I was having really ugly ridges and also started tighnening my purl stich more and more. The result was so terrible that I saw no solution but abandoning continental and trying english style. It was so thight and awkward to me that I felt like quitting knitting. Then I finally tried the opposite while this episode began. I was so happy showing the results to my family, then 2 minutes later you start telling you had the same problem and how you solved it. I wish I had watched these episodes in order, it would have saved my some tears. Your videos are so amazing. You are so open and clever, thank you so much for sharing your expertise and exquisite taste. Thanks for sharing your health improvements, I hope you reach remission soon 🙏
I so appreciate the autoimmune “ramble” in episode 12. I’m newly diagnosed and while I have used Danielle Walker’s cookbooks before… there’s a huge difference with wanting to eat healthier and now HAVING to avoid certain things. 😬 I love all your knitting stuff, always but it was a nice surprise to feel seen on the hashimoto side too! Thanks for opening up with your experiences. ❤️
I'm with you, I prep ahead whenever possible, not just because there are some things I just shouldn't eat, but also because there are just days when you don't have time to be cooking for anyone. Part of my autoimmune issues is that I'm super sensitive to a ton of preservatives and other food additives. That just makes it super hard to do take-away unless they've had a discussion with me first to see what's in certain dishes. I think of people like us with autoimmune issues are like the canaries in the coal mine. Our bodies find all the things that maybe people shouldn't be eating as much of in general. I love your pattern writing style, and this type of content is my favorite to watch. It's like having Friday morning coffee with a friend. Take care.
I too suffer from thin hair. It was poor even ver 4 kids and now lm in 50s. I use shampoo natural soap and condition with coconut butter in the ends after shampoo. Also my hairdresser once told me to never use elastic hair bands as they break your hair at the point of contact. Either use trippy clips or material/woolly bands but never pull your hair tight. Loose clip or just loose is best and try not to wear hats that are synthetic. Hand made woolly hats are best. Believe me l know. Thank you Andrea for sharing you are very honest and humble. God bless you
Always look forward to Friday's!!! Your help is priceless! Absolutely LOVE your designs.💖💕Thank you for continuing these Q&As! You are so talented and absolutely beautiful.
Another fantastic 'I'll knit if I want to!' I love Friday's watching your videos. You are such a talented lady. Thank you so much for spending time with us.
Omg! Thank you:). Love your videos. And really did want to know about the hair😆 too, my fine hair thanks you. Your voice is so smoothing and you are so easy to listen to, I appreciate these videos🥰.
Hi I’m just watching this episode, but when you were asked about avoiding sleeve creases, I thought about pool noodles. They sell them at the dollar store and can easily be cut in half. I haven’t tried it, but it could be a great solution.
I couldn’t agree more with your tip on freezing portions of food I can eat. I have IBS and can’t do much take out bcs it always includes something I can’t tolerate. Having those frozen portions means I can still avoid cooking and my family can do takeout without feeling bad. Your podcast is great, very much enjoy it.
Oh my gosh I’m totally trying the claw bun! I have curly hair but it’s fine and I’ve lost hair too after having kids and just getting older. Best trick ever!
Thank you! These chats are so helpful and relatable. My child has an autoimmune disease and we found that she was not healing (despite a LOT of interventions and diet changes) because we had hidden mold/mycotoxins she was being exposed to. Sadly, it did a lot of damage to her body … but once we found out, and moved/cleaned/detoxed, she has steadily improved. Strict gluten/dairy free/organic/clean diet and a great Natropathic doctor are keeping her on a healing path … anyway, mycotoxins can be really hard on people with autoimmune diseases and there is a link to Hashimoto’s. Just something to consider… I wish you well on your healing journey! ✌🏻
I had the hardest time with brioche and struggled with it until I ran across your tutorial. That really clicked for me. I still sometimes have trouble, but the way you explain it finally made sense. Thank you!
Love your journal and tips. Something quick with some notes that keeps it simple but still useful is what I need. A friend was encouraging me to do a planner-type style, but following her was almost like a job in itself. Thanks!
I love the tip of weaving in ends before blocking and trimming the ends after blocking. Another good one I heard recently is to use a sharp tapestry needle as opposed to blunt to split the plies of the yarn where you’re weaving the end into, which secures the end better.
Thank you so much. Your videos are just the right length and I'm learning and enjoying so much. Have also started a knitting log but think I might follow your example and make a journal with little Polaroid! Looking forward to next week.
For sleeve blocking - I'll bet you could use those air bags you get in your Amazon box that keep stuff from rattling around in shipping. Those are perforated between each air bag and can be ripped to individual pillows and stuffed into the sleeves to keep from getting that fold line.
I am managing most of the time being gluten lactose and caffeine intolerant. And yes 👍🏻 there are many more places that cater for me thankfully but their is a real yearning for Tiramisu which I made for any special occasions OR not? Nearly 70 and not even a double mastectomy has killed me. I am a survivor and like young re-invented myself for many reasons all through my life. My daughter and I watched your previous week and it was interesting for both of us re coeliac! We will search out the Functional doctor and dietitian as my issue seems to get worse. How do you knit your socks 🧦 up or down? So far I am extremely proud of my down socks 🧦 I created over our very long lockdown. My daughter Felicity now gets why I never watch TV only RUclips now. Andrea you were chatting with us which gets me through our 4 th lockdown! And all those last year. I have learnt so much in all types of crafts. Until I turned 69 I had never swatched let alone blocked. I knitted from the age of 4 and I only knitted with Paton’s patterns and the few wools they had in production. Old UK needles were 10 and 8 never used other needles. Amazing hey? And I knitted very awesome teenage boy knits with Kaffe Fasset ideas. No one taught me once we came to Australia but I went to a Montessori School in Nederland. Thank you so much.
Andrea, thank you for taking time to talk to us! I LOVE these sessions! All of your tips are useful. Finishing up my first So Faded sweater; on the sleeves. I say the first because I love the pattern and will be knitting more! 💜🧶
Hi Andrea, I really enjoy your podcasts and tutorials, thank you so much! Since you brought up the autoimmune topic, I hope you don’t mind if I share this., I’ve had thyroid issues since I was a pre-teen and in my mid fifties I was diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis, Physicians don’t know much about this painful bladder condition. I realized about 4 years ago that I really need to cut out gluten which helped but recently I changed over to a Keto way of eating and my symptoms have went into remission. I think a lot was due to cutting out gluten, sugar and processed foods and only eating twice a day. I hope this might help someone else who suffers with chronic conditions.
I tend to do knit stitches too tightly which biases my stockinette and ribbing fabric. Finally arrived at doing knit rows continental and purl rows english. I bought a little freezer for my garage and it is great to have perishable stuff on hand to use in cooking.
I love that journal idea! I have a mini polaroid camera - that's a perfect way to document my makes. So HOW many careers have you actually had? :). "I used to be a hairdresser", "I used to be a baker"....
My husband has celiacs disease & I have terrible digestion, so we almost always prep & cook our own meals. It’s tedious & repetitive, so def appreciate your recommendations for recipe writers, and will sign up for your newsletter!
I was such a tight knitter on metal needles, so I switched to wood and now I’m a loose knitter 🤷♀️ I think it’s important to try different sizes and materials to get gauge because you never know!
Oh, I’ve also had issues with my thyroid and was on hormones couple years. Then I read about gluten connection and my doctor just laughed at me… 2 years gluten free diet and my TSH level is perfect! No pills + bread is back to my life 🤓. Good luck with your fight!
Your video last week gave me an aha moment to research gluten and autoimmune (I have fibromyalgia) so thank you so much! I'm hopeful that eating gluten free can help eliminate some of my symptoms. I'm looking forward to your recipes in your newsletter 🥰
Funny and unexpected, I come here for knitting advice and I end up immediately ordering hair clips. I wear my hear up like that too, but usually with hairbands and all the hair has broken off around my ears and hairline. Game changer!
I knew it you are wearing the Greer. I have been looking at it and the website. I am in Australia 🇦🇺 and find sending anything from the States or Europe it costs an arm and a leg 🦵 in postage as well as our dollar 💵 it is worth very little. Use pool noodles for sleeves.
Love the buttons on your overalls! I'd love them for the Everyway Shawl I'm going to start later this summer! I just bought the yarn and have been on the perfect button hunt! :D
Hi, I love watching your pod cast. Thank you for the little cooking tips. I have hypothyroidism, lupus and a few other autoimmune diseases. I'm also no gluten and dairy and struggling figuring what to eat I think the first few weeks was only salad....lol . Anyway thank you for sharing what works for you.
I just cataloged my entire stash on Ravelry. I noticed it has a cool spinners spot where you can stash your fiber and turn it into a spinning project. I lost my old stash in a house fire, so I figured it would be easy to catalog my stash now.
Thanks for the videos, usually a highlight of my Friday morning! I always wish there was a ravelry for sewing projects. I would like to know where you’re teaching this year?
I enjoy your videos so much that I wouldn't mind going back to all of them and write up dot points of the techniques you talked about in each, if you like. Then you can add them in your description notes.
I do this, but digital. using a journaling/scrapbooking app on iPad with Pencil I take pictures of my swatches and progress and write notes. for me, digital works better because i get really obsessive and distracted by bad handwriting and mistakes and it's much easier to delete and rewrite notes and layout pages on an iPad.
Thank you! You’re reminding my that I need to get tested for an autoimmune disorder. I wouldn’t be surprised if I have Hashimoto’s as well have a friend who is diagnosed recently and I am a lot like her
Mind Blown: yarn ends in middle of row "knit one stitch from old skein, one stitch from new, one from old, one from new!" Thank YOU!!!!

Great podcast today, and as always good answers to some great questions. 😊

You have done so many thing! And you share so much. You are very gifted including the gifts of teaching and sharing. Thank you so much!!!
I’ve used pool noodles for blocking sleeves to reduce fold lines.
omg great idea lol thanks
Clever idea, I went looking at the $ store nada, not a one, lol
I should have read down re: noodles

I learned from Casey, too! She’s an amazing teacher & the shop has a great variety of fiber.

Hello love your videos ❤️❤️❤️. Pool noodles would work good too, if you get the skinny ones, to block a sleeve
I love that journal idea! I have a mini polaroid camera - that's a perfect way to document my makes. So HOW many careers have you actually had? :). "I used to be a hairdresser", "I used to be a baker"....
I wonder if a pool noodle would work for blocking in order to not get the crease. Just a thought...
I agree! I was much tighter on metal needles. I think since I find wooden needles more comfortable my gauge has loosened.
Thanks Andrea, for all your insights into knitting tips and dealing with your health. Looking forward to your next news letter, just signed up!🦋🌻
I have used wooden dowels to eliminate the fold line.
Oh, I’ve also had issues with my thyroid and was on hormones couple years. Then I read about gluten connection and my doctor just laughed at me… 2 years gluten free diet and my TSH level is perfect! No pills + bread is back to my life 🤓. Good luck with your fight!

These are oldies - I think I got about 50 of them from Amazon years ago!
Suggestion for the creases in the sleeves: pool noodle
Thank you so much!!

Thanks for the videos, usually a highlight of my Friday morning! I always wish there was a ravelry for sewing projects. I would like to know where you’re teaching this year?
Delightful and informative. Thank you! PS I've got some stash Biches & Buches that is destined for Evenfall - can't wait!
That will be beautiful!

The reason I don't weave in the ends as I go is if you have to frog back it's a pain.
For and undo, I use my used blue facemasks that are lying around my car as a scrunchie. We are still masked up here in Canada :(
The only thing about fabric glue is that it gets hard, and you feel that "knot"
Maybe I used it the wrong way?
👍👍👍😁👋🇳🇱thank you!
Sooo happy y’all are continuing with the Q&A podcasts!
Check out Dr Ken Berry and his Keto / Low Carb for Celiacs
Great episode as usual, 🌸 thanks so much for taking the time 🌺
Bonus tip is amazing! I also lost so much hair after having my kids (and have hashis), and have been struggling with the elastic bands smh.
👏🙏🏼💕🇨🇦
