Just because something is free doesn't mean it is good. And with how tight Nintendo is with their branding, they don't want free advertising. They want advertising that matches what they want based on their own timeline.

We as Nintendo fans really need to come together and call Nintendo out for these ridiculous guidelines and business practices because, at some point, these tactics have to blow over at some point, right? When is enough, enough when it comes to Nintendo handling how their IPs are shown off to the world? I genuinely believe that a protest is imminent at this rate if Nintendo continues on this path of questionable/controversial decision-making, especially with these new guidelines. I'm surprised that there hasn't already been an outburst of angry Nintendo fans at the front door of any Nintendo HQ.
It honestly doesn't make any sense when you consider all the scummy tactics other big game companies have attempted to do and you see the communities of those games coming together and calling the companies out for trying to be slick. Helldivers 2 is a great example of this. There's honestly no way that Nintendo can keep this up for much longer without having fans outside their HQ with "pitchforks and torches" if you will. It also just feels like Nintendo is abusing its power at this point with how they go about handling situations like this. Again, we as a community need to rise up and let our voices be heard and give Nintendo a proper wake-up call.

How come the Helldivers 2 community was able to call Sony out for trying to introduce the requirement of PC players having to connect their Steam account to the PSN and it's taking how many years of Nintendo's scummy decision-making for the community to actually do something about it? Nintendo has a history of doing this and the community just let them get away with it.
The sad truth is that no matter what they do, no matter how greedy they get, people will keep buying their games and Nintendo knows this way too well.

Hi there, you know they are talking about posting gameplay of Nintendo themselves. They're not talking about you playing Nintendo games. Make sure you read it carefully before spreading bad rumors about Nintendo.
This isn't the first time he's spread false information to get people angry.
Well, looking at the guidelines that are shown, and hearing most of the worries, it pretty much lines up. A let's play is not just a silent copy of someone playing the game and posting the full video of it. It involves an intro, commentary, or even small walkthroughs. Those kinds of videos, prime example I can think of being ZackScottGames, are fairly safe. A full copy of the gameplay, like Super Mario RPG by ProsafiaGaming is likely at risk.
The other thing I'm possibly considering is gameplay sequences. Like, to what degree are gameplay sequences considered? 1 minute of silence? Gamers embracing the ending of a top-notch game to really nail in that moment? What does Nintendo define as a gameplay sequence from a Nintendo property? And what would be their metric for considering that as equivalent? Now, if the argument of gameplay videos by Nintendo (not promotional videos, trailers, game sequences that are part of them) are also not allowed, I'd like to know when and where Nintendo posts these gameplay videos, because it looks to me like we cannot create mere copies of that without creative/editorial input. If it's just Nintendo property gameplay, not directly Nintendo created videos, that are locked out like this, then yeah, I think we aren't going to be allowed to record a silent gameplay video.

That is so not fair! Most RUclipsrs that do Nintendo gameplay don't do commentary. Plus, there are some fan games that have Nintendo characters that some RUclipsrs do let's plays of.
They are on their right to decide what they think is Fair Use and what isn't.

Simply because it hasn't happened yet doesn't meant that they aren't at risk, just that they have been really lucky that they haven't lost their IPs, however, the danger still exists.

It’s a symptom of when they were a smaller company, and had to have an iron grip on their IP. That, plus American Fair Use laws being foreign to a decent amount of Nintendo’s alumni, is what makes them fiercely overprotective over IP. I mean, also, third party law firms Nintendo gives authority to do takedowns are commonly overzealous and almost villainous. There’s a lot to it, but it’s not hatred at least.

I’m an artist who watches video game longplays while I work. If Nintendo in doing this, my work ethic could be in danger. Doesn’t Nintendo know that if you want fan loyalty, you have to provide some fan service? And what part of showing courtesy to people who want to offer front row seats of their gameplay to their own audiences in return doesn’t count as fan service? Plus, the new Mario movie was a serious load, so they need to give us something to avoid us losing faith in them.
If they actually have the audacity to go through with this bullshit, they should at least have the decency to upload the longplays to their own channel so they won’t be lost forever

7:17 Dont forget the emulation, modding, homebrew, amd such. Their cracking down on videos that have that too. And not just guides. Like lets say you have a modded 2ds with all your games you bought before the shut down and thats how you stream it to your pc... they will probably go after THOSE TOO! Or just mods like ctgp7 or just gomebrewing a 3ds to legally dump your games for preservation and such. Not to meantion that makes it easier to record 3ds footage due to emulators! And some of the mods are designed to fix what was left broken or preserve the eshop stuff!

It’s insane that gameplay videos on RUclips are getting shut down. I understand Nintendo would want to protect their IPs but sometimes when you’re protecting it can lead to a lot of bad things and one of them could be game sales. Nintendo gameplay has always impacted the ones who truly wanted to get these games and it’s a result of being top sellers. I remember when so many people were excited when they were getting The Legend of Zelda Breath of The Wild and when I saw so many gameplays, that’s what made me got the game because of how good it was. If Nintendo plans on going down this route, it’ll probably affect their game sales.
We all need to go to Nintendo headquarters and stop protesting immediately. Cause this is shady on Nintendo's role. PROTEST

2:15 the only reasoning why they did this is to prevent the loss of money by people not wanting to buy the game themselves and instead just watch it. Which is redundant cause even if they watch a person playing it and talking over most of it, they will still watch it and NOT play the game. So now it's just them being petty.
ON the bright side this only affects Nintendo games so everyone else should be good right? Can still play CoD, FNAF, or whatever non-Nintendo games are still watchable with speaking.
Here's the thing. With games like splatoon and other competitive games like that. you have to PHYSICALLY play the game in order to actually get the value of the game. So splatoon youtubers are probably gonna be in a world of hurt

this is valid but not in the sense of some of their old games that they refuse to make or sell anymore. if they dont sell the system needed to play the game, they aren't losing any money.

I think they will probably only care about content that is just basically free gameplay of the game, without anything on it. For example, putting a timer over the screen and some text saying "SPEEDRUNNING FOR SUB 1 HOUR IN SUPER MARIO ODYSSEY!" would be enough for it to be considered original content, not just the game.
I personally wouldn’t mind if prosafia went under. The amount of content that guy spoils even before games release is insane
@@avocadeous Maybe the rule should be: No content of the actual game before games are released, as well as some indicator that it is not stolen from the game. Some sort of icon somewhere.
To add to this, i think a rule of no content within the first month or 2-3 months let's say. I think people rush to make content about the game as soon as it comes out, which leads to spoilers, crazy opinions, etc. If a creator wants to stream their first playthrough of a game, they should just wait.

this is like the controversy about emulators on the next level. i was not born in the era with the games on snes and n64. with them not making those systems or games anymore, it's almost impossible and to find and be able to play some of those old games without emulators.
them banning gameplay footage makes it near impossible for me to get even get a fraction of the original experience from those games. and there are still a ton of those old nintendo games i haven't watched at all and now without probably can't watch in the way i'd like to.
edit: if i could get those game systems and the original games easier it wouldnt be a big deal to me as much.

If it weren't for a non-commentary full gameplay video of Super Mario Odyssey wasn't uploaded on RUclips, I would never have known the game existed, let alone even the switch. Just watching it (three times even) convinced me more and more how much I wanted to get the game, and a Nintendo Switch. Watching gameplay videos was part of my childhood, and seeing that may disappear in the future is upsetting. I'm sure Nintendo has their reasons, but it is sad to think this kind of content could be lost.
