  • Americans love The Cheesecake Factory. The restaurant known for its massive 21-page menu, dozens of dessert options and ancient Egypt-inspired decor was ranked as one of the top casual dining restaurants in the U.S. in 2019.
But the eatery popular with everyone from NBA stars to cheesecake aficionados has fallen on hard times as the coronavirus pandemic has wreaked havoc on the restaurant industry. In October, The Cheesecake Factory reported third-quarter sales fell by 12% and same-stores sales were down 23% from a year earlier.
So after 40 years in business will The Cheesecake Factory be able to regain its momentum and will the chain's takeout and delivery service be enough to offset the decline of the dine-in restaurant experience?

Pushing pasta is the old restaurant industry trick to increase margins. Pasta is a fraction of the food cost compared to higher protein entrees. Savvy customers skip pasta and fries since they know these are simply cheap and high-carbohydrate fillers.

Cheesecake Factory is an "anchor tenant" that has the power to convince commercial landlords to cancel or defer their rent. These commercial landlords HAVE to oblige because Cheesecake Factory attracts thousands of people to their malls and shopping centers. Unfortunately, many other small businesses that operate in the same malls don't have this power. They are often forced to pay rent or shut down forever, affecting the store owners' and employees' livelihoods. It's unfair and unfortunate.

I stopped by one of the Cheesecake Factory restaurants last week and from my experience, it seemed as though they've cut their budget in the area of properly training employees regarding good customer service skills. I've never been to a restaurant with such a horrible greeting in my life and it was supported by management waiting inside the door at a desk a few feet behind the unfriendly greeter! Inside, there was an almost empty restaurant with the number of cars in the parking lot standing as proof. No hustle and bustle inside as an unsmiling waiter slowly passed by me standing in line to order a piece of cheesecake because they "were so busy" it was going to be at least a 30 minute wait outside in the cold.....So, I reluctantly settled for a piece of my favorite cheesecake to go.... and even ordering that, I was treated as if they were doing me a big favor instead of my business being important to them!! The taste of the red-velvet cheese cake was still delicious despite having to go stand outside in the cold to wait for it (there were 2 people ordering cheese cake and I made up one of them)! Needless to say, the cheese cake counter for to-go orders wasn't busy either. We live approximately an hour and a half away so I am guessing, by the looks of things, many others had all ready experienced the total lack of congenial, humble and just plain basic quality customer service and appreciation! Congratulations to the Cheesecake Factory on 119th Street in Overland Park, Kansas on my award to you..... perhaps the corporate office will use this store as an example and present you with a visit to hopefully change things around so that myself and others who previously thought so highly of the place can still partake in going because personally, I've seen many stores with great food close at the expense of allowing their customer service to go down hill! I really hope this doesn't happen here! COVID is NO exCUSE FOR poor behavior!!

Omg I once had this in a rather fancy restaurant in Clearwater Beach. It seemed so weird to me😂 but coming from Europe i thought this is the American idea of fancy. Lol

I actually like their food but I think it depends on who's making it sometimes

The microwave is the head chef at the Cheesecake Factory, so send your regards. He'd love to hear your opinion.

Everyone is blasting this restaurant but have had many Birthday celebrations for myself, my sons, gf happy hour, and dates. . I think the food is decent , if you find an item you like and of course the cheesecake is delicious !

21 page menu!! Geezus 😦 I’ve only been to the restaurant once myself as it’s far out of the way and expensive and it was decent. Even the cheesecakes were ok but I’m not really surprised. I don’t miss it.

The cheesecake quality has gone down hill, and that was the only reason to go.

Blaming COVID for the Cheesecake Factory's decline is like someone claiming they sunk the Titanic by ramming it with a canoe two seconds before it went under...

I love going there. The food is delicious.
I think people will be ready to go back to dine in restaurants after the pandemic. I'm sick and tired of ordering stuff to go.
The risk of catching COVID in a restaurant is relatively low. I'm not scared of eating in a restaurant.

However wait times are still ridiculous. And I’ve ate there more now than ever. ❤️
