Can Spirit Airlines Stage A Comeback?

  • Spirit Airlines, the no-frills carrier known for its bright yellow planes, brash style and low fares, has helped revolutionize the way we pay for travel. To offset its bare bones fares the carrier charges for everything from carry-on bags to bottles of water.
    As of 2019 Spirit Airlines had 13 consecutive years of profitability. But the airline that travelers love to hate has fallen on tough times. With the coronavirus pandemic causing passenger traffic to plummet Spirit announced third quarter 2020 total operating revenue of $402 million, a 60 percent drop from a year earlier.
    To keep passengers safe and onboard Spirit requires face coverings for passengers and crew, uses foggers to disinfect the aircraft and has waived some change fees. But is it enough? And will Spirit Airlines be able to bounce back from the economic fallout battering the airline industry?

    Can Spirit Airlines Stage A Comeback?

    Doesn’t sound like Spirit is really In trouble. Sounds like legacy carriers are in trouble.

    • @G-546
      @G-546 3 года назад +21

      Filthywings Spirit’s actual issue is their planes. Spirit has expanded a lot in the last 10 years and they have a lot of new planes. The issue is that the legacy airlines have older planes that were set for retirement in a few years and they retired them early. Spirit couldn’t retire its planes because they were too young which was a big problem during the pandemic.

      The actual airline in trouble is American. United has been able to rely on its huge cargo network and military charter flights during the pandemic. Delta also has been able to use charter flights to make money. Delta is the largest charter airline in the US and they charter all NBA teams, a few MLB teams, some NFL teams, College sports teams, and some military flights. United also has a large charter network but it has the biggest cargo division of the US airlines. American recently has pulled out of charter flights and reduced cargo operations. American Airlines also has made many poor decisions in the last few years. United, Delta, and even JetBlue also have better business class class than American in most people’s opinion.

You would not believe how much space there is available and no one is fighting for space. On American everyone brings there whole house in carry on. I pay extra and get the big front seats. Always on time. And now the frequent flyer program rivals any of the big airlines in benefits. Now I'm one of Spirits most loyal customers and cheer for them for to succeed. Seems like the big airlines now are copying and envying them when they used to make fun of them. Now I only use American for long haul overseas trips.

I had read all the fine print beforehand. When I research flights, they are not always the best and cheapest. I'm a Delta person generally and sometimes I qualify for a

    I didnt even watch but a little of this video, but seeing the name and big yellow company colors reminded me of something. I belive this is the airline I'm thinking of.
    A while back I came into the DFW Airport and was waiting to get picked up from there. I remember walking around inside the terminal or whatever the area is called right inside from the road to get picked up at. There was a girl sitting down with her head down, against the wall crying. She was in her later 20's and had just changed careers by starting nursing school. I went into the shop a couple yards down from her and asked if they had any tissue. All they had was napkins of course. But thats what I accepted and offered to the misfated girl. She said thank you and I asked if everything was OK. She told me that her SEAT was canceled and taken by another person and the flight was full. It was a Saturday I believe and she had saved up the money for that ticket to go see her family and friends in Colorado before she started school on Monday, amidst her daily job as well. The refund would take a few days and she didn't have that kinda time seeing that the next opportunity to see her family was probably at least a year away. I felt sorry for her and the misconduct of the airline. She was great to talk to and I hope we made a difference in each other's lives that day.
