Good grief! Did the hater bus pull up, or something?! I have this pedal. It's awesome. How do you NOT hear that the problem is the camera mic, and NOT the pedal. This video does the Uni-Vibe ZERO justice.
I think what you have to realize is this vibe pedal is in the $130 range. Of course your going to get a better pedal if your willing to pay $200 on up to some I've seen for around $600. I think this is a great pedal for the price for people who can't afford or are unwilling to pay major prices. For example the Korg NuVibe mentioned below lists for $640 with a street price of $500US. Personally I can't afford that but I also wouldn't compare that pedal with this one. And one guy below can't decide between this pedal and a JHS WarbleTron. The WarbleTron is $300. If I were going to spend that much I would probably get the DLS RotoSim. Much better than the WarbleTron. But thats my own opinion.
This. I know the deja vibe sounds much better, especially the dry bell vibe machine - but as you said they are 3 times the price of this. The dry bell is $295. If I have that laying around for a new pedal purchase you are close to getting into Strymon territory and that is much more worth the higher price. If you are in a club playing a gig using this MXR pedal I highly doubt anyone will give you shit if it does not sound as good as a deja vibe.
About a year ago MXR came out with the Hendrix Tribute pedals and one of the pedals were the "Hendrix Vibe" pedal. This is the same pedal without the Hendrix Tribute graphics.
Thanks for the demo Mark. Im kinda unsure about buying one or not. Im getting fussy about UniVibes in my old age I suppose. Ive a question, it sounded really distorted when you hit chords, is that the actual pedal or digital clipping or what? Thanks for your time.
Hey Brian, I actually had the gain on the clean channel of my amp turned up about half way so that is why there is a little crunch. In hindsight I probably should have included some clean sounds but I had it set at where I normally play. Sorry about that.
I have a 1972 Shin Ei Uni Vibe that I bought back in ....72 or 73.... that I used nightly up until like 78 or 79 and the road crew lost my pedal. Put it away, forgot I even had it until I just found it last week.....imagine my surprise. I then found Bob in Austin Texas...THE go to genius for all things Shin Ei and he had 5 pedals left for the old original Uni Vibes....which of course I ordered one immediately. But....as I was going to say....The MXR is not a very good rendition of the Shin Ei Uni Vibe...in MHO only.
Well "8bigtubes" is correct...I have one of these and it can't compare to the drybell BUT try and get a drybell good luck..I'm still using my 33 dollar modded by JHS Dano vibe pedal...If it doesn't have photo cells it's not the bomb..
Haha ok, my fault. Poor word choice: I meant distortion as in the bad kind, ie: digital clipping in your interface or the like. Not the analog "distortion" we all love. Could be whatever youtube does during file compression. Regardless, thanks again. I do appreciate your help.
okay, I was considering buying this one to make space on my board and right now I have a Prescription Electronics Vibe Unit which is amazing and does not over color my sound at all when it's kicked in. On your demo your sound got worse and frail to my ears. I have heard other demo's and did not get that "vibe" from them. I like the fact that your demo is raw and little more realistic. I will not be buying this unless I go and compare my Vibe Unit to this one at a retail store. Thanks for helping me, I hate wasting money on an almost blind buy like I did with the TC Viscous Vibe.
These pedals sound okay, but if you want those sounds with quality at a good price, Zoom pedals are the best. The G1 ON and the G1XON have excellent settings and amp models for less than $100. They have a factory setting called "Jimi" which sounds exactly like Hendrix and a bit better.
Zoom pedals? I thought they were super cheapo in every way.. did they improve lately? I never said I know it all...if they have improved, post up about it.
They have a factory setting called "Jimi" which sounds exactly like Hendrix and a bit better." sounds like evey gimmick pedal that come out. Zoom is good, the MG100bt and the CRD-70 are good but not in the same league for a uni-vibe as my Vibronaut Michael Craig
well I heard the Fulltone deja-vibe is about the best of the newer ones..I also heard Shin-ei is back, making the "vibe bro" since MXR has the name now..the Shin-ei name has been bought and moved to the US, making the exact same ones, form what I heard, but for $600!! So, that is waaaay out of my current budget..That is why I am looking for something very reasonable, but still sounds good. that is why I am asking about this MXR one..who makes the vibronaut, and how much?
I got a Zoom pedal that does about 50 things, half assed, in 2008, but it was basically a freebie, tossed in on a pawn shop situation...made of plastic. I did not pay anything for it, of course. I just thought it might be fun to get some weird sounds like a sound experiment..
between these 2 I would go with the shaky jimi - but what I have on my board now is the TC electronic viscous vibe which is in the same price range - I have a review of it on my channel
I have this pedal, it sounds muddy. As soon as you turn it off, you can hear how much clearer the amp sounds. I was really disappointed with it. The Wah pedal version sounds much better.
If that is MXR's take on the classic Univibe effect, then it's a failure. I'm sorry. It just doesn't have that deep, throaty throb that the classic Univibe and good clones of have. You want an authentic sounding vibe pedal in a MXR sized enclosure? Get the Drybell Vibe Machine.
The Drybell, yes, or the Earthquaker 'Depths"....which I have. And it sounds awesome, having only the chorus mode, for those only wanting the nice swishy parts without the seasick vibrato mode. The guys at EQD were even awesome enough to send me black knobs to switch off the white ones. \m/
Reuben Kaufman the sound is up to your taste but as far as build quality I've never had any issues with MXR/dunlop pedals so they should stand up to any gig you have. I would also check out the video I just posted of the TC electronic Viscous Vibe - might be more up your alley
Great review... Horrible rendition of a vibe. Dunlop and everyone else needs to stop condensing pedals into smaller enclosures for the loss of quality sound. Stick to original designs. I guarantee if they reissued the original in it's full size with bulbs and expression pedal they would make a fortune!
I like the way you did the Hendrix-sounding stuff. It shows what the pedal can do.
I like your Joyo vintage overdrive pedal stand
I dig the tone of the shaky jimi over this one.
Good grief! Did the hater bus pull up, or something?! I have this pedal. It's awesome. How do you NOT hear that the problem is the camera mic, and NOT the pedal. This video does the Uni-Vibe ZERO justice.
This was actually recorded with the amp mic's with a Sennheiser E609
Actually, you had it right the first time; red LED on is vibe mode, since it sounds more pitch-shifty than the chorus mode.
There's something weird about this pedal. Doesn't sound like a vibe.
I want this pedal.
I don't know if I want it to replace my phaser or not.
But I do want it.

***** Hey man - it is a Dunlop Cry Baby Classic Fasel Inductor Wah. This one amzn.to/15VqedO
Great demo. Thumbs up for having a sega dreamcast. Retro handhelds and consoles are awesome.
Peace
PV.
About a year ago MXR came out with the Hendrix Tribute pedals and one of the pedals were the "Hendrix Vibe" pedal. This is the same pedal without the Hendrix Tribute graphics.
Pretty much but MXR went in and fixed some of the issues with the Hendrix version.
Love your smooth playing. Brilliant tone.
Thanks for the demo Mark. Im kinda unsure about buying one or not. Im getting fussy about UniVibes in my old age I suppose. Ive a question, it sounded really distorted when you hit chords, is that the actual pedal or digital clipping or what? Thanks for your time.

Very cool review! Dave Murray of Iron Maiden uses this pedal as well. I have the Univibe and use it with the MXR carbon copy echo delay.
Randall Schoverling does it mate well?
Reuben Kaufman with the cc
Yes. I wonder how adding a reverb pedal would sound?
@@Majnun74 lush
Is this the least expensive Univibe pedal? How much is it? Where in the pedal chain would it go? Effects loop, or amp front input?
Well "8bigtubes" is correct...I have one of these and it can't compare to the drybell BUT try and get a drybell good luck..I'm still using my 33 dollar modded by JHS Dano vibe pedal...If it doesn't have photo cells it's not the bomb..

I would get it just for novelty.. I like the sound but I love my rotovibe. All this in a foot motion pedal is better than just knobs.
Promising. Needs expression pedal to modulate speed.

That almost sounds like a phaser. I prefer the Fulltone Deja Vibe pedals myself.
So...if i push the Vibe Button i engaged the Chorus mode?
Haha exactly
thanks in the demo on "Sweetwater Sound" channel he tells the contrary...anyway...Thanks!
should i get this, or a used dunlop rotovibe, or a mini fuzzface. (my price range is $70 to $120)
+vincent rotovibe has issues and the fuzzface is a fuzz lol
Which one do you prefer, this one or your shaky jimi?
between these 2 I would go with the shaky jimi - but what I have on my board now is the TC electronic viscous vibe which is in the same price range - I have a review of it on my channel

Dear MXR....love ya.....drop this one pronto!!!
Can someone do vid with less depth to check that other spectrum of the pedal
If that is MXR's take on the classic Univibe effect, then it's a failure. I'm sorry. It just doesn't have that deep, throaty throb that the classic Univibe and good clones of have. You want an authentic sounding vibe pedal in a MXR sized enclosure? Get the Drybell Vibe Machine.

Agree mxr vibe sucks.. drybell is good
would this be good to gig with?

Thanks so much man :)
Whats the name of that song at the begin of this video????
Jimi Hendrix - Machine Gun
Moen Shaky Jimi or Mxr uni-vibe?
I have both and they're quite different. Shaky is smoother, but I prefer the MXR
Boy, it looks just like the Hendrix 70th ann, with a different paint job, I bet if you open each one up side by side poofff, its the same pedal.
not much headroom
Hey BAby!!!!1
I had the same shakey Jimi pedal and it is a piece of crap.
Not a fan of this pedal. It sounds like a bad simulation of a univibe.
See the new Korg NuVibe... it has the original designer behind.
Yeah and the nuvibe takes up half your pedalboard. No thanks.
Except for the vibe being a good clean boost, this pedal is a POS
uhm uhm.
Could you stop saying "hum" every 10 seconds?
ha I can;t promise anything
