I really wish they added Realistic Enduring Confrontation so the bombers had more of a meaning in the game. The Sim EC is really fun but sometimes I don't feel like setting up my whole rig for that.
I played and killed with just KB+M in Sim EC. Winning dogfights isn't easy, but it get gradually easier as you get better at flying overall. Try flying twin engine and jets first, in single engine props you need to counteract the prop, which might be too much at first.
Historically speaking, the TU-4 was inferior to the B-29 because of the steel it used for its frame. TU-4 was heavy, and as a result, guzzled a lot of gas to stay flying.

I remember when i played more bombers i would calculate how much TNT each load had, and use the one with the biggest. Not always the bigger bomb load had more TNT

I can't even tell you how many times that I could call out to my team enemy locations and whether they were coming for me only to be left to fend for my self against several fighters while still trying to stay on course for my bombing run.

I know Warthunder players always seek "realism". Well... here you have it: A direct exploding hit to a WW2 bomber in the hull would be catastrophic. The air frame would just fail and it would send the remaining pieces towards earth (refer to Aloha Airlines Flight 243 that actually survived a catastrophic air frame failure). The crew would be at least stunned by the sudden drop of air pressure that makes the whole plane like a smoke tunnel. You cannot see anything in that... Now... tell me the crew is not incapacitated and tell me that getting hit several times with those, provided that any of your systems work anymore, do you try the bomb "button"?

Getting a fighter escort in a bomber is so rare you have a better chance at getting a nuke with a 500 booster
