is hot!!
Way to go Dave. You got Kevin to start selling plush and now my local goodwill, only one within an hour, no longer even puts plush on the floor! Yes, I know this is probably not the exact reason (but its fun to say out loud), however the last 2 weeks they changed the aisle and removed ALL plush and toys and they are no longer going to the floor at all.
I guessed right. Every contractor I’ve talked to since Covid its cost of materials x 4 is the price they will quote here in VA. You getting solar would probably be a better investment.
South FL native here, same issue with electric bill. First, have an insultion company come out and inspect. New insulation could solve a large portion of the problem. Old/no insulation in FL homes is a massively overlooked issue. ☀️😅❤
A.C. = Too Many BTU'S...Charge your system & clean it..Maybe Window Units for The Upstairs Rooms..The Can Be Turned Off when The Kids Go to School...For 8 - 10 Hrs. Per Day...
I've told a couple buyers that wanted to return an item ( because they bought wrong item or didn't like it ) I would only refund cost of item minus the return shipping charge, as item description was accurate.
When he said “ no Tina has to be here” that would have been it! Ok well i guess we are finished now bye!!!! Just go to Lowes or Home Depot. And do not tell them about this quote, well don’t tell any business about this ridiculous quote. I paid a total of $1600 from Home Depot at our last house for french doors.
Way too high for windows. I worked property management company we would just buy the windows and have a crew install. I would suggest having a contractor come out and give estimate and measure for the windows. Every installer measures differently so make sure the ones that measure do the instal. Make sure the installer also wraps if you have siding, tell them you want to see the caulking/foam/insulation before they cover to make sure all are done.
Those window companies are scammers. We just replaced our windows with white vinyl grid ones. Our house is just a 1200 sq ft, but we had the windows measured and just went and ordered our own windows from Lowe’s, then had a contractor install them. Only cost us $4500. Even if you had custom sized ones and much larger house, it couldn’t be more than $20,000 tops! Our electric bill had gone down $100 a month already.
If you buy the windows yourself you won’t be paying a padded amount for them. Then it’s just installation cost. We had an estimate from a local window company and it was $6500, so we saved $2000 purchasing the windows ourselves.
Yes, get 3 quotes from other window company. I did replaced my whole house windows (22 windows) 10 years ago and it cost me about $20K. Each windows are 3panes. The guy who give you a quote of $77K is out of his mind.
I had my windows done by lowes. 16 windows with blinds in the windows 2 doors with blinds in windows. 1 main door. 16,000. If you special order from home depot they will charge a 20 percent restocking fee. Lowes does not charge a restocking fee for special orders. The windows were installed in 2019
Was it any chance the company Renewal by Andersen? I installed windows and their prices are outrages. They have "Sales" that say you save $400.00 per window so that tells you how bad their prices are when they can afford to give you that much off. Yes sliders can cost 3 to 4 grand a piece plus installation but they are nuts on their prices.
dave don't do anderson. i remember my guy doing the lightbulg test... they make you sit threw all that and you have to say yes... or you lose a discount... forget that...we got window somewhere else....
Dave - Regarding the windows... Same thing here. Wasted about 2 hours & was significantly higher. We went to Lowes and did double pane vinyl for our NOT forever home and was like a 1/2 of the other original guy... They are great too. But I would encourage you to look elsewhere, than Lowes (as they 2nd tier it to another - they don't do anything but make the connection), too AFTER you gain the understanding of the differences in systems / features and such at Lowes. My 2cent - take or leave it.
We had our windows done 4 years ago. It was 9 windows for 12 thousand with a local windows company. If I could do it over again I would have gone with a general contractor or smaller companies. Windows do not need to cost that much. That company who did my windows then quoted me 12 thousand for two outside doors.......we politely declined the door cost
Now ask yourself why Mercari has turned in this new direction. Write down you're prospect answers. Why would a company turn about face and clearly loose revenues in the process? Whats the end game and dont think short term revenue/competition.
I allow returns on ebay. I sell mostly men’s and women’s clothing. My rate of return is 6 percent. I am curious if that percentage is similar for other ebay sellers?
A friend of mine who lives in a small house with her son in TN decided she needed new windows. I think her house is about half the size of yours. She nearly had a heart attack because they quoted her $60,000.00 My mom had her house done before Covid and it was $5000.00. I think they are super marking shit up. I mean the door if it’s 1700 at Lowe’s then the wholesale would be says grand or a little less. So if they can get it wholesale or have to buy it retail still tripling it would be no more than six grand and that leaves 13000 for labor. No labor is worth that. I don’t care for anigis list my old boss tried to get on it but wanted me to research it first and they charge the contractor when people just see you in a search listing and again when they are clicked on and again if the person calls or emails and then again if they are chosen by someone. I can see the click and the chosen. However at least at that time they were making eBay fees look good in comparison. Yeah I fought free returns for years and then when things did come up it didn’t matter so I finally just went with the flow and it does work better.
That salesman sounds ridiculous. I just accepted a quote to replace all my windows and doors. I sent the guy some photos, had a 20 min phone call, he sent me the quote and someone is coming this week to measure up.
Change all.of your lights to LED and things will use less electricity. Look above you in the garage! You are loaded with lights on all the time. Change them to led lights and save a bundle. I've already told you about pvc panels. They are the best ever!!! The savings will cover the cost of getting them. The feds have money to help pay for them, I think, but am not certain, even if your state doesn't. We did not put ours on the roof, knowing that when the roof needs redoing, it would be double expensive. But if you put on an insulated metal roof at the same time, you could put them on it easily.
I hate sales pitches. I’d rather buy my windows from HD or Lowes and then pay an installer. Done. No sales pitch and you know what you’re paying for in windows and what the installer is charging. Prolly at a ton less cost.
Idk… I had windows done in 2012. It was 500-700 per window depending on the size my picture window was 1,200. They are excellent windows but that was 2012.
If that price is right or not you need to get three quotes at a minimum. It’s not all about the price. Keep in mind that when you are getting these quotes you are also interviewing a new employee. It’s for a temp job but if you find a guy with a great price but seems slimy, kick that one out. You are looking for a fair (not necessarily lowest) price from a contractor that you trust. It sounds like this cat was a salesman. Once this is awarded you’ll likely never see him again. They sub it out and now you are at the mercy of whoever they sub it to. If you have any friends that work in the construction industry at all, ask them for some recommendations. Even if he is a drywall guy or a plumber they likely have some contacts.
His price was super high ,if he went into all that he is not a top dog , he is a salesman .I am Canadian but we went around locally and with just inquired for a small Sole Proprietorship. Found one person whose name came up over and over in our area.He was a 60 year old with a small core group. They did a fantastic job and price was 1/5 th. the cost of the large companies and completed in 3 days. You may run into the same with solar panels---the prices will be over priced ,you will have to know a lot about the panels before you committing.

Lmao you can buy windows for $90 on sale. I'd rather buy my own and even if I mess it up 40-80 times, I still come out ahead.

That is so unbelievable - 77 thousand for new windows. New house!!
Wow window quote is mind blowing. Going solar or Home Depot probably better deal. Thanks again for great reseller video
The quote is completely insane. Just make sure you use a licensed contractor.
I did my windows last year and it was not even close to that price, unfortunately it’s still going to be expensive, windows roof and any hvac is usually the priciest on a house, luckily I do hvac so I saved myself like 12k doing duct work and a new unit myself
I dot a quote for 10 windows for my home 6yrs ago and it was $20,000
You need to check the building codes in your area.
I just had 1 5’x6’ window replaced and it cost $600.00
You can get a thermal camera that attaches to your phone and check all over the house for leaks and temperature variances. That's a good ADHD side quest anyway.
Wow. That’s expensive. If it needs to be changed. U should do it where it’s urgent and then the other areas in portions. Yes check around quotes.
Absolutely more quotes needed . That price was horrendous.
We did lowes in AZ and very reasonable!! Get them to give you estimate!!!
Mr MaGoo was my favorite early morning cartoon. I used to get up like 5:30-6:00 every morning with my Dad just to watch Mr Macgoo ❤
Just my opinion…
PS those windows on your garage door shouldn’t be replaced.
Jesus we got 7 windows done in Vermont last year 14:07 and it was like 5,000
We live on a golf course and have to replace windows almost every year.
Thanks for the tips!
I was skeptical about the Mercari changes at first but so far I'm lovin it.
Windows by Anderson quoted me $40k as well 🤯🤯🤯, I just laughed.
Anderson windows are ridiculously expensive. Other companies are around 15 to 25grand.
16 windows with blinds in the windows
2 doors with blinds in windows.
1 main door.
16,000.
If you special order from home depot they will charge a 20 percent restocking fee.
Lowes does not charge a restocking fee for special orders.
The windows were installed in 2019
The restocking fee is for a item returned.
Happy Easter to you and your family Dave
Same to you!
Here in Illinois me and my wife just got a quote for windows we only have 10 that we were gonna do, and they quoted us $33,000.
dave don't do anderson. i remember my guy doing the lightbulg test... they make you sit threw all that and you have to say yes... or you lose a discount... forget that...we got window somewhere else....
Check with the Better Business Bureau before calling a company for a quote.
Regarding your electric bill you’re not in North Carolina so no more Duke your FPL. You can save money by tinting your windows
Now ask yourself why Mercari has turned in this new direction. Write down you're prospect answers. Why would a company turn about face and clearly loose revenues in the process? Whats the end game and dont think short term revenue/competition.
My wife and I replaced all of our windows (18), front door, and a garage side door for ~17k purchased from Lowes.
And I live about 2 hours from you...
I allow returns on ebay. I sell mostly men’s and women’s clothing. My rate of return is 6 percent. I am curious if that percentage is similar for other ebay sellers?
If you have a window world location near you, I would get an estimate from them. I've used them. They're great
A friend of mine who lives in a small house with her son in TN decided she needed new windows.
I can buy a new house for less than that. Or Better some land to put the one I have on. Crazy price for windows.
Was that quote from Renewal by Anderson? Sounds like their pitch and high price. No, you can get a much better quote.
That window quote was ridiculous! Get more quotes
There might be government rebates/refunds for installing energy saving windows.
Great to see the content is looking more like your original.
I paid just under 80k for my house
I hate sales pitches. I’d rather buy my windows from HD or Lowes and then pay an installer. Done. No sales pitch and you know what you’re paying for in windows and what the installer is charging. Prolly at a ton less cost.
Idk… I had windows done in 2012. It was 500-700 per window depending on the size my picture window was 1,200. They are excellent windows but that was 2012.
Not sure if that person that gave u a quote specializes in windows so maybe talk to a general contractor for advice.
All I am thinking is What does your Windows have to do with you Electric?
Man, windows make a difference, but it still feels like your electric bill is crazy.
always get more then one quote just let them know you only got about an hour - hour and a half for the quote
Was it the Royal window company? Just curious
I am in California and been with a window company for 10 years. That dude was ripping you off. Try a smaller company
I would get solar power quote
His price was super high ,if he went into all that he is not a top dog , he is a salesman .I am Canadian but we went around locally and with just inquired for a small Sole Proprietorship. Found one person whose name came up over and over in our area.He was a 60 year old with a small core group. They did a fantastic job and price was 1/5 th. the cost of the large companies and completed in 3 days.
You may run into the same with solar panels---the prices will be over priced ,you will have to know a lot about the panels before you committing.
Hey Dave, that guy is out of his mind. Go to Lowe’s or Home Depot more way low cost.
Your purchase of car parts
was brilliant.
