Paul Revere and the Raiders a iconic West Coast Band I give this song a listen everyday before the nurses here come by and make me turn it down.

This is, by far, the best version of this song. Loved this band, we even opened for them once at the Portland Armory!

@@JohnnyNation yep! they always stayed at the Jamaica Motel in Portland when they were playing in the area and we, "The Fabulons" were often invited to hang after the shows!

I was under the assumption that the Fabulons were Theo Patterson , Dale Coloma, and Ollie Smith (R.I.P.). Our backup groups were first, The Rialtos, and then The Tikis. ...and yes we hung out at the Jamaica Motel after shows.

Danced @ Parker’s on HWY 99 Seattle WA to these amazing musicians! They are so funny too!! My daughter sent me the music & said are these the Beach boys? I really like them!! I’m almost 73, she’s 41… she knows the beat, maybe not the name, but it’s 😎. I took my son up to Vancouver Canada one night after seeing shift @ Boeing to see Michael Jackson when he was still young… my son was probably 10-11 yrs old. ( had him when I was 17 &1/2. That was one of the greatest concerts ever & I’ve seen Jimi Hendrix, loving spoonful, Little Stevie Wonder, The Young Rascals (3x), Rate Earth, Isley Brothers, Chicago, Earth Wind & Fire ( what a concert! Came from above w/white smoke( dry ice) George Benson, Bad Company, Emy Lou Harris, dang there’s more. Last group I saw was moody blues @ the gorge but too high to get out of the suv w/too high friends. Ridiculous! I stopped after that… getting high that is & concerts…😎😂😂

It was a dark day when this Rock'n' Roll icon passed form this earth to the Home in Heaven. We will miss his great music and his fun personality, but Heaven will be richer for it.
He is there now entertaining those whom have gone before us, and he will be there to entertain us once again someday. I was there from the beginning, have all of the original band's albums and have loved them from day one. Their music, their fun on stage; and, if you have ever been one of the lucky ones who had one of his three-cornered hats sent flying out to you from stage AND still have that hat, you have truly been blessed for it! Their music was always so fun to dance to also. RIP Paul and hope to see you on the other side someday. God bless you for the legacy you have left us.

back about 25 years ago while in early high school I had this "various artist " album , orange non-descript cover, I acquired from my parents along with some other gems.(along with a bang and olefson turntable and bose 901s....and I used to complain about not having anything....sheeeesh.) the only song I played was this insane version louie louie. I nor anybody I knew ever heard this version and I would blow peoples minds with it. this sounds almost exactly like the version on that album which in fact is a live version.the only diff I can hear from memory is that the album version is cleaner.(this video of the show really might be that recording.) 3 years ago it dawned on me to check e-bay. OMG they had 3 of them and 2 were mint. bought all three.i never in a million years would of thought a video existed. I just felt the same joy I felt the first time I played that album. THANK YOU king vidiot !!!

my home town wouldn't play this song on the radio, but a "float" played it in a prade in the town with the world's largest shamrock. I could NEVER understand the lyrics (people said they were dirty), but I loved it because of it's loud beat, and it was fast, and fun to dance to. I was "Proper", but din't care what other people thought, or said.

I owned this one on vinyl and some other albums they produced. Northwest migration of the material from surf style groups increased the popularity of the tune and the US garage bands ate it up. The Kingsmen's version had a lot to do with further advancing the instrumental breaks younger bands were taking. Just a thought.

@kingvidiot66 Agreed. In his book Louie Louie, Dave Marsh tells the story of how the Kingsmen scooped the Raiders and had the big hit with the song, even though the Raiders' version was out first.
The other funny thing is that the Kingsmen's version was a rehearsal take. They thought they were doing a run-through and were shocked when the producer told them that was it. That's what accounts for the famous mistake in the last verse when the singer comes in a bar too early with "Me see..."

I don't know which version I like better, they are both great. But this one sure has more life to it. Maybe the Kingsmen version is better for the radio, where this one is best for live venues.
