The skit was phenomenal 😂
Sure. Why not.
Sure! Why not!
Lol
I skip those bs every single time.
My M1 iPad Air has the specs of a base M1 Mac Mini or M1 Macbook Air - same processors, same memory, same storage. We're past the point of iPads getting "closer and closer" to the Mac. Apple is just outright selling Macs that they claim aren't Macs because they slapped the iPad name on them.
We don’t need a “dual boot” with iPadOS and MacOS, we need an UnifiedOS which would be some evolution of MacOS that would have 2 different UI. It would look like iPadOS when used as a tablet, touchscreen friendly, easy to use, and then as soon as you grab a precise pointer such a pencil, a mouse or a trackpad, then it flip the UI and then look like MacOS. But it’s the same OS running, which means you also have Terminal, Finder and Xcode DevKit, and you can run full MacOS apps, so it means you can turn your iPad Pro into a MacBook simply by grabbing a precise pointer.
This sounds perfect 😎❤️
At the moment I use Universal Control to have my mouse & keyboard move from my Mac to iPad and back semi-frequently throughout the day. Would your UnifiedOS mean that when the mouse moves over the iPad would jump between "Mac mode" and "iPad mode" back and forth constantly or do you think it would have to be only when a bluetooth/magic keyboard and mouse are connected that it jumps between the different modes? Just curious as to how you see that working, as I know you can use Universal Control between Macs too.
😮 if that was to ever happen Apple will pull a revolutionary move
it would be easier for apple to just let us just boot into Mac OS.
There's only one reason they won't allow ANY device to be as open as the Mac.
They make money off of every app you buy for the iPad. They make nothing on the apps you buy for the Mac.
Services keep growing for them, even as hardware sales are falling off.
There's no chance they will ever open up the iPad, the AVP, or any other device.
Good point, never thought that
This is the answer..and this also crushed my dreams
Came here to write your comment. Spot on.
In EU they have just like with iPhones
Yessssss i noticed that with final cut pro I was like b****😒
Apple marketing is a hell of a drug bc they convinced people that theres a difference between an ipad and a mac when theyre both just computers and there is no reason why an ipad cant do what macOS can do.
Apple actually has an online army of people defending them in gatekeeping arguably the best consumer portable device ever manufactured. They want you to believe your use case would be wrong for an iPad, immoral 😂 There’s no valid reason other than Apple wanting every last penny from you. Who doesn’t think the same is just delusional.
i am so done with tech tubers without a clue across the board, and ppl which use an iPad as a youtube machine talk about iPadOS....
macOS will never ever come to iPad, ever period big fat NO.
iPadOS is FAR SUPERIOR to anything else, it is WAY better than anything else, EASILY apples best device hands down.
if your use case is covered by iPad and there is like a 99% chance it will be way better than anything else.
slapping an ancient non touch OS on the iPad would be dumbest thing one could possibly ever do.
just look at windows touchtops, thats exactly what you get, a giant mess with a completely useless touchscreen.
but the MAIN thing is the Software, iPad is so unique, it is the only platform with actual PRO software made from the ground up for touch.
NOBODY has that, android has no pro apps at all anyway and windows touchtops get the usual gimpy "touch" enabled software which isnt even mediocre at best.
iPadOS is replacing macOS, this is what's happening.
ppl need to L2iPad
"tech" tubers have no skills or anything, they unbox things and share their opinion, not a single one understands iPad, or iPhone or mac at anything beyond the VERY basic use cases, not even 1% of any mac or iphone or ipad's capabilities ever crossed their mind.
@@carlapr97you realize it cannot work? Why do you think an engineer. People always act like it’s easy. What if someone pulls the iPad off the keyboard dock. Then how does someone use macOS without touch screen capability?
Ipad doesn't need macos. Ipad need xcode, anaconda and a new file manager. That's all it needs
@@JohnSmith-pn2vlyeah the problem is they see iPad isn’t for them but want it changed so it suits them. What they really want is MacBook with touch screen.
Best intro skit you’ve ever done and so on point 😂
Sure! Why not? Sure! S-sh. Shure! Shure!
iPadOS is the reason why I have yet to upgrade form my iPad Pro 2020. It is ridiculous seeing Apple fanboys on Twitter going in full defense mode when people are wanting macOS on the iPad Pro. They have every right to complain about the current state of iPadOS. If Apple is going to give the iPad the same hardware as a Mac and are calling it “Pro”, we expect pro level software at these high prices. The software limitations is the reason why iPad Pro sales have been down for quite some time. The iPad Pro would be a good MacBook Air replacement if it were to run macOS. MacBook Pro sales would not be affected as they will still offer the most premium macOS experience.
What features are you looking for ?
@@MVS_DJGillyGill Better file management and open downloading of software.
you are ridiculous, putting macOS would RUIN the iPad, you have no clue what you are talking about, that is as obvious as wet water.
WHY ? what do you wanna do ? there are a gazzilion different macs to buy to use macOS.
iPadOS is actually far superior to anything out there it is WAY better than macOS or anything really.
there is no software limitations, whats limited is your brain.
more and more will come to iPad, and OF COURSE is the ipad more expensive than a laptop that's jsut obvious, why wouldnt it?
thats nothing new it was the case with the older ones as well.
it has a touch screen, the mac doesn't, and thats really what it's all about.
i bet you use ipad to watch videos and other very basic things, this is why you cry.
ppl like you have no idea about what iPadOs is and what it can do, it is the best computing device in existance.
and pro software costs WAY more than a couple k for the device, it's not even worth mentioning.
@Anthony_141 Sideloading, better file management, better customization, the ability to run macOS apps, and less restrictions.
Same here for the 2018 iPad pro, a device purchased 6 years
Idk why but watching this debate about the iPad Pro and whether it should be able to run MacOS is quite entertaining as someone who just has an iPad mini, the only iPad that doesn’t have an identity crisis lol
After giving some thought this is my 2 cents. I'm a software engineer so I'm not reading just emails and simple user stuff
iPad doesn't need macOS, iPadOS is much snappier than macOS, it just needs to run macOS apps that would run once the system detects a keyboard and a mouse, that way it won't require the app developer to do ANY redesign of the app. In theory that shouldn't require a lot of effort since the cpu/graphics/etc are the same.
yet we don't have a calculator app
Agreed, one thing Apple needs to move towards is a way to write apps once for the Mac and the iPad

I mean, they have Guest Mode for visionOS based on iPadOS, so sure, why not? Hopefully this year with iPadOS 18, or else I am going to think Apple doesn’t have a brain.
@@kennethchung4857 yeah it really should be soon, it's something android does pretty well (and Windows and MacOS 🙃) and aside from corporate greed there's no good reason for apple not to support it on iPad. I know plenty of families with kids who could benefit.
Yeah, you can't sell an extra iPad or 4 if you have people sharing it! Tim Cook-Apple needs to sell a ton of products, not make the best products.
iPad needs MacOS features, not MacOS.

A proper operating system is all that is stopping me replacing my laptop with an ipad
Throwing my hat into the ring of people who would be way more interested in an iPad if it could replace my Macbook Air.
I have tried to buy a MacBook, but I always go back to my iPad Pro with the keyboard
It’s so much easier to just pull the screen off and use on the couch or bed. I prefer the iPad to any laptop for consuming content
of course, iPadOS is the best OS out there and iPad is apples best device hands down, content creators just have no clue whatsoever, as usual.
putting macOs on iPad would actually ruin it, thats the MAIN feature!
iPad is the only touch device in the world that gets professional Software made from the ground up for touch, nobody has that.
the gimpy windows touchtops are terrible and the best example of what happens when you do that.
pro desktop software with some gimpy "touch enabled" features added if lucky, most dont even bother.
a terrible experience across the board.
android tablets is basically non existant and android has no pro software in the place anyway, so people really need to wake up and understand how unique the ipad actually is.
Drew that opening sketch made me laugh so hard! 🤣 😂 You're a gem! 💎 Never change
I owned an iPad briefly and realized just how useless it is...
When I'm playing a game I'm using my gaming PC, when I'm on the web or typing or even watching something I use my laptop especially given I can tilt the screen, and even my phone receives uses for being my main camera! So why do I "need" a tablet? Even when I used a Windows tablet I didn't use it.
The tablet form factor isn't for me and I really think it isn't for a lot which is why Apple refuses to give it macOS
I agree. I was mainly using my iPad for school.
The iPads used to be for artists.
If it just wasn’t for most, they’d kill it. They won’t give it MacOS because it would hurt MacBooks. The simple fact that I can use a sim in an iPad and not in a MacBook would eliminate my need for my MacBook if you put MacOS in my iPad.
For me, the iPad is my most used Apple device these days. I use it for playing board games, managing email, surfing the web, writing notes or stories and watching RUclips videos. I can do all these things on the couch and that feels more comfortable then trying to do the same things at my desk on my Mac.
This is exactly why I won’t be upgrading my M1 iPad Pro, I really like this new model but there’s no point on buying one if you already own one. I totally agree, in fact I’ve told all my friends that have asked me for advice not to upgrade either, or at least wait until June to see what they come up with at WWDC, I’m guessing a lot of people will be doing the same
i am still holding my 1 gen ipad pro from 2016.
I absolutely love your skits! Don’t stop making them! 😂
Amazing skit! Loved it, it was so funny!
Just needs Mac OS App compatibility. Steve job was a risk taker I’m sure he would have replaced the MacBook already
The problem with that is if the performance is subpar when compared to a Mac. People who aren’t techies won’t say “it’s great considering it’s only an iPad”, people will say “it’s slower than a Mac, iPad sucks”.
The single biggest feature that would get me to buy an iPad would be multiple user support. I cannot justify buying an iPad for myself and for my fiancé with the prices, and it'd make sharing with a child a lot easier for so many people.
You're being so selfish. Apple needs you to buy two new iPad Pro devices!!! They're about to go out of business.
What you want isn’t Mac OS. You want to be able to get apps outside the app store.
Apparently we will soon be able to do this in the EU.
I laughed aloud as soon as you said “good morning Drew”. You need help! Too funny, and the video has just started.
Bro!!! I’m dying laughing on the floor!! You killed the intro 😅😂
For software development, yes you need XCode, but you also need the Terminal App.
In my case, I only use the XCode command-line tools on my MacBook, and a different code editor.
Just went and picked up an 14 inch MBP M3 Pro. As I expected, these are a bit of a let down and will never replace a laptop, so although I waited for the event to try and change my mind, I've gone for something that (for me), is better value, more comfortable for the way I work, more usable (for the way I work) and doesn't make me feel guilty for spending an insane amount of money on something which let's face it, a tile with a nice screen.
iPad OS is still a huge disappointment. All that power for what, like what’s the point? Apple need to give us Mac OS on the iPad. I would buy one in a heartbeat if it did.
I used to work in submarine computing, and now an iPad could do Sonar processing instead of the old 19” racks
The 13" iPad Pro is around the same price as a MacBook Air for the power and storage. All it needs is MacOS support! Then it will give people a reason to buy it. Or remake iPadOS from the ground up instead of it just being an iOS copy.
i mean apple back then, intergrating so many different hardwares like PDA, mp3, and caculator into a just tiny phone.
then why shouldn't we intergrating a tablet with laptop? ipad with magic keyboard is basically a slightly heavier macbook. and they using same architecture, and same chips!
it is mind-boggling that some apple fanboys completely forgot how apple got successed in the first place. their innovation was simple, make less device, let people using more features.
I really love the Apple Pencil with the iPad, plus the updated Magic Keyboard looks much more comfortable but I agree. I'm seeing the iPad getting more powerful and expensive yet I can't use Desktop apps on the iPad. I already have a decent Windows laptop that's carried me over college and I may take classes again, so to me it feels like it makes sense to upgrade and future proof my iPad with M4 chip and max storage, since my current iPad is six years old and showing its age, plus it's underpowered. So thankfully for me it will be a huge jump from 6th Gen iPad with underpowered specs to the newest iPad with M4 chip. Everyday I'm seeing iPad acting more like a laptop replacement yet Desktop apps isn't available which is frustrating. I'm planning on seeing the iPad in-store in person, watch review videos of different tech reviewers, and also see what software updates will be provided at WWDC next month. I would be so grateful if Apple finally allows desktop apps to work on iPad while still having access to iPad apps, I mean they even offer the Magic Keyboard! For now, it looks like a laptop alongside the iPad is still required due to different apps and different OS.
Absolutely brilliant intro skit! Champagne comedy!
You're right. I mostly want the organization to be fixed. Everyone hates files. Give us finder
Bro that Intro skit was so spot on haha
I've been saying this thing needs the option to boot into MacOS (like an optional feature whenever the keyboard is attached or whatever) as soon as they released the M1 version... But their greed will never allow consumers the flexibility to fully phase out their basic Mac hardware that many consumers really wouldn't need if they already have a full power iPad pro.
They would need to have a lot more than xcode for software engineering. A terminal and some general purpose IDEs (Apple could port open source IDEs like VSCodium (basically vscode) if they wanted to though) are bare minimums.
My desktop will always be for more GPU-intensive programs, but when I’m on the go I use my iPad for artwork and a laptop for research and multitasking.
If there was an iPad that could have some MacOS functionality, or a MacBook Pro that had the same touch and pen experience as an iPad? I could justify that cost since I’d be able to consolidate two devices into one.
iPad OS needs a file system manager that is Mac or Windows in features, with the ability to assign certain apps to always open up certain file extensions, the ability to open up tabs in a window, see file transfer speeds, etc. Stage Manager is not very good, either.
That’s the one thing that makes me think twice before buying an iPad. If I could code in it I would for sure but one over MacBook
Dude……I am so with you…..I’m due for upgrade since I still use my M1 iPad PRO. But when I saw Apple’s video release on the new M4 iPad PRO, everything you talked about here was my first thoughts and the thoughts that making me hesitate on upgrading. Truth is that I will upgrade but I’ll be cussing up a storm when I hit iPadOS limitations.
Apple know, if they put MacOS on the iPad they will hurt their own sales. I would bet most iPad owners also have a Macbook of some description. iPad Pro with MacOS removes the need for a Macbook Air. Long gone are the days when Apple weren’t afraid to introduce new products that killed off old ones.
If I could run an IDE natively and compile programs or web apps on an iPad it’d be great as a developer. My M1 MacBook is so fast for developing so I’m sure an M4 tablet would be plenty capable. It’s a shame that such a potential is overlooked.
I am totally agree 👍🏽 thanks for good Vid👏🏻
Man
That was your best skit by far!!
Yup I agree completely. I have a iPad Pro that was redesigned with the magnetic pencil but not the M1 chip and it still works just fine for everything I use it for. The heaviest I’ve used it is with shapr3d slightly bogging down exactly 1 time. Everything else it functions fine. I also find myself using my 14” MacBook Pro a whole lot more because Apple still hamstrings the iPad by being stuck in the sandbox. I can load any software I need on my MacBook Pro but can’t on the iPad. It’s actually annoying.
Artist here, I've called it a day and just use my MacBook Pro with a Wacom tablet... The freedom is liberating. My old iPad Pro is a rough starter sketch pad/consumer device, a half way house that's bottlenecked by operating system.
i got the ipad pro m1 (2021) right when it was announced, was super hyped that it would become a laptop replacement, then wwdc happened and it was "...still an ipad." that said, i still use it, despite it's limitations. now im expecting it to be still an ipad, but i am hyped up on the AI features, but have tampered my expectations that nothing extraordinary will come out in june during wwdc regarding AI. so lesson learned, waiting to place an order AFTER wwdc. Not like the prices will go up...
If Apple had half a brain, they could make the 13’ iPad with the MacOS and include a second port to justify the price over the 11’.
Yeah, at this point they are charging more than a MacBook air why not just give the macos. I am guessing the margin is better in selling an iPad than a MacBook. this level of greed to sell wont get them anywhere.
They are private company work to make more money!
It would cannibalize Mac sales so it's not gonna happen anytime soon
yeah right and then why buy a macbook they’ve got half a brain that’s why they don’t do it.
Uh. Apple sells 3 times as many iPads as they do MacBooks. I don’t think consumers want MacOS on an iPad. iPadOS needs to be on its own.
Great example for the need of MacOS features:
I use Logic Pro on an M1 Air. In logic i can have as many plugin windows open, floating, resizable, etc as i want. It is very much needed in Logic Pro from professional mixing. I want to see how a compressor is compressing while i adjust settings in a synth plugin etc. iPadOS is very limiting for PRO use. If i can't use it for PRO features, then a base iPad is fine for RUclips.
I love my iPad, but at the same time feel a lot of the same way you do. They've made ever so small moves in that direction, but they haven't yet made that UI tweek/change to really "crack the nut" I reckon...
I wish Apple would redevelop iPadOS to be 70% MacOS and 30% iOS instead of the current 2% MacOS and 98% last year’s iOS
As much as I want to see macOS on iPad Pro, the right way to fix the iPad Pro is not by adding macOS, but by fixing iPadOS.
I feel like a great solution would be to have what I like to call ‘hybrid apps’. If you’re using an ipad in its traditional form. It’s like a blown up iPhone. But if you hookup mnk it would switch to desktop mode
I usually skip skits but this was good! 😂
Don’t need the full MacOS, just some developer kit that allows companies to port their apps more easily from MacOS to iPadOS would fit the bill. That would surely boost overall iPad+Mac sales.
Software is the only major drawback to iPads. It could do so much more, and MacOS would make it perfect for me.
As someone who just bought a base M4 iPad at $999, I'd be pretty pissed if Apple actually did this and it was restricted to the 1 TB or 2 TB models since they released them and didn't tell people that this software option wouldn't be available on the base models. They're more than powerful enough. I'd be okay with the Magic Keyboard being attached being a requirement for the "Pro" OS though since it would likely be more mouse pointer focused. I want a desktop and to be able to write code on my iPad.
I have an m1 pro macbook alongside my studio. My main use case for the macbook is transferring and moving files on professional film/video shoots. I have absolutely no need to buy a new macbook for many more years, but I’d get an ipad pro running macOS in a heartbeat. Without a full file system with finder windows, the ipad is useless to me.
This is why my iPad is 8 years old and I have no plans to replace it. I could do everything I need to do on an iPad except for 3 apps I’ve been using for 20+ years that are Mac or Linux only. If apple wanted, these could work in stage manager but they don’t want to.
FINALLY a tech tuber willing to tackle the OS software and heart of the matter.
Sick and tired of all the other Tech tubers just simply hawking the hardware and feigning ignorance on the glaring software limitations for the past 3 years since M1.
The Skit was on 🔥🔥🔥🚒
Also, the dual boot should only work when you have it docked to the Keyboard and once you detach it or simply press an iPadOS icon it goes into iPad mode
Dual-boot likely won't be the case if it ever happens. Most likely it would be a scaled-down version of Mac OS for a tablet-friendly UI that has the ability to go into "Desktop" mode upon attaching a keyboard, similar to how Samsung DEX works.
Dual boot is obvious as you say and perhaps a bigger iPad. I have bought iPad Pro M4 13 inch but with 256 storage, so I hope that if dual boot is introduced it will not be limited to 1 or 2 terabytes. I agree will everything that you said for once. When I want to do very serious work I use my 27 inch iMac because of the massive screen. It would be nice if I could connect my dual boot iPad to a studio display??
100% agree!!! Great point! I totally agree.
This is exactly why I didn’t buy a 2TB iPad when it released yesterday…I specd out a $3,000 iPad but I think I’ll hold out for a M4 MacBook Pro
13:45 "Do you disagree because you're wrong!?" 😆
Mac OS will never run on the iPad, BUT a new OS designed to have a responsive size interface for all devices will. Mark my words. ONE OS is coming to power all devices. The function row on this Magic Keyboard now matches the Mac Keyboard identically. If this software doesn’t happen this WWDC, it will the next, but I suspect it’s happening this year given this hardware release.
It's kind of annoying when people say MacOS will ruin the iPad for them or something like that.
It would literally make it the most versatile compact device ever. I would honestly even go as far as to say lets just ditch iPadOS all together and have a touch friendly MacOS.
I've called it a day and just use my MacBook Pro with a Wacom tablet... The freedom is liberating. My old iPad Pro is just a half way house...
The whole reason I use this is so I can connect to my company’s portal via iOS. I don’t want a Mac. I want an IPad.
I’am still using my iPad Pro 11 inch 256gb cellular(3rd/1st Gen ) FROM 2018 ( when Apple first introduced this iPad design). I NEVER felt the need to upgrade ; haven’t found a Good enough reason. The thing is still fast enough) lol . I love it! Someday though.
If MacOS comes to iPad Pro, I will buy it in a heart beat
I've called it a day and just use my MacBook Pro with a Wacom tablet... The freedom is liberating.
I’m not in need of an upgrade right now but, when the time comes for my Mac or my iPad, I’m seriously tempted to go for a Surface. I’m tired of having to buy two different products, and considering that I’m not upgrading right now but I still have many years left with my current iPad and Mac, at that point windows on arm might have become actually good.
I've also thought about the surface. I've called it a day and just use my MacBook Pro with a Wacom tablet... The freedom is liberating.
It astounds me they haven't added a charge limiter on everything. I use my macbook pro plugged in a lot and would even set it at like 70% SOC most of the time to just make sure I'm not killing the battery by having it plugged in a lot. Most of the times I unplug it, 70% is enough.
This was by far and away the best skit ever
This is the reason why i am done with tablets. We need a fully fledged macOS. Anyone that cannot understand this, does not have both a macbook and an ipad to see how close they are and that their unison is the next big thing.
In my opinion the greatest formfactor of them all was the microsoft surface book.
A full fledged tablet pc with a powerful OS. But the moment you attach it to its base you get actual pro features, like additional usb c ports and a SD card reader and also a dedicated graphics card. All without the need to switch device. (Also: more batterypower)
I see so many people wanting MacOs to run on iPads but here's the thing - iPadOS is better for the things a tablet is meant to do .Those ppl probably want some macos features but It's a Lose-some win situation.
The only real limitations of ipados are shitty file management & lack of proper external monitor support , maybe even the inability to run multiple apps in full screen in the Dex like mode. This can be fixed in ipados itself.
Macos is meant to be interacted with mouse so if u put touch interface there, everything will be really cramped and on mac everything is too airy , large with spaces in between ui elements, shorter menus etc. except 13" , none of the other ipads may even run mac apps properly either due to chip limitation or smaller screen size will create compatibility issues.
Even if they manage to run the app, they'll be severely feature stripped and simplified just for sake of compatibility which may get pretty expensive to redesign software like that for a niche market. look at final cut and logic pro
The no-brainer design for me is one where the tablet can stand on its own like the Surface but can also be used with a rigid (not cheap and flappy) full keyboard with full OS functionality.
I totally agree with everything you say regarding the iPad Pro. I would even pay for a one-off software licence to be able install Mac OS on a 1TB+ large screen M series iPad Pro, or would upgrade my 12.9-inch 2TB M1 iPad Pro to the M4 all bells and whistle 13-inch iPad Pro if Apple said at this year's WWDC, they would offer a dual boot iPad OS / Mac OS (though I wouldn't purchase I until I've seen it happen, as once bitten twice shy!). But like you, I think this is unlikely. In fact, the 13-inch M2 iPad Air is more likely to cannibalize sales of the M4 iPad Pro, because what's the point of having an iPad Pro if its only allowed to run iPad OS, as you can do virtually everything an M4 iPad Pro can do, on an M2 iPad Air, with less of the technically capability wasted. This year's WWDC will help me decide whether I ditch the iPad Pro and replace it with a Microsoft Surface Pro 10 with Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite (I am extremely comfortable with Windows 11 arm, and it can now do everything I need, and will be even better with a more powerful arm64 processor) or spend more money with Apple!
TOTALLY AGREE! I love your Tim Cook skits!
Gimme the option to change my default camera/audio I/O, and iPad would be my daily driver for 80-90% of my workload (coming from MBP M1 Max). For specialized high-power analysis and process I would then turn to a heavy Mac desktop (that I can remote to on my iPad).
Audio wishlist:
- Full AU Plugins (not the lame mobileAU) for Logic
- Change default media I/O so Slack/Zoom/etc can see external camera/audio interface
- No reason something like iZotope RX can’t run as an app on iPadOS
- Audio/MIDI Setup pane within settings?
Apple, for goodness sake, stop limiting the iOS software. Make “files” more like “finder”. You have a hardware machine that seems unbelievable in its capacity with an operating system still geared for those using this thing for browsing or games. The stupidity is mind boggling.
I switch back and forth between dual-booting and just an iPadOS boost. Dual-booting would be the easier solution, because you could just keep iPadOS as-is and then just give devices with Mac-level hardware (the iPad Air and iPad Pro) the additional option to run MacOS. But it wouldn't be the most elegant solution, and it would annoy people. Imagine having to remember whether you saved a Word doc to your iPadOS or your MacOS
If you wanted to be a bit janky, you could boot up MacOS and have it basically emulate iPadOS on a VM but with some shared resources, so the iPadOS running virtually on your MacOS iPad device could access the iPad's storage capacity and the like. So iPads like the Air and Pro ship with MacOS that defaults to a virtual iPadOS, while lower-spec iPads like the base iPad and the Mini just natively run iPadOS. On a MacOS iPad, you could switch in and out of the iPadOS instance kind of like how you can enter and exit Steam's Big Picture mode, and just use native MacOS when you wanted and then jump right back into iPadOS at will. Like I said, it's janky. But it works, and it solves some of the major problems of dual-boot
And then of course there's the solution I usually prefer: keep iPadOS' UI, and re-work the back end. You could rework MacOS to just give it an iPad UI, but I don't know how well the lower-spec iPads would handle that. Better to just do things like open up file directories, give terminal access, and maybe rework Mac APIs and iPadOS so they could play nice with each other, allowing us to run Mac apps on iPad. I honestly doubt that Apple will ever do that last one, but the first two are relatively easy to implement and would solve 90% of people's issues while still keeping the iPad like an iPad
I can’t stop laughing at the intro skit. I love it.
They just need to bring Mac OS features to the iPad or give us a dual boot mode. Until that happens the iPad Pro is not worth it. Stick with the Air.
Great Points!!!👊
I'm spreading this comment over many youtube channels.
The new iPad Pro M4 or iPad Air M2 are the BIGGEST DONGLE EVER MADE by Apple, because if someone simply want to use the new Pencil Pro with their shining and super powerful iPad Pro M1/M2, they MUST BUY the new WHOLE iPad Pro M4 or iPad Air M2!!! This is outrageous by Apple! What a shit of a company!
Thank you for highlighting this important issue. Pure wisdom. I was just thinking of this. The iPad needs to have MacOS.
The iPad is more powerful than most laptops but I can’t use most of the Adobe apps because they only work on desktop computers which is irritating. And it has to support 100W fast charging. They should feel embarrassed that new tech companies have 50W wireless charging and 100W wired, while they are still stuck at 15W and 23W.
This is why I’m thinking of getting a Microsoft surface pro , or ASUS Zenbook Duo. They can make an iPad Ultra which has two systems , this will convince me to buy very expensive keyboard case. I hope they watch this video.
All it needs is to be an iPad when it's in your hand. And to have an expanded OS when it's docked. If it's in the Magic Keyboard, or docked onto some kind of magnetic desk dock, it becomes a desktop experience.
What's wrong with having options? Those who want to use ipad as a laptop let them have it. Most people will still use it as a tablet.
I already own a Mac and I own a iPad Pro, I don’t want macOS on the iPad I just want the iPad software to improve, maybe add some more unique features on iPadOS that’s neither on iPhones or macs. Make the tablet even more unique is the direction I want them to go
"SURE WHY NOT!" 🤣🤣
you are totally right!! Please keep Saying that!!!
I don't think the iPad needs Mac OS, the iPad needs professional Mac OS like features built for touch screen.
I don’t even want macOS. Xcode, full fledged file system, hombre support. Get these on iPad and I’m happy.
Nice monologue 👏everything I wanted to know
I think we could eventually see this happen but I could also see Mac apps slowly make their way into the iPad’s App Store. For example, resident evil 8 has that port that works on iPhone, iPad, and Mac (and lists all of them for compatibility in the App Store).
It sucks though since some Apps like Final Cut are “built for touch” on iPad and are basically different apps with subscription models. I think things will get very interesting once alternative App stores start showing up. I wonder how many developers will add Mac level apps and ignore the App Store completely
