    Jesus, you guys are so detailed and seriously research your products. That goes a long way in that I might not buy any of the serious aero mods mentioned in this video but it just shows me your dedication to informing your consumer. With that said I'll gladly use you guys over the competition when buying anything you have in stock.

    OK wanted to chime in with what I have found. I have the full under body setup (front slitter, mid panels, rear diffuser). Around town I here in New Tampa, Westley Chapel area, I get about 1 to 3 MPG bump in fuel efficiency (the roads are 50 - 60 MPH speed limit here around town). I also see about a 5 MPG increase when driving on the highway (70 MPH speed limits... but I actually drive 80 MPH when it is safe to do so). With a tune for premium 91 Octane fuel before the aero parts I averaged 31 MPG, now I am seeing 34/35 if I really drive carefully. However lately I have been averaging 33 (been doing a lot of driving around town). The price for the the parts will be paid for in a year with the fuel I am saving... Not a bad return on money spent for the parts. The funny thing is I originally wanted the aero parts to help with improving highway stability in bad weather. The side effect of the light weight of the FRS is poor wind buffering at 70-80 MPH speeds. You get thrown all over the lane when passing semi trucks and in the wet that can be dangerous. Anyway the aero parts have greatly improved high speed stability all while improving my fuel efficiency... From here on out, every vehicle I own will either have these parts from the factory or I will install them from the aftermarket.

    Thanks guys! I have an F32 BMW 435i with splitter and rear diffuser and noticed my car seemed A LOT lower at 80mph-90mph. Your videos helped explain what I thought was just me being dumb was really downforce occurring/in play. Thank you!

    Potential autocrossers need to remember to check the rules for the class they want to run before adding aero parts. None of these parts would be legal in CS, DS, STX, or SSC (the most popular classes for the BRZ/FR-S/86 in the SCCA).
    I only mention this due to the video saying autocrossers should try to maximize downforce, which is mostly true, but not many people want to be stuck in a class they can't compete in just due to aero parts.

    Great explanation mate. I'm impressed with your knowledge as a youngster. As said, 90% it doesn't matter because the youngsters are only for the aggressive looks, however for the serious, like yourself, there are two more options. Consider the use of VG's as well as active "angle of attack" management. Keep us to update.

    it's not just top speed, it's generally speed isn't it? ie. including acceleration since it increases your general drag coefficient?

    • @tomw9078
      @tomw9078 5 лет назад

      kinda. The force that air exerts on aero panels increases exponentially the faster you go, so from 0-60 (relatively low speed), the effect that aero has on acceleration would be minimal as the drag is also minimal. Accelerating beyond 60 however, you might see differences due to the combination of higher speed gearing and the increased drag from added aero.

  • @chazmuska
    @chazmuska 6 лет назад +1

    So if you go with just the splitter, underpannels and rear diffuser...will that increase top speed?? ....since drag is reduced

    • @larryxiang822
      @larryxiang822 5 лет назад

      chazmuska Yep. The splitter and diffuser don’t create downforce the traditional way. Underbody panels don’t make any downforce and are there purely to reduce drag
      A splitter works by pushing air up over itself, which will push the car itself down since every action has an equal and opposite reaction.
      Even though the splitter will cause drag, it is much less than how much drag the car has without it, so it classifies as a drag reduction
      Diffusers work, as mentioned in the vidoeo, by creating a low pressure area behind the vehicle and sort of sucking the vehicle down into the road.

    Great video guys!! Can the kanards also fit on the 2017 BRZ?

    • @thestigj-9635
      @thestigj-9635 7 лет назад

      Each car would have different body lines / attachment points for the canards, for example canards made for an FRS wouldn't fit on the BRZ bumper and the '13-'16 BRZ would need a different canard than the '17 BRZ. I would just make sure that the specific part you are buying says it fits a 2017 BRZ before you buy. Their website does a pretty good job of that.

    • @FTspeed
      @FTspeed  7 лет назад

      They do not fit 2017 BRZ, your bumper is a different shape then the FRS.

    So in theory, it's not recommended adding aero to a stock car for it will reduce speed?

    • @ToastyClam
      @ToastyClam 7 лет назад

      flintlights top end speed and acceleration will be reduced. Cornering speed will be greater normally resulting in faster laptimes.

    • @FTspeed
      @FTspeed  7 лет назад

      Really depends what kind or driving you're doing. Underpanels and a Velox rear diffuser can help fuel economy.

    I am interesting in adding a SARD wings on my stock 86 for daily driving. However I don't want to change the balance of the car. Which should I add in the front to balance the aero for the wing? Also a question for SARD wing, for the carbon fiber version, how much is it lighter to the normal version. Do I need a additional paint layer for the normal version? Thank you.

    • @FTspeed
      @FTspeed  7 лет назад

      You can add a front splitter if you're worried about your aero balance. But for daily driving aero balance isnt a big concern.

    • @FTspeed
      @FTspeed  7 лет назад

      Yes of course you do! You'll still have reduced drag and increased downforce, and if you plan to add a splitter in the future you'll have even more downforce to both the front and rear.

    guys as an aeronautical engineer, I can tell you that car "aero" parts (that are not designed specifically by aero teams for track cars) will do nothing for your car's performance. These parts will only add drag and weight to your car. In fact, these parts will only cause wakes and seperation of the boundary layer flowing over your car which will only slow you down. If you are driving courses where you rarely make it over 40 - 50 mph, then aero parts will only be added bagguage on your car. A good wing will only generate noticeable down force at speeds over 40 mph, so is it worth it? that's up to you. Do you corner often at speeds greater than 40 - 50 mph? if this is the case, then a wing will help keep tracktion over your rear tyres... otherwise, there is no need from a performance point of view.

    • @mortenhartvigkristiansen7760
      @mortenhartvigkristiansen7760 5 лет назад +8

      Which is exactly what the guy said in the video. He also showed us videos of the simulated airflow and gave us precise numbers of the gained downforce.
      These aero parts are "specifically designed by aero teams for track cars"
      Did you just see the title and decided to spew some shit without watching the actual video, just so you could tell us that you're an "aeronautical engineer"?
      As an avid youtube watcher, I disapprove.

    A stock 86 doesnt have enough torque to justify aero mods. It can put the power down just fine without them.

    • @thestigj-9635
      @thestigj-9635 7 лет назад

      but if you say were doing a max power turbo or supercharged build or even swapping the engine I could see the usefulness of these products, with that said most if not all the builders who would do that to an 86 would probably know most of this. However, it was a good video if someone wanted to hear numbers on popular products quickly without much research needed.
